Dude Mike if you wanna give us an intermission at 8:09 at least give us some cheesy elevator music. Also washboard solo guy is amazing. Anyone who wakes up one morning and says to themselves "I'm gonna tear up a washboard solo tonight" gets an A in my class.
stx I used to attend a youth group as a teenager and the guy there used to spike his hair and pretend he was down with the youth and used to brag constantly about how much he loved metal; I approached him to test his knowledge and he just flat out denies being into metal
I lost at the second video. I don't feel bad for the players not having an instrument anymore, I feel bad for the actual guitar, which is weird because it's an inanimate object.
As much as I adore the '-does pop better' and SSF stuff, these kinds of videos are amazing for your channel imo, you're a great personality and getting to know you better is really entertaining.
Really appreciate your performance tips that really apply to any venue where there’s a band and audience. I remember playing a coffeehouse gig with musicians and we performed a piece which I also was very familiar. I have never been comfortable with soloing but I had spent a good amount of time practicing this piece and had some confidence playing a tasteful little acoustic solo. When I began playing I looked to the drummer and he nodded and said “yeah”. When performing with a band you are part of a team and need to be able to communicate with each other. His approval was what I needed to relax, enjoy the moment, and feel it. The moment was amazing and the response was so nice. Performance etiquette is one of the least talked about facets about being a musician and really does separate the genuine players from the douches. Thanks man.
Dahlia Olive It looked as if he were doing “the chicken dance” in slow motion. This is just further proof that white people, such as myself, should just stay off the dance floor.
Try not to laugh challenges are the only challenges that are not Bullshit. If you dont want to headbang sing or dance along to something or whatever you dont have to.But it can be hard to hold your laugh inside.
I can agree to that. I still like the try not to sing challenges because I love singing, and they're genuinely difficult for me when they don't consist of pop music nonsense, rap, or hip-hop. You are right, though. They are kind of bullshit, and the same songs make it into nearly every video. Makes them easy after a while, and not worth the time.
Mike! Big fan of your channel. The backstory to that clip at 4:49 was at a show in my local town. The frontman is named Nathaniel Kinsey and that guitar player had actually planned for that whole thing to happen. He left the stage and there was a car waiting for him outside and he bolted
Hey, man. Awesome video! That advice at the end was super inspiring and useful to me! THANK YOU! I've been playing thirteen years and I can't read music and don't practice a huge amount. I also have my own style and try to feel what I play but those words of wisdom are super good. I'll take them to heart. Being yourself when playing is one thing but it's better to have some solid understanding of your instrument and a healthy respect for your fellow musicians. Keep up the awesome work, dude and Happy New Year!
@ 6:44: I've seen that video a few times and it's hilarious, but I always figured it was staged. I hope it isn't, but something about it makes me think it is.
4:48 yes there's a backstory about it, in the original video the guy throwing his guitar commented on it, explaining what was happening. Can't remember the title of it sadly.
Great point at the end about practice and show etiquette. The idea of playing faster than your capabilities is counterintuitive but it works. Awesome rant!
I knew a guitarist that was super full of himself. To the point you couldn't even compliment him on anything because he'd just respond with "well yeah, I'm a real musician." not even sarcastically. The dude just literally had his head that far up his own ass.
Musical performance is a wonderful hobby and passion. Thing is, some folks don't listen to themselves and can't judge themselves. They think that just the act of performing is everything, that it's enough. It's NOT enough, you have to understand what sounds good, and whether or not YOU sound good. Having the 'guts' to get up and perform in front of others means nothing if you can't see yourself through their eyes or hear yourself through their ears, or are too afraid to. The two worst aspects of egotism...selfishness and fear.
Speaking of open jams and insane guitar players, years ago i was in a band and we had to host an open jam at the club we were playing on a Sat. afternoon. This dude comes up to our guitar player and asks if he can use his guitar. He's like, weird but OK. Be careful though. So this dude gets up on stage, starts pulling these Pete Townsend moves, playing like a spaztic maniac. What we didn't notice while he was playing was that he sliced the tips of his fingers off and left about half a pint of his blood caked in to our guitar player's guitar. Hilarious and enraging at the same time.
I had a friend who told me he wanted to start playing guitar. First week of practicing he bought a stupid ass bucket hat. Stopped playing about a week later.
You can only pull the Hendrix solo off if you're absolutely sure the majority of your crowd is on LSD and is sure to remember whatever happens fondly, lol...

The sad thing is that horrible "blues" solo at the end was played at Buddy Guy's Legends blues bar in Chicago. You can see the backdrop behind them. Blasphemy but not the nifty metal kind

I don't get the guitar spinning. Even if it's pulled off correctly, it's done by people with garbage guitar tone. What's the point?

Janick Gers from Iron Maiden does it every once in a while and not because his guitar tone is shit.
