- This is Gillingham Level Crossing in Medway, Kent having its halogen wigwags replaced to LED versions. Here we see the old lights being removed, the new lights being installed and the final testing of everything! I hope you enjoy it.
There was a lot of work going on that day down the line on the rail track and on the old signal box. As I was there most of the day, it was really interesting seeing the Network Rail level crossing team working. Everything was very coordinated and all the guys worked really well as a team. The job looked like it went to plan and they paid attention to the smallest detail.
Thanks for showing something that is rarely appreciated by the general public. The amount of work and testing the S&T department has to do just to change 4 wig Wags. There is a lot more to it than meets the eye as we see here. In signalling attention to detail is very important hence the amount of time taken to test every part of the circuits worked on.

I would've laughed if they dropped one of the new replacement lights
Very interesting to see how it's done! At the same time, you can also hear the peal of bells from St. Mary's in the distance!
This is so amazing watching a level crossing being worked on! Thanks so much for the video its really good seeing how its done.
alien spider lands on level crossing ;)
That's a pretty cool little spider crane. If only it could walk
man I would of loved to have the old Level Crossing wigwags
I wished me old man was still around as he was fond of Gillingham signal box when he was working relief out of there, I seem to remember this crossing was gated but was an early recipient of the automatic arms as it was hard work for the signalman to run down, open gates, close gates etc due to the busyness of the lines there and I seem to remember there was a box boy tasked for that singular energetic job because gates and the opening of interfered with tea, the drinking of. He often had to wander down and un-padlock the Navy branch to let stuff in and out and he would be cursing the inclement weather and sailors alike. I've still too got a chunk of flight deck off of HMS Triumph when they cut her down prior to scrapping in Chatham, I was there with my uncle who was on HMS Warspite and it was like a boys dreams come true, getting a bit of a famous ship AND a guided tour of a nuclear sub with my eyes all agog and everyone very nice too :)
Definitely don't see this stuff every day and very interesting stuff. Great video :)

The testing reminds me of Father Dougal with the flashing Christmas tree lights...
Wow! I don't think I have seen any footage like this before! Very interesting video! :D
Excellent video
Interesting, but I can't help thinking it'd be less disruptive and cheaper to wait for a halogen lamp module to fail and then replace it with an LED module rather than lifting the whole backboard out.
Did you ask if you could keep one of the old lights?
Great video.☺️
I was going to a park then my mom can’t let me go sucks that’s why thanks for showing me
That was a very cool video
Great video
