A beautiful piece of modelling! I've always thought though that for a self destruct system, this was almost useless! OK half the dish was destroyed but if the Enterprise had been in a deep space battle the Klingons would have had an entirely intact engine and secondary hull to tow back for examination! It was burning up in Genesis' atmosphere that destroyed the ship not the self destruct! Very well done though!
Apparently there are different options for the self destruct system. They can either cause a warp core detonation or the ship can detonate explosive charges destroying key systems such as the bridge for use near a planet. They chose the least destructive method as they didn't want to screw the planet too much. The long 000 destruct 0 code etc.
Indeed. Mostly a plot device. It needed to look spectacular and be intact enough to burn up in the atmosphere for Kirk's time of reflection. The scene might have been more impactful if it were not spoiled in the trailers. Maybe it even could have been one of the great unexpected and dramatic plot twists of Sci-Fi Cinema for the ages. Lost opportunity. Great work.
If you think something goes w. Just stop. Your just making things worst. Should just painted lightly, then slowly build up the paint in certain places. Another thing. Relax. Don’t rush, if you do rush, it will show badly.
Excellent use of materials that were at hand. Very creative.
Thank you.

You know, I’ve always thought the same thing. The self destruct destroyed the bridge and half the primary hull but little else.

@@kennethwood4501 Thank you very much.
I love your channel, Jerry. Thanks for this tutorial. I’m giving it a try this summer.
Thank you very much. I really appreciate your kind words. Best of luck with your build! =-)
@@TrekFanNCC-1701 Thank you!
Looking great...Awesome job!
Thank you very much. =-)
Amazing work my love.
Thank you honey. =-)
Look like the self destruct was in the saucer section. The rest of the ship was intact when she fell to the Genesis planet and burn up in atmosphere
