Hi Georgina! I'm from Portugal and I'm extremely proud of our choice this year. I loved your reaction, I found your channel and I'm definitely gonna keep watching your videos because I am a huge fan of music. But I would like to take the chance to complete your global appreciation to tell you the story of this song. You should know that The Black Mamba said in an interview what the song is based on:
"The song is inspired by an old lady we met in Amsterdam a couple of years ago, when we were on tour in The Netherlands, she ended up addicted to drugs and that led to prostitution, but she told us that she never gave up and that she believes that love was with her all the time... this is her story and we hope she listens to our song."
And now they go with this song to eurovision, back to the place where all this story statred, in The Netherlands. And if you enjoyed this song, when you have the chance you should explore Black Mamba's channel because I think you'd be stunned. Even here in Portugal, lots of Portuguese people dont know Black Mamba are a portuguese band. Even if we dont win, it is enough because we will have enough recognition. On the stage this song is a very cinematic music due the band's perfomance and scenario. I love it! But the acoustic shows us a raw version, that enhance the singer vocal skills. I don't consider an eurovison song, but a Hit song to play on the radios, on the bars, at home... The voice is something... is an orchestra. The guy, is really cool singer with a precious voice. And it's very funny because Tatanka, said during a interview that for him the must important reaction... it was your reaction.
It's not "an eurovision song" ? What does that mean? Eurovision songs can be any type of songs, there isn't such category, although some people would love to create it... It's maybe better to mention "different audiences", with different musical knowledge and different tastes and experiences. It is scaring when important ESC blogs refer that this song cannot win because it is not "instantaneous" enough, but then they seem very disturbed if we say that often the ESC songs are "fast food music". The point is, we can love fast food music, but it is important to value the hard work and artistic soul behind other songs that don't have huge audiences. ESC should assume a pedagogic role from that point of view.🤓👍♥️
The song that bit reminded me of was in Christina Aguileras ‘Beautiful’ - “So don’t you bring me down today”

To answer your question: 38 esc winners were singing Not English (13 were in French). 33 winning songs were in English (although most of them not from countries were English is the first language) . A few are mixed. And the highest note was a perfect pitched whistle note from Ukraine in 2016 because as you noticed too, the Israelian whistle note this year was on the track. And that does not count.. Keep up the good work
