I think we all forget that people have lived our lives twice over and that although they may seem “boring and not with the times”, but at one point they were just like us living in their present just as passionate about their time and culture as we are today, sometimes more so.

I hate that people call them a "rip off". They're making their own music with heavy influence from the 60's and 70's and especially Zeppelin.

Going to a Greta concert it was so refreshing to see a mix of people of all ages at their shows. it’s great.

I don’t think they are ripping off Led Zeppelin. The lead singer of Greta Van Fleet has an amazing voice. I’m a big Zeppelin fan in junior high & I have all their LP’s. I’m 68 & it makes me happy to hear younger group’s singing classic rock. 👏🏼👏🏼

And those who demand something original I don’t think realize that it’s not that simple because art is always influenced by another piece of art one way or another and it’s how you present yourself as an artist that makes it original and fresh.

GVF already is...I’ve never seen more older people excited about a young band.
They're huge, actually. In the last 10 years I haven't seen a band go from obscurity to full fledged recognition so quickly. I heard of the in like April last year and no one knew who they were...now Robert Plant brought them up in an interview within the last few days.
Check out Inhaler lol. They’re all 19-20 year olds but their audience is 90% 40+ year olds

The other thing. They aren’t a rip off. They are writing their own songs that especially of their new album, are different as well. Even on their old stuff, you can still tell the difference between their stuff. And even if you do think it’s the same, at least it’s more zeppelin I guess.

Last Saturday I went to a Metallica concert where Greta was an invited guest along with Cage the Elephant. I didn't heard of Greta before that concert, they were absolutely amazing.
I could tell which was Led Zeplin from Bonham's drums.

Turns out, voices are allowed to sound similar and bands are allowed to build their own sound with influence from other bands. What a concept.
Difference is there's a strong hard line between similar and your own. Even led zeppelin had strong influence from the blues and jazz, even covered the same songs, but yet sounded different infused with upcoming metal that they helped start
GVF has definitely changed their sound and their latest album, The Battle at Gardens Gate, shows that. They are going to go far in their careers and I believe that we should have more bands that are bringing back rock as a genre. Yes, they did sound a lot like led zep, but they are not rip-offs. Even Led Zeppelin wasn’t completely original. So instead of bashing GVF, why don’t we all just appreciate the fact that rock is slowly being revived?
As long as their music keeps taking me on little adventures in my mind, I will always love them hahaha

Just saw them at ACL and they were ridiculously good. The lead singer is damn mesmerizing performing. It sucks that great bands can't flourish or draw inspiration because nostalgia and couch critics will allow the past to forever haunt them. These kids are AMAZING. That voice is just a godsend. Were they heavily influenced by the greatest rock band ever? Of course. There is a very MAJOR reason you haven’t seen this before… because out of all the people born from 1940 through 2000…. Only 2 can sing like this. 🤷🏻♂️

They have the talent to go far & I look forward to listening to them repeatedly ( I always have and probably always will with pretty much all the established rock legends) Greta Van Fleet should be able to join that elite stable pretty soon if not immediately after all they've done the rounds and are clearly good enough .

Idk about the logistics or if it's already been done but now that GVF has Starcatcher and The Battle At Gardens Gate I really wanna see them all come back and listen again.
The best way to tell Greta from Led Zep isn’t comparing the singers, you gotta listen to the drums. Ain’t no one can touch Bonham

I watched GVF live at the Greek theater and he’s just as mind blowing in person. There was literally people of all ages there from small kids to 60+ year olds. Most amazing experience

7:58 Normally I would agree with Cat, and I don't completely disagree with her this time but they're not just riding on Led Zeppelin coat tails. How many kids these days listen to Led Zeppelin or even know about them if their parents arent into the band? They are not promoting or giving exposure to Led Zeppelin but rather the kind of music that Led Zeppelin produce, you just don't hear that kind of music nowadays and its good to keep it going because its awesome.

The story behind the singer's voice apparently was that when the band was jamming in their earlier days, the singer wasn't loud enough over the instruments. So he belted out and out came that the similar sounding Robert Plant yell. That yell is what insipred them to write the song "Highway Song."

I'm almost 65 and know my Zeppelin. I can listen to a Zeppelin song and tell you which side of the LP it's from. No way could I confuse them with Greta. But let me tell you, I freakin' love these guys. They've proven that rock isn't dead.
