I appreciate the fact that we do get an answer about where the real Tyr was......But at the same time it feels so....lackluster? I don't know. I would have expected a little more from him. At most, once you free him you tell him Odin's dead and he's like, "oh....I will have to think about this" and he says a few sentences when you find him in a few realms. But that's it. All that happens is that you free him, and he occasionally visits places with a tiny bit of dialogue. It's not like I need him to be majorly story significant either because I know that he's only post-game and its mainly to answer a question on his whereabouts.... I just kind of feel bad because of his genuine significance as a character. He genuinely seems so fascinating, and I feel sad that we mostly saw him "in person" when it was Odin playing tricks.
Yeah i agree, I wish there would be an extended scene in Sindris house where you talk to him about everything, about who Kratos is and what happened with Ragnarök.
Yeah, finding the real Tyr should've been way more cinematic and monumental and way more convoluted, make it similar to the Valkyrie quest from the first game; but this time you have to fight a dozen Midgard dragons to collect pieces of a key to open his prison or something. I know GOW doesn't do DLCs, but if they did it should've been reserved for that. Freeing him should've been similar to when you free Freya and got attacked by Nighogg, just when you have the completed key and about to free Tyr, you get ambushed by a really powerful boss, then you free Tyr midfight and he asks you to step down and to borrow Draupnir as he slays the boss all by himself. To really show the us that real Tyr is not a hopeless coward, he's the fucking Norse God of War.
I like the real Tyr much better than the fake. Even before I found out about the plot twist I always felt like there's something wrong with Tyr, how he acted so cowardly and tried to oppose starting Ragnarok despite knowing that it's inevitable. Once he revealed himself as Odin it all started to make sense. The real Tyr would hate Ragnarok to happen but prepare for it anyway
Well if he learned that Asgard was the only realm that falls he would want Justice for his imprisonment he may know that Ragnarok inevitable but he’s smart enough to know that Odin a threat I bet he would of had a good laugh knowing that Brok and Sindri took back draupnir or he wouldn’t care but he would be impressed by the draupnir spear and admires the Huldra brothers craftsman ship
Fun fact: when you rescue fake “Tyr” whenever he talks, he’s missing accent mark above the y when subtitles are enabled, while everyone else has it in the subtitles when they mention Tyr. Real Tyr, this one, has the mark above the Y. A clever way to hint the plot twist
This is a really interesting dichotomy. Odin applied what he thought of Tyr to his illusion without knowing that he hadn't broken him. He thought he was supreme, and it undid him. Tremendous.
As much as I love this games story, it feels kinda disappointing that the real tyr never played a central role in the story since it was really Odin in disguise. The trailers implied he would play an important part yet he was just a post game side character:(
Well they’re not gonna spoil integral parts of the story in the trailers. If Tyr was meant to be a bigger part of the story and they had him in the trailer, he most likely would’ve been a casualty
SPOILER: I think Kratos is meant to be Tyr, you can see a god of war leads the charge on Asgard and Kratos at the end becomes one of wanting peace and not to kill just because he can, he turned to principals that Tyr has.
I was like "imagine the real tyr is prisoned here" when I was exploring the prison, then I saw him a few minutes later. They really worked hard even for the post-game. It makes you feel like only the main story has come to an end, not the game.
Odin was trying to avoid ragnarok by keeping Tyr as a prisoner, knowing Tyr was going to lead the ragnarok. However, Odin himself in the shape of Tyr started the ragnarok. It's like Freya and Baldur's story. Freya caused his son's meaningless death, trying to prevent to prophecy, Odin caused Ragnarok trying to prevent it. So the giants were right, "Tyr" really led the ragnarok.
i think it would had been cool if Týr was a secret super boss after you met him at each location. He recognizing Kratos as the greek god of war and knowing what he did, he thanks him for all he have done in his absence, but tell there still threats from outside of the nine realms and while peace might last, they must always be prepared, so he challenges you as a way to "prepare for war".
I think instead of that he just gets pissed the minute you find him that he didn’t get to be the god of war for ragnarok and fights you then earns your respect when you win the battle. He’d make a much better end game super hard secret boss fight
Man after watching this entire game and seeing this now its crazy how different real tyr and odin tyr rlly are i rlly like that detail showing how odin thought tyr would act vs how he rlly acts
Fun little fact: from the beginning you meet Tyr “fake Tyr” there is no apostrophe over the Y, so the developers made it when you find the real Tÿr he has the apostrophe
After you here the real try you finally understand exactly why he was able to create peace in all realms, and why mimir considered odens act a mockery of him. Try is literally everything Kratos desired to be as a god of war, but thought he couldn’t achieve
It's nice attention to detail. When we find fake Tyr he asks for food but when we find real Tyr and Freya offers him food he rejects it as he needs to think about events that occurred. Spends years in prison and the first thing he asks after he is released is some space to reflect.
The fact that Odin imprisoned and impersonated Tyr the whole time made Odin that much more of a menace. The real Tyr could have been a part of our journey the whole time, but the All Father's tyranny was truly felt with this one.
I know I was hoping for Atreus to ask him to tell some stories about his travels it would be funny if Atreus asked him how he regrew his arm and doing tai chi outside sindri’s house and would give Kratos advice on the differences between vengeance and justice
I think Tyr is more like Athena is good in combat, a great leader for war, and smart and calculated. Now it's time for Tyr and Kratos to meet the Egyptian Gods
@@LXW-Arts I think it's more likely they'll go to the Celtic lands together instead. That's closer than Egypt, has more giants in it, and is most likely where Atreus would go. @@rockycuro7737 while I agree with this whole heartily, I think it would be more financially beneficial for kratos/atreyus to visit the Egyptian pantheon instead. I think more ppl would lose their shot if they saw kratos in a fight with Anubis or Ra.
The writing in this game is stellar ...up to the last act. I don't know why the last part was so Rushed. Perhaps the Norse saga would've benefited from 3 games, to tell a more compelling Ragnarok. Surtr was a sideline, Jormungandr's time travel was lackluster despite it being so integral to last game's plot... I appreciate the game we got. But I am not so blinded as to deny flaws. A game of great features, that lived up to most of its potential. And rushed as it may have been, the last act was still enjoyable
surtr wasn’t the main point because the destruction of asgard wasn’t the main point - odin and thor were and there’s no reason to explore time travel in this game so makes sense they brushed passed jormungandr
I think that if you reflect a little bit, you will notice that the things you deem important about norse mythos are not necessarily important to this game's plot and narrative. I would absolutely hate Sutr and Jormungandr having any more participation in this story than they had, as it was not about them, not about time travel, and not even about the destruction of asgard. This game plot centered around Odin's plots and Atreus' independent development. Giving more space to stuff like that would absolutely drag the plot or outshine what had to be central.
@@kyrectx2 I mean Surtr should’ve been fleshed out a little more though. We tell him to join us and he says he’s not going to become our monster and then a minute later, decides to do exactly that. There's gotta be DLC about After Ragnarok like rebuilding New Asgard, Tyr's integration to society again, Atreus' adventure, Fimbulwinter melting or even maybe The Other Side DLC like we play as Thor and Asgardians but i think that would be boring because Thrud just train, Thor drinks, Heimdall just there and i am sure as hell no one wants to play as Odin
@@tenderandmoist5011 Well then, they could have just exchanged that time and effort doing the optional Vanaheim crater to expand Tyr's return. There is not much reason to pour such resources to explain the backstory of a 2nd frozen lightning bolt. A single mission for that would do just fine.
And after being alone for so long, this Tyr wishes to be... left alone all again? I wish he could have tagged along so Kratos and co. explained what happened. Someone as instrumental as Kratos to Ragnarok who freed him from his cell and all Tyr wanted to do is do yoga across the realms. Like, what?
I hope Atreus gets the chance to meet the real Tyr in future games. Kratos has valid points about searching for Tyr but Atreus was right too in the end.
@@worlds_greatest_detective6667 It could be both. We start off in China, then move down to Japan... But between that would be Egypt. ...Wonder how Sekhmet would be portrayed?
It's very likely the next pantheon is going to be either Hindu or Buddhist-based. Meditation, Tai-Chi, clearing your mind, they all speak of the Asian culture.
Correct if I'm wrong, but i think he was in Egypt too, he has aeroglyphs in his left arm i think. I think he travelled the world in general, that's why he said he heard Kratos name before. That's pretty cool! Next mythology might be Egyptian, maybe we'll see more of him?
i heard somewhere that the directors made him do the arm motions intentionally to hint at future games to come. Last night I was researching the four "symbols of war" that were displayed on the corners of Tyr's hidden panel from GOW2018, and I may have just connected it. If you look up the Triskelion and Three-Fold Tomoe, you'll find that they are symbols in Celtic and Japanese mythology that represent a cycle or spiral of life. Celtic mythology comes from Mimir's homeland. The Three-Fold Tomoe is also associated with archery which is relevant to Atreus. Notice how the two symbols spiral in a clockwise direction, notice how Tyr's arm movements in Vanahem are similar. His movements in Helheim also seem to draw a triangular form, signifying three points. Perhaps it may be referencing the next mythology for us to explore. We'll ether be following Kratos and Mimir to Scotland, or we'll be following Atreus to Japan. Each mythology has their own God of War as well, so perhaps it sets up for an even bigger picture!
So tyr is actually doing tai chi so maybe next game is set in the chinese pantheon. Also want to say this is the last game with kartos and probably feature Loki, if we get lucky sun-wu kong (the monkey king) because he kind of did kick all of his gods asses and was the rebel of his patheon.
IGN did a pod cast with a dev like yesterday and the dev was saying when TYR is doing the yoga pose in vanihim it’s an Easter egg to the future off god off war or something like that😊
Honestly i really want kratos to keep being the mc. Atreus is a great character and still has his own story to follow, but kratos is THE god of war. Havinf a God of war game without him would not be God of war. Im all for atreus still having his own storyline in the games but it should be more 50/50 or 30/70 between atreus and kratos
I am not sure where they’ll go. It feels like they could have Atreus removed to be searching for the giants, and Kratos be the main on a new quest, or Kratos could stay behind wanting to rest, and Atreus be the new main.
Such amazing writing. When we first were originally introduced to tyr I didnt really like what they had done to him and I thought he acted differently from what I had heard of him. I ofc thought this was bad writing, but then they reveales that it was Just odin all along, and the real tyr we see in thid video is much more how I imagined him. Amazing game
it shows how odin’s tyr was a mockery of the real tyr too, the real tyr is calm and peaceful but odin saw that as cowardly so he portrayed tyr as a bumbling pacifist
I love how finding tyr in multiple realms means that he can use realm travel. I like to imagine he used his own realm travel room and was happy the jotunheim tower was back. He might not have a no frost but … I dunno maybe he stashed one somewhere. I like to imagine
Seeing Tyr like this, makes me think of how interesting it'd be if the next GoW game, however long into the future it will be before that happens, would cool if Kratos goes back home, and finds it under Roman rule, but the Roman gods are still fairly new and inexperienced, so Kratos either becomes the God Mars in the Mythology, or he finds an inexperienced Mars and helps him and guides him into becoming a respected God of War, unlike Ares. Basically give Kratos a mentor like role at this point, as well as maybe have Tyr apparently teach Kratos a few things as well.
I mean,Tyr disappointed me a lot. After all the things about him in the first game,in ragnarok the real tyr is only an generic Npc with some unique interactions, without any kind of big side quest or anything. For me,is a little bit lackluster

Hope they do dlc this time for this god of war, that would be a good way to do some side stuff with tyr, and learn more about him but chances are that’s not going to happen😕
Gotta be honest, much as I loved this game, the real Tyr wasn't needed. The plot twist with Odin was great but I think it would've been more effective if the real Tyr was simply dead since he basically served a martyr for Kratos and Atreus' mission in both games and it wouldn't be surprising considering Odin's character.
@@orlandofigueroa2137 I've been suspecting that now but it would've been nice to either had a side-quest with him in this game in the meantime, or for them to simply wait until the next game to reveal he's alive. Just throwing him back in without any real follow-up just kinda takes away from it and leaves you with expectations for a sequel because what if he's not featured?
The biggest disappointment for me in GoWR was not that Tyr turned out to be Odin (that was an epic twist) but the fact that you free real Tyr AFTER Ragnarok. Imagine if you freed him before and he was a vengeful, angry God of War out to get Odin and fought along side you during Ragnarok. Such a waste
You can also tell it’s the real Týr by the way his name is spelt in the subtitles which is “Týr” ofc, which is the correct spelling of his name. The hint that was given to us the players that the first Tyr was the imposter was by the way his name was spelt in the subtitles which was just “Tyr” which is incorrect. The only reason why a lot of you may have not caught onto that is the same way you may not have caught onto how I spelt the name incorrectly before telling you that it was the incorrect way of spelling Týr’s name 😉
I would have liked him to at least have a side mission or two involving him. Have him in each realm ask kratos for a specific item that he lost in each realm he visited, then bring them to him. These items will be very hard to find and not be revealed on the map. When you find them all, Tyr says to come back later as he has something to show Kratos. Then have the following side mission have Tyr want to show kratos something. You then take a "spirit walk" with him through midgard as a temporary ai companion. Then you reach a spot exclusive for this mission and when you step through, you're transported back to the Greek world on top a mountain, looking down on the cities and people. It is revealed the people used the Power of Hope kratos released and used it to rebuild Greece without the gods' influence and are now thriving. After being taken back, Kratos thanks Tyr for showing him
Easy as that, Kratos can simply open up the gate? But Tyr couldn't after all these years? And that conversation is weird, " I need some space," idk. Could of been better.
I find it curious that the roles of Nidhoggr & Hraesvelgr are reversed in God of War. Nidhoggr is the corpse eating dragon that gnaws on the roots of the world in the poetic edda while Hraesvelgr dwells in the highest boughs of Yggdrasil. And Ratatoskr carried insults between the two.
Tyr was loved by mortals and other races, talks about understanding and peace but shows strength of personality when he talks and looks like a viking Jesus. I don't know if that was deliberate on the studio or a coincidence
Tyr doing those exercises and meditation are supposedly hints of what location the next game will take place, as in where did that practice originate from, according to Eric Williams. Interesting stuff 🤔🤔🤔

You know I always thought it weird that nobody in the game found it suspicious that there was no significant guard at fake tyrs prison. Odin did already reveal that he does not wish Atreus to keep looking for Tyr when they first met so that shouldve been obvious to anyone that either he really doesnt want that, so they should do it, or it meant that he wants them to find him wich would be majorly suspicious to say the least. Thats the one thing I didnt like about the story writing because to me it doesnt make sense. Mimir shouldve put that together or at least mentioned to Kratos that it was too easy freeing Tyr. But I can live with i t as the rest of the game was awesome.
When Keaton first found Odins version and asked “this, is the god of war?” I knew something by was off. Any god of war would stand proud no matter what the imprisonment maybe.
There is one thing I dont get - maybe someone of you guys can tell me the answer. Is the prophecy just meant to lead them to the fake Tyr? Because black smoke isn't quite the right description for the location of real Tyr right? I also wonder how Odin knew they would be looking for Tyr in the mines, but that might be just Odin stuff (and maybe has to do with the Dwarfs being forced-loyal to him)
uh, maybe I'M wrong but I think it was a little bit of the Dwarfs being loyal to him or something of that nature, I believe the point was that Durlin didn't want to "truly" help you, and was helping Odin, he gave you a map to where Fake tyr was and I am assuming Odin had JUST gotten there in the story, to immediately start selling the illusion. since I am pretty sure the real Tyr was ALWAYS in Odin's prison and not some random one in a mine. but also on the topic of "black smoke" correct me if I am wrong but I think it is still correct because you can only find real Tyr after Asgard is destroyed and I guess in some ways you could argue is "burning down" which produces black smoke and thus the prison post game can slightly fit the bill. (I also don't remember the FULL prophecy so maybe this makes no sense)
The thing about prophesy is that it is like a picture. It only shows an image but not a context. Either Durlin betrayed them working with Odin all along or Tyr was really in the mines but when Odin could not convince Atreus to stop looking for him, he moved Tyr to the prison and took his place.

As much as I love this games story, it feels kinda disappointing that the real tyr never played a central role in the story since it was really Odin in disguise. The trailers implied he would play an important part yet he was just a post game side character:(
Well they’re not gonna spoil integral parts of the story in the trailers. If Tyr was meant to be a bigger part of the story and they had him in the trailer, he most likely would’ve been a casualty
wait until next time Tyr will reflect and find real truth about manipulations of Athena she did want all this to happen ..
SPOILER: I think Kratos is meant to be Tyr, you can see a god of war leads the charge on Asgard and Kratos at the end becomes one of wanting peace and not to kill just because he can, he turned to principals that Tyr has.
he's definitely gonna be a big part of the next game
Better then him being dead it was either that or this
I was like "imagine the real tyr is prisoned here" when I was exploring the prison, then I saw him a few minutes later.

I know I was hoping for Atreus to ask him to tell some stories about his travels it would be funny if Atreus asked him how he regrew his arm and doing tai chi outside sindri’s house and would give Kratos advice on the differences between vengeance and justice

...up to the last act.
And rushed as it may have been, the last act was still enjoyable
surtr wasn’t the main point because the destruction of asgard wasn’t the main point - odin and thor were
and there’s no reason to explore time travel in this game so makes sense they brushed passed jormungandr

@@hugosilva9502 The Real Tyr does get around, so it wouldn't surprise me.
The last game explain on the mural that Tyr did travel around.
i heard somewhere that the directors made him do the arm motions intentionally to hint at future games to come.
I remember a comment that said that the real Tyr should have a friendly duel with Kratos

Other way around, could be last game with Kratos and next we only play as Loki/Atreus

Top notch keep posting man
Tyrs persona is perfect for a god of war whos polite and patient, unlike anything you'd ever expect.
I just want they make a game about Faye, before she met Kratos. Base on favor "casuality of war", I can feel how strong, badass she is

Have to go check myself but someone said there's also crow feathers in the fake Tyr's cell.

I was kinda hoping Tyr tell Kratos of the other lands he visited, the mortals who worship him and the other gods of how they are.
After being taken back, Kratos thanks Tyr for showing him
Now THAT would be a great ending!
**Kratos go back to his homeland and found Tyr**

You know I always thought it weird that nobody in the game found it suspicious that there was no significant guard at fake tyrs prison. Odin did already reveal that he does not wish Atreus to keep looking for Tyr when they first met so that shouldve been obvious to anyone that either he really doesnt want that, so they should do it, or it meant that he wants them to find him wich would be majorly suspicious to say the least.

i find it interesting that the fake Tyr had no apostrophe above the Y. But the real one does have that apostrophe.
Next story, Kratos and Tyr goes to other worlds and unite the other gods of war.
