      I also like to see the Reactions of the "Losers" (They were nominated for an Oscar which I still think is still a great accomplishment)
      Talie Shire did look very dissapointed and so did LIv Ullman. Talia defintely did applaud and so did LIv Ullman I think Sissy looked like she was happy that Faye Won. I assume maybe she was a big Faye Dunaway Fan.
      I remember recently watching I think it was the Oscars Telecast- maybe it was the Emmys. I believe of the nominees for some award- I think it may have been Director or Best Actor were Black. When a whiter Person won- both did not applaud at all, but almost gave dirty looks. I thought that was bad Sportsmanship. I don't think that person who won the award won it because they were White and/or the People who voted on it were Racist. They won because the Academy Members who voted on it thought they gave the best performance or if it was for Directing the best job in that category.

      @De St I am not relying on gossip and hearsay, because I ain't believing them, unlike you... The Oscars were "normal" back then by today's ridiculous standards. No fancy outlandish "glamorous" designers dresses, no hysterical fanatical thank-you speeches from winners who think they have saved the world or something equivalent, no overhype surrounding the nominated actors... everything was executed in a dignified fashion. • @elgranreyes9625
      @elgranreyes9625 9 років тому +34

      I hope you all realize that the 70s were made up of public outbursts at the Oscars, and that you're interpreting the simplicity of style for gracefulness. The Oscars grew publicly contentious during this decade. George C. Scott refused his Oscar! Brando sent Sacheen Littlefeather to lecture everyone about the treatment of American Indians, a streaker ran naked through the stage, Vanessa Redgrave called pro-Israeli protestors "anti-Zionist hoodlums," and Paddy Chayevsky told her off immediately following on air. Dustin Hoffman said he refused to believe he was better than his four competitors and that these types of competitions were silly (even if he accepted the award anyway.) If anything, Jane Fonda was given credit for NOT lecturing anyone on the Vietnam War when she won Best Actress in 1972 (for '71), and Charlie Chaplin getting a special award made up for the blacklisting he suffered, and the indignity of having his nominations canceled before the first Oscar ceremony. If anything, the Academy has grown more cautious, more controlling of its image, and expects everyone to behave. The 70s made everyone nervous, and since we have a five-second delay, we can no longer expect that type of misbehavior. We can only yearn for a good spontaneous moment. As far as I'm concerned, Michael Moore ranting about the Iraq War was a great moment in 2003, and we should have more of them.

      Elgran Reyes Yes, all those things that you mentioned did happen, Elgran, but they happened out of sincerity- the people who committed those acts did so because they truly believed in what they were saying.
      It wasn't simply a cynical ploy to get press.
      There was an honesty to this time that simply does not exist today, and I think that is what the other commenters were trying to touch upon.

    Faye Dunaway and Peter Finch won best actor and actress for the same film Network that year. Finch died of a heart attack 2 months before the Academy Awards on Faye Dunaway's 36th birthday. He had just appeared on Johnny Carson the night before and was scheduled to appear on Good Morning America that morning with Network's director Sidney Lumet when he had a heart attack at the Beverly Hills Hotel lobby. Lumet was there and tried to revive him to no avail.

    I'm happy to see that Faye Dunaway and William Holden were getting along at this point. When they previously worked together on The Towering Inferno, Faye's lateness caused Holden to push her against the wall and threaten her because he got so angry. There was worry there would be tension between the two when they worked on this film together, but Faye Dunaway actually noted that she was very pleased with how kind he was on the set of Network and the two ended up getting along quite well, seeing past their former differences. You can see Holden clapping and smiling for her as she goes up to get the award and it just makes me happy to know they reconciled.

      Before she was even a star Dunaway was notorious for being late and in general acting like a diva. One of her early roles was in THE DISAPPEARANCE OF AIMEE where she appeared alongside Bette Davis and by the time filming was over Davis absolutely hated her.

      Joan Crawford never said Faye was the best actress to portray her in a film. In the 1980 book Conversations with Joan Crawford, Joan states (allegedly because research into the author points to the book be fabricated) this, "Of all the actresses, to me, only Faye Dunaway has the talent and the class and the courage it takes to make a real star."

I Am Still Dissatisfied With Academy For Not Nominating Faye Dunaway For Her Potrayal Of Another Oscar Winner Joan Crawford In Mommie Dearest. The Role Is So Superior Till She Listed As 50 Greast Villain Of All Time By American Film Institute.
