bodysnatchers is so ethereal and moving, sometimes when I’m listening to it while im doing something else i would just take a moment to just focus all my attention on it to truly feel everything. its just too good for this world. one of my top 10 radiohead songs
In Rainbows just hits different, 15 step is the PERFECT opener track. Bodysnatchers is a heavy but beautiful track to follow, and then Nude… omg it just speaks for itself. Followed by weird fishes, probably the most dreamy sounding track, but it hooks you in as it just builds. And the rest of the album just sounds so unique and interesting. It’s probably one of the best albums of all time, certainly my favourite Radiohead album!
0:39 I love the children noises in 15 steps haha, I remember watching this song live on youtube, there's a moment where the audience did the kids cheering sound and thom york opened a big smile :D
This is a perfect album for me. Makes me happy at times, makes me sad at times. (maybe it's because the lyrics are so abstract I understand them in different ways depending on my mood). Perfect length and every song flows well into the next one. The best mix of their electronics and guitar sounds. Some of Thom's best performances. Man it's so great, and it has All I Need and Reckoner, two of my favorite songs ever. AAAA
apparently for Kid A, thom wrote a bunch of lines on paper, cut it up and put it in a box: then pulled out paper by paper and composed the lyrics to most of the songs like that
the moment where he talked about In Rainbow’s lyrics not being relatable in comparison to Kid A and OKC seemed weird to me considering Thom was intentionally trying to write more simple, relatable lyrics about love in In Rainbows. I mean, Nude? All i Need? House of Cards?
My mother used to play this album in the car on long road trips and there hasn’t ever since been an experience for me quite like hearing “House of Cards” going down a dark highway at 3am. His singing and the atmosphere of the song used to creep me out and I would dread the impending moment it would play.
Fun fact: the synth sample for All I Need was part of an original demo from The Weeknd's The Party and the After Party from his House of Balloons Mixtape!
My favorite Radiohead are OK Computer, In Rainbows, and A Moon Shaped Pool. Kid A got dethroned from third place once I truly started exploring AMSP in depth. There is so much there, and basically all of it is brilliant.
Thanks for these great videos! Had been a casual fan of the band for years, and earlier this year decided to gave this album a go, and WOOOOOOW. In addition to the overall greatness, the second Nude started I was in complete shock, because THAT was the song from the drama Skins' trailer (it fit really well), and the series have had a special place in my heart for freaking ten years. It was such an indescribable yet amazing moment to finally listen to the full track, and this magical album. Kind of funny that these days I was just thinking how precisely the lyrics "You paint yourself white and fill up with noise" depict my recent mood :'D
there's always something so so refreshing in seeing you enjoy an album so much, track by track. it's wonderful! this is no joke one of Radiohead's best work- if not their best, but that's just my opinion, despite if lyrics don't seem to be in the same fashion as for those in OK Computer and such. but i think that's good... it's terribly personal. loved this one brad
I recommend anyone here to watch their The Basement: In Rainbows live set. It is absolutely stunning and I almost keep coming back to it daily. Definitely worth to check out!
A Moon Shaped Pool is just layers of stuff that asks for repeated listens. Melodies, lyrics, sounds...it's got it all. It is sad to think that it might be their last album but it's a great one to end on.
First time listening to this album was one of the best musical experiences I had especially when I was listening to this while a nice distant thunderstorm flashed on in the distance.
The beginning bass alone is entrancing but the ending is f****** godd*mn life changing. The beginning is "boring" but i love it i wish it was longer cause i love the bass soo much
better than I remember sums up this album extremely well, it takes time to grow on you, at least it did for me. I used to not enjoy house of cards that much for instance and now it really resonates with me, the instrumentation is so fucking rich its amazing
Wholeheartedly my favourite album, simply because of how there's just no weak moments in it. Every single track is just fantastic, and elicits such emotion from every repeat of it. It's just breathtaking.
@@immanuelkan1684 you're clearly deaf then. Besides thousands of ppl agree with me, plus when Brad was listening to 15 step, even he basically said it has all the qualities of Radiohead's older stuff but ig your opinion is the only right one 🤷♀️
Radiohead brought it to another level with in Rainbows. Third time they did it so. Quite few bands can boast about such milestone. Perfection (don't know if it's the best among Ok computer and Kid A, but surely my personal favourite).
Man I love this album, perfection. That being said I really can't wait to see your reaction to KoL. And please if you get the time, check out the "from the basement" performances of both albums. The KoL one in particular is such a different experience from the album
This is the greatest album. Ever. Nothing else comes even close. The only song I don't LOVE is Jigsaw. 15 Step has the aggressive drums and vocals. Bodysnatchers gets even crazier with the guitars and screams, amping up. Nude strips completely back till the song is "nude" Weird Fishes amps it back up a little with a catchy consistent groove and chorus but still delving deeper into Thom's fears and darkness. Arpeggio gets darker and heavier. All I need sees him falling deeper into his pit of despair. Crazy.
For the longest time, I could not get into this album. I didn’t understand the hype. But slowly over time, this album grew on me massively and I seriously understand the love people have for it now. Ok Computer will always be my favourite, but this album is a close close second, it’s just incredible.
With most Radiohead songs I look at Thoms lyrics more as something that supports the emotion of the song through sound, rather than something that needs to be analyzed and understood word by word. His voice often works as another instrument in the song that blends in with the other sounds, instead of something that clearly is front and center.
To me, Nude is one of my favorite songs of all time with the most powerful lyrics of all time. They really really resonate with me and the way I read them is this. 'Now that you found it its gone, now that you feel it you don't.' To me that speaks volume as someone who got exactly what they wanted or desired, but now that they had it and it died.. They feel empty.. They feel as if they never even had it in the first place. It's just a memory. This song hit me hard after a break up.
This whole album is amazing, still remember listening to it for the first time with my cousin and being blown away. Weird fishes, All I need, and Reckoner are my favourites as they just take me on a journey to idk tf where but wherever it is it's amazing. This album will always have a special place in my life, and If I ever do make something creative, it will be inspired from whatever it is that it makes me feel
I like what you said about thom's position in weird fishes. I agreeeeee! It was the first time in mainstream music where I realized the theme was going along, almost in real time, with the music itself. As Thom gets more and more entranced by this lover, this figure, this force (whatever it is), the song adds more layers. He reaches this blissful state when the ride first comes in. He revels in it. Then it all cuts out and suddenly he's at the bottom. It's wondrous, magical, mysterious, intriguing at first. But then the cymbal crash and the droning ebow? kicks in. The song is clearly minor now. It hits him. Thom's been led to a trap. He's been seduced by whatever force. It's the scariest feeling to be reeled in like that, and the song still haunts me. When he says he hits the bottom and escapes, my interpretation is that he escapes through death, but maybe I'm just being a sad emo sap or something. One of my favorite songs ever, and a major inspiration for the music I've been involved in. Anyway, thanks for the video! I adore this album and I'm glad you appreciate it =)
Also, regarding all I need, I disagree that it loses momentum. You just have to listen and accept it on its own terms. Of course that's true of anything that would otherwise seem to lose momentum, but I also think it's not as immediately eargasmic as nude and it's the slowest song other than nude up to this point, so its subtleties might pass you by. I recommend paying attention to the drums on your next listen. They're the perfect example of this, especially in the section you're referring to. Superficially, it feels like you immediately understand the beat and the song doesn't really make you think there's more to it, but the little pauses which propel the verse toward the first chorus are mainly caused by these super clean cuts out of the beat, and then a smoot return to it. Maybe you caught that already but you skipped that part in the edit so I'm guessing you didn't have much of a reaction (obviously you also said it wasn't interesting so that adds to my guess lol). Anyway, you strike me as the type of music listener who would see where I'm coming from here. Thanks again for the video!
I'll figure it our later is actually a really good mantra for this album It's themes are very much finding comfort in uncertainty, like house of cards, bodysnatchers, or weird fishes
In Rainbows and OK Computer are among my favorite albums of all time. My wife listened to In Rainbows (which is very different than her usual music listening) and said it was transcendent.
I was well into discovering Radiohead for myself when in rainbows came out and the way they distributed it made them a candidate for my favorite rock outfit of all time.
Nude: is my fav song by this album & one of my fav songs overal, it reminds me of Cinderella dancing scene in the end, & i dont like the movie or anything but i love the vibe for some reason. What he said in nude "you'll go to hell for what your dirty mind is thinking" lol so weird but cool. Love it!
For a while now I have considered this their best album. I love the others and especially Kid A, this one just ascends though. Kid A is more of a coherent arc/theme, but the music on this album is majestic.
The album sounds especially great if you have 'Hail to the Thief' in your head as you enter it. It puts the bad vibe of HTTT to rest immediately in its first chords.
I love when he said "_____" it trully makes you think on how youtube and copyright infringment is really cringe
"I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I'M TAAAAALKING ABOUT"
I guess you and Thom are both in agreement there, Brad.
13:08 Weird Fishes/Arpeggi makes Brad transcend to the next plane of existence. Can’t say I blame him, that song has the same effect on me.
