Actually, Burger Beard's backstory is given in a deleted scene. He actually always wanted to be a fry cook, but his Father forced him to be a pirate. That's why he needed the formula, since he never learned how to cook before.
Plankton: T is for terminating E is for eliminating A is for assassinating M is for mutating when you- *gets cut off* sponge: Plankton that isn't what teamwork is all about.
I seen this movie, and it was surprisingly good. It seems that ever since Stephen Hillensberg came back to produce the show, it's gotten much better these days, and while there are still some weak episode of this season, it's still outweighed by the good episodes, and at least the characters have finally gotten de-flanderized. One of the few cartoons that experienced seasonal rot and was finally able to get back on its feet.
The worst part was the trailer said it would only focus on SpongeBob in the real world while most of it is SpongeBob and Plankton time traveling to find the formula.
The trailer did say "To save their world, they'll have to come to ours." but never said that was the "only" thing Spongebob would do. The trailer did a good job of masking the other big plot elements before that point.
Sinkoi Both of them felt cinematic. Sponge Out of Water raises the stakes just as high as in the first movie, and gives us one big adventure like the first movie. This would never work as an episode. People would be complaining about how it needed to be released in theaters.
@@ihatepewdiepiev2419 I actually liked the dolphin part because it was so out there. But the third act was just pointless. I mean the conflict doesn't need to happen since krabs could just give the pirate a copy of the recipe to operate on the surface . And the plankton subplot was neat but they flushed it down the toilet at the end just for the sake of the status quo
It's been confirmed by Vincent Waller that the third movie does not revolve around the formula and will take place underwater entirely from the last he has heard, so that sounds like an interesting development.
This is a load of barnacles but it's confirmed there will be CGI scenes like in the 2nd movie........ they'll HAVE to be out of Water again at some point
The movie will be an original story about how SpongeBob first met friends Patrick and Squidward at Camp Coral, a summer camp. This movie will be fully CG animated, and will once again involve the characters going into the live action world.
3:27 That actually wouldn't be the first time Plankton tried something like that. He tried something similar in Plankton's Army where he hid inside a fake dollar. That plan only failed because he revealed himself too early, and in his own words, "Never thought I'd get this far."
I honestly really liked the movie up until the final act. From there, it reminded me of all the worst parts about live-action cartoon adaptations like The Smurfs or Alvin and the Chipmunks. It also doesn't really help that I found the seagulls really annoying and Antonio Banderas' character really bland.
A Guy Named Crystal the character models in the third act of the film is very stylized since every live action and animation fail to give the 3D animated character stylized designs but the Spongebob movie 2 finally done it since it's like 2d characters in a 3d world type of vibe
After this movie. The newer episode got better because the creator of the show returned to write this movie and being executive producer on season 9 and onward. I hope the Third movie takes place after the first movie and having a proper ending to the show for the 20th anniversary.
Even though the show is getting better, or is better I do hope that it ends soon. Because before too long the series will end up getting bad again, it would be better ending it soon that way people will have good memories of it.
Honestly, what bugs me about how they introduced Spongebob and company here is that you can very much tell the "Thank Gosh It's Monday" song was originally meant to serve that purpose, and it does that so much better. Why didn't they keep that in?
You know, on the taco house, I think that it was a reference to "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," where in that episode, SpongeBob said that he was in the mood for tacos. Of course, it could also be referring to "SpongeBob, You're Fired," as there was a Mexican food restaurant in that excuse for an episode.
16:27 Um.. pieguy? Remember the time machine got destroyed by the dinosaur Patrick accidentally brought to bikini bottom? Did you you forget or something?
It's kinda sad to see that all of plankton's character development is thrown out the window and it just amounts to him becoming completely evil in the first movie. (Since sponge out of water is a prequel)
In my opinion I give the movie 7.5/10 The first movie was better but I still love the gags and the visuals, I believe the CGI should've been used more like in Bubbles UFO. The 3rd act was great with the action scene and the gags on the beach, but the only complaint I have with this act 3 is that all of plankton's character development was just wasted he just went back to normal, and they should've gave burger beard a back story
In addition: Plankton disguised himself as Sandy (Someone’s in the Kitchen with Sandy) Plankton disguised himself as his grandmother (Gramma’s Secret Recipe) Plankton disguised himself as Gary (Shellback Shenanigans) And probably some more, but I can’t name them
I think that the Burgerbeard plotline underwent a massive rewrite during production, to the point that it just barely resembles what it was originally intended to be. If you look back at the early trailers the plot was going to be; Burgerbeard steals the secret formula because it was written on the last page of his magical book, and in order to make the books magic work he needs to restore the page to the book. I would've preferred if movie used this storyline instead
The best way I can describe the difference between this and the first one? The SpongeBob Movie was a movie. Sponge out of Water was a really long SpongeBob episode. Sure, the SpongeBob Movie was really cinematic and somewhat epic, but it was lacking in comedy in a lot of places, and felt needlessly darker and grimmer than it needed to be: Characters are swearing (even if it's only once or twice), SpongeBob and Patrick die, Mr. Krabs is threatened with death, Neptune is constantly threatening to kill people, there's a lot of scenes that take place in visually dark settings, and Plankton goes from being a comedic villain trying to steal the formula to an evil dictator trying to take over the world using mind control and whatnot. In the series proper, all Plankton wants is to be more successful than Mr. Krabs. He's not trying to take over the world, and while he does talk about domination, he never actively pursues anything more evil than petty theft most of the time. And honestly, could you picture Dennis showing up in a normal SpongeBob episode? He's not a comedic murderer like the Strangler; he's taken very, very seriously. Sponge out of Water has a MUCH lighter tone. Yes, there's the apocalypse, but the lead-in to that plot point was more of a joke than anything actually serious, and nothing actually happening in the apocalypse (aside from trying to sacrifice SpongeBob and holding Karen hostage) was taken very seriously. Not all of the jokes in the movie stick, no, but it at least feels like they're trying to go for a comedic approach to this movie, wheras the first one, it feels like they're trying to go for a serious story, which may work well for other shows, but for a comedic show like SpongeBob, it's best to go for a lighter tone and a more comedic story than something grand and epic.
I love both Spongebob movies, but I certainly prefer the first one. The first one's story was one of self-finding and going over a character arc that could be argued goes back to the very beginning of the series: The childish nature of Spongebob's character. At first he attempts to deny it and even feels ashamed of it, but through his journey with Patrick, he realizes that said childish nature is who he truly is, and learns to embrace it while also learning that just because he's childish, doesn't mean he can't also be responsable, mature and get the job done. Patrick sort of also has one, but it doesn't really conclude in any way, besides the same conclusion Spongebob reaches at the end, just not mentioning it. It's a fantastic animated film that makes me not only laugh but also really enjoy the character arcs. Sponge Out of Water is also a fantastic movie, but I feel that certain parts kind of drag the movie down enough for me to prefer the first movie, like the mentioned time machine issues in your review. Still, the interactions between Spongebob and Plankton as well as seeing Bikini Bottom in a different, Mad Max-esque light are phenomenal, specially since these scenarios are mostly new for the characters. The villain is a bit weak, I agree, and the Superheroes do come out of nowhere (in fact, when I saw the "The Spongers" promotional poster, I feared that the movie would be seasons 6-8 quality of awful) but the action sequences and overall funny tone of the movie makes it easy to overlook said issues.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this movie is an improvement from the first one: sharper comedy, more interesting plot, characters given more to do-but I still like the first film
I know it's been like a year, but the fact that Burgerbeard was a Discount Patchy the Pirate clone annoys me. Hell, they could have made him be a member of Patchy's pirate crew from the last movie who finally snapped and changed his name after Patchy talked about Spongebob *one too many times*, found the book, and threatened to destroy Bikini Bottom as revenge. But no, he's just Some Random Pirate Dude.
The reason they couldn't go back in time again to get the right bottle as because the Squidasorus Rex destroyed it when it came out. I even checked you can see the scene for your self
I agree that this movie was better than the 2004 SpongeBob movie. It had better use of characters that really dont get spotlight. The 2004 movie didn't really make the characters do much and it kind of pisses me off
I respect you'r opinion that the sequel is better than the first movie, but in my opinion it's the other way around, i still think this movie is good, but not as good as the 1st one, in fact i'm sure that alot of people will agree with me
Maybe it's just my nostalgia getting the better of me, but I do like the first movie more. The second movie is still good, I just like the first movie more.
Having also poured my soul into making a looong video review of this movie, I watched it a ton of times. And I think we see eye to eye on a lot of its pros and cons, with some exceptions. For example, I actually enjoyed the surreal nature of tangents like the Bubbles the Dolphin scene and Plankton in SpongeBob's brain (the rainbow Plankton vomits referring to him as his father is lovely). I think they definitely go further with the strangeness than the original seasons often did, but in a way that makes a 15+year old franchise feel surprising and fresh. They were definitely tangents, but in a charming, SpongeBob-esque way. It was the live action scenes that I felt were often more starkly disconnected and pointless than anything else in the film, not because of the animation medium change, but due to the departure from the SpongeBob and Plankton storyline. Why throughout the majority of Act 3 is Plankton, who they've built up as one of the film's two leads, placed in SpongeBob's sock, and given brief moments to pointlessly mislead you into thinking he's an antagonist again? Not only would I'd much rather have seen Plankton having to work with the other characters THROUGHOUT Act 3, I think that's just the way the story was going, especially given the narrative of teamwork. And it'd be extremely new and satisfying to see Plankton working not just alongside SpongeBob, but the rest of the principal cast. But on the whole, I really agree with you that the movie is good. It has lots of funny moments, the 2D animation is gorgeous, the stakes are engagingly high, the difference in ideology between SpongeBob and Plankton makes for a great dynamic, and perhaps best of all, the characters feel like themselves again, which just adds this enriching sense of authenticity to the proceedings. I personally prefer the first film since it really explores the character of SpongeBob and his placement between childhood and adulthood in a very interesting, adventurous, funny, and large-scale way. I think the original film was more focused on emotion whereas this one is more about entertaining the viewer on a moment-to-moment basis, which also absolutely has its merit. So I'm glad both exist, and geez, I don't know about you, but I'm BEYOND curious to see where they go with the third one.
Didn't Plankton already do the "Trojan money" idea in a Season 1-3 episode? I remember an episode where one of his robots order something, and he gives him a dollar with Plankton in it. I THINK it was in "Plankton's Army"?
3:10 Actually, the episode "Plankton's Army" had Plankton hide in a Trojan dollar. But he didn't think past that point and was flushed down the toilet...
The first movie was very nostalgic to me but I still think this is better then the first movie because 6/7 out of the characters actually do something compared to the first which was 4/7 and I don't get the whole being a kid thing when clearly spongebob and Patrick are way bigger then any of the other fry ( which means younger fish for people who don't what that means) in the show
Astrology with Widward well in the first movie the kid thing was because of the way SpongeBob acted and how immature he was not how big he was compared to the other Bikini bottomites
See. sponegbob always gives speeches. Even in the 1st movie he gave a speech. So why on earth did they make an episode of SB being nervous about giving speeches in class? Lectures are his life lol.
I think both the first and second Spongebob movie have their fair share of advantages and disadvantages toward one and other. The first movie feels more cinematic, has way better music, has a plot that challenges the status-quoe more, and of course has much stronger drama. The second movie has better action, better animation, better effects, a more consistently humorous tone (not that the first film doesn't have anything funny though), and utilizes the Spongebob cast a lot better. Regardless of which one people think is better, we can all agree they are both better then Songe On The Run.
i actually remember when i went to see this movie with my younger sister suddenly mentally snapping out of the movie at about halfway through and thinking, "wait.......shorely this is already half over.......when tf are they going to the surface?!?"
There are only 4 Theatrical Movies with traditional animation in this decade (2011-2019): Winnie the Pooh (2011) Sponge out of water (2015) My Little Pony (2017) SpongeBob 3 (2019)
My feelings were mixed. On one hand it was a really fun movie with many great gags and characters that I have become invested in for many year, yet on the other hand it doesn't follow a single - straight forward - story-arc. It jumps from the secret formula disappearing and the post apocalyptic theme, to a spongebob and plankton buddy-comedy, to a weird superhero fight at the end. Oddly enough, my favourite part of the whole film was the time travel sequences. The "Squeeze Me" song is catchy as the animation was visually pleasing. I just feel, had they stuck to one element of the story and developed it a little further, this could have been a fantastic movie. However, it's been interesting hearing your constructive criticism and saying that you enjoyed this film more so than the first. You're the first critic I've come across to say this but it's refreshing. You stray away from the obvious arguments and give a new idea on something. I really enjoy watching your spongebob, and general, reviews because of your critical and nostalgic balance. It has helped me to shape the way I critique things.
I liked the movie, though the trailer made it seem like there would be more "out of the water" scenes rather than underwater, but the actual movie was the other way around.
To be honest, I disagree. I thought this movie was just "okay", but definitely on the upper side of okay. The movie kind of felt like a rough draft and needed to be developed a lot more. There's a lot of things that are unexplained and random (the book, the super heroes, etc.) and felt like they need a lot more explanation/foreshadowing. This movie has good concepts, but the execution was fairly flawed. Again, it's not a bad movie. I think it's just alright. But I can see why a lot of people would like it.
At least the entire way they resolved the problem wasn't unexplained -_- I'm sure if you think about the plot too much you can say "hey this doesn't make sense!" but this isn't the movie that needs a tightly woven script. The fact that it was able to use most of the characters, had more original and funny jokes and original jokes(instead of haha their naked) , as well as have you know a proper ending instead of the entirely random song that saved the day for no apparent reason. Makes it a better *SPONGEBOB* film than the first (imo) (you could say that I'm worrying too much about the ending but ....its the ending... when the ending makes no sense you feel like you've been cheated of the entire film)
Avis Reviews The reason why this movie is more random than the previous film is because, unlike the first one that was more like an adaption of the TV show, this one is more so a surrealistic comedy that is it's own thing.
+NEW VIDS IN NEXT 1-2 MONTHS. I think you're worrying about the first movie too much in general instead of just the ending No matter how much you don't like the first movie, how does that make up for the second movie? The second movie is it's own thing, and just because another movie is worse in your opinion shouldn't sway your opinion. I mean, if we were going by that logic, that means almost every single movie is good just because Foodfight is bad.
I would actually say this is a better adaption of the tv show than the first with this feeling more like an extended spongebob episode while the first felt more "serious" and "edgy" and more beat for beat a regular normal movie... unlike the show...
I love this movie but i always sort of lose interest when they leave the ocean. My favourite thing of this movie is all the interactions of Spongebob and Plankton and the amount of character development from the two of them, with also the fact that Plankton is a great straightman for Spongebob's comedy. Sadly, that was simply gone when they got in the human world and all the characters that now became important to the movie were just there and nothing compared to Plankton. Also, the 2D animation was really really good and that magic got lost when things got 3D, becoming more of an stereotype of what a Spongebob movie would be. I still love it but i wish things had never left Bikini Bottom, the stakes were high enough already.
I like this film, it was an Acid Trip, but it felt fun to watch. Though it does piss me off that the town never ONCE apologizes to Spongebob for essentially almost killing him. He comes back and it's like "I know we destroyed the city, blamed you for everything, almost killed you, and that you just saved the town, but instead of saying sorry, could you make us thousands of Krabby Patties?" It's just something that gets under on my nerves, and honestly I would not forgive them for everything that they did if that was me.
The final few minutes of your vid depressed me because of how true your statement is. I hope Dreamworks can finally release ME and My Shadow so we can get some traditional animation back to the theater.
After hearing this review, I was surprised to hear how much 2D animation was in this movie. I've only seen the trailers, and from them, I figured about 70% was CGI/live-action.
Mermaid and Barnacle Boy mag have actually been the only secondary/tertiary characters not in the movie. I think even characters like Larry were in the background of the apocalypse. I think a really good way of implementing them would have been to have spongebob and Patrick transform into superheroes with their MM and BB suits. And whether they were to do that or not, they could've had a scene where Patrick messed up something small in the fight and spongebob would go to support him. Spongebob would say something along the lines of "Think of what Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy would do..." and after like a 20 second or so speech, Patrick would feel motivated to get up and fight. And they could even make him be a big contributing factor to them winning the fight. All of this would have made the reference to MM and BB, made Patrick back into an awesome and lovable character, and made a nice, short motivational, emotional speech that could've been full of reference to old classic episodes. Just my opinion though. Reply with what you guys think of the idea! P.S. I feel I might be the only person who noticed this on my first time watching, because I never hear anyone else mention this, including Pieguy. Anyway, one of the times they show Burgerbeards patty truck(I think it's the first time), if you look at the lineup for the half a second that its shown, you can actually see the ERB guys in line. So that ending was actually somewhat foreshadowed!
I also like Sponge Out of Water better than The Spongebob Squarepants Movie because it has better use of the main show's familiar characters and settings instead of being another animated road trip movie, and finds creative ways to blend four different styles of animation and remembers to credit all four teams of animators. It also gives us a far more interesting storyline about the main characters traveling out of water than Pressure and Rodeo Daze.
Gotta admit, kinda surprised you liked this one more than the first one as when I watched this movie, I felt the opposite. The Original SB Movie is a much stronger piece story and character wise while the sequel...prequel...the 2nd movie had it's moments but fell flat with some important elements i.e. the Villain and had a lot of scenes that just felt random and out of place. Different strokes I guess.
It's been a while since I've seen this film, but I definitely remember enjoying it, in spite its flaws. Though I personally found the first film a little better, mainly because the story was more cohesive. That one also felt like an actual movie, whereas "Sponge Out of Water" kind of felt more like three random episodes that somehow got strung together. But again, it was still fun and even felt like a taste of older Nickelodeon, especially with that song from the time travel scene. Your critiques for this movie were also really good, especially on improving Burger Beard's character and tying in the superhero stuff.
I agree with the advertising being mostly just 3D animation. Same thing goes with the name of the movie. If I were to rename it, it would be "The Ultimate Patty Caper". Because "Patty Caper" is an episode, and "The Great Patty Caper" is a special. I was bothered by the way they promoted this. I was expecting it to be in 3D way longer.
Spongebob Movie 1: Spongebob and Patrick adventure with the main villian being plankton Sponbebob Movie 2: Spongebob and Plankton adventure with the main villian being some random pirate lel. Spongebob Movie 3: Spongebob and Patrick adventure and god this movie sucks
Fun Fact: I checked and proved that there's 29 minutes and 53 seconds worth of live-action content (including the CGI) if you add the 20 minutes and 44 seconds of SpongeBob and friends out of the water and 9 minutes and 9 seconds of the live-action without them.
33:45 This was especially bad for my younger sister in particular, since her assuming the film was entirely CG was the reason she didn't want to see the film.
I thought the movie was...fine. I don't think it's as good as the first movie, it didn't have the same heart and comedy as the first. However, I do think this was pretty enjoyable, like a pleasurable time waster.
Okay, here’s the thing. We don’t really see many 2-D animated movies in theaters anymore because 3-D animated movies have a much bigger and wider audience (for some reason). They most likely showed a majority of the 3-D animation in the trailer as a business decision, which makes sense.
Honestly they should’ve made this the series finale. I haven’t seen it but based on the way you describe it it sounds alot like a series finale. Wouldn't have that been better? Plankton learns the value of friendship and gives up his evil ways. Hell, he could even decide to move away from the Bikini Bottom and try to find himself since he wasted his whole life being angry and spiteful of someone who was his best friend. Karen could be shut down permanently and he could try to find a new wife, Squidward gets to live his life in his dream body, Spongebob stays at the Krusty Krab as the new manager, and Mr. Krabs gets to keep his formula and even have a heartfelt mom with Plankton leaving and forgive him for trying to steal from him after all those years. There could’ve even been an end credits scene with Burger Beard and Patchy meeting with each other. Everyone could've gotten their own happy ending and the series could’ve ended in a satisfying way. But as MysteriousMrEnter put it, “the status quo is God.” Now that Stephen Hillenburg came back it’s obvious that the series won’t be ending anytime soon, and that worries me. It’s good that Spongebob is getting better, but I want Nickelodeon to move on a focus on their other amazing cartoons. Legends of Korra was treated so poorly because it wasn’t an instant hit and didn’t draw in the amount of money that Spongebob did, so Nickelodeon ignored it. Same thing with Harvey Beaks and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It’s good that Loud House is gaining popularity and Nickelodeon is paying attention to it, but until they let Spongebob die with dignity those shows will never get the care and attention that they deserve. I know it’s hard to hear that Spongebob should get cancelled, but if you don’t let good shows die with dignity like Hey Arnold and Gravity Falls then it’s gonna end up like Family Guy and the Simpsons where they become zombies of themselves just idly telling the same jokes said a million times and never movie forward.
After watching this movie , I find that are a lot of things about it that remind me of episodes from the older seasons . There's a friendship between Spongebob and Plankton like in the F.U.N episode Plankton goes in Spongebob's brain There's time travel like in SB 129 They go to the surface like in the movie and the pressure episode And the characters get superpowers like in Mairmaid man and barnacle boy V
I like the first movie more because I think it flowed better. Overall it was a better story about SB growing up; clear hero's journey. The second film had moments that could've been handled better or elaborated on, and it felt a little disjointed/random at times. Basically it's like picking your favorite fruit (mine's pineapple :P) which movie you prefer! At least both had funny moments. We have the one that's like a single ep. plot stretched into a film and the other that has 3 very distinct acts. I find it interesting.
Honestly iʻve been thinking the same thing for over 12 years. The show was originally going to be ended by the creator after the first movie because he was leaving it for some apparent reason that i donʻt remember but the sponge had risen to success and Nickelodeon starting bleeding the show out to become a cash cow. Popularity keeps the show alive and i do realize that many people want the show to die but honestly iʻm neutral. Yes, the obvious drop in quality made me lose a bit of respect for the show after the creator left but as of now its kinda the only positive show currently on Nick. There was Harvey Beaks but they screwed that up and i know pretty much everyone loves Loud House except me. When the sponge dies, so does Nick well at least thats what i think because they really donʻt have enough support to hold them up. Then again thats me sorry if i wasted your time with this comment but this show has always had a special place in my heart and no other long running can top it with the exception of South Park
As a huge Spongebob fan I thought this movie was fine, most of the humor was fairly chuckle worthy but I could tell that it lacked the edge that made the first 3 seasons and the first movie so good, although Stephen Hillenberg was involved with this movie the writing felt a lot more……juvenile than before, this felt more like something strictly made for kids as opposed to kids and adults like before, which is also something I noticed with the episodes that came after this movie, this movie wasn’t quite the return to Spongebob’s glory days like I hoped it would be but it’s a fine enough edition to the franchise and it is still better than post first movie Spongebob
I didn't watch this film for two reasons. I haven't seen Spongebob in a while, but that's only a minor reason. The major reason for me not seeing it was the trailers.
I do like this film, but I could never think it's superior to the original. That film just has TOO many childhood defining moments for me to not consider it a favorite. I would chalk that up to just nostalgia but upon rewatch, The Spongebob Squarepants Movie simply has more memorable moments and I think it's going to hold up better in the years to come as a comedy. This film doesn't have its David Hasselhoff moment, or the "Tear of the Goofy Goober!" moment, or that hilarious "Now that We're Men" sequence. Or the Bubble Blowing Baby line. Or the finale. It's just has more iconic and creative moments whereas Sponge Out of Water is funny but by and large not as quotable or memorable as the first.
A cool twist for why the Krabby Patty formula was missing: It's missing, so they go back in time to retrieve it. They steal it from the past. But that's how it went missing. in that timeline. So then past Spongebob goes back in time since it was missing (due to being stolen by the future) Etc.
Also, I'm not criticizing you, but I find it odd you didn't look at this movie from a regular movie perspective and a spongebob fan perspective like you did with your spongebob movie 1 review ..... Another being that you went through the whole plot of this movie but not for the first movie. I hope you can do some sort of comparison between the two someday in a future video
Aw man, I feel ya. I love this movie, but the moment I saw the ads for it, I knew that all of the CG stuff was only going to take up a small portion of the movie. Because let's face it, all previews nowadays give away all of the best parts of the movie, even if it doesn't take up that much of the movie. I can't believe, as a side note, that I found myself thinking the exact same things as you did when I saw this movie, though I was lucky enough to never see the ad that spoiled the main villain for me.
2:54 I never thought someone could say "It reminds me of One Coarse Meal" in a positive light
I'm honestly glad about that.
That was the opening of One Coarse Meal, which was the only enjoyable part in the episode
He was talking about the begjnning
Actually, Burger Beard's backstory is given in a deleted scene. He actually always wanted to be a fry cook, but his Father forced him to be a pirate. That's why he needed the formula, since he never learned how to cook before.

Did you know that Stephen Hillenburg passed away back in November 2018?

but I agree that it's a GOOD movie.
The trailer did say "To save their world, they'll have to come to ours." but never said that was the "only" thing Spongebob would do. The trailer did a good job of masking the other big plot elements before that point.
First movie: Felt big and cinematic

Sinkoi Both of them felt cinematic. Sponge Out of Water raises the stakes just as high as in the first movie, and gives us one big adventure like the first movie. This would never work as an episode. People would be complaining about how it needed to be released in theaters.

that's actually good.
Yay! These traits alone will surely make the 3rd movie stand out better!
This is a load of barnacles but it's confirmed there will be CGI scenes like in the 2nd movie........ they'll HAVE to be out of Water again at some point
This is a load of barnacles I swear i have seen you on 20fadhil's vids
The movie will be an original story about how SpongeBob first met friends Patrick and Squidward at Camp Coral, a summer camp. This movie will be fully CG animated, and will once again involve the characters going into the live action world.
The first movie got "Meh"
And this one got "Good"...
That's the first time I hear somebody says that...
I actually liked the first Chipmunks, Film Brain and Todd in the Shadows did too.
A Guy Named Crystal I agree, the birds shouldn't have been there. They don't do anything important and were annoying.
A Guy Named Crystal the character models in the third act of the film is very stylized since every live action and animation fail to give the 3D animated character stylized designs but the Spongebob movie 2 finally done it since it's like 2d characters in a 3d world type of vibe
And it draaaaaaaggggged.
For me at least.
What are the worst parts in question that Sponge Out of Water became?
After this movie. The newer episode got better because the creator of the show returned to write this movie and being executive producer on season 9 and onward. I hope the Third movie takes place after the first movie and having a proper ending to the show for the 20th anniversary.
It wasn't confirmed. But i hope it ends
I found it quite odd that the third film is just going to ve called "The SpongeBob Movie" and nothing more. It has me wondering what it will be about.
Even though the show is getting better, or is better I do hope that it ends soon. Because before too long the series will end up getting bad again, it would be better ending it soon that way people will have good memories of it.
reversalmushroom umm he's the showrunner now. that's like, the biggest role in any tv production. it's the same role he had on season 1-3.
Shamaboy S They definitely got more boring though
Honestly, what bugs me about how they introduced Spongebob and company here is that you can very much tell the "Thank Gosh It's Monday" song was originally meant to serve that purpose, and it does that so much better. Why didn't they keep that in?
"i Don't Recall SpongeBob Ever Giving You A Choice.." -Patrick Star 2015
Don't forget squidward's dance from culture shock in the credits
I'm glad SpongeBob is getting better. Season 10 is really good.
I can't wait for PGR's thoughts on season 9b and 10!
HPFMav Glad to hear!
I love how the animation shifted to a more modern type of feel if you know what I mean
HPFMav I just wish they'd tone it down with the gross-out. It feels like every episode I've seen so far has lots of gross-out.
@@masterskidward7345 I think you mistaken these seasons for season 6.
Burger beard's backstory was a deleted scene.
Johnny MSObsidiana So Brian’s a Bad Father effect?
You know, on the taco house, I think that it was a reference to "Welcome to the Chum Bucket," where in that episode, SpongeBob said that he was in the mood for tacos. Of course, it could also be referring to "SpongeBob, You're Fired," as there was a Mexican food restaurant in that excuse for an episode.
16:27 Um.. pieguy? Remember the time machine got destroyed by the dinosaur Patrick accidentally brought to bikini bottom? Did you you forget or something?
maybe he means right before that moment?
Me
No, he didn’t. He even corrected himself in a tweet, and that wouldn’t even make any sense.
It's kinda sad to see that all of plankton's character development is thrown out the window and it just amounts to him becoming completely evil in the first movie.
(Since sponge out of water is a prequel)
"l don't know why they didn't ask Squidward for help"
BECAUSE HE'S BLOODY SQUIDWARD! it's like asking Krabs for financial support!
I personally enjoyed this movie. It was a nice return to form for SB. I remember getting hyped for it because of Stephen Hillenburg's return. :)
Actually the reason they can't go back is because Patrick went back in time and the squidosarus broke the time machine
Do you like first movie it second movie
IGN: 3/10 to much water
In my opinion I give the movie 7.5/10
The first movie was better but I still love the gags and the visuals, I believe the CGI should've been used more like in Bubbles UFO. The 3rd act was great with the action scene and the gags on the beach, but the only complaint I have with this act 3 is that all of plankton's character development was just wasted he just went back to normal, and they should've gave burger beard a back story
Wasn't there an episode in one of the early seasons where Plankton disguised himself as money?
Plankton's Army
He would also learn from this apparently, since he would go on to disguise himself as money in Married to Money.
In addition:
Plankton disguised himself as Sandy (Someone’s in the Kitchen with Sandy)
Plankton disguised himself as his grandmother (Gramma’s Secret Recipe)
Plankton disguised himself as Gary (Shellback Shenanigans)
And probably some more, but I can’t name them
Schnickelo That was only at the beginning.
Michael Reed Plankton disguised himself as Mr. Krabs (Imitation Krabs)
Consider the first movie a Knight of Cerebus, then.
DarkK~ I agree
agreed
Seasons 6 and 8 weren’t bad
@@caleb8676 yeah i agree they were fucking terrible
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this movie is an improvement from the first one: sharper comedy, more interesting plot, characters given more to do-but I still like the first film
And maybe, just maybe, the third movie will be the series finale.
@@maxshapiro078 lol, the first movie is canonically the finale, as Stephen originally wanted.
@@maxshapiro078 boo womp
@@HazerV2No its not
The only reason I believe people think the first movie is better is because of the Nostalgia Power it had.
I thought SpongeBob would end after this movie but I was wrong.
It's been a while since I last saw you.
Cartoon Lover Forever
3:40 MARRIED TO MONEY REFERENCE
Yep. He said he saw season 9b!
Anime Central Ultra this cake before Married to Money.
My favorite bad Spongebob advertisement is the Clash of Triton since it makes it seem like there will be a big battle between Spongebob and Triton
The 2004 movie didn't really make the characters do much and it kind of pisses me off
I am so glad to see someone else in the comments section who noticed that obvious improvement in Sponge Out of Water.
I respect you'r opinion that the sequel is better than the first movie, but in my opinion it's the other way around, i still think this movie is good, but not as good as the 1st one, in fact i'm sure that alot of people will agree with me
Yeah the first movie was a classic
Sackboy Warrior it seems a bit overly nostalgic but it actually is a good film so yeah I think that the first will always be a classical good film
Maybe it's just my nostalgia getting the better of me, but I do like the first movie more. The second movie is still good, I just like the first movie more.
Sackboy Warrior I agree, the story had batter pacing, comedy and heart
Yup. Definitely agree with you there.
Now I have the idea of Spongebob singing "Everything is Awesome" stuck in my head
Didn't Plankton already do the "Trojan money" idea in a Season 1-3 episode? I remember an episode where one of his robots order something, and he gives him a dollar with Plankton in it. I THINK it was in "Plankton's Army"?
Movie was ok. Felt like it needed a few more drafts and needed to be longer.
Nice video. I love these videos and you honestly are the best critic on youtube
I completely understand you don’t wish to do the every episode of Spongebob anymore but I’d love to hear your thoughts on the third film
See. sponegbob always gives speeches. Even in the 1st movie he gave a speech. So why on earth did they make an episode of SB being nervous about giving speeches in class? Lectures are his life lol.
I like how you split the review into acts.
This movie came out over 2 years ago wow time flies
5 years ago...
i actually remember when i went to see this movie with my younger sister suddenly mentally snapping out of the movie at about halfway through and thinking, "wait.......shorely this is already half over.......when tf are they going to the surface?!?"
Me too... but with my parents.
A whole team being required to beat Burger Beard is reasonable considering how powerful he is, at least I think it is.
There are only 4 Theatrical Movies with traditional animation in this decade (2011-2019):
Winnie the Pooh (2011)
Sponge out of water (2015)
My Little Pony (2017)
SpongeBob 3 (2019)
And Teen Titans Go to the Movies
I guess mayonnaise really is an instrument. An instrument of death!
To be fair, SpongeBob would do something silly like turn everyone into superheroes, but yeah, they should've foreshadowed it more.
It got more psotive reviews from critics than the first, there seems to be a disconnect there.
I think you're worrying about the first movie too much in general instead of just the ending
No matter how much you don't like the first movie, how does that make up for the second movie? The second movie is it's own thing, and just because another movie is worse in your opinion shouldn't sway your opinion.
I mean, if we were going by that logic, that means almost every single movie is good just because Foodfight is bad.
I would actually say this is a better adaption of the tv show than the first with this feeling more like an extended spongebob episode while the first felt more "serious" and "edgy" and more beat for beat a regular normal movie... unlike the show...
I actually like the dolphin scene tbh
I can see that
Your name is 'The Meme Crusading Dolphin'. I wouldn't have guessed that you like the dolphin.
Who would've guessed? XD But, I agree. I liked the dolphin scene, too.
What does thb mean
jxbunky to be honest
The 3D segments are really good on their own right, but it feels like it belongs to a different Spongebob movie with two acts that fit more.
i want to see a 94 min movie abot gary the snail
I like this film, it was an Acid Trip, but it felt fun to watch. Though it does piss me off that the town never ONCE apologizes to Spongebob for essentially almost killing him. He comes back and it's like "I know we destroyed the city, blamed you for everything, almost killed you, and that you just saved the town, but instead of saying sorry, could you make us thousands of Krabby Patties?" It's just something that gets under on my nerves, and honestly I would not forgive them for everything that they did if that was me.
This will be the best 35 minutes of my day!
As much as I really like Sponge Out of Water, it has absolutely nothing on the first film. That movie is so much better!
The final few minutes of your vid depressed me because of how true your statement is. I hope Dreamworks can finally release ME and My Shadow so we can get some traditional animation back to the theater.
Plankton! You knew I'd never distrust a dollar!
The Flying Dutchman was absent too, but I doubt it would have made sense for him to show up.
Spongebob and Plankton couldn't go back to get the right bottle because the Time Machine was broken by the Dinosaur
Burger beard? Shit all this time I was calling him butterbeard
I just realized that Pieguy in real life has a goatee but his piecons don't
I love this movie and I’m not afraid to say it.
Glad I'm not the only one who prefers the new movie.
Spongebob Movie 1: Spongebob and Patrick adventure with the main villian being plankton
Sponbebob Movie 2: Spongebob and Plankton adventure with the main villian being some random pirate lel.
Spongebob Movie 3: Spongebob and Patrick adventure and god this movie sucks
The "out of water" parts were ok, I liked the traditionally animated parts a lot better than the CG ones :)
Fun Fact: I checked and proved that there's 29 minutes and 53 seconds worth of live-action content (including the CGI) if you add the 20 minutes and 44 seconds of SpongeBob and friends out of the water and 9 minutes and 9 seconds of the live-action without them.
Plankton used money as a trap in Planktons Army
Come on, Pieguy, time for Every 9B episode reviewed!
I loved that pirate crew idea. Replace the seagulls with pirates (make them like his bumbling maties) and maybe a parrot to snark them off like Potty
After watching this movie , I find that are a lot of things about it that remind me of episodes from the older seasons .
There's a friendship between Spongebob and Plankton like in the F.U.N episode
Plankton goes in Spongebob's brain
There's time travel like in SB 129
They go to the surface like in the movie and the pressure episode
And the characters get superpowers like in Mairmaid man and barnacle boy V
You're actually a pretty good movie reviewer.
I remember seeing it in theaters and then immediately forgetting what happened in it.
I like SpongeBob but I think it's about time the show ended. It's been on for just too long.
Oh how on earth could I forget FOP? I like that show as well but it needs to end
I especially agree with Fairly Odd Parents. I personally think that show's seasonal rot is WAY worse than SpongeBob's.
Schnickelo you read my mind
Uncle Grandpa Hey it's cool we all have our opinions
I like both films. Plus, the video games of the first movie were awesome.
A cool twist for why the Krabby Patty formula was missing:
It's missing, so they go back in time to retrieve it.
They steal it from the past.
But that's how it went missing. in that timeline.
So then past Spongebob goes back in time since it was missing (due to being stolen by the future)
Etc.
In my opinion the second movie feels like Seasons 1-4 and the first movie feels like Season 5.
agreed!
When you said "torture scene", I immediately thought of Cars 2.
In my opinion, it was a great movie, but wasn't as good as the first one.
That means it's almost time for season 9b!!!!!
