yes, but there has been a turn away from that in the last decade. I feel in the early 2000's this whole casual is cool had taken over the decade. Now it's gone more toward over dressing for casual occasions. As a professional socialite, I have seen the difference over the last 10 years.

I think it's great that you bring up different categories of men who (might) wear suits, and not just those who do so often or regularly. Over here in Sweden the vast majority of men, myself included, hardly ever wear a suit. Weddings and funerals, and that's pretty much it, unfortunately. Your advice is helpful!

The very first suit I bought when I was 20 was a decent quality grey pin stripped suit. And although the suit looked SHARP. I have a grey pinstripe, a tan, and a forest green or teal if you will. I love playing around with my suits with either ties, shirt patterns, and pocket squares! The suit i recently purchased but still have not received, is a navy pinstripe double breasted suit with peak lapels and im super excited for it. • @pip5528
    @pip5528 3 роки тому +10

I would say at least 1 for most people including myself. I would probably have maybe 2-4. I am also a mixture of archetypes 1 and 4. I love suits but unfortunately have not had the budget or opportunity for a decent quality suit until fairly recently. I am planning to get my first 1 or 2 suits very soon. As a teenager I had a separate black jacket that wasn't altered and later an oversized black pinstripe jacket that also wasn't altered but I don't wear either because I outgrew the old jacket and the new one is still too big and even altering wouldn't be enough. Surprisingly I still received compliments from people who either mistakenly called it a suit or thought I was dashing despite the ill fit or not being a true suit. In that case I would be a mixture of 2 and 4 since I would only wear a suit once a week for church, possibly a bit more depending on if I'm going to an interview or some other event or if I just feel like it. I do prefer double-breasted but owning single-breasted as well will maximize the versatility factor.

I always got them on sale. I never paid more than $250 for a suit. However if you are in a customer facing position where you call on clients, up this number to perhaps 10.

One, dark navy blue. Single breasted. You can use it for weddings, funerals, etc., paired with semi-brogues and a black tie, it'll get you through most situations. I, personally, have a black and a white shirt, cos the rules are a bit different here in Asia. But the Farang turning up at a funeral wearing traditional mourning dress earns a few kudos points. In these very extended asian mourning procedures I tend to go for the black shirt.

I have 3 suits. A black 3 piece, a navy with a light pattern and a light gray with black in a tweedy fabric. I like to pair this suit with a black vest sometimes. That goes along with a half dozen blazers in different fabrics and patterns. Thing is I get a lot of wear in the cooler months with my blazers (I live in New York City) but as far as my suits go I might wear one maybe 2-3 times a year. I would love to get a 3 piece double breasted in a dark charcoal tweed but it will almost never get worn.

My only issue with the suit is the idea that double-breasted is “more formal”. I don’t know that to be the case and I am broad enough that I always opt for single-breasted suit. That quibble aside, this is a great video.

Nice video, really in depth and informative. My present work environment doesn't require a suit but I keep four or five because of weddings, funerals, nice dinners and because I do like the opportunities to wear a suit. For most other occasions, I've more than a dozen sport coats, a couple of blazers, some vests that can be mixed with various pants to fit most situations. I agree with you that the black suit is overrated, as a young man I thought that was the epitome of men's suits, but I haven't worn one in decades.

I'm kinda coming at the from the casual direction. I basically never "need" to wear a suit, so I've started on the casual side of things and have my one navy suit for really formal occasions. I think a medium brown and gray flannel might be next on my list... but I might actually try for some colorful sport coats first instead.
My overall favorite coat to wear so far is my Harris Tweed that I found second hand. ❤
From a casual perspective my question is, what do people do when your suit pants wear out? I'm riding my bike to get around town etc so I wear out pants pretty quickly. How do people deal with that while wearing suits? My solution so far is to wear a lot of chinos or contrasting separate dress pants so it's easier to replace... and only wear the full suit on special occasions. 🤔

Even though he makes it a point to discuss suit longevity and care in his videos I doubt that there are many years where he does not buy a suit even though he does not really need one or has many like-kind suits in that category. Cheers!

I have 2 navy suits - one 3 button & 2 button single breasted, 1 black 3 button suit, 1 burgandy 2 button suit, 2 tan/beige - light colored 2 button suits for spring/summer and 4 gray suits from medium and dark gray glen check to solid charcoal 2 button single breasted. Total of 10 suits is really all I need, with hundreds of shirts and 80 pairs of pants/slacks/jeans and over 50 pairs of shoes/boots from calf, suede to exotic lizard, eel, crocodile and alligator. I have always loved to dress sharp.

Nice video. I like your channel. I'm definitely in the fourth group. I wear suits at least five days a week. I have about thirty suits and 6 sport coats.
I don't always agree with some of your style tips. I think a black suit can be very good and essential piece in a man's wardrobe. It would not be my first suit but would be in my top 5. There is nothing more elegant then a black suit especially for an evening or daytime formal event. If it is accessorized correctly with the right tie and pocket square you can look like the most powerful man in the room. You don't have to look like you are a gangster, or attending a funeral.
Also I think your pants cuffs seem a bit wide to me. Mine are between 1.25 and 1.5 inches.
It seems to me that I would put a bit more of a break in the trousers. Sometimes it seems that your pants don't come down to your shoes. Lastly I would not do cuffs if you have a flat front on your trousers. I only put them on my pants that have some kind of pleat. To me it kills the silhouette if there are cuffs on the flat front.
Again these are personal style choices. They are not hard and fast rules. You look very smart!
I would like to add that when you get to level 2 or 3 you should consider custom made to measure dress shirts. I promise you that you will never go back to of the rack shirts again. They fit like a glove and you can really add your own style touches to it so it's like no other shirt out there.
Congratulations on the success of your channel.
    Best Regards,
    J.A.

I LOVE suit's but do not get a chance to wear them more than 3 or 4 times a year. My suit isn't really a suit. I wear blazers with blue jeans really. Blue blazer with blue jeans, black blazer with black jeans etc. I find the jeans with the blazer more comfortable. But to most people these day's seeing me in a blazer, tie and blue jeans they think mistakenly I am in a true suit ! LOL. I have mostly single breasted blazers and a few double breasted jacket's ! Long live men looking nice and NOT sloppy I say. After watching this video I will probably go out and get a navy double breasted suit ! Thank's for the upload.

I’m in between sometimes and always, and I never have black tie situation. Therefore I owned 8 suits, 4 charcoal grey with one of them being herringbone and another one in double breasted; 3 navy, one in pinstripes and a dark brown suit. I live in tropical area, therefore one double breasted suit is enough

I guess I'm the 2nd one. Its difficult for me as I'm trying to become more minimalist, overheat easy, but still want to dress well. What I'd like is two casual suits and a formal suit with 7-10 shirts and vests I can mix and match. My goal is to be able to dress in at least a shirt and vest every day for around the house or doing errands and to put on a coat when I go out with my wife or family. Is that possible, to mix and match materials and colors of vests and shirts with the same suits?

oh, im 16 as well! ive got quite a few suits, but this is only since im a bumpkin-cheapscate who happens to have a nearby second-hand shop that also happens to have a lot of suits. sadly, i dont get much use out of them, as they are very cheap and only few of them suit me really well. but gosh do i love dressing up. i never used to, but i suppose i never thought an alien from venus could wear suits. strangely enough, suits fit me quite well, despite my bazingas.

Interesting.. I'm on the way from 1-st category to the 4-th. My workspace is casual, I almost never wear suits in my everyday life, but... watchin your channel I started to like them and now I wanna wear them every day. But I'm afraid to be overdressed so... I need to find some events where I can dress up without looking like cosplayer.
