      Huge thanks to both Eko for this vid and Subquake for the so far amazing overhaul. After trying and utterly hating every other overhaul I've ever installed and rage quitting before day 3, I'm 4 game days into Undead Legacy and so far I'm loving it! I am finding it ridiculously difficult to find any educational resources on UL though, which is why I am so grateful to Eko for this vid, but I def want more! UA-camrs, please, less Let's Play (even though I enjoy that too), and more education and guidance. If I have to learn by watching other people play a full session, I'd rather just not give videos any views and learn by playing myself. It's almost exactly the same time commitment on my part. Even in vanilla, I find the the UA-cam 7D2D community is about 85-95% Let's play, with 5-15% learning. I watch Let's Plays to fall asleep (yes I'm a weirdo, and yes I do dream about battling zombies). So I'm hugely appreciative of any streamers that also provide guides, tips and tricks, etc. Thanks again to both of you! So far this is literally the one and only video I have found on UA-cam that is actually an instructional Undead Legacy vid.

      Thanks for the feedback David -- I actually wasn't planning on making this until I stared playing through and went looking for Undead Legacy guides and came up with nothing. I will be doing both - over the next month I will be doing a heavy Undead Legacy push with several tutorial types vids as well as a playthrough (because my community has been asking me to do one and I've been loving the hell out of this mod. Let me know if there is any info you are looking for in particular that I can cover-- I'm planning on a 2nd tips vid, and likely a deep dive on all the workstations.

      @@WaywardEko a deep dive on workstations sounds great! As I'm getting my feet wet with UL, I'm getting more accustomed to the mod, but I still feel like there are things I may be missing. I have to say, it's starting to seem like this mod is all grind for grind's sake, which I don't love at all, but there are still aspects that keep me playing it instead of vanilla. Perhaps you have some insights on how to make the grind more manageable. For instance, me and my buddy I play co-op with have decided to switch to horde nights every 14 days instead of 7, because it feels like on 7 day hordes you basically need to grind all week long and never get to do any of the fun day to day stuff like questing, unless you luck out early on and find a great POI in your city to make into a horde base. But I would prefer 7 day hordes, it's just such a bummer if you can't find a good POI to convert. I'll never understand why gamers seem to love the grind so much. I already have a job IRL, thank you (but to each their own, I suppose). So maybe tips and tricks to lessen the grind. There are so many aspects of Undead Legacy that are so much better than vanilla (the carry weight system, being able to collect almost any object, the variety of vehicles and the ability to repair them, etc), but I'm starting to get turned off because of what a grind it is. I feel like I have to devote every hour of the first 6.5 days to mining and crafting just to get our horde base halfway adequate, and we're still having to bail out midway through the horde. It leaves no time for questing and home base building (granted, a lot of people don't care about making a nice, attractive home base, but I do!) and exploring the map, all things that matter to me way more than doing virtual chores to survive horde nights. I'm not ready to give up on Undead Legacy yet. There's so much to like (like spamming my buddy's base with mannequins from the Savage Country!), but I'm feeling bogged down. Perhaps I'm missing things that a little instruction could help me with. Keep on keeping on though! Love the content so far!

    I've been playing for 87 game days and good tip I figured out is if you stumble across a rachet or wrench early on a good way to get scrap iron fast and less wear on pickaxe is to go to flatbed trailer or any trailers (after you loot it of course) and take apart the wheels and center and the whole thing crumbles leaving tons of iron beams to harvest. They only take 2 hits each then and easily get 180-300+ scrap iron.

  • @JohnDiFrancesco
    @JohnDiFrancesco Рік тому +10

    Tips for UL 2.6:
    UL is very grindy and resource-hungry. Be prepared to spend large amounts of time mining or salvaging resources, especially iron. It's almost mandatory to perk into Strength and max out Miner 69er. Salvage operations is also helpful to maximize the resources you get from scrapping, especially vehicles.
    There are some bottlenecks and challenges with upgrading workstations.
    To make an artisan table you need bricks, but bricks are made in a furnace, which you need an artisan to make. So, you will need to purchase bricks or salvage pallets of stone blocks or bricks to get the first 10 bricks needed to make the artisan table. After that you can make the furnace and craft all the bricks you need.
    Until then, you can make wood frames in the carpenter's table and upgrade them to wood using planks, then upgrade to "flagstone" blocks using large stones, no artisan table required. Stone blocks are good enough to fortify your first base and for the first couple horde nights. Upgrade to bricks after you have the artisan table and furnace.
    Keep an eye out for small engines, table saws, acid, military fiber, and beakers. You will need them to upgrade workstations. If they show up in trader inventory, grab them if you can afford them.
    The Tier 3 chemistry station requires forged titanium, which can only be made in a Tier 3 forge. Upgrading the forge to Tier 3 requires military fiber, which can only be made in a Tier 3 chemistry station. So, you will need to obtain that military fiber some other way - by recycling (ideally hazmat suit pieces or barracks chairs), salvaging, looting, or purchasing at a trader.
    Crafting and upgrading weapons and armor is very time-consuming and resource intensive, especially at higher tiers where the chance to fail is high and you lose the upgrade materials. It may be less frustrating to just wait until you find higher tier gear in loot, at the trader, or as a quest reward.
    Early game, the grind for data is kind of brutal. Think carefully about reading magazines or schematics that you may not really need or won't need right away. The skill books in particular only raise a skill by 1 point and should probably be scrapped for data unless they are in your primary skills.

    One thing that should be mentioned: things that you pick up and scrap may yield different resources compared to just destroying them in place. For example, a leather couch only gives leather when you axe it, but when picked up scraps to wood. Boxes, on the other hand, give like 3 paper when axed, but 20 when picked up and scrapped.

    • @_Grumpy_Panda_
      @_Grumpy_Panda_ Рік тому +5

      Sometimes depends on the item you used to break it apart too. If you use an axe on a couch, you get planks, scrap wood, and nails, as well as leather, or cloth.

    @whiteraven550 Рік тому +8

    Few more tips:
    - Do NOT scrap your copper coils. They seem to not be important for crafting but they are needed to upgrade certain late game tools. The can't be crafted and are quite rare.
    - get one coffee maker and water cooler for your base to fill liquids from jars to plastic bottles since the weigh less. Also get a water barrel to fill murky water into jars or plastic bottles because certain recipes only take water from one of these containers.
    - start picking up PCs, TVs and electric boxes to disassemble in the disassembling station, even before getting the station.
    - transformers and streetlights gain you steel when wrench, but can also be picked up to wrench later (if you haven't found a wrench yet or want to safe daylight and wrench at night).
    -Vehicle storage, like the player inventory, is weight based. BUT there is also a maximum slots that can be used. Alway sort your inventory by weight before dumping stuff in your vehicle to be as efficient aa possible. Most of the time the slot limit will be reached before the weight limit.
    -Try setting for your favorite type of meele and ranged weapons early as switching around a lot comes with the downside of spreading your action skills.
    -While being rather loud to open in your base, the main loot containers can be picked up to create easy stashes on the street to retrieve your loot at a later time. They have more storage capacity than cardboard boxes, have more hp and don't need to be carried around all the time.
    -Honey seems to be rather rare, so maybe only eat it when the infection has already progressed a bit. Getting infected at the next punch you take might kill you if you can't find another honey.

    Thanks, I have been playing Undead Legacy for a while. This will help those that have struggled getting started, it is a different progression from vanilla, so this is must watch. I think your workstation order makes sense in the order I have played, but key is to think ahead and check the recipes and the requirements. I have seen a lot of playthroughs that get hosed because you need to build the Artisan's table to build X, and X needs to be built level 2 carpenter's table. The intricacy of those recipes may catch you out. In some cases you may find items needed at the trader, but best to be self sufficient. One gotcha from vanilla is you do not get a pre-made bicycle after doing your first 10 quests, you get the recipe and some parts, so you can grind the additional parts for the bicycle or venture to create a bicycle repair kit. Again love this mod!

      @@WaywardEko wanted to get your opinion on how I feel about UL. I feel like there are WAY TO MANY work stations but I love the tier system with upgrading them. My big issue with the amount of stations is UL basically forced you to have a massive base; it removed the style of gameplay to keep a low profile. I like the complexity of the station upgrade system but 12+ workstations is way too much, mostly because it requires too much space!

    Solid tips to get through the early days, which is especially tough for players new to the mod. That tip on the loud loot crate (and anything similar like a fridge or even later the metal storage box)
    is bigger than it might seem. Zeds spawn much more densely at night and opening one while sorting through your stuff can lead to ferals and the like storming your base. Avoid them and just use more ordinary boxes.

    Don't forget to upgrade your tools, weapons, armor and especially mods in the Maintenance table. Going from H to G doesn't take any research data and every little buff is important. Therefore, don't throw anything away, keep all the loot. Even cotton is important for upgrading armor or pocket mods.

    Just one tip, i personally think that the best weapon early game is the scrap katana, it may not have the knockback but it can one shot most zombies and is fast (just remember to carry a spare cause its durabillity is a joke). And at night when you are at home crafting, put out your armor e carry some engines or something to double your weight limit, your speed will be cut to 10%, but you'll level up the skill twice as fast to raise your weight limit

    • @WaywardEko
      @WaywardEko  2 роки тому +5

    • @MyAmazingUsername

      @@WaywardEko UL's author has a spreadsheet of all weapons. The Scrap Katana is exactly as the name says, if you remove the first "S" from the name. It has 200 durability and breaks too easily. Make an Iron Sword instead, which has the same DPS but 300 durability and is part of the same easy crafting tier. Alternatively, Iron Machete has 3% less DPS and 13% less range than that sword, but has 400 durability instead.

    A quick thing to note of skills and perks
    Pack mule is actually useful due to the weight/encumberance system being Skyrim/Fallout based and there is basically no cap to the amount of crap you have in your inventory.
    Perk leveling, if I'm not wrong, is noticeably slower, but that might just be me being used to DF
    Skills aren't all milestone based. For example, the clubs skill will most likely give you 0.25% extra damage for every level in the skill. A skill that most likely IS milestone based is the missions skill, which might give you extra dukes per level, but you will have to reach the milestone to get the extra reward/reward choice.

    I'm loving Undead Legacy. Gotten up to day 29/30 here recently.
    You mentioned the cost reduction of bowstrings with tier upgrades as an example, but I think the biggest thing with upgrading the Carpenter's table is the amount of boards you get per log. I think you only get 2 per log at tier 1, but that jumps up to 6 or so at tier 2 and at tier 3 you get 10 boards per log. Seeing 2 boards per log can be disheartening, but things really do ramp up. The saw and carpenter's axe can usually be found via loot or quest (but can get unlucky of course).

      Recalled a few other things (don't recall if they were briefly mentioned or not, a lot was covered)... Buy out the jail breakers candy at vending machines since they give +75 to lock-picking (and 200% durability) and you'll need that bonus early on for safes. Be sure to check the resources tab at traders for a few resources you may need for upgrading. It's often a good place to get early bricks if you haven't found a construction site with brick pallets to harvest. And lastly, I believe (though I could be wrong) that each level you get in the action skills is contributing to a small increase. The level 20, 40, and up are sort of just telling you what you've reached thus far. You don't need to hit 20 in the action skill to suddenly get benefits from raising the skill. You can see evidence of it with weight lifting (leveled by being encumbered) giving increased carrying capacity right away.

    Just a few things from having just started playing the mod recently:
    Batons are easy to find in police vehicles. Search all of them an you should get a decent one pretty quick.
    Not only are some weapons better than others, it appears that things like knives and machetes, etc, have a shorter attack range more in line with the size of the weapon, and clubs, bats, sledges, batons, swords, etc, have a normal range, and spears seem to have an extended range
    There is a range limitation on the storage broadcasting, in all directions including up and down. Its usually helpful to build your storage in a central section, and then place your workstations in a circle around it so all of them have access to every container.
    Almost every item in the game can be picked up by holding E and taking it. Some work well for selling early game to get your Trading skill up and getting some early game money.
    The little red lanterns in POI's that show you where to go are probably the best source of light in the game, super bright, can be picked up, and toggled on and off without requiring any power source.
    Putting liquids, including honey, into plastic bottles from the campfire requires a cooking pot. Putting it in glass jars does not. The idea is that you can boil/cook the items in the jar, you can't do that with plastic, you need to boil the water in the pot first then transfer it over.
    Investing in lockpicking, as well as carrying Jailbreakers is a must. The alternative is Time Bombs, which in this mod you hold your action button on a locked item and it gives you the option to blow it with the bomb next to lockpicking, but creates a huge amount of noise.
    If you're a little over encumbered, but not in a hurry, or in danger, walk around with the extra weight as it will increase your Weight Lifting skill, which in turn increases your carry capacity naturally a little at a time.
    Selecting an inventory slot and pressing L will lock and unlock it so you don't move items out of your inventory you want to keep.

    You can go higher than S tier. There is S tier with three stars instead of one for example. There's a lot to unpack for starting tips. Nails are really obtained by harvesting couches and paintings. Best place is the diner, you'll come out with 500+ nails. Loot all boxes, adhesive is required for end game upgrading. Salvaging table Saws and cement mixers have a chance for compact engines. Don't destroy all table saws, you'll need one for t3 wood bench. Food and drink is easily obtained through looting, farming is hardly needed unless multiplayer. The best club in terms of raw damage is actually the morning star, as it benefits from both pummel Pete And the knife perk as it bleeds. However it is very perk expensive. Upgrading wood workbench is top priority as it gives more wood from logs from 3 to 10 getting you to make more wooden frames for a base.

    UL is certainly a much SLOWER progression than vanilla.
    Also, read the UL journal entries, they have really good info.
    Do not expect to build a custom horde base in the first week unless you plan to grind clay wood and stone for most of that week (clay is only like 5 per block at the beginning).
    Super Newb Tip: turn off the hordes and practice the first week a couple times to learn the mechanics and progression without the pressure. The daily wandering hordes should keep you on your toes during the day.
    Starter base should be a stone walled building with lots of room on the second floor or roof for you. Just stay quiet and let the zeds wander around at night.
    Set some boxes to not broadcast to protect those items from being consumed by accident (like for hammers and saws).
    Thanks for this video, lots of good stuff in there for beginners (like me). My current tactic is to do one quest a day from the trader and spend the rest of the day gathering resources and boxes. Now to figure out good sources where to find each resource type.

    • @MyAmazingUsername
      @MyAmazingUsername Рік тому +2

      @@DnSqrd The biggest thing TFP should copy is the GUI. The vanilla GUI looks like a temporary mockup. The Undead Legacy UI is perfect.
      Vanilla had action skills years ago but removed them because they were grindy and boring because people found weapons and could barely use them, and had to spend the same amount of real time as it would take to play an AAA game on just endlessly grinding the skills through spammable, repetitive tasks. UL has the same issue. I think some of them are cool in UL though. For example the looting skill and the loot progression is a fantastic idea. And stuff like a Cardio action skill would fit too.
      As for the other action skills, they could do a middle ground solution: Melee weapons is 1 skill, ranged is 1, explosives is 1, etc. Those are the main ones to grind and are leveled up by using any weapon of that type, and are welcome to take a long time to grind, and should give generic benefits such as stamina efficiency and extra damage ("you learn the vital spots to aim for with melee/ranged weapons") kinda thing. Then they should have simpler sub-action skills for individual weapons, which you can master in 1-2 hours of fighting, to get a further damage bonus and head shot bonus for specific weapon types. That is a system that would fit better than either UL or vanilla.

    I love the video it has been very helpful as I dive into the UL mod. I have been struggling a bit with inventory management. I've been playing with my friend and probably the most frustrating experience we have is finding a system of managing all of the loot we have obtained. I noticed this problem in Vanilla as well but, between writeable storage boxes and the storage boxes being much larger we muddled our way through it. Now in UL we have a lot more loot items and our storage containers have limited capacity. The broadcasting feature is amazing but, there is still the issue of dropping items off. If you decided to make a video on how you manage your inventory then I wouldn't complain :p.

    as someone who just played 14 hours(days) straight on solo for my first test... I'd say that the best weapon I found were the knuckles (just like vanilla) you can heavy attack like 6 times without your stamina plummeting, hell I didn't even need the books (they would have been appreciated but RNG wasn't having it). I didn't put any perks into looting or questing, and instead focused on the mining and salvaging perks, so it took me a long time to get anything of value. by day 14 I have almost everything to the highest tier, but it was a struggle. with 3x loot and xp I was still struggling to get the old books and research requirements to build things, which is insane. the biggest tip I could give is don't assume you have enough of anything. I went through iron like it was water. also might want to REALLY emphasize the importance of upgrading your gear. I leveled up my rock axe from H to F and it was more then enough.
    things i'd improve:
    make cooking necessary? I think I had to cook like twice and that was like 10 stacks of Bacon and Eggs each time. There's not enough plants or animals around to really make cooking viable. add the plants from DF and AN (solo was fine, but if there's more then one of you, you'll definitely need food)
    improve research rates. (even in multiplayer, without the 3x loot you'll be stuck with a carpenter table and a research table with nothing else all fuckin week)
    double skill points (if you are playing solo. with two or more people with shared xp I imagine this won't be a problem)

    This incredible mod is ALMOST perfect. Not easy, not simple to learn right off the bat. We can feel that Subquake didn't want to take the shortest path. It's all the opposite!
    But that said, Horde nights (Blood Moons) are still a problem for me, like in Vanilla. The hordes intensity level versus our game stage level is too unbalanced and it forces you to go mining like crazy only for those nights. So i choose to disable the Blood Moons (in Basic tab) and increase the amount of wandering hordes instead (in Expert tab).
    Wandering hordes can happen at all time, during day and night. You can set the amount of zombies to 5 with a high RNG Range like 30+ zombies, so you never know.

    Early game the knife is honestly good for the bleed stack. I play on the hardest difficulty so the dot is very helpful. I usually upgrade the deep cut or w.e gives bleed, so I can get 3 stacks and its almost like fire damage.
    its fast, it adds up, and its easy to keep the stacks on. Low stamina cost, and its just great for having dps while recovering stamina. In multiplayer thou, unless you have good ping its prolly not that great lol. Zombies in multiplayer have mega Wifi-Hands

      %AppData%\Roaming\7DaystoDie\GeneratedWorlds
      Find the world you are playing and go into that folder and then go into the spawnpoints.xml file and remove all but one spawnpoint.

      There are plans to split attributes with separate attribute points to be gained per level up in the character screen, kind of like in many different RPG games (Fallout, Diablo etc), where you get some attribute points and a perk point upon leveling up. Most likely something I will work on sometime in A21 and most likely I will go with primary and secondary attribute requirements to unlock perks.
