This is my go-to channel for my new desire to update my conservative fashion taste. Still conservative, yet, I need to update to this new century. Kind of confusing...
I love this channel. Its really helping me build my wardrobe in a timeless way. I recently went to a wedding that was "cocktail attire" and your videos really helped me.
I recently puchased 3 pairs of To Boot New York in double monk strap, Cognac, Bordeaux, and Black. I love them. Yes I have several oxfords and derbys as well. Thank you for all the great videos.
I have 2 pairs of single monkstraps, they're very versatile and work well with a suit or casual wear. The placement of the strap (depends on the shoe) results in a very smooth look.
Thank you for the tips Mr Schneider. I feel more gentlemanly already! Now all I need is a budget to accommodate for all this excellent footwear I want to buy...
Left one buckle of my double monkstraps unbuckled in our outdoor shopping mall as suggested. Interesting feeling (but not unpleasant) with my shoe slipping with the buckle undone. Didn't believe anyone noticed. Was surprised when a very sweet lady asked me if my buckle had broken. Told her maybe since it came unbuckled by itself. (just to see what she said) She actually offered to fasten the buckle for me !! Amazing. She fastened it and I thanked her and said now my shoe felt more secure. She even walked with me a little ways to make certain it stayed fastened. When parting, she said she hoped I didn't have any more trouble. Quite an adventure.
FANTASTIC, I love when you have a link to what you wear on the video. Great way to induce a sell in my opinion! Seeing apparel live always does it for me. Thanks!
Great video Sven, I love monk straps. They look great with a jacket, or a nice shirt and jeans. I also love learning new things, which I usually do from your videos, Balmoral and Jodhpur boots.....never heard of them before. Now I have research to do. Thanks again!
I wear black triple monks with torn jeans and flannel shirts. Keep the sides mostly unzipped and the top buckle undone. They make great grunge boots, especially if you scuff them up a bit.
Recently bought a pair of Herring Luscombe in Mahogany. They're fantastic shoes. Wouldn't wear them in an office environment on a daily basis but good for casual Fridays and general smart casual attire.
I second the recommendation to get dark brown or burgundy first. My black monk straps and tan monk straps could only be worn with certain combinations. Never been a fan of the elastic at the buckle. Great channel.
Thank you. Great video. I'm going to get chestnut pebble/grain leather double monk strap shoes. so good. Great for smart casual and business casual etc.
i would have to disagree about the wear ability being business casual and not formal. I think the Monk and double monk are so versatile. i wear my single monks with my 3 piece suits. To me it looks fantastic and classy. again my opinion.
Karter Estill Good. I have a hard time tying laces, so wear loafers, then found Gentlemen's Gazette and realized my mistake wearing it with a double breasted suit (from my Opa). Being you say okay to pair monks with double breasted, gives an answer to an option, thank you.
I have a pair of brown Belvedere Double monk strap calf leather with ostrich leg toe cap. Very fancy shoes. I dont polish the leather as much as the toe cap so that the toe cap shines really good with the calf leather semi matted it gives its it s realle nice contrast and the toe cap stands out. Inuse Saphir Reptan on the cap and Renovateur on the calf leather to keep it soft.
+Gentleman's Gazette thanks for replying dude... I live far away in a third world country and you along with alpha m and rmrs have inspired me to dress better and invest in quality. Especially you who are much more of a fashion snob than the other two. You are like my high end reference point.
I got an older pair of Ferragamo single monk straps in sort of a dark smokey teal grey color. They look good with a grey suit. I really like them. Browns are good, but these look really classy and vintage like. I feel like they would go well with a newsboy cap look.
It's two years later, but yup, double for the win! I'm in love with double monk shoes then when I see single... My mood goes from 100 to 0 immediately. lol
Mark Pearson glad youre able to make 'em work! I ended up just hitting the reset button, sending them back, and starting over. I'll get it right this time lol
Hello. I recently acquired my first pair of monkstraps and I love them! My question is about unbuckling them. If I unbuckle and buckle every time, I'm afraid the strap will wear out over time like a belt and it isn't easy to replace (the whole shoe would be ruined). What do you recommend? Should I keep it buckled and try to slip it on like a loafer or get used to the idea that it will wear out and I won't be able to keep them for life even with great care? Thank you for your awesome channel.
You MUST always unbuckle when getting in and out of your shoes. There is simply no space for the foot comfortably slide in. At least on the pairs that I own... If you are worried about damaging the strap, you should make sure that you keep that area specially hydrated since it will prevent from cracks or a possible rip. Products like dubbin and mink oil will keep the leather flexible enough to handle everyday use and, therefore, prevent the straps from excessive damage.
Keep conditioning it with leather conditioner every so often. This will help belts too. Leather is durable material, that's why they used it so long in the past, but drying out is it's greatest weakness.
I really like your channel, mr Schneider, i am about to graduate as medical doctor. Can you make a video about a doctor's attire, but focused more on men my age of around 25-35 years old.
I was thinking of buying AE Oxblood Single Monk Shoes...I did not see anything in burgundy, but is Oxblood too much or in the right color range you specified..These are first Monks,
Another great video and very informative! I have several monk strap shoes but I'm looking for a dark brown one. What brand was the one in your video? Thanks
Really, the timing couldn't be more perfect! Tomorrow I'm going to buy new shoes and I'm still undecided whether to buy light brown full brogue oxfords or a pair of double monks. What would you recommend as it my second pair of dress shoes after a pair of formal black ones?
Thank you for your opinion! I watched the video and remembered that I also have a pair of suede wingtip derbys. So I want to extend the basics. And as I'm not wearing a suit all the time I actually think that the double monks are more versatile for me. I'm just fearing that the double monks are fashionable and will look odd in a few years time.
@Mandeep Baweja For the oxfords oxblood is definitely an option but I think I prefer something with a little less red. @Regan Donohue Frankly, with classic menswear it's just like with every other fashion: thinks come and go. For example things that lived a revival the last couple of years are: knit ties, skinny lapels, collar bars and also loafers. And single monks currently just look a bit old fashioned. Again, just as in every style there are evergreens, black cap toe oxfords for example. You just don't like monks what's completely fine. I, generally speaking, just don't like loafer although I think that they're currently fashionable. The thing is, I like double monks now but I am allowed to change my mind, right? Especially as I just do not have the budget to buy high quality shoes every other day I think I'd rather play it safe and buy the oxfords. If I'm mistaken and double monks are here to stay I still have plenty of time to buy some :) On the other hand, in the unlikelihood I'll find a relatively "cheap" pair of double monks which do look great, fit and are of acceptable quality I'll get them. I am happy to discuss your opinions though! :)
+Regan Donohue There are many vintage looks that look great again like the Ivy League Look. But I'm making the safe bet today and buy the brogues. Thanks for the serious discussion we had! You don't see this often in UA-cam comments :)
I’m looking at a pair of double monk strap without the toe cap and not sure how old they are. So my question is are the cap toe double monk strap more a current style over the non cap toe version?
How much of an issue is wear and tear on the straps from fastening and unfastening each time you wear these shoes ? I bought my first pair of double monkstraps in a navy blue. I love them with a nice tidy pair of jeans and shirt, and sport jacket if needed.
The best ones are Goodyear welted or hand welted if you go bespoke, I have a pair of dark brown double monk Lobb ‘Williams’ which are very versatile and comfortable and I wear them at least once a week, they are the shoes I wear most in casual situations.
I'm late to the party, but with a double monk strap, is it ok and/advisable to mirror shine (or attempt to) the part that straps over? It doesn't crease because of where it sits and it's a nice flat smooth surface. I just don't know how it'll look.
Can you explain why this type of shoe would not look good with a 3P suit? I wear my black monk strap shoes with my navy 3P suit as well as a navy double breasted suit and I swear I look elegant. The sole & heel are more formal so it's a dress shoe. Why would you say that it only works best with Grey or charcoal?
This channel is amazing! I'm on a marathon lol. So far watched 3 videos. I just learned about a shoe horn. I never knew that existed. Thank you!
Glad you loved them and you're welcome! Stay tuned for more ;)
This is my go-to channel for my new desire to update my conservative fashion taste. Still conservative, yet, I need to update to this new century. Kind of confusing...
double monk strap is my favourite right now. thank you for this video.
I love this channel. Its really helping me build my wardrobe in a timeless way. I recently went to a wedding that was "cocktail attire" and your videos really helped me.
Thank you for your video. I agree with you on the point that having 2 straps makes adjustments to the comfort of the foot a lot easier!
Thank you sven Schneider for opening my eyes for different shoe styles I found a set of double monk strap shoes in dark coffee brown.
TBH, I taught double monk straps are hideous asf. But, I realized they're beautifully versatile. Thanks for the guide!
love the double monk strap look
I requested this video about a year ago and now the complete video guide is here which is the best!!!
I recently puchased 3 pairs of To Boot New York in double monk strap, Cognac, Bordeaux, and Black. I love them. Yes I have several oxfords and derbys as well. Thank you for all the great videos.
You're welcome!
I got my To Boot New York black double monk strap about a year ago as well; they always get compliments! 😊
Quadruple Monk is the only way to go
Quintuple Monk*
Austin Kim Ferragamo actually makes quadruple monk strap shoes. They’re like 3k
I do infinite straps
@@d_15745 Good luck getting that thing off
LA Gear did a Michael Jackson black leather boot with loads of buckles. Just sayin...
I have 2 pairs of single monkstraps, they're very versatile and work well with a suit or casual wear. The placement of the strap (depends on the shoe) results in a very smooth look.

Great video Sven, I love monk straps. They look great with a jacket, or a nice shirt and jeans. I also love learning new things, which I usually do from your videos, Balmoral and Jodhpur boots.....never heard of them before. Now I have research to do. Thanks again!

Your enthusiasm really shows! :)

Great information on this shoe style. Been wanting a pair for some time now.
Thanks for the guide
I really enjoyed this video

This is the first video of yours i've seen, and I was forced to subscribe because of the classy smile at the end of each sentence!
Love a solid pair of tan calfskin double monks. They are a necessity for the gentlemen in my opinion
Thank´s very much for your tips. You are the state of the art, the absolutely true.
I have a pair of Guidomaggi double strap monks in suede. Definitely taking notes.
Great video! I've been looking for a pair of monks recently, came just in time thank you!
You're welcome. Glad to have helped.

Hey, great video! Could you do a video on Burgundy dress shoes and what to wear them with?
I got an older pair of Ferragamo single monk straps in sort of a dark smokey teal grey color. They look good with a grey suit. I really like them. Browns are good, but these look really classy and vintage like. I feel like they would go well with a newsboy cap look.

About to buy soon, dark brown suede pair of Loake Cannon 🤷♂️
double monk > single monk
I prefer single over double but they're both nice.
I agree, the single monk makes you look old
It's two years later, but yup, double for the win! I'm in love with double monk shoes then when I see single... My mood goes from 100 to 0 immediately. lol

@@yasseressa1696 being old means you have knowledge lol
Aaaand of course I would buy my FIRST pair of double strap monks for a decent price in BLACK, AFTER I watched this awesome vid 🤦🏾♂️
Acid Raindrops just did the same! Brown shoes look better in every style in my opinion. Still really enjoy them though!
Mark Pearson glad youre able to make 'em work! I ended up just hitting the reset button, sending them back, and starting over. I'll get it right this time lol
A phenomenal video as usual, Sven! I've been a longtime fan of the Gentleman's Gazette and have yet to disappointed by your content!
Raphael can you please make a video about you showing and wearing your suits coats and blazers etc.

Single monk goes wit double nuns 🙏
Great video as always
I usually get a 15 2e for my shoe size ... for the double monkstrap would 15D be the same size ...

I think the single straps look much better.
I already have a Black Single monk-strap should i invest in a Brown Double monk-strap.
Kaiser... YES. Go British TAN if you can.

What if I wear a lot of grey and black shirts and slacks? I'm thinking black monks is the manly thing to do instead of brown or Ron Burgundy????
Another great video and very informative! I have several monk strap shoes but I'm looking for a dark brown one. What brand was the one in your video? Thanks
I’d argue against the point of staying away from wearing monk straps with three piece suits and formal wear

i wonder whether it is monk strap shoes is less formal than derby?
great vid and advice! i dont suppose u have one on alligator/ snake skin shoes?
So if I'm wearing a charcoal 3 piece suit, would a brown single monk strap work?
Nah, a quadruple monk strap.
I have a pair of dark brown suede leather single monk strap dress shoes brand JP Pierre
