Thanks. This bridge strangely has got the most shocking and dangerous misuse out of all the videos taken at Brockenhurst and Lymington. A wait at a moving bridge is longer than a level crossing so locals don't want to wait. This is also the only road going over the Poole Harbour as the other bridge is in repairs until this summer.
Yeah, I know. It was such a cool bridge to visit and watch and I'm glad I made a video here as its turned out my most popular. I should be visiting more bascule bridges soon.
Yeah. Whilst the main Poole bridge is under refurbishment and maintenance, the council have made this document stating all the scheduled opening times for the bridge: www.poole.gov.uk/transport-and-streets/roads-highways-and-pavements/poole-harbour-bridge-lifting-times/

UK Level Crossings What's the difference of the railway crossing and a swing bridge their the same signals and alarm sound expect the railway crossing is tracks and swing bridge signals are ocean
If you’re on about level crossings: some of ours have half-barriers (blocking only one side of the road) because they’re automatic level crossings. As there is basically no one watching the crossing, the other side isn’t blocked to allow oncoming traffic to escape the crossing. If you’re on about swing bridges: yeah, all entry/exit roads will have barriers.
They should have copied the old existing bridge as it's been in place for many decades and actually works! The new bridge puts form before function, never a good approach to engineering.
This can be annoying, So how it annoys is that everytime it opens, there will be another boat which will be far away like 1 minute away so like it will close then go up it will keep doing that. Is that true?
That to me, as someone with smidgen of engineering knowledge seems like an unnecessarily complicated bridge. Whatever happened to good old swing and lift bridges, I mean yes they might not look as cool, but they tend to work a lot better and are easier to maintain.

Haha. Yeah, this bridge is quite unique to the typical lifting bridges and swing bridges in the UK. It was a bit of architecture as-well as being a lifting bridge.
I was using a timetable schedule that Poole council had produced whilst the main Poole bridge was closed for maintenance for many weeks. A couple of minutes before the scheduled time of raise, at 14:30, I started recording so I got the start of the sequence.
I guess to warn pedestrians and vehicles the barriers are about to raise. I've only seen this used with bridges. Because its a reasonable wait whilst the bridge raises and lowers, there's an extra warning provided.
Not really as it's caused quite a lot of maintenance problems since it was opened. It was design with architecture in mind to make it look like two sails, so more to do with aesthetics than actual function.
That is NOT a Lift Bridge! That is a double bascule bridge - very clever and striking design! In principle, it is no different from Tower Bridge, London. For a "lift Bridge" see the Kingsferry Bridge on the A249, south of Sheerness, Kent!
1:47 I've never seen a bridge raise like that before! 4:32 so he alarms go back on when the barriers raise too! Are level crossing style barriers and lights common on British drawbridges?
This bridge is very modern and a great piece of architecture. It's not like the usual drawbridge you come across. The alarms come back on as a safety precaution that the barriers are about to raise. This isn't really implemented on level crossings as level crossings aren't as busy. Drawbridges/Swing bridges and level crossings both use wigwags (the red/white bordered flashing lights) to stop traffic and pedestrians. Most barriers are the same on level crossings but moving bridges use barriers made by a different company (as different companies offer cheaper barrier systems).
Providing that its a lifting bridge I'm surprised that there's only the level crossing like barriers to stop cars and people. And hole thing just looks so awesome!

As a life long resident of Poole I can tell you this was the biggest waste of money our council ever made, it was unusable about two months after it opened for about a year and has been in and out of repair since, in contrast the bridge that was built about a hundred years before gets serviced every year and has been fine for almost 33 years
It's a shame this bridge is always having problems. It doesnt seem very reliable. Guess I've been lucky it's actually been operating whenever I've visited Poole.
Yeah, mostly for aesthetic looks and architectural design, and to function as a lift bridge. The two triangular road spans are made to look like two boat sails, hence the name twin sails bridge.
