Thank you so much for your in-depth videos! Your videos are so comprehensive and approachable that you've given me the confidence to try my hand at model-building for the first time since a disastrous first attempt when I was a young child! As someone that is entirely new to this, I especially appreciate your attention to detail and willingness to explain your choices and methods, it is like a private lesson and tutorial. I recently completed my own USS Voyager and considering it is my first model, I am very pleased with it. Your videos certainly helped me to tackle this project (if I had done this entirely on my own, I imagine it would have looked like a real mess!). Thank you so much, and I can't wait to dive into some more models!
Yeah this was the "clear" edition which was labelled on the plasic wrapping. I forgot to mention it, mainly because it didn't make much difference in the end.
Love this! This is my first time watching. Been wanting to get a kit like this. Out of all the trek 1:1000 scale kits, which do you think is the easiest for a beginner? Would the Defiant be better because it's smaller?
It would be interesting to see how this looks compared to the 1/1000 Space Battleship Yamato 2199 kits (you built the Andromeda from that series a couple of years back).... you probably already know that Bandai has released pretty much all the ships from the anime that are still sensible in 1/1000 (i.e. not the big villain endboss ships, but all the cruisers and destroyers and whatnot), and some of the smaller ones would make for nice quick builds. :)
Thats the thing thats annoyed me about the lockdowns: I still worked and increased hours covering furloughed staff. Still am to a degree. It means I didn't have time to indulge my hobbies, model making included, while everyone around me got to do projects, hobbies and so forth. The results of the last 20 months have affected people differently in a multitude of ways. I miss my hobbies.
@@apandanamedleo2123 The best thing to do would probably look for beginners kits that are simple snap together kits. Just read the box before you buy the kit it should say snap together. I used to build a lot of the Star Trek models about 20 years ago and it really was a lot of fun but Christ in heaven the cost now is outrageous. 3 times or more than what I paid for them. I mean I know it was a long time ago but come on. its still the same mold. Anyone know why this is? Seems to be across the board on all of the good detailed plastic models. I often thought it was because no one builds them anymore. Too busy with their faces in their iphones
Well I'm guessing the increase in price comes down to: - Inflation - New molds, research and development - Maintaining old molds - Including far more high quality decals than we used to get - The smaller market for the old style Star Trek kits. I mean I think it's awesome they've released a brand new kit for a show that's almost 30 years old, and was no where near as successful as TNG.
Good work! That's a very nice build. And thanks for the info on decal placement. 👍 That will come in very handy if I ever get my hands on one of those kits. 😁
Beautiful job with this kit. It's a kit I will be building in 2023. Appreciate this video with all of the good info you've provided. Its better looking than the old Monogram model. I did lots of modifications to that one back in the day adding missing details. Also liked the copper you painted on the warp nacelles. You don't see many paint them in the off mode.
Thanks! Looking forward to seeing your build of it. I think there's lots of room for everyone to put their own spin on this kit. If I did it again I'd probably so it slightly different, but still really happy with how it came out, looks great on the shelf. 🙂
looks great! hoping to start on some Trek models soon, I was going to go with the bigger revell kit for voyager but I might go with this instead. Can I ask what needle size and pressure you use for spraying the Vallejo paint?
Just started working on this kit (the non-clear version) and it has been nothing short of enjoyment! Still debating whether to use the landing legs for a diorama or keep it "in flight."
Hi. Awesome job! I'm using it as a guide to paint my Voyager. What is the dark grey paint you use to paint the diamond shaped part on the front. (15m50s). Says Revell 374 but I can't buy Revell 374 in NZ, Vallejo equivalent I bought is too light. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
What color was used on the sensor platform on the top front of the saucer? Also there are 2 other colors on the RCS Thrusters beside the Rust orange, can you tell me what those are as well? I love your build videos and have learned so much from you.

I see the decal film and that should not be show if you used a flat over spray on them. It is sad that you did not know this technique that appeared in fine scale modeler in the mid 1990's. Even Les Stunt did not have decal film on his airplanes. It takes away from a great model to make it only some what great.
If I had your time, I would have taken fiber optics and made the windows with lights, the propulsion nacelles and the bridge shine. Maybe do that in the next video ;) good build your model :)
Nice model really. People, I don't know, did you notice that the windows on the seventh deck next to the phaser bank should be set lower??? And the 12 deck should be more pronounced. The lower part of the ship should be more massive because it is the bearing part of the ship. I noticed another flaw on all the models: A torpedo launcher on deck 10 should be located on an 11-deck. For example, if you shoot from a torpedo on the 10th deck, wouldn't the torpedo hit the front of the 9th deck ???
I do have several kits to build, the Disco Enterprise, Romulan Warbird, another couple of 1/1000 Constitutions, but nothing on the bench at the moment.
@@modelchili I am currently studying your video on the USS Voyager and I think next in line the Carl Sagan mods you did for the Reliant as well. It would also be nice to see you do a lit and powered up version of Voyager
Wow, I didn't realize the Defiant was so large until I saw it next to the other ships at the end. I literally held my breath as you cut into the name registry decal to help the decal solution soften them into the contours of the panel lines more. Excellent work.
It really feels like the Defiant should be smaller. I've seen a few references to it being 120m long whereas this model is based on it being 170m long. And it's hard to get an accurate number by watching the show because the size of DS9 is not really set in stone either.
Hello Model chili scale models that's amazing so cool this starship voyager. Nice work on a federation starship. I like this USS voyager model. 💔💘❤️⭐🌟🌠✨💟
What a phenomenal build and guide! Just discovered your work and I’m looking forward to working on my Voyager kit. Plus, it’s just so relaxing watching your videos!
Chili, Please Help Me!!! Awesome work. I always love watching your painting and weathering techniques. What is your Airbrush setup (airbrush and compressor)? I want to get into airbrushing but there are so many options and I don't want to break the bank buying it. Thanks.
Is there any where to get these premade? I have Shakey hands and wouldn't be able to paint the models but I really want to get them for my favorite ships
It looks good, but painting over the windows... I feel it is a missed opportunity. With the current tech we have you could have put a white led inside the kit that you can turn on to have all the windows lit up
I am very glad that you noticed the fairing differences in the back section of the saucer. The CGI's oddly curving upwards of the physical lines there, never sat right with me. Always figured it was a lazy, or rushed, more likely, piece of 3D modeling. The additional changes to the front of the warp coils, perhaps, was a nicer "evolution", as they begin curving inward at the front of the nacelle on the CGI model. Ended up sort of liking that. Your painting detail to match the shooting model photos, I think, is a much nicer, added touch. The physical model had so much going for it, that it was almost a shame that the CGI version was introduced so early in the show's production. But, advances in technology and the need to conserve money in a production environment dictate the adoption of a cheaper, if not perfected, means of representing the ship as early as possible.
Thanks, I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed! Yeah the filming model was a beauty, it's a shame they used the CGI version so much, but I supposed it allowed many more shots that might not have been possible otherwise.
Fantastic job sir, very well done. I built the original Voyager model back in the 90's (it was quite large) and I'm getting back into the hobby. Your video was extremely well done and I'll be checking out your channel for hints and tips and techniques as I do my builds. Much appreciated!
Great video, and fantastic work on the model. It's a shame you ran into those problems with the window decals...it seems Polar Lights is still having trouble in this respect; at least they've seemingly solved the "dissolving decals" problems they were plagued with a few years ago.
Thank you! Yeah it definitely pays to double check each decal placement before you start, especially with Polar Lights. I've had issues on other kits that require decal placement before you put parts together.
Didn't think I'd appreciate a studio model as opposed to screen versions - but that is brilliant! The idea of having a side by side with a fully screen lit version is great.
I like watching the sprew cutting and assembly process. I LOVE the building part the most out of model building, not really a fan of painting it afterwards though lol.
I started out watching you build Star Wars figures now watching you build different star ships and more realistic ships like the air craft carrier is very inspiring. Not to mention fun to watch. I'd love to see what you can do with the new mandalorian model kits. Like the Razor Crest .

It really feels like the Defiant should be smaller. I've seen a few references to it being 120m long whereas this model is based on it being 170m long. And it's hard to get an accurate number by watching the show because the size of DS9 is not really set in stone either.
Another excellent build. Well done Chili. I love the long builds.
Thank you! That's great to hear, I enjoy making them too. 😀
Hello Model chili scale models that's amazing so cool this starship voyager. Nice work on a federation starship. I like this USS voyager model. 💔💘❤️⭐🌟🌠✨💟
Thanks!
Isn't the shuttle under the saucer section the Captain's Yacht? It all looks very good the detail is superb.
This model gives me so many great memories of my build..
Wonderful paint job.
Thank you so much 😀
What a phenomenal build and guide! Just discovered your work and I’m looking forward to working on my Voyager kit.
Plus, it’s just so relaxing watching your videos!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice job and light up the next one. I need a 350 scale. Stacking tso ent, refit, nx1, klingon.
Chili, Please Help Me!!! Awesome work. I always love watching your painting and weathering techniques. What is your Airbrush setup (airbrush and compressor)? I want to get into airbrushing but there are so many options and I don't want to break the bank buying it. Thanks.
Thanks! I use this compressor: www.acornmodels.co.nz/products/tools-.-accessories/compressors/79518/ and an Iwata Revolution HP-M1 airbrush.
Nice job friend ;) can't say much to the plactic color from the maker, but you did good 😅
Is there any where to get these premade? I have Shakey hands and wouldn't be able to paint the models but I really want to get them for my favorite ships
Would love to know which shades of gray you used for the hull. In fact all the colors you used.
Why build a translucent kit and NOT light it?
I just watched this whole damned thing and now I have to go to work when all I want to do is to climb into bed. THANKS!!!!! And... good job!!!!
lol thank you!
The outer box says it has 58 parts, but inside the box it only contains 42 parts for the kit itself.
Quality build sir,
I thought voyager was duck egg blue in colour.
It looks good, but painting over the windows... I feel it is a missed opportunity. With the current tech we have you could have put a white led inside the kit that you can turn on to have all the windows lit up
kool
If in doubt i tend to at least try to replicate how the ship looks on screen as that to my mind is the "real" ship.
Nice Work! I love The 1/1000 Scale ! I recommend using A 0.5 Mechanical Pencil led To add depth To the Lines on the deck plates .
Thanks!
Wow, great work.
Now cut it open, put holes in a few windows, put a light in it so it glows from several spots. That would surely look cool.
Cheers!
Fantastic job sir, very well done. I built the original Voyager model back in the 90's (it was quite large) and I'm getting back into the hobby. Your video was extremely well done and I'll be checking out your channel for hints and tips and techniques as I do my builds. Much appreciated!
Thank you! I hope my videos are helpful!
I so wish I could afford to get back into model building! ~sigh
I can see many people watching this video as prime refernece for this build for the future. Really great!
Thank you!
Cheers!
I always loved Voyagers design, she’s a beut.
Thank you for your techniques. I'm going to use your techniques most definitely. You are a true artist.
Thank you! I hope it goes well. 😀
Voyager and the NX Enterprise were always the sexiest ships
I like watching the sprew cutting and assembly process. I LOVE the building part the most out of model building, not really a fan of painting it afterwards though lol.
Heh I think I'm the opposite. Building is good, but I really enjoy the painting and decaling.
Great work! Your detail work with the fine-tip paint brush is particularly nice.
Thank you so much 😀
I started out watching you build Star Wars figures now watching you build different star ships and more realistic ships like the air craft carrier is very inspiring. Not to mention fun to watch. I'd love to see what you can do with the new mandalorian model kits. Like the Razor Crest .
Thanks! I'm glad you're enjoying them. 😊 Yeah I'd love to do the Mando kits, if only I could find one online!
I would llike to see a model with working lights, that would be cool.
Very enjoyable build. Thanks so much for sharing your process!
Cheers!
I love how you've noticed details that most people just don't! Fantastic job mate 🙏😊👍
Cheers!
