It's because Porche won't license their design to Takara or Hasbro. For mainlines, they've tweak Jazz's design just enough to get by. But that won't cut it for MP level
Let's not forget they included a transformed Blaster with MP Tracks....
Wow those little figures are so much more impressive than any of the human ones we've gotten with past MPs

@Nobiemon To be fair nothing in the G1 series is to scale. They change sizes in every scene and sometimes we see scenes where Spike is the same height as Skyfire's legs. Scale in G1 is so inconsistent that we may aswell not even mention it.
@@ju87d-3stuka7 Usually I tend to try and find the "sweet middle," as in which scale works most of the time and should therefore be considered "canon." For example, in one scene, Grimlock is big enough to reach, bite, and hold Thrust in his jaw in alt mode which makes 0 sense, and a similar size never comes up again, so the scene can therefore be retconned and ignored, and Grimlock can be treated as slightly bigger than Optimus. On the other hand, Sky Lynx and Skyfire, both known for being transports, are only slightly bigger than the average Cybertronian, but should be almost Combiner, if not Titan, sized, and therefore can be treated as such. When it comes to figures, I like and collect CHUG, and MP-57 Skyfire scales perfectly with CHUG figures, but I would love to see a potential oversize to make him even bigger and therefore even more scale accurate.

That's why they had to change the character into Skyfire in the 80's. They re-designed and renamed the character to avoid copyright infringement. This is an MP of an original Hasbro creation, not the original Jetfire name.
Hence his Macross/Robotech face change which is a nice nod 😊

I'm pretty sure the reason Skyfires flight stand is orange is cause it resembles the Ark! Like how Starscreams is purple to match the Nemesis!
I was thinking the flight stand colors were representing the respective faction symbols, but that works too.

I appreciate that this figure can recreate the whole slapping the autobot symbol onto his chest from the G1 cartoon.
Very very cool piece but, I think it would’ve been way cooler if Optimus could’ve fit and sat in the cockpit.

It's been almost a year since I got my MP-57 Skyfire, and I still love it. Such a great figure with fun robot and alt modes, and an enjoyable transformation despite its initial complexity. I hope we get more Masterpieces like this that go well with CHUG-scaled figures.
@02:39 I had the same problem until I straightened both legs (thighs bend upwards where the back of both thighs are slightly upwards towards the backpack) which makes the legs bend upwards and those tabs will hold. You can even shake the figure by the backpack and they do stay in.
@02:03 the Faction piece suppose to go down and the top piece overlaps it, but there are still gaps, just not so intrusive as the ones shown in this video.
The bot mode is impressive. The articulation is what Phoenix is missing. Anyhow, I can see a better KO version from BMB coming along already.

Or you could go a fraction of the cost with Magic Squares version.
I’ve been waiting for em to pick up the wfc version to oversize and fill up the hollow spots to make it really good but nobody picked it up so a think they won’t pick up the mp now. Maybe a straight but bad quality ko at best from a nameless ko company

If they hadn't done such a great job with the Siege mold I would have been super excited for this. I opted to preorder the second release of the Siege to display in both modes...... For the price of this one MP🤷 Seems like a no brainer

Exactly. What are people gaining from the MP version? The Siege one is the same size, and has more surface detail!
I believe that the Magnetic "Mask" face can attach OVER the regular faces. At least the official TT video seemed to show that. Im not sure how good that works in practice.

The piece attaches with a magnet right on the face. It's a weak connection and kinda just hangs on.

Got mine a couple of days ago and didn’t have the benefit of your vid, so used the Takara one. You didn’t do it but the backpack effortlessly compresses up an extra half inch on their vid but it was so tough. I had to do a force push of faith and it did click in but felt it was gonna break whatever was resisting inside! 😂

For some reason this just seems kinda…..whatever to me. I always loved Skyfire/Jetfire in the original cartoons and wanted a figure that actually looked like that instead of the Macross we got back then.
Well now we’ve already gotten 3rd party “Masterpiece” ones and the Seige one that pretty much filled that want for me. But it’s good that the people who have wanted an official Masterpiece figure of him finally get it.
G1 jet fire is a robotech jet and I don't mind one bit ^^

FT for plane, MP for robot mode and play gimmicks.

Every time I preorder from BBTS it's always 2 months later that it finally show..I purchase alot of figures from them and here lately its been taking forever..hope this isn't the case with Skyfire...
I already have Seige Skyfire. I pre-ordered this guy way back in June. He will be the robot mode and Seige the plane. The issue with the drooping wings bothers me. Inexcusable for that price. And with that, no reason to ever buy another Skyfire again.
I actually think the G1 original is my favorite…..Robotech was badass.
Cough Macross cough. But yeah Robotech was bad ass shame it essentially ruined Macross and Harmony Gold essentially did what 343 did with Halo and let a golden goose fade.
I wish the "G1 toy" face had a red visor, that would look sick. Honestly though, given that the MP is like...10% bigger than the Siege figure and my Siege Jet/Skyfire is decked out with some Toyhax labels, I'm probably gonna stick with him. The MP IS damn impressive though, gotta admit.
Why is the battle mask magnetized when the other faces attach via peg?

That backpack secondary look definatly hints to the look of the armored veritech fighter from Macross that the G1 Jetfire was.
I think if I had both I would display the FT jet mode and the masterpiece robot mode. Just me tho
Exactly what I did do!
It's not perfect, but bot mode especially is pretty good and with no real fake parts to boot. They've tried to balance simple transformation with alt mode detail and articulation, but at this point it's clear people will complain no matter where they end up on that spectrum. This time I'm not even that shocked by the price, it's a pretty big bot and KOs never have Takara's paintwork.
As great as that is, I had the original when I was a kid and it's tough to beat that one. Even when I was 7 I knew that my Jetfire was something seriously special. One of the few G1 Transformers that looked phenomenal in bot mode and in their alt mode. Tons of articulation as well.

Funny, this is our second Jetfire/Skyfire based on the original cartoon design, and fresh out of my memory, I like it. Not a big follower of G1 myself, just to express it, but I'm happy about it.
Now, wanna consider reviewing a Valkyrie from Macross or hundreds of them? Because one of those Valkyries was the original design for Jetfire, which both Bandai and Harmony Gold took arms against.

You don't know how much I have waited for this one. Now the only season 1 masterpiece left is Jazz, Mirage, and I think Blue streak. someone.
If you are doing Takara only, they did MP18+ Bluestreak, which is the best version of him, IMO.
The walk mode makes me think of Robotech.
The original G1 Jetfire figure in the 80s was originally a Macross figure back in Japan.
I just feel like that siege Jetfire is good enough for me!!
So, the alternate configuration for the backpack in jet mode is a nod to the old G1 toy's backpack design.
These minifigs are wildly better proportionate than their mainline and MP counterparts

Good but not worth replacing commander class jetfire imo. I'm more interested in the mini-figs than other giant white plane.
I have to say, I like some of the tricks this figure pulls off for its transformation, but seeing the gaps in jet mode is a bit of a disappointment. I can understand that type of thing in the Siege Jetfire, but as a Masterpiece, I can understand your frustration with that aspect of the jet. It still looks freakin' beautiful, though, and if I had the budget to still be in the MP game, I would definitely get him - but, for my current collection, I'm quite happy with the Siege figure. (Then again, I have two of them... one is the basic figure with the twin rifles, the other has all the armor, a 3P antenna headpiece, and a 3P Macross-style rifle.)
20:28 robot mode is where it’s at with this figure . Derpy headsculpt tho . Lol still a VERY nice Skyfire.
the Girwalk mode is their because it is based off the Macross VF-01 Valkyrie. If you watch the OS Transformers, his first appearance is straight from marcorss, before they tweak him to avoid being sued by harmony Gold.
Honestly MS and newage really out here making the best Jetfire figure.
NewAge yes but, Magic Square, at least mine, isn't so good. Mine came with two different color whites, one being white white while the other being yellowish white. About 25% of my figure looks like it's been peed on and it left a yellowing stain on it. Alt mode also isn't the best.
@@saysoun752 R.I.P. sorry to hear that. I have their ratchet and jazz and haven’t seen signs of yellowing so it must be a new thing sadly.
@@alc4528 Jazz is freaking awesome and I would love a Masterpiece size version of him. Megatron too is freaking awesome. Probably the best Megatron out there. Magic Square needs to upscale Megatron and Jazz. Their Menasor is legit as well, although one of the arm peg is broken. I emailed them about it and they said they'll send me a replacement part once they get back to the office. Well, it's been a week and if I don't hear anything from them by next week, I'll email them again for a follow-up. Of course their Optimus Prime is the best when it comes to toon accuracies.

While this figure is a mixed bag, I will say this MP-57 Skyfire is way better than Daca Toys Kronos. Oh my God, I remember when you reviewed that figure back in 2015, Emgo. Not the most fun figure you reviewed, but at least the skit was good in that review. Speaking of skits, once again, great job on the skit at the end. I really do love these skits you do at the end of your reviews. 29:23

ok the minifigures are pretty awesome.
I think the legs untab in jet mode simply due to how heavy they are, and gravity is simply working on them, and the hinges are not really good.
I had the same problem until I straightened both legs and now they do tabs in well.
Can't believe how ridiculously expensive this actually is!
In a time when people are struggling to pay the household bills, and everything seems to keep going up and up, they want you to fork out anywhere between £290 to £440 (around $348 to $529) for this thing!!!
It's a luxury item that a LOT of people just won't be able to afford.

Agree, due to size, quality and cartoon accuracy it can be there without looking out of place.
as someone with neither I'm thinking of getting the siege if I'm getting a JF, it looks so much better than the mp IMO, even FT vs Siege is debatable for me IF they retailed at the same price (and since siege is so much cheaper, siege is a no brainer for me if I decide to get one)
Thanks for the quality review...been waiting for a good one with actual decent lighting where you can see the entire figure. By the way, it doesn't look you don't have the logo piece transformed right. It's supposed to snap in all the way. There's several videos and images that show that it does snap in all the way without gaps.

Thanks for the review. I still keeping my FT Phoenix, actually have two just for each mode. I like the official MP Gimmicks though, from the face plates to the little mini figures that can be accomodated in alt mode. Cheers!

Wish I hadn't sold my G1 comics collection. This looks a lot how he looked in the original appearance. (edit: also they didn't really incorporate Gerwalk mode. An actual Gerwalk mode would have the arms out as well, not just the legs. He does use it at one point in the original G1 comics as well)
I was wondering about that with Gerwalk mode.
Judging by other videos, you can do this, at some point move hip and pull out hands, the official instructions show only legs and arms separately, but someone combined them.

He looks nice in robot mode, just....okaaaay in jet mode. Either way, Siege works perfectly for me in either mode as an MP stand-in.

I wish we could mail our Masterpiece figures to Emgo so he can transform our figures for us and then he can mail the figures back to us in robot mode. We would pay him of course. He’d make a lot of money since most of us are afraid of breaking our expensing official and third party masterpiece figures. ⚠️

I love that the battle mask thingy and other references to the original toy are basically just Hastak shitting on Harmony gold for having the audacity to think they could sue the biggest toy conglomerate in the world for using a design from a cartoon they had the rights to like 40 years ago and have done nothing with since.

It's kind of a shame that the backpack isn't removable - that might have been a nice option.
Obviously the Fanstoy and even the Seige version are both superior over this new one, people would PASS if they own either/both of them!

even as a child something seemed off about jetfire to me as he just didn't fit in with all the other real world alt modes of the other jets . you could tell he was unique in the toy line
The stand is orange to look like the Ark interior. The Decepticon stands are meant to be the Nemesis interior. And I wish Takara would improve their stand design. It's not great and could definitely be improved.
Man Jazz just doesn't get the same love that he did in the g-1 cartoon. Him AND Cliffjumper.
