My friend used to live down the street from Robert Plant in Austin when he briefly lived here. He distinctly remembered him running down the street in his underwear with his trash can chasing the garbage man because he forgot to put it out early enough. Down to earth guy!

The world was forever blessed and generations to come when "Led Zeppelin", was created. I was blessed to see Robert Plant live twice. 1987 was incredible! Those who saw him live are a generation that will be envied by future generations. True classy represention of timeless music. That set the bar so high.
I finally saw Robert and the Sensational Space Shifters in 2018. I can die happy any day after that. What a gracious, wise and humble giant of the musical landscape we live in today! Mr. Plant is such a hero of mine.
I think 87 or 88 was first time I saw him manic nirvana tour at the meadowlands. With page at the garden unledded in 96 , at Jones beach with page in 98 probably best show I’ve ever seen… straight up zeppelin, no unledded. & just saw him over the summer with Allison krauss at some place in flushing. Page at the colosseum was probably better than either of the solo plant shows tho.

I did that driving 19 hours to Cheyenne Wyoming, drove all night until sunrise, one of the best solo road trips I ever did and it was to help a friend in dire situation.
That part actually struck me as really odd. It seemed like he thought it was ridiculousness that they said their main influence was Aerosmith when they sound like a Led Zeppelin cover band (rolling the eyes meaning they absolutely HAD to be influenced by Zeppelin), but then couldn't figure out exactly the right thing to do to express he thought that was bullshit. The rolling of the eyes alone would have made sense, but then he added the snoring which sends the message that Aerosmith wasn't a band worthy of influencing anyone which I doubt is what he actually intended to convey.

Rocks and Toys in the Attic will stand up against any Zeppelin album. While I don't consider this important, but since you brought it up, Zeppelin had ONE top 10 hit, as opposed to Aerosmith's EIGHT. And let's not forget Coda and In through the Out Door, both of which were awful. All that aside, it's not a competition, so stop acting like a teenage fanboy.

Just watched Robert Plant perform for the first time in my life July 2 2023 in Lennox Massachusetts. He hasn’t lost anything vocally, amazing vocals that brought back memories of the 60’s. Still got it!!!
My sis and I will be rocking with these kiddos next Friday in Jacksonville Fla. I got us tickets for her birthday, gonna be the best girls night out ever! Can't wait!

I saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page perform in Knoxville Tennessee about 25 years ago. 6th row center, one of the best concert of my life. I saw Greta Van Fleet perform two months ago in Nashville. They are their own band. His voice is remarkable and they put on a great show.
Led Zep laying down this path for GVF to continue down is so cool. GVF have many similarities and lyrically write like Led Zep but they are their own beast and amazingly talented band. I'm glad I live in a time when I get to experience both! BTW I get Getty Lee vibes from Josh's voice, too!
I can listen to both Led Zeppelin and Greta van fleet all day. At first I didn't like Greta, because I grew up on Led Zeppelin thanks to my dad. Then I listened to all their albums. Now I cannot stop listening to them. My dad enjoys them as well. Music is music. Ill definitely let my kid(s) listen to both Greta and Led Zeppelin. My dad generation and my own.

3 years late to the party on this one....that said, I grew up on Led Zeppelin, I really like Led Zeppelin, Greta Van Fleet does sound (intentionally or not) a lot like Led Zeppelin, the last Led Zeppelin album was released in 1979, thanks to GVF I get to hear new LZ sounds. GVF could rename themselves "Gold Zeppelin" and I'd still listen. I like the sound, I like the music, and I don't care who's name is on it.
Right there with you, discovered this band Friday, September 2021 and I've been jamming unapologetically all weekend 😄 Also, yes I agree. I wouldn't give a fuck if they decided to rename their band either OR if they straight up covered a Zepplin album. I feel like I'm among the few that can actually tell them apart from Zepplin and claim that they DO in fact have their own unique sound despite their clearly obvious influences. People should be happy that this is even coming out today. I mean, think about it, kids today are going to hear these guys, love them, then learn about who inspired them and go listen to THEM. Pretty soon, we'll have a new generation of children listening to Led Zepplin, Guns and Roses, and all the other classics and it will come full circle. Either way, this band saved classic rock from dying out. These guys are no older than me, and they've don't that in just over 3 years.... it's just.. it's mind blowing.

They actually mentioned them in the past but I think they're either too tired of being compared or made it a running gag to leave LZ out. Also, they mainly grew up on the same music as LZ anyway, so why not sound similar in some regards? They still have some very original things to them, no matter what people say.

The honest opinion is even in the video, definitely a lot of sarcasm probably out of envy cause he'd love to tour and rock like a 20 year old again. But the comment of "beautiful little singer" was very sincere.
All 1st-time bands start by doing covers. Even the Beatles. Greta is unique in that they became famous in an early phase, just stepping out of that stage. 5 years ahead, they're already different. A lesson for the Next big Thing that sounds like.
It reminds me of a STNG scene in which Captain Picard says he's really not much of an actor. It's such delicious irony because Patrick Stewart is such a highly regard veteran of Shakespeare in the round. He is a fabulous actor in general, too, and was so nonplussed when he spoke the line. I laughed so hard and the moment came back to me over and over for several days. It still does sometimes. So brilliant.

Hopefully Robert is flattered by the imitation, these boys were inspired by real rock legends, so they say, and Josh has the pipes for real, and Jacob has crazy guitar skills... they are truly a great rock band at their age.
He's almost certainly flattered. At the very least, he's pleased some hardy souls are carrying forward the greatest legacy in modern music. He's being coy and clever and playing with interviewer the way Monet played with light, and doing it all in a very short span. That's an absolutely fabulous interview that not only displays some of Plant's tertiary talents but also gives a lot of recognition to a deserving band. He doesn't seem ready to pass the torch just yet, but he is definitely shining some light.

Love led zeppelin but Robert is notoriously difficult to work with and abusive to other musicians he makes music with. Research. Any one can come off cool humble and down to earth in an interview except maybe the Gallagher bros.

That is why people are saying Plant likes them. So where do you see him saying he doesn't like them. From his sarcastic remark of hating the singer because he's young.

No one can just conjure Robert Plant's voice. Josh is a monster. And I think... with a voice similar to Robert's (I'm a HUGE Zeppelin fan), perhaps you can't help but sing like THAT. Josh and the band deserve their own kudos man! They've been doing their thing since they were tweens! Also, they're very non-affected. Unlike Robert and the LZ crew. Lastly. I think Josh said he was inspired by AC/DC, not Aerosmith.

I grew up on The Stones, The Who, and Zeppelin, and I think this band is the real deal. Whether they can sustain it is another story. Their greatest asset, being brothers, is also their biggest liability, plus the million other pitfalls that can derail a young band. But who cares. Right now they're great, and it's fun to watch them explode. I'm going to see them in Boston in July, and can't wait.
They aren't the teenage television stars of yesteryear. They're in the clear. This band is going to be around for many years to come. They individually seem to possess wherewithal and will more than likely not get "caught up" in the "stardom" that tends to happen...
We seen with Oasis with how brothers in a band can be...they got talent and sound great. I'm hoping they can churn something out more original, but even then, what they have now is better than a lot that's out there

Saw Greta live in 2018 or so. Had no idea who they were just went on a wim because the name of the band interested me. If you closed your eyes, you could swear it was Robert Plant singing. They sound just like their studio records. 10/10 probably the best sounding live band I’ve ever heard.
As a U.S. based super fan of Led Zeppelin...who far and away is the best band all time. GVF is a breath of fresh air...who give fitting homage to the best era of Rock. I Love them!
The singer remind me Axl Rose. And the band follows the same destiny of GNR imho. They will be hot for a couple of albums, maybe less, and then stop. End of music. Rock is fall asleep since Nirvana's End. In the Metal way i think that the Big 4 are the last truly best metal bands after Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Black Sabbath. imho.
Led Zeppelin has been my favorite band since I was a kid. I cannot stand Greta van fleet. No originality (obviously) but also their songs suck, their lyrics suck, the little singer is corny as hell, the musicianship is extremely lacking. I don’t really understand who listens to this band. I'm a big Led Zep fan but I'm also a much bigger fan of Old School Rock and Roll. So when I heard GVF for the first time, it sparked a big hope for Rock and Roll to be alive again. Who cares if they sound alot like Led Zeppelin? I'll just think "hey, Led Zep's making a comeback again..but theyre more younger!". Just like Marc Martel, he was like Freddie Mercury resurrected and making some good music.

I just discovered GVF a few weeks ago and im happy that kids are idolizing correct musical greats. I'd rather listen to some classic songs repackaged with new folks rather than listen to the garbage thats being put out daily.

Chad Reynolds I don’t know why this doesn’t bother some people, they make all the excuses they can find to justify liking them, in reality this is just a band that stole the precise sound of a famous band and people act outraged when you call it out, it’s not creative.
I think GVF do a really top job... I can hear where they sound like Zeps but I can hear their own sound and style too... and I think they shine. If the bands I was in sounded that good when I was their age I'd be very pleased.

I know Robert Plant at 20 had the best rock voice I ever heard. He kind of shredded it a little later with the coke and then surgery but go watch 1969 Zeppelin. Holy crap.
I think the thing to take away from this clip is that Robert Plant's answer to the question, "are there any up and coming bands you really rate?", was Greta Van Fleet. In British that means he thinks they're good, however as a member of a different band he's not allowed to say that he likes the competition. In other words, by saying that he hates GVF he's calling them competition which is literally the highest possible praise he could have given them. If he'd just gone ahead and said he liked them it would have come across as condescending.
The first time I heard GVF I instantly heard Zeplin. Then the next song I listened to I heard Rush. Then the next one I listened to I heard Jefferson Airplane. They really are an amazing band and just unique enough to be their own but familiar enough to be instant classics.
Music doesn't work that way, to be "Classic" first you have to be relevant, copying older styles doesn't make you relevant, but taking in all that has influenced you and producing something of your own from it does....Listen to "Ten" by Pearl Jam...that's instant classic, this is not....
you should listen to Eric Johnson and try to watch his guitar instructional video (the first one he did). He mentions in that video that its important to have influences (his being Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Chet Atkins), but its even more important to then find your own voice, which is what Eric did..
Some people criticize GVF for copying LZ too much. But they're not a cover band, a parody, or infringing copyrights. I'm just glad I can hear the LZ sound again without listening to a song I've heard over and over again my whole life.

It's been used to live out my life and a big important part of what's being stole is of Saginaw Michigan and a Paul Prince , I am aware of even the Black Panther in a Bike Trail lol... But really I'm not the only one who Michigan has blessed with the opportunity of being able to take my mother n law back to Flint Michigan and have closure and great memories of Flint Michigan and me of Saginaw Michigan too . Gretta Van Fleet is from a small but very popular town and is strong town in the Political world for the State of Michigan especially . I learned that from watching an interview with the band Gretta Van Fleet on a Radio Station and also learned that the guitarist and base player two guitars there are twin brothers yes pretty cool . I've stayed as much as I can on them from time to time and even seen other music videos of them in shorts drinking Coffee too man , they seen something is what I'm getting at lol ...I want to say thank you but if anyone has ever heard that I don't like certain people because they like their own gender that's not true . My sister's law and a son if mine are great people and they are some of the most popular and actually where my brother in law gets all his Freinds . I'm all about the ladies man . The world was forever blessed and generations to come when "Led Zeppelin", was created. I was blessed to see Robert Plant live twice. 1987 was incredible! Those who saw him live are a generation that will be envied by future generations. True classy represention of timeless music. That set the bar so high.

I finally saw Robert and the Sensational Space Shifters in 2018. I can die happy any day after that. What a gracious, wise and humble giant of the musical landscape we live in today! Mr. Plant is such a hero of mine.
I think 87 or 88 was first time I saw him manic nirvana tour at the meadowlands. With page at the garden unledded in 96 , at Jones beach with page in 98 probably best show I’ve ever seen… straight up zeppelin, no unledded. & just saw him over the summer with Allison krauss at some place in flushing.
Page at the colosseum was probably better than either of the solo plant shows tho.

That part actually struck me as really odd. It seemed like he thought it was ridiculousness that they said their main influence was Aerosmith when they sound like a Led Zeppelin cover band (rolling the eyes meaning they absolutely HAD to be influenced by Zeppelin), but then couldn't figure out exactly the right thing to do to express he thought that was bullshit. The rolling of the eyes alone would have made sense, but then he added the snoring which sends the message that Aerosmith wasn't a band worthy of influencing anyone which I doubt is what he actually intended to convey.

I saw Robert Plant and Jimmy Page perform in Knoxville Tennessee about 25 years ago. 6th row center, one of the best concert of my life. I saw Greta Van Fleet perform two months ago in Nashville. They are their own band. His voice is remarkable and they put on a great show.
Led Zep laying down this path for GVF to continue down is so cool. GVF have many similarities and lyrically write like Led Zep but they are their own beast and amazingly talented band. I'm glad I live in a time when I get to experience both! BTW I get Getty Lee vibes from Josh's voice, too!

I can listen to both Led Zeppelin and Greta van fleet all day. At first I didn't like Greta, because I grew up on Led Zeppelin thanks to my dad. Then I listened to all their albums. Now I cannot stop listening to them. My dad enjoys them as well. Music is music. Ill definitely let my kid(s) listen to both Greta and Led Zeppelin. My dad generation and my own.

For the Record I think it has to do with the fact that Zeppelin never gave credit to the artists that influenced them. Karma, et al.

3 years late to the party on this one....that said, I grew up on Led Zeppelin, I really like Led Zeppelin, Greta Van Fleet does sound (intentionally or not) a lot like Led Zeppelin, the last Led Zeppelin album was released in 1979, thanks to GVF I get to hear new LZ sounds. GVF could rename themselves "Gold Zeppelin" and I'd still listen. I like the sound, I like the music, and I don't care who's name is on it.

I feel like I'm among the few that can actually tell them apart from Zepplin and claim that they DO in fact have their own unique sound despite their clearly obvious influences. People should be happy that this is even coming out today.
I mean, think about it, kids today are going to hear these guys, love them, then learn about who inspired them and go listen to THEM. Pretty soon, we'll have a new generation of children listening to Led Zepplin, Guns and Roses, and all the other classics and it will come full circle. Either way, this band saved classic rock from dying out. These guys are no older than me, and they've don't that in just over 3 years.... it's just.. it's mind blowing.

They actually mentioned them in the past but I think they're either too tired of being compared or made it a running gag to leave LZ out. Also, they mainly grew up on the same music as LZ anyway, so why not sound similar in some regards? They still have some very original things to them, no matter what people say.

It reminds me of a STNG scene in which Captain Picard says he's really not much of an actor. It's such delicious irony because Patrick Stewart is such a highly regard veteran of Shakespeare in the round. He is a fabulous actor in general, too, and was so nonplussed when he spoke the line. I laughed so hard and the moment came back to me over and over for several days. It still does sometimes. So brilliant.

Hopefully Robert is flattered by the imitation, these boys were inspired by real rock legends, so they say, and Josh has the pipes for real, and Jacob has crazy guitar skills... they are truly a great rock band at their age.
He's almost certainly flattered. At the very least, he's pleased some hardy souls are carrying forward the greatest legacy in modern music. He's being coy and clever and playing with interviewer the way Monet played with light, and doing it all in a very short span. That's an absolutely fabulous interview that not only displays some of Plant's tertiary talents but also gives a lot of recognition to a deserving band. He doesn't seem ready to pass the torch just yet, but he is definitely shining some light.

I grew up on The Stones, The Who, and Zeppelin, and I think this band is the real deal. Whether they can sustain it is another story. Their greatest asset, being brothers, is also their biggest liability, plus the million other pitfalls that can derail a young band. But who cares. Right now they're great, and it's fun to watch them explode. I'm going to see them in Boston in July, and can't wait.
They aren't the teenage television stars of yesteryear. They're in the clear. This band is going to be around for many years to come. They individually seem to possess wherewithal and will more than likely not get "caught up" in the "stardom" that tends to happen...
We seen with Oasis with how brothers in a band can be...they got talent and sound great. I'm hoping they can churn something out more original, but even then, what they have now is better than a lot that's out there

Saw Greta live in 2018 or so. Had no idea who they were just went on a wim because the name of the band interested me. If you closed your eyes, you could swear it was Robert Plant singing. They sound just like their studio records. 10/10 probably the best sounding live band I’ve ever heard.

Led Zeppelin has been my favorite band since I was a kid. I cannot stand Greta van fleet. No originality (obviously) but also their songs suck, their lyrics suck, the little singer is corny as hell, the musicianship is extremely lacking. I don’t really understand who listens to this band. I'm a big Led Zep fan but I'm also a much bigger fan of Old School Rock and Roll. So when I heard GVF for the first time, it sparked a big hope for Rock and Roll to be alive again. Who cares if they sound alot like Led Zeppelin? I'll just think "hey, Led Zep's making a comeback again..but theyre more younger!". Just like Marc Martel, he was like Freddie Mercury resurrected and making some good music.

I just discovered GVF a few weeks ago and im happy that kids are idolizing correct musical greats. I'd rather listen to some classic songs repackaged with new folks rather than listen to the garbage thats being put out daily.

REALLY?! I actually had no idea. Well in that case it's a little stupid to be all bothered by them having transparent Led Zepplin influences when one of the other greatest bands in rock history started out as a cover band. And I know they aren't one, but their being treated like one, which isn't cool. I haven't heard them sing one Led Zepplin song yet ( which is actually criminal because they'd kill it)

If you studied the band...they despised the reference and changed gears. Doing this alienated the Led Zeppelin fans. They now sound unique

I’m not a die hard GVF fan, but I like there tunes, & it’s crazy how if you look up any of there videos, the comment sections are always 50/50 from people loving them or calling them Zepplin knock offs. If Robert Plant himself digs this band, then people need to relax & quit acting like LZ are mad at these guys for sounding similar. Just enjoy the 🎶 🎵 🎶
I love Zep and saw GVF in London recently.Great band,there is only one Zeppelin but Greta are making some great music and long may it continue.

Robert's always been funny. His personality and humor is exactly the same as in the 70s interviews (though Zeppelin rarely gave interviews in those days).

I think GVF do a really top job... I can hear where they sound like Zeps but I can hear their own sound and style too... and I think they shine. If the bands I was in sounded that good when I was their age I'd be very pleased.
Plant needs to be a comedian or have his own stand up TV comedy show. His long lasting sarcasm is hilarious especially when he jokingly says, "I hate him!" and "He's borrowed it from somebody he knows."

I think the thing to take away from this clip is that Robert Plant's answer to the question, "are there any up and coming bands you really rate?", was Greta Van Fleet. In British that means he thinks they're good, however as a member of a different band he's not allowed to say that he likes the competition. In other words, by saying that he hates GVF he's calling them competition which is literally the highest possible praise he could have given them. If he'd just gone ahead and said he liked them it would have come across as condescending.

The first time I heard GVF I instantly heard Zeplin. Then the next song I listened to I heard Rush. Then the next one I listened to I heard Jefferson Airplane. They really are an amazing band and just unique enough to be their own but familiar enough to be instant classics.

Music doesn't work that way, to be "Classic" first you have to be relevant, copying older styles doesn't make you relevant, but taking in all that has influenced you and producing something of your own from it does....Listen to "Ten" by Pearl Jam...that's instant classic, this is not....

you should listen to Eric Johnson and try to watch his guitar instructional video (the first one he did). He mentions in that video that its important to have influences (his being Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck and Chet Atkins), but its even more important to then find your own voice, which is what Eric did..

Some people criticize GVF for copying LZ too much. But they're not a cover band, a parody, or infringing copyrights. I'm just glad I can hear the LZ sound again without listening to a song I've heard over and over again my whole life.

yeah they 100% sound like Led Zeppelin, everyone knows it, but I don't see it as a bad thing. I'm happy to know that these kids will provide high quality live shows and content for their audience in the near future, keeping good music alive.

the whole point is that it doesn't sound like something new - it's pure copying and imitation... they copy literally pieces of Led zeppelin meat and build a chimera with a Latin accent out of it... yes, the vocalist cannot get rid of the accent... and his voice will not be able to reach Robert's voice even with the help of modern computer processing))) they're just copying incompetents - I can't create anything myself. just a fact.
It would be better if they were inspired by it instead of straight up imitating it. The newest record does a good job of this it seems like.

Robert Pant , they have my identity . It's been used to live out my life and a big important part of what's being stole is of Saginaw Michigan and a Paul Prince , I am aware of even the Black Panther in a Bike Trail lol... But really I'm not the only one who Michigan has blessed with the opportunity of being able to take my mother n law back to Flint Michigan and have closure and great memories of Flint Michigan and me of Saginaw Michigan too .
Gretta Van Fleet is from a small but very popular town and is strong town in the Political world for the State of Michigan especially .
I learned that from watching an interview with the band Gretta Van Fleet on a Radio Station and also learned that the guitarist and base player two guitars there are twin brothers yes pretty cool .
I've stayed as much as I can on them from time to time and even seen other music videos of them in shorts drinking Coffee too man , they seen something is what I'm getting at lol ...I want to say thank you but if anyone has ever heard that I don't like certain people because they like their own gender that's not true .
