Totally agree. My judgment of movies and performances have changed as I've matured, but Glenn Close's performance still blows me away every time. Happy Cher has an Oscar, but it should've been for Mask.
+Ryan Perez - I'd give her a win for Mermaids, even fraudulently as lead actress, before Moonstruck. it's a shame bc she has actual great performances in her filmography but in terms of awards will be remembered for such a nothing performance.
+SethBlizzard Although I thought Cher was splendid in Moonstruck, I would have given the Oscar to Glenn Close (who still does not have one!). I somehow think that Cher's Oscar was not only for Moonstruck, but for Silkwood and Mask as well.
My favorite thing about this moment will always be Meryl's reaction despite having lost, herself. I think it's pretty great that they were best friends here and still are to this very day.
I love Cher and I love her in Moonstruck. But if Glen Close wasn't a guaranteed win that year I don't know what was. It's unbelievable but I think the feel-good aspect of Moonstruck was a deciding factor even though Close's performance was unquestioned. I've always loved Cher's acting chops, as most comedians really do rise to task of serious Oscar worthy performances. In a perfect world the 1987 Best Female Actor should've been a tie.
At 0:56, Meryl looks gorgeous in the audience, the best she's looked! Cher has a worried look on her face bc she knows she's up against four outstanding performances (I saw them all). Actually anyone who saw Sally Kirkland in "Anna" will remember her performance, but not enough people saw that movie.

Apparently this standing ovation, (which never happens at the Oscars anymore), acknowledges Cher's amazing talent. She completely deserved this prestigious award!
So you're saying that Cher is more talented and skilled than Meryl Streep, for example. Just when Meryl Streep won her third Oscar she received a standing ovation... and Cher won just one (even unfair) and she gets that ovation... 😂😂😂😂.
Meryl is so cuteee. Both Meryl and Cher looked gorgeous!! Cher has something special, she was born to be a superstar, you notice of that with just watching how she looks, how she speaks, how she acts and moves

Stunning and humble. Cher is an amazing actress. She was, is and continues to be the complete package. If only the ageist sexist media and the Western World would just STOP demonizing Woman of a certain age, who challenge the stereotype or myth of if your a woman there is a way to "age gracefully" meaning that you must start looking like a grandmother. It's such a double standard. The BS that in order to be a "beautiful" woman you have to be under 20 and anyone who continues to be "sexy" over 30 is ridiculed and harrassed as if they are doing something wrong by just being true to them selves. Your damned if you do and damned if you don't. When Cher was in her 60s it started and now sadly, pathetically the focus of abuse is on Madonna. Leave these ICONS alone. BUT I do wonder what happened to her hunky boyfriend at the time? Love You Cher. XXX
Virtually all women 'of a certain age' look like grandmothers. Just like all men the same age resemble grandpas. It's just the nature of life itself, it's not inherently good or bad.
Lifelong friends since silkwood..Meryl is a generous actress supports her co-starring actors/actresses in movies. It's been said more than a few times. How it should be ..acting off of each other is extremely important to the story in a movie..this is why Meryl is so amazing in all her movies..she engages with the whole cast of characters in relation to her part..instead of just doing her role..she understands the importance of the opposite roles bouncing off each other no matter if its a new unknown or another well known never ever a bad movie when she's present

I was going to say… not so much of a good actor that she was able to pretend she was happy…!
I'd be pissed too, if I lost.
Cher and Meryl!! The love is REAL. I adore them both, even if Cher is like within my soul.
Paul Newman should have won an Oscar for being soooo good looking! That was when Cher was going with the bagel boy!
Still Glenn’s finest performance after all these years. I understand Cher’s win but Glenn should have.
1000% agree.
Absolutely!!!!

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 agree. Best female performance to not win the Oscar.
And Dangerous Liaisons
Moonstruck is like my ultimate guilty pleasure movie. It always makes me think and cry and laugh and get in my feels. LOVE IT! She was so believable as an Italian New Yorker. Oscar well deserved.😁😁😁😁😁
Cher was good in Moonstruck, but Glenn Close should've won. People are still talking about her performance in Fatal Attraction.
I agree. Glenn Close was amazing in that role.
Glenn Close was far and away better than Cher. More three dimensional and had far more depth in her performance.
I really love how Meryl jumps out of her seat and shows so much love for her 💕
Sally Kirkland was shading like hell at 1:34... no saving it, girl lol
She did turn in a good performance in "Anna".
Close was in a completely different league. She deserved it 100%!!
1:34 Meryl's the coolest...genuinely happy for Cher being the winner. Love her for that. :)
Cher don't need any award to prove her talent. she's a Legend!
1:34. Meryl. My fave reaction by someone who didn't win, ever.
Cher deserved the Oscar, Moonstruck is an incredible movie and she was magnificent in it and so was Nicholas Cage
1:59, her left earring falls, you can see her saying "sh*t". Then, she delivers a wonderful speech. What an icon
Meryl's reaction is the best! She seems so genuinely happy for Cher
meryl streep jumping up with excitement when cher wins is so adorable i could cry
Sally Kirkland literally fakes a smile.
Because Cher didn't deserve it. Glenn Close should have been the winner.
@@juancarlosucedaperez3815 Moonstruck is a beautiful film and Cher's performance was wonderful. Leave it out.
@@filipzawistowski4390 Glenn's performance was more... MORE complex than Cher's one
@@juancarlosucedaperez3815
And you know she felt this way about it... how?
I loved Moonstruck and Cher. She did a really great job along with the cast. She is beautiful then and today. Well-deserved Oscar.
She is so real to her soul.
It is always so fun to watch her achieve a lifelong goal, and to be truly grateful.
Damn Meryl is BEAUTIFUL
The reason Cher has had such a long career is because she's a sweet, talented person.
CHER GOLD : )
I luv Cher. Glenn Close should've won this Oscar. And Cher should've won best Actress for her role in "Mask" playing Rusty Dennis she was phenomenal.
my fav part was Meryls' reaction! always love her as she never seems full of herself no matter how famous she is or how many awards she's won or been nominated for!
Cher deserved this Oscar. But so did Glenn Close. But she knew she didn't stand a chance of winning that year. The media hyped up this win that entire season. But Glenn Close's performance that year was unforgettable and still is.
Well I guess you told them (sarcasm)!
Cher won because she Is a great actress. Plain and simple, she was over looked for Mask and she deserved It.
+9th Marquess Sometimes in life all the stars are lined up in your favor. Like a basketball team gets gets a missing piece to win a championship. I have loved CHER since 11 over 35 years now. Also the reaction from the crowd makes me kinda tear up. She has always been and under dog. Singing acting TV whatever. So Its nice to see people except you and a few be happy for some one. This Is a stupid ass conversation anyway. Its not CHER"s fault Glenn Close does not have and Oscar. MOVE ON!!!!
Michael Fellenz Cher is not about actress and Mask is a tear jerker.
Mask has nothing to do with this lolzys
Glenn Close was robbed, she is still iconic in this role while Cher don’t.
She was awesome in "Mask"
Such a great lineup! Lovely actresses that year, the lot of them!
OMFG MERYL JUMPED LOL
+Marcel Parmenas i absolutely loved meryl's reaction, she was genuinely happy for her friend
As much as I love Cher and she was great in Moonstruck, but I think Glen deserved this one. I was genuinely frightened when I watched Fatal Attraction and then when she became Cruela Devil she was even more brilliant.
Glenn Close was robbed. Simply a brilliant performance in Fatal Attraction. She deserved the Oscar that year
Oscar is meaningless
I can't stop singing 'Believe' when Cher start speaking.
What an incredible artist Cher is. Amazing, really. She’s done it all.
Meryl Streep reaction is so admirable! She’s a genuine-unselfish actress! I wish to watch Meryl Streep, Cher and Susan Sarandon in one project!
I would picture them as a trio of villainesses
Holly and Sally are obvously no Cher Fans ...
RoLorenz right lol
I think Cher deserves the Oscar. People often belittle the performance of actors in comedies.
And this was the beginning of the Glenn Close horror which continued in 2019.
The horror started much earlier. Close should have won for Garp.
Hopefully she will win for Sunset Boulevard :-)
Very sad
Peter O'Toole never won, either. The same for Richard Burton.
Yes deffo should've won for The Wife.
Glenn really should have won that year, it was her signature performance in an iconic role
The most amazing thing is the reaction of Meryl Streep who seams to be even more happier than her friend Cher.
Meryl is so cute! ♥
I love Cher so much, she's so real and lovely, and how amazing to see the gorgeous Paul Newman again..☺
So humble. Just like Cher.
No one deserved this more than Cher! For once the Academy gets it right. And Meryl Streep was on her feet showing her support for it.
Eledhwen not really.
lovely Meryl Streep... really happy for you friend Cher win
Paul Newman such a timeless gentleman.
2:00 - drops an ear ring and has to tackle that scarf (?) from falling off. Ends with such great line: " I don't think this means that I am somebody, but I guess I'm on my way. Thank you. " EPIC!!!!!!
I love Cher but Glenn Close was brilliant in fatal attraction. This was a “body of work” Oscar and that’s ok
I would have given it to Glenn Close, she did a fabulous job in Fatal Attraction
I agree, Close's performance in Fatal Attraction is a defining role and is still talked about to this day.
Who remember and still talking about Cher’s role? Nobody but about Glenn’s until the present :(
Anyone who thinks she didn't deserve this, I genuinely invite you to revisit this film today, perhaps on blu-ray, on a nice big enough modern TV. I promise you, she really is terrific in it. Don't underestimate romantic-comedy roles. They're not as easy to pull off as one would assume.
Meryl Streep was out of her seat applauding before anyone else! Such class!
that dress was so ahead of its time. Iconic.
Who won? Cher for Moonstruck. Who should win? Glenn Close for Fatal Attraction
Just saw Moonstruck. That movie did not age well. It's a joke.
Snap out of it!! The only good (and lame) line Cher could have said in that movie. Her performance was average... she cried like Mary Pickford in Coquette (Nobody believes her crying, so overreacting). Glenn Close should have won for giving one of the most complex and unbelievable performances in film's history.
What happened to Meryl Streep?? She is one of my favorite actresses, but come on, Meryl!!! You were quite better than Cher... If Close didn't won, you should have been the winner!!!!
@@juanucedaperez9614
Calm down dude, you don't need to agree with the academy on everything. Close had many campy moments on Fatal Attraction, but I'm not gonna act like a cunt because I disagree with people who think otherwise.
I've always thought Cher should of got some recognition for playing Rocky Dennis Mum in "Mask."
I think Glenn Close should of won here. I watched "Moonstruck" for the first time last year and though Cher is an amazing actress, Glenn should of won this Oscar.
This is one of the best ever line-ups in this category - had any of them won I don't think there'd be too much complaining by anybody (OK, maybe in the comments here).
Meryl's reaction was so AMAZINGLY STUNNING!!
How lucky are we today on 12/9/22 to have Cher & Barbra Streisand & Celine Dion on this earth to grace us with their talent ! I LOVE YOU ALL !
I’m a bigger fan of Celine
