  • This video is about how to fix a stuck 2nd valve when the problem was caused by the 2nd slide being pushed into the casing and causing the casing to be out of round.
    Here is the link to several videos that I have in the play list "How To Repair Stuck Piston Valves"

    You sir just saved the Veterans Day Parade tomorrow. Had one Trumpet 1 not able to go due to Cross Country and my other Trumpet 1 student is very sick and probably won't make it tomorrow. Band Director here needs to step in as trumpet 1 solo with his old beginner trumpet from when he was 9
    Cleaned it thoroughly, greased it, oiled it to find the 2nd valve was stuck in the down position. Within seconds, got it to work normally following your directions. Stepping up to show the MSHS band leadership. Wish me luck....lol...and thanks!

    Every video has something really fascinating in it! Even the "simplest" repair.

    Thank you. I have been having trouble with my 2nd valve for several months and getting frustrated. Have tried what you said to do and it is better. My trumpet is a King Liberty that is about 55-56 yrs. old. It was made before White sold the company. It has always been easy to play until I began to have 2nd valve problems.

    This task is tedious but it is worth learning how to, the best thing to do is not to lend your trumpet to anybody.

    I am using Binak Pro oil that only needs a couple of spots and lasts a couple of months. What do you think of it? The postage to the UK from the USA costs as much as the oil plus the instrument has to be clean before using it because it doesn't mix with other oils.

      I do not know much about that one. Most oil works well, but just do not mix synthetic and natural oils. Sorry I can not be more helpful.

    Dear Sir, what does it mean (stop nut in the first slide valve) or (non stop nut in the first slide valve)? Thank you very much for your time.

    • @TheBrassandWoodwindShop
      @TheBrassandWoodwindShop  2 роки тому

      A stop nut is a screw that keeps a slide from falling out. If you want to remove the slide, you can remove the nut and then the slide can come out.

    What if all the buttons are stuck in the up position and all of the sliding thingies are stuck and you haven’t cleaned or played it in 5 years?

      Hello Callie,
      You can attempt to fix it yourself, but it might be a better idea to take it to your local music store. You can do some damage if you are not careful.
      I hope this helps.

      @@TheBrassandWoodwindShop Oh an actual reply? 😍 Yes I’m going to take it to a music store later this week. I don’t have any oil or anything to really do anything, but thanks!

    I have found that about 7/10 of stuck valves are from students who don't practice and haven't learned how to properly clean their instrument. You would be surprised how many kids have never been taught how their instrument works or how to clean and maintain it. If they are willing to sit still for a quick cleaning lesson I will most times wave the fee. I'd rather lose a few bucks then have them bringing it back every month or so. I hate cleaning yucky student trumpets. Thank God for sterilizer and rubber gloves.
