I love this song so much. It is my winner this year, and I cannot wait to see it on the ESC stage. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch a different version (from the semi final or something), when she hasn't already won. It is perfection in every way! Those harmonies are divine, and actually, when they are singing in unison, it is some of the best unison singing I have ever heard. I've fallen in love with this, one gentle note at a time
I totally agree… these group of 4 judging did not even search for the semi -final song but the celebration one with all the artists that competed. This song is so amazingly beautiful. I live in California and let a friend who happens to be singer to hear it, and absolutely loved it. She spoke of the beautiful voice of MARO.
Portugal really delivers quality... she won the Jury and the Televoting... with this song about the feeling of "missing"....someone ... this song hits as well the actual emotional status of many after the pandemia and during this rising war.... her vocals got me from 1st second ... and I m sure this time - Portugal will qualify again...
Life has no meaning if we are not able to feel, to have and show emotions and this song is about that. SAUDADE by meaning something or someone that was important and good, inspiring and joyfull and is no longer there... but although it is no longer there, it still exists in us. SAUDADE is an emotion that translates the absence of something or someone. It is missing the essence of the presence of someone, of "that" moment,of that "thing"! SAUDADE is a single word that translates a series of sad and happy moments, situations, leaving a vibrating memory and feeling that will last forever - in this case, she is talking about her grandfather. " Nothing more that I can say says it in a better way" SAUDADE
Love this song and those beautiful harmonies, along with Maro's unique voice. Enjoyed your reaction very much, although I don't agree with Tyler regarding Maro's voice. Also be aware you were watching the celebration performance and the vocals were a bit influenced by the emotion of the moment. Maro is the girl in the middle. The others are her friends and also professional singers that she invited to do the back vocals.
Totally agree with you, Miguel. I disliked Tyler’s disposition from the very beginning. He was ready to dismiss it even with the question if they should shout MARO because it appears all in caps. Does he shouts ABBA? As for his comments on her voice… misdirected.
I would have been much more prudent in evaluating a voice from a video in which the euphoria was installed after an overwhelming victory in Festival da Canção, with the maximum score (jury and public), a huge distance from the 2nd place, in an edition full of beautiful and unique songs. And already after having obtained the maximum score of a jury in the semifinal where there were 2 mythical singers: Teresa Salgueiro (former singer of Madredeus) and Dulce Pontes. Maro arrives at the Festival da Canção with an endless number of musicians praising her voice and talent: *Quincy Jones, Pablo Alborán, Eric Clapton, Salvador Sobral, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Ivan Lins, Jacob Collier, Tracy Chapman* and many others from the classic and jazz to hard rock. The song is a work of art in 3 minutes but you should follow the video of the 1st performance or the live version on Avinyó. Cheers
Check the full song and you will like it even more. Search for MARO - "saudade, saudade" (Live in Avinyó). You and your friends will freak out!!! And when you understand the meaning of "saudade" and the rest of the Portuguese lyrics, you will enjoy the greater side of this song.
Maro loves duets, there's a lot of really good ones in her UA-cam channel. Really a must listen, my favourites are the one with Jacob Collier and with Mateus Asato, a brasilian guitar player. About her personality, just this wonderful video : ua-cam.com/video/7BCTIS7c7xA/v-deo.html I'm a super fan now, she is a player, a composer and she can also sing with a particularly beautiful voice! 💛 She will be huge in the future, but still independent because she is a free soul, although also a very down to earth person.
Saudade is a portuguese word that allow us to express a mixture of complex feelings. It's kinda the sadness of missing something or someone (in this particular case, her grandfather) with the reminiscing of the good moments that you had at the same time!

Like Iceland this for me falls into the category of sweet and inoffensive but not high impact. I’d place this higher than Iceland and I do like the live harmonies… but this is a borderline qualifier for me. Nice, but I could take or leave it. Wouldn’t run to crank up the volume when it comes on. Could it qualify? I’d have to look at their competition, but maybe. Would also not be surprised if it just missed out though. Now. Pet peeve: Musicians who put their name or song titles in all caps are a hard no for me. If it’s not an abbreviation, then it’s just plain shouting and I’m not having it. LUMI!X = no. MARO = no. LPS = Yes (because it’s short for something). It’s even worse in song titles where it feels even more like shouting. It’s the equivalent of someone texting at you in all caps. Just don’t. It’s rude. On my personal playlists I change it accordingly (or I’d be annoyed every time I saw it). I refuse to be shouted at. It’s an annoying cry for attention, an idiotic marketing tool at best and it hurts my eyes. There. Rant over. 🤓
@@TheManInBlueFlames I'm glad it does something for others and I'm not saying it's bad. You are very welcome to love it though. I'm sure I like songs that do nothing for you in return... It's just different tastes. And this is just my prediction, I obviously could be wrong! ;-)
I'm not sure about that. There's been a surprising amount of love for it. Even I, a supporter of the song, was shocked at the amount of positivity towards it. The fact that some people are calling the song 'boring' shows that they are really clasping for straws when looking for bad things about the song. As Salvador Sobral once said, 'music is NOT fireworks'. THIS is music!!
@@TheManInBlueFlames Well… I wasn’t a Salvador fan and still am not. It’s just not my style of ballad, I need more raw, less pretty. And don’t get me started on that “fast food music” comment.
