In this case... seeing is believing! Thank you for doing the side by side test. I have a kitchen fabric rug that I've cleaned with soapy water and a long handled scrub brush, but at 69, it's getting old. So, I thought about using the Scotch Guard to reduce the frequency of the washing, which is twice each year. Thanks again! : )
I love Scotchgard.... My leather living room recliner set still looks new after 2 years and I like the fact that you don't have to spray but once per year.
Honest question - I have a 40 year old leather couch that looks like new that has never had protection.. what does the guard actually do on leather? I can imagine for cloth where it is absorbent it makes sense, but what does it do to leather?
I scotchguard everything it's good stuff it works great on my canvas tent i soaked about 20 bottles in it when i bought it my shoes, carseats the cat and dog my hair and everything its great stuff.
Hi..thanks for checking out our channel. These are many products that we have not tested, but of the more well known ones Scotchgard works as well as any of them. There are solvent based products but spraying them is very dangerous and i wouldn't recommend you apply in the home. Stick with Scotchgard and follow directions. We use 3 applications versus what their Recommendation of two.
Great Question!!! One reason to use protectors is that they make most fabrics easier to clean...meaning removal of spots/soils requires less physical aggitation and less aggressive chemistry ☺
nice, I want to protect a mousepad I got from europe and took months to arrive, thank you for making this vid, the spray It's a bit expensive, but seems great for protecting things.
@@DavidMavilio hi just letting u know this worked great. I bought some cushions from dollar general for 15$ and I couldn't be more happy. I hanged them so they could be laid out evenly and I also used a spray grip so it can help with the evenly spray...although I did it in a windy day cause I was on a schedule but I got them done. It rained today sat June 5 2021 so I was able to go outside and see how they did and 😯 my cushions had a pool of water sitting on them. I am so happy. 😉👏👏👏
Question, just sprayed my white sofa with scotchgard spray and sprayed my wood floors as well by accident in the process... my floor is SUPER slippery, any advice on how to remove it from the floor?
Great question Some companys say it last forever, but that's not true. In areas with daily use like seat cushions, arm rests etc we have found it lasts about one year and should be reapplied after the next cleaning. Don't reapply without a thorough cleaning first. No matter the brand we use we advise reapplication after each cleaning. ☺
HI Most protector manufactuerers will tell you that even though they were not designed to protect against particulate soils they will hold dust etc above the fabric to make it easy to vacuum up. Short answer: Yes In reality regular vacuuming (weekly) is best rather than doing a really thorough vacuum every few months.
Hi Jon We used it on fabric not carpet We did get discoloration on this upholstery but carpet probably wouldn’t show any changes as dramatically Test it in a small area before spraying over the entire room.
Hi Most likely the color change is because textiles and fabrics are made to reflect light to a varing degree. Adding a foreign substance, even though its at worst slightly opaque changes the amount of light that is reflected and absorbed. This changes the shading that we see.
clearly the product doesn't give full protection, sorry but product failed. You can't expect anything with protection on, I never seen anything like this before protection gives full protection simple this product failed.
I would say this is a failed review .... first off, seats are horizontal (not in a vertical position where the liquid runs off quickly). Even on the vertical treated side, there is soaking through the material. For cars or SUV's .... depending on the price I paid for the vehicle, I will not allow anyone to eat or drink in my vehicle. Especially if I paid over $50K for same .... it's not a restaurant. You want to eat or drink? .... go to a restaurant. If you spill anything, the restaurant cleans it up. Just my two cents.
Uhh yea so Scotchguard sucks even after spraying it your couch is screwed.. i mean am i wrong here ??? Why buy this crap when it doesnt really work sir. Do tell 🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨🤨
"We didn't expect this, but it happens."
Can't argue with that

This video looks like it is twenty years old instead of three. I like the aesthetic.
Thanks 😊

I didnt know you can use it on leather. I've got leather everywhere
I followed the instructions and one can worked for 2 recliners with 3 coats on each! Thank you!!!
Happy to help
Good luck
Did it change the colour or look streaky?
Great video! Straight to the point and simple.
Thanks!!
☺
Thank you! This is helpful! I bought a white couch and will be using scotchguard…but will test an area first
Great idea
Do more than one test if you are unsure
Good luck
Excellent video, love the demonstrations! Shows a variety and you were very thorough! 👍
Thanks so much!
I appreciate the kind words ☺

The cat and dog!?!
You Scotchguard your hair?
She's probably dead by now.. poor cat and dog 😳😬💀
"immediate absorption" 🤣
Mahalo Dave, made me think twice to APPLY scotchgard on our new sectionals...
Hi Dana- Welcome ☺
I'd say it's worth it. If my kid spills juice I can grab my upholstery cleaner and save the cushion
great review, im gonna get me some scotchguard now
☺
Thank for these amazing test. I just started watching your channel. What do you find to be the best protector out there?

I bought a can for some lawn chair cushions...I see by your video just have to make sure its covered evenly.
Fingers crossed.

How does it feel post application? Sticky/plastics/stiff/unbreathable/waxy?🤔🤔🤔thx for this🤗😀🐤🐥🦆🐓🦜🦔🦔🦔🐦🐿🐧🤗🐣😇😄🐹🐤🦜
The fabric pretty much feels the same. Over applying can make it feel stiff.

Hi
Try using dish detergent with warm water and a cloth or sponge.
Follow that with a wipe down using white vinegar
Good luck 🍀
Thanks very helpful and to the point.
Glad it was helpful!
I want to try this on some of my white jerseys but I’m scared about the color change
Test it on a very small area, mybe the collar. Be very careful though
Good Luck
Does it change the texture of the fabric?
We couldn’t detect any change the the texture
What a great review!
Thank you kindly!
Thank you for doing this!
My pleasure!
Hope it helps....coming soon:
our review of the Vectra Protector
I use this when I sell my old clothes but looking for something that smells good though
Im trying to protect the fabric near the legs from dog pee's. Does it help? Is it pet friendly?
Most likely this won't protect you from dog pee.
Most protectors can't handle pet accidents
Thanks for the reply David!
Very Welcome ☺
Please show how you spray the protector?
Hi
When we test again I'll include the spray step
Why is there colour difference , does scotch guard change material colour then ??
Any fabric protector can change the color, even if it is slight. always test the product in a hidden area
Just got 2 cans from Home Depot and I’m doing my 2 chairs tonight
Make sure test a small area first...
Le us know how it turns out
Great review! Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Does is make the fabric feel any different?
Hi
One or two applications show no change in look or feel. Several more probably would
Does scotchgard water proofing work for leather ?
We have used a solvent based protector on unprotected leather but no Scotchgard, it is water based
It did made my taupe lounge look darker. I only applied once do I need to apply it twice?
I think two coats are better than one, but test a small area and let it dry to see if the second coat will make it even darker.
Good luck!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Has anyone tried coating their couch in the sun and water shield?
May I ask how many coats you used on the protected fabric shown?
Hi
When using any fabric protector we always apply a minimum of two coats.
In this example we applied three coats.
Hope this helps ☺
@@DavidMavilio Thanks!
Good content and well explained. I thank you
Glad it was helpful!
I,ll give it a go something has to be better than nothing, carpets are to expensive not to invest in them
Make sure to not over apply it

How much Scotchgard is needed for a standard sofa?
Hi
I would use at least two applications.
Buy two cans just in case.
I don't think three coats on seat cushions would hurt
Good luck ☺

Can we use this on our car's windshield? Can't seem to find the Rainx anywhere. Thanks
No
I would not use this.
Even though it doesn't seem to leave a film on the carpet i think it blur your ability to see clearly through your windshield
Can you use that product on a duck canvas jacket??
Hi, not sure. Test it in a hideden area first. It may make the overall jacket darker
@@DavidMavilio thanks 4 answering

Great for the money!
Make sure to test it in a hidden first

What the best brand of this protector please?
Hi
The brand is Scotchgard
There is a link in the description if you are interested in purchasing it
Best video. ❤❤❤
Thanks 😊
I want to know how it hold up to cat vomit.
Hi Brian
We haven't tested it against body fluids.
I would think it would help, a least a little.
So it needs 70 coats got it 😆
Somewhere between 65 & 70
😆😆
Does it protect from dust?

yes

If you spray the whole carpet is it really discolored

Maybe that’s why the color is different. Maybe follow the directions of the company that made the product

The product failed. At best 1 out of 5 stars. Not 4/5.
He’s throwing it across the protected area but onto the non protected area.
It's toxic C8 PFAS
Even the “protected” side got stained. FAIL.
