It's no wonder why Odin was able to kept his cool right until the end. The one who defied fate wasn't Kratos or Atreus. It was Odin. The prophecy stated that Tyr will be the one to lead an army against Odin. It make sense because in the original prophecy, Kratos was killed and Atreus went to serve Odin. There would be no one left to be the general except for Tyr who will eventually escape imprisonment. Odin must have thought that he'd already won Ragnarök since he broke the prophecy. Kratos didn't die and Tyr remained imprisoned. Ironically, the joke was on him. Locking up and impersonating Tyr not only helped Kratos to survive but prevented Atreus from joining him as well. Odin suffered an even greater defeat than what was prophesized because he tried to defy fate.
no this is objectively wrong, the prophecy wasn't real that was made clear, the fates said that they can predict what people will do so it looks like they can see the future but they can't also kratos was never in danger of death because he is literally absolutely immortal because of a curse the olympians put on him

So fascinating the way they've depicted Týr, Its a stark contrast to Kratos. They're both Gods of War yet one is a Warfighter, the other is a Strategist.
I think kratos is a strategist sure but Tyr is a diplomat, more of a counselor of war than a violent god that revels in war. One brings tactical superiority through acts of violence and the other through words and pleads of peace.
kratos is only the god of war in title. he want born as the god of war. attributing something like that to him isn't correct. it's not wrong but not correct.

Tyr has obviously been to the realm of the asian pantheon. I can only imagine the things he must of learned there, melding his own ideas from growing up among the norse. To create that kind of synthesis and still be alive after Ragnorok, there's alot of good he can do with it.
I'd say that it was 90 percent accurate. In my mind, the real Tyr definitely isn't as cowardly. Peace-seeking, yes, but not to the point where he wouldn't defend himself. Odin's version was cowardly to the point that it was a parody.
To think that the Tyr we rescued initially was Odin the entire time.. and yet seeing such a contrast between the two's reactions to being freed..really shows how Odin thought of anyone other than himself. As if that wasn't apparent enough throughout the entire game, here as Tyr tells us he must reflect, we too reflect and realise even more so how much of an asshole he was
I don’t remember who said it, but someone noticed how when Odin is Tyr, it’s spelled “Tyr”, but when they talk about the real Tyr, it has the apostrophe over the Y. I love how they did that.
I know this is gonna sound weird. But my dad died a few months ago and he LOVED Tyr. Wrote about him in notes all the time. He was a BIG BIG fan of God of war, and I know he would have loved this. God of war Ragnarok was the first time I played this without him. I wish he could've seen Tyr.
You can immediately spot the glaring different between imposter Odin - Tyr and the real deal Tyr when you meet him. Odin-Tyr emenates a cowardice , sycophantic manipulative aura from his voice and tones . Odin tried his best to used his son's best attribute hes known for - the love for peace, he used it to manipulate Kratos and the crew but his voice and action still sound like hes just trying to avoid war at all cost. The real Tyr sounds pro profoundly wise, calm and RESPONSIBLE , he want peace, but hes always ready for war if it demanded. He speaks for the people. Just few minutes interaction with him and i can already tell why the people of the nine realms loved him so much. Wish Artreus could have meet him.
Love how people like you make up their own story for a character trying to justify stuff that isn’t explained the real tyr doesn’t give off anything that you described, it was lame af and that’s it
@@ronnie9033 the only thing lame around here is your attitude. It is a fictional work and people can interpreted it how ever they want, it is an opinion. And a matter of fact his opinion have more stuffs backing it up more than the shitty comment of yours.
@Ronnie Calm down, bub. Let people enjoy something. Just cause you disagree, doesn't mean many people see the same way. I personally love the real Tyr and I agree with original comment's take.
If you believe from the few words tyr said he ‘sounds profoundly wise, calm, responsible and always ready for war” then you must be at a children level of reading or some shiz coz he doesn’t say nothing of worth in the slightest. He’s just meant to of been locked up doing nothing the whole two games or for however long in the story before the start of that. He could’ve at least been like ‘I’ve been waiting for you’ I knew this was going to happen type vibe. He literally says ‘I did nothing’ how is he wrong?
Welp the legit tyr is free , sadly at the end of the game tho.... Legit could've helped us out in the actual early games but here's hoping he'd stick around and help rebuild the 9 realms with kratos while Atreus becomes the next god of war
Damn! I was wondering that myself. I saw the whole gameplay, and after Odin's treason and desception, I was wondering if Tyr was still alive or he actually killed him.
He remained wise and mentally prepared like a true god of war after all those years, truly mind boggling. If the real Tyr was there, the war is already over to begin with. Probably not even needing Ragnarok or hell sent another Serpent back in time, breaking the loop.
Mimir suffered a similar fate to Tyr, not nearly as long, but in similar fashion. Being held down and fed lies and illusions to fuck with him. Mimir was upset by the trickery (and probably reflecting back on what he had done for Odin), but he knew it was all lies. The real Tyr seems far humbler and is definitely peaceful, thus Odin had little to use against him and assumed leaving him trapped would be enough to break him. Very interesting stuff coming from SMS. Their story telling is amazing and interpretations of Norse mythology is spectacular
@@acebully1143 Cory Barlog, he told even in God Of War 2018 he has some details "for later and much much later". Ragnarok is not the last one, alot of people joined Santa Monica just to develop games for God Of War series, would be rather stupid just to leave it here with how much is unanswered with what concerns Norse characters and characters like Athena.
I love the difference between Mimir and Tyr, Mimir is smart, he can come to conclusions quickly and find solutions, Tyr is wisdom, he collects and compares his knowledge and forms an answer that way. I imagin they're very close because of that. A personification of intelligence and wisdom
It makes sense why Tyr would be a Zen type of guy. Kratos and Ares thought the position was about conquest and carving your path in blood. Tyr is calm and thinks. War takes more then just brute strength and blood shed it takes thinking and calculating. Tyr (currently) is by no means manipulating them. He is just using his mind and knowing in a time of peace a god of war is not exactly needed. So he’s just kicking back, enjoying his time off.
I mean, it's more like he can't do anything cus he's imprisoned. Tyr's more cautious than afraid, he seems to be more level headed than what Odin shows him as.
this feels like a big slap in the face after Odin reveals. like did you really need to kill brok and then have this chucklefuck shows up like "haha I was actually alive all along".
Yeah the reveal was a bit weak, but I honestly don't mind it. I find it extremely hilarious actually, the guy shows up and is just chilling, doing tai chi
Man. Odin really set this all up since the beginning of the game. Him saying there will be peace as long as they don’t go looking for tyr, all while planning to impersonate him for when they find him. Brilliant
So what you think about this: If we found the real tyr from the start kratos would have died at the end. Because in the murals of the future tyr is the one to lead the army of Ragnarok. Since Odin tried to avoid that fate he caused kratos fate to change too. Also, Odin’s disguise either trick the Norns or they knew but since they saw Kratos’s past they pitted him. I also like how kratos death part was replaced by Odin.
It's both crazy and makes sense that Tyr would still be alive. Odin kept him locked up to both have his knowledge and his form whenever he wanted, using and playing us, until we finally ended him. Now Tyr is finally free, in a land of Realms free from Odin's control, maybe after he experiences all the new sights and learns about everything that happened outside, maybe he will be the one to lead the Aesir into peace with the Vanir, or Sif can handle that with Hildsvini. Personally, I hope he and Kratos could talk to each other about their experiences as gods of war, help each other out, and Atreus could meet Tyr for real sometime
The scene where odin comes to talk with kratos and he brings durlin was a big clue. Durlin was the one who gave them the map to tyr, and odin made it obvious that durlin was under his control.
I think that Týr is like Iroh from Avatar: The Last Airbender, he looks like really good, wise and harmless person but if he had to defend himself or to join into war, he will show his enemies how powerfull God of War truly is and especially in battlefield.

A quick fact in actual Norse mythology during Ragnarok Tyr is killed by Garm but Tyr is able to stab Garm in the chest before dying so neither of them won that fight

So I'm playing through this a 2nd time and I noticed something with the subtitles. Basically The little symbol above the Y is missing when its Odin speaking but its there when its the real Týr.
The fact that Tyr was beloved by many people of many different pantheons is unimaginably powerful. He's like Luffy from One Piece... except more mature
You can also find him meditating at the spark of the world. He seems quite concerned about what happened to surtr and how sinmara will grieve for a long while after knowing his fate after ragnarok. Kinda sad
I don't like how they handled some character's deaths. Tyr being dead added more layers to the story, and showed Odin's true cruelty and obsession with fate. Finding out he's alive cheapens this a little. Even if they add a reason. Birgir's death also comes across a little cheap when you find out he survived, especially so when they explain how in a secondary mission. Which is reduced to a joke, literally. He survived the fall by doing a (barrel) "roll".
Tyr is all about self sacrifice, justice, and courage. He represents kindness and good, in taking strong actions for the sake and safety of others first. His knowledge is incredible, his courage is admirable amongst all the Gods. Very cool how he is depicted here. He has two hands even lmao

@@TheQ14A I don't think it's rushed. It this Tyr was the real one at the start, things would have been easy for kratos and the rest of the army. Because Odin would have never learned anything from him spying as Tyr.
Tbh, I would've accepted more if the real Tyr is actually dead long before the events of Ragnarok and that Odin didn't need him alive in order to immitate him which he used a different kind of magic for that. Makes the whole Odin plot twist right before Ragnarok to feel more desperate and overwhelming because of how much they had actually hoped for Tyr to lead and fight alongside with them like the prophecy had described
I love Tyr is doing Tai Chi at the end there. I wonder if this is a subtle hint that the next pantheon in this series will be the ancient Chinese pantheon. Seeing Kratos fight 12 bosses based on the zodiac would be amazing.
The only problem is that now Kratos has finally found peace, there is no need for him to travel elsewhere to fight and given how reluctant he was to get involved with Ragnarok I doubt he has the motivation to pick up another fight
I had tyrs betrayal spoiled by a youtube video (picture thing) on my feed, luckily it didn't say what it was so I was still surprised by the revelation of odin
It's cool how Tyr was supposed to lead the army of Ragnarok, but even though it was Odin impersonating Tyr, the idea of Tyr on their side gave them hope of victory. So in retrospect, Tyr was always on their side in their fight.
So was Tyr in that prison the whole time or was he originally held in the apple core, but Odin had him moved when he realized Atreus and Kratos were getting close to finding him.

Exactly So what we know of him would just be a echo over the voice
when he starts speaking over key plot lines so we know the real Tyr already.
I'd say that it was 90 percent accurate. In my mind, the real Tyr definitely isn't as cowardly. Peace-seeking, yes, but not to the point where he wouldn't defend himself. Odin's version was cowardly to the point that it was a parody.
I’m very glad Tyr is actually doing well
To think that the Tyr we rescued initially was Odin the entire time.. and yet seeing such a contrast between the two's reactions to being freed..really shows how Odin thought of anyone other than himself.
Big DLC focusing on Tyr.
You do yoga with him, then he teaches you how to make gluten-free gingerbread cookies.

He honestly hits me like such a hippie XD

It makes sense why Tyr would be a Zen type of guy. Kratos and Ares thought the position was about conquest and carving your path in blood. Tyr is calm and thinks. War takes more then just brute strength and blood shed it takes thinking and calculating.

It’s genuinely great to get to meet the real Tyr. I really didn’t want that twist to be the end of it.

The scene where odin comes to talk with kratos and he brings durlin was a big clue. Durlin was the one who gave them the map to tyr, and odin made it obvious that durlin was under his control.
