Antonio Nuñez No, that's okay, I just meant that later in the campaign Grog learns to read and write and I didn't want to spoil it if you haven't watched the whole thing :)
@@stella1996able It's cool like I said I was just making a joke about it but it didn't occurred to me at the time about what you had mentioned. So forgive me for that.
In C2, it actually took him a while to seem like a smart character. For like 10 episodes, he wasn't saying very smart things, while trying to sound smart. Guess he was still getting over being this character.
I checked Fjord's stats. I never realized he had 14 int. I guess I just assumed he was 10 int like most warlocks. I'm probably just too used to point buy, since we never roll for stats at my tables. As a random tangent I looked up the stats for all the C2 characters. Yasha really got screwed over by rolling for stats. Jester was the winner of the rolling for stats. Jester got 86 points before racial bonuses. Yasha got 71 before racial bonuses. 15 stat points is a major difference, which is why Yasha felt weak for most of the campaign. Fjord had 76 points. A bit on the low end. If he wanted to be better in combat he should have switched his 14 int for his 11 dex. But He decided he wanted to roleplay higher than average int instead of having a +2 dex mod.
This where an inspiration die should've been put into play for that awesome moment between the characters. I think Ashley was thinking about giving him guidance but forgot how it worked for a second, i think it too could've been allowed. I think with a higher roll Matt would've totally let Grog learn his own name.
Matt generally doesn't give inspiration. It's a weird mechanic that's entirely based on a DM's subjective definition of what's good roleplay. It just ends up in a weird mess of needing to give it to everyone equally because it's too insulting to openly say that some people roleplay worse than others at your table. Additionally inspiration is just a buff to the PCs in a system where PCs are already quite strong. And it was probably a DC 15 for Grog to learn his own name. DC 15 is a very common bar to set for an impromptu DC that you haven't had time to think it through. As a DM, unless you've had a chance to plan ahead and think about the math for how difficult you want something to be, most people just impromptu pick 10, 15, or 20 for the DC based on general difficulty.
Matt gives them a hole bunch of free magic items because they are always good roleplay players but terribile at math/rules/reading even just their own cs or spells... so I feel not giving them inspiration is perfectly balanced. He DID gave them some inspiration dice, but EXTREMELY rarely.
i think the best part is that ashley and travis were like, 35 and 37 respectively and she spent so long pretending to teach him the first letter of the alphabet
How does noone think of it this way: A is for: Ale B is for: Beer C is for: Champaign G is for: Grog (the name) R is for: Red whine O is for: Oh shit G is for: Grog (the drink)
Am I blind this video came out 2 years ago and it came out definitely during the first campaign so probably the events happened before that but yet Travis Willingham is wearing a burr shot first t-shirt which is obviously referring to the Han shot first Star Wars quote and it's even written in Star Wars text but Bill Burr just recently starred in the Mandalorian and he's never been in another Star Wars show or movie. Is travis Willingham a time traveler?!?!?!?!?

Love how Travis plants that little help for Ashley with the "Fuckin' ay this is tough"
That's the first letter of the alphabet!
What? Fuckin?
Travis is crazy good at setting up for other players.
The most savage of all barbarians...also the biggest innocent fluff ball of all :) mommy pike always takes care
they are so damn adorable
Pickle and Groggy for life!!!!
Grog is what would happen if you gave a black lab barbarian levels.
Grog is VM's giant murder child that everyone in VM takes turns raising (especially Pike). ^^
He's my favorite character!
2:24 that twin moment with Liam and Laura
OMG perfect
Holy shit
I just want a critical role episode where everyone just tries to teach Grog to read.

Don’t let Pike foul you. Funkin’ is definitely the first letter of the alphabet
