When you learn Taryon is actually gay this scene changes deeply. He isn't flirting with Pike and there is a reason he knows the full name of Percy.
I just only realized this... it also completely explains the reaction to Grog's picture aswell...
He may still be flirting, only the reason is because he is not comfortable with showing others that he is gay, and flirting with girls hides it. I seem to recall he was somewhat scared to tell people, but mabye i'm just making things up.
@@mathiasfrolich613 He wasn't scared to tell people, his father wanted him to marry a wealthy lady for profit so he was taught to keep appearances. It's part of the reason he ran off.

I just had the hilarious idea of Pike holding up these pictures for Tary on the beach, when she gets to Grog, a Matt Mercer lookalike walks by and goes "Whoa." in reference to this.

@@stormcloudsabound in one of interviews Matt said that he at first didn't expect Sam to be into dnd since it looked like he didn't like it that much and was a bit of aloof and enigma, but he continued to show up to every game and here we are.
but i didn't hear that they weren't getting along at any point.
This video could be used as a good counter-argument to the Matt Mercer Effect. You know, when people complain their DM is "not as good as Matt": This hilarious scene has very little to do with Matt. He didn't plan for it obviously, he just went with the joke and provided funny descriptions for the pictures. But the entire rest was created by two of the players (or actually all of them).
So people: Don't expect a Matt Mercer behind the screen if you can't be a Sam Riegel or Ashley Johnson yourself.
Matt also has great memory the poses where just said as a jest by the group but he still took note of it and had the exact description of the drawings

I always see people say that Sam's the funny guy of the group, but everyone overlooks the fact that Ashley is the one who consistently cracks Sam himself up. She's so on-point and quick with her jokes that sometimes she flies under the radar.
It took me a while to really appreciate Ashley's style of comedy, but it's so good. She really gets to shine that way in C3!

Ashley also needs to try the least to be absolutely hysterical I think, she just has a naturally funny air about her, hard to explain.
sam is the quickwit but ashley is astoundingly good at setting up jokes.

This may be one of my favourite moments from c1, right up there with the love potion incident. You rarely see the entire cast collapse into gales of laughter like this anymore. Liam disappearing into his laughter zone is always good
And with that mischievous "Yes" Fearne was born.

This is why we play these games. Sometimes for the fight, sometimes for the story, and sometimes because the stars align just right and out of nowhere you realise that you've accidentally set up a ten-minute gauntlet of solid-gold punchlines. Just pure, golden apples hanging from the lowest branch, there for the taking. Sam going full James Mason for that "*really*?" is just perfect.
the mama Pike sermon is the highlight of this season.
I love how excited everyone gets for Mama Pike. Marisha, Travis, Liam, Laura... We all love Mama Pike ❤️
One of the best moments from ANY CR Campaign. Matt's reactions were priceless.
I like the idea that Vex was not only on top (and really, did any of us ever doubt it?) but stayed like that even though she realized Doty was looking at her long enough to be drawn.
Liam is so right. All of the seriousness of a campaign, the grinding sessions, the "boss" battles. They are part and parcel of D&D, but this is the kind of thing that you remember and *love* about D&D - not the mechanics or worldbuilding, but the fun with friends.

This used to confuse me for the longest time and I only just realized that Doty listens to Pike when she says, "No," because Tary said, "Do whatever the young lady asks," at the start of this misadventure--wild that Matt tracked that through multiple conversations.

Amazon honestly, honestly, would win if they added non LoVM episode featurettes in addition to the series that adds bits of story that might need to be cut for episode time and pacing purposes to do them full justice... Parts that aren't necessarily plot related but are so essential to REALLY knowing the group 😄
Kind of like the "One Ship" series they did for the final season of The Expanse.

Years later this is still a strong contender for the finniest single scene in CR history. Just wall to wall absolute bangers from start to finish. You could probably teach a class on improv comedy based on just this scene.
Sam and Marisha high fiving beyond the camera break is like realizing that Alaska is actually super close to Russia.
You mean the Marisha and Liam high-five at 4:10 ? Yeah, they rearranged seating once Vaxleth because a thing, so Liam and Marisha wouldn't have to look past other people to have their heartwrenching and awkward conversations. Always weird to see table to table interactions, though.
I wrote a unevercity study on this in conversation-analysis on theese 15 min on how there is a conversation happening on 3 levels, its the character to character, dm to player and in some sence DM to character. The most fun I ever had in university

Still one of my absolute favorite scenes of all CR. I really, really, really personally need Tary to appear in the LoVM series, and if so, I dearly hope this scene makes it in, as word for word as possible. It's just too good.

@@dolphin64575 Yeah they did a Trilogy. Senior Year was done while Darren Criss was heavy into filming Glee so he's rocking his Blaine look for Senior Year. Do keep in mind that Senior Year was never polished to the point of being a full production. It was intended to be a Table Read at Leaky Con, but in true Starkid Fashion, they decided, "Eff it let's bring out the costumes and make it a full production run through." So they all have their scripts and read off them at times and the costumes were never stage tested so physical shenanigans ensued during the performance. So what was intended to be only a Table Read at Leaky Con turned into, essentially, a full Starkid Musical performed live at Leaky Con. They had, like, one day to actually rehearse this and Darren had, like, half a day because he flew in on the day of the performance fresh off the Glee set.
Can't wait for this scene in season 4 of LoVM.
I swear this had better be in the TV show or I'm going to throw down!
