yea makes sense. I guess blowing a head gasket . is a lot better than pushing a piston out the oil pan. I have never blown a head gasket. and I have run lots of compression. and used stock replacement . felpro gaskets. my dad always wants to run the old steel shim gaskets. thinner the better he says. but he don't run high comp pistons. or longer than stock strokes. we only work on old Chevy engines. unless for some reason we need to fix something else. great video. you are helping lots of ppl. in many ways. thanks

After two destroyed pistons ,I said good bye to orings for ever ,stock head gasket and if you combine with arp bolts they can hold 20psi of boost.

Spot on Griff.. Create your own weakest link..heads off much easier than a melted piston

Do you think a manual trans would work with this combo? Im gathering parts to put something similar together soonish but with a 302/351c.

Fiveone Cleveland Thats a great question, i have really thought long and hard about it, and im still thinking to this day... yes and no is my answer. The auto works extremely well in managing power, and keeping the car settled, theres less to do in the cockpit which is a good thing.. The drawback is engine braking... Now the manual would offer that, but i think it would be very challenging to drive between gears the power would upset the balance every time you changed gears with huge torque it produces. Especially while cornering .. im not so sure it would be a better move to be honest.. i think a sequential box would be the best setup, keeps the power on thru gear changes.. That to me would be the ultimate...

Fiveone Cleveland sorry hahaha i was getting carried away.. it would work, but a decent gearbox top loader as a minimum, a huge pressure plate clutch needed... Remember the torque is insane and thats what tears parts up with sticky tires....

A head gasket is the best pressure relief valve you can ever have and their reasonably cheap insurance and a easy fix !! The absolute LAST thing you want or need is foreign material or shrapnel in the oil and or the sump because THAT will destroy EVERYTHING !! Excellent advise my friend ! Seeya Rob

And also for those playing at home..... To use MLS head gaskets the block and heads must be machined differently to using composite gaskets otherwise they will leak! Keep on punching griff! 👍

Gday bud, im my opinion keep it clean, if you have a little leakage from water ports then use a small amount of stop leak in rad...
I'm still having great success with composite gaskets, making reasonable power.. Tune and a realistic boost level is key 👍

Not paper mate its a composite never seen straight paper for a HG to bad this will not work if you throw a rod or even completely wrap the head block deck and ive do more then 50 HG since ive been in the automotive industry .adding turbo to a non turbo engine makes more heat so using the right HG just looking at that gasket in your hand didn't look like a expensive brand looked extremely cheap so say you will make 1000 on that gasket you had in the video will not make 1000 hp @wheels just look at it i bet no name China brand you need a peraseal brand its the same brand as mls .also the mls steel multi ok layered gasket do blow between the cylinder head and block surface still works in the same way as a stock head gasket

GRIFFS REARMOUNT TURBO, The Modfather I use the Felpro 1076 on my NA 355 stroker running just under 11 to 1 compression and never had a drama.

Big Al and you wont either, while there is harmony...i think the problem is there tuning on the ragged edge, wanting the most hp, steel gaskets offer a little more durability, but sometines at the expense of hurting parts..i come too the conclusion that your better off giving up some hp to save your engine when the going gets tuff. A composite gasket will support heaps of power when the combination is right, comp, fuel too match, not to aggressive timing, good air fuels, good cooling system etc, Then a conservative tune, for the time when you're really pushing hard...im glad we are on the same page mate. Cheers..

      GRIFFS REARMOUNT TURBO, The Modfather
Griff, I have engine harmony and I'm not running on the ragged edge tune and timing wise. I've got safety margin built in as it's not worth the few extra horsepower if something goes wrong, cheers mate.
