Nice to hear you talk about the "education game". A game is exactly what it is. I grew up on the outskirts of Boston in the 50's and 60's and had access to the so-called finest schools in the world. I saw with my own eyes the games played by the schools for ranking. I always thought that schools were first designed to provide employment and then, way down on the list, came the student's education. My great hope has always been that technology and remote learning would finally change the system, but the powers that be are well entrenched and sadly it appears the transition process is going to take many, many more years to overcome the money machine of higher education. If you think I'm just a former disgruntled poor student, I'm not as I was always a top honors student and attended those so-called best schools. My hatred for the system has only grown through the years as young people become indebted servants for years just to pay off their "quality" education.
I have a friend who went to Cornell. Came out with a degree on education and $220,000 in debt. His High School teaching job paid $41,000 to start. No way to make that work. I agree, it is big business
Very practical and interesting topic today. Your info will also help us to choose a physician by looking up their credentials once we retire there. Many of my wife’s friends work at the local hospital here in PA. The vast majority attended Santo Thomas University. Also, the Japanese held many US civilians prisoner at Santo Thomas during WWII in less than ideal conditions. The recent book, “ Rampage: MacArthur, Yamashita, and the Battle of Manila“ by James Scott mentions it in great detail. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Mapúa University in Intramuros Manila as a top university. It is especially known for their top engineering programs, sort of the Philippines version of MIT. Nice location in Intramuros too.
No need to forgive. I was plugging Mapua University because my wife attended there. “ Rampage” is an excellent book as well as the You Tube historian Mark Felton’s “ Asian Stalingrad - The Battle of Manila 1945.” Again thank you for all your excellent content Paul.
Great video. Thank you. I have my daughter who's two years from college and would love for her to go to school here in the PH. Nice to hear that there are schools here that are competitive on a global level.
We are going though it at the moment - we have a nephew at Uni of Cebu doing second year nursing, and a niece will start at Cebu Normal University next semester in nursing. They both rank among the top in the Philippines in the Nursing licensure examination results. The budget for the Uni of Cebu four year program is a million pesos (10k monthly allowance plus tuition, projects, etc). At CNU the tuition is a lot less but admission is selective. Culinary training at a top school in Cebu if anyone is interested is a 500k project (about 18 months). But all these kids will work abroad eventually so it really sets them up. A nurse in California can earn $150k . There are low cost pathways though, for those who want to help the young people in their wife's family. A TESDA accredited culinary program might be say 100k, but will still open up pathways to work abroad eventually, for your young people. Well worth it.
Thank you very much for the post and congratulations. So nice to hear this story. The RN programs at several universities here are top notch. Thanks again
The one and only one Inteligent vlogger in the Philipines. I will re watch this video with our Phil kids useful and applicable information. I learned not to judge your title and instead watch all your vlogs. Thank you for your efforts.
Txs again for this excellent and informative video. This time I watched it with my fiancé and her high school kids (you met them on the boardwalk). It is a great tool for me to use.
That was very interesting. I have thought about taking classes in finance because I have really been enjoying my self teaching in the stock market. I really enjoy my investing and growing knowledge. I have a Business degree in management and marketing. But to take finance classes here are so expensive! Maybe fun way to spend some time when there.
Great angle for knowledge Paul. Perhaps you can do a video on the best schools for an expat to learn Tagalog? I know I am very interested in this and possibly many others. Thank you and God bless.
Great suggestion. I have heard many Manila based universities offer non credit language courses. That is what I took at Chulalongkorn in Bangkok. I’ll check
I graduated BSN from Western Mindanao State University rank # 6 top school universities in the Philippines. I did self review for USRN license and passed my RN NCLEX in NY. I remember my parents paid $400 annually for my nursing degree wayback 2005 😂. I work in NY as a remote RN clinical specialist all 15 hospital that my company own. Universities here in NY crazy expensive and students are getting indoctrinated. I told my husband, I am sending our son for college in dilliman university.
thanks a lot for very informative video :) 2 requests (if possible): can u list the universities/schools in details. Also, possible to do same subject video but on Thailand :) Thanks
Watching now, my wife put our niece through UP! The Govt helped with a partial scholarship. She had to serve a 3 year Govt contract then can go wherever she wanted. She is presently in Houston, TexASS !!
Hey Dr. Zoom. Just thought I’d give a suggestion on a future topic. How your Filipina wife could receive your retirement benefits in the event of your passing? Thanks bud, I’m so glad to see your subscriber numbers grow at a rapid rate. I knew you had a good thing going. Hope your channel blows up with support.
@@PaulWorldZoom Hey no problem; I have another topic that would be informative. For someone visiting the Philippines/Thailand for an extended period of time or permanent. How do you approach that in regards to getting money over, opening a bank account, cell phone service, drivers license, and insurance? Thanks Dr. Zoom.
The University of FloriDUH Hospital in Gainesville, FloriDUH has hired my filipina niece( through marriage) as a nurse. Her and my nephew arrive next week in Jacksonville, FloriDUH.
@@PaulWorldZoom Weekly! 30hr + OT, she will be an RN. I will know if they are not treated right. The local hospital hired 2 filipina nurses about 15 years ago and once they finished their contracts, they left for more money.
I always wanted to get an education. This idea of enrolling in a foreign school is really interesting to me. What kind of visa requirements do you need? Could you potentially enroll on extended tourist visas?
You went to some great Universities. I would have been ducking the flying bench chairs in the 🏀 basketball arena from Coach Knight (The General), and I would have been been looking to see if Rudy Ruettiger 🏈 was still hanging around campus, even though he was class of '76. 😂
Whenever I jog around campus at ND people yell Rudy. It is awesome. I went to IU the very next year after he threw the chair but say it on TV. He was fun to watch. Knight vs. Keady was great
If you are not going for a degree, I would be interested in paying students to tutor me in some basic computer skills. 🖥 You could be helping them and yourself ad well
That is odd. My friends ALL pay to go there. I have heard of scholarships if you work in certain low income areas after graduation. Thanks for commenting
Our plan is to bring back our children to Philippines University like UP in BCG or DELA SALLE or SAN AGUSTIN Iloilo, or SAINT LOUIS BAGUIO they are great school.
Interesting topic! What I missed was the woke culture wich is happening in the states , totally correct , same here in the Netherlands I noticed it changed during the years , I don’t think the Universities here adapt that ,
