Be patient with Tool, the payoff is always worth the wait! Also, the slower parts of their music, rather that be an intro or something mid-song, is an extremely important part of the experience!
Tool is one of the few bands I still listen to regularly from the 90s, and it's precisely because of their lack of immediacy. All the slow build ups, the interludes etc. they make those large explosive moments towards the end feel even more powerful, because you haven't been hit over the head with big, heavy, catchy riffs the entire song, so you haven't become numb to it. I've also found that it takes a certain amount of patience to listen to them, or even helps develop patience, which is needed in this day and age where people are so used to immediate gratification... you can get anything you want, any time you want at a click of a button, any show, any song etc. I find that with Tool, you learn to appreciate being in the moment, almost like a kind of meditation... They truly are the Pink Floyd of their generation.
Dude so true. Pink is a great comparison. Instrumentation is one thing but Maynard's lyrics are always what draws me to understanding him. ( like Pink also )
Tool is one of those bands you either love or don’t lol. For me they hit the perfect mid spot for soft metal and death metal. Hope that makes sense. They’re the best in mixing the soft and the Hard. Also get used to the buildups that’s their signature. Remember you only love the ending because they built it up that much ;)
I've been at a point in my life where I viewed these mass murderers, wars and other big killings like they are "happenings" or like I enjoyed watching other people's sufferings. When life gets boring, save and predictable, I for one looked out for the polar opposite; Unpredictable and dangerous "happenings" so I could regain the ability to value my own life again. I admit it.
Another interpretation/reason for the name Tool is the band thought it would be funny as fans buying Tool merch would be walking around wearing T-shirts like "tools." 😆
Yes the school bell ringing and the tings in the beginning of the song are played on the bell part of the cymbals. Every cymbal has a different tone especially on the bell part.
My TOOL recommendation for your next one would be The Grudge, but if you’re doing Rage reactions too only natural that you do Know You’re Enemy because it features Maynard from TOOL
How about some Deftones..... And some At the drive in....and some Nirvana... Tear for fears ...or many other bands..That would be a interest ....Music you never heard off would be very interesting.....
I think he's talking about violence in Media, real or fake, kind of weird that you shut her down when she had a totally valid point of view and you just talked about the songs being open to interpretation.
The big build up is the best part. Prolonged expectation of a release is THE point. You must re-listen to fall in love. Patience is key. RATM are far more immediate, but still great.
While I believe the song is about news and how we watch real person dies, I also think the point about serial killer shows at around 4:45 is a good idea too Like it's part of the meaning too, it's about the same thing, vicariously watching tragedy, but in a sort of soften version cause it's fictional / acted but based on very real events. Much like those true crime channels report to an extent, that never shows actual murder or tragedy but talk extensively about it and show interrogation footages (could even say the same about horror movie somehow I believe) It's all part of the desire to feed off from tragedy in different ways and at different levels
Danny Carrey plays his drums with a lot of angularity and syncopation. It's abstract drumming, not what you would hear in most bands. Please react to KATATONIA - Leaders (a Swedish prog-rock/metal band).
There was a Tool tee in the 90s with a spiral of thesaurus definitions of the name. It's all of the above. There's only a few words with like four or five contexts, "world" and "tool" are examples
as a nearly life-long tool fan, I kinda have to agree, "we don't need 6 minutes to do the buildup" lol.... regarding drums feeling "off" it's because they do a lot of nonstandard time signatures (how the beats line up and revolve around in patterns) - in addition to what's called polyrhythms and polymeters - where there are patterns of two (or more..) different time sequences (like one is 4/4 and one is 3/4 or 6/6 or whatever) being played together... these kind of things can make for what some would consider jarring and disjointed rhythms if you're not used to it. also regarding meaning of TOOL - I think someone already mentioned it in one of your other vids, but their early 90s merch literally had a wrench in a very phallic depiction. So it was definitely on their minds at least, whether in addition to other meanings or not, who knows! Google "90s tool wrench shirt" and you be the judge!
This song concerns the American obsession with the television, and “living vicariously" through television characters. It also touches upon the American obsession with violence in television, a very psychological view on how we as a culture tend to need to watch other people or things die in order to continue feeling good about our own lives, and how when a war occurs (The Iraq War) we tend the need to watch "While the whole world dies."
You like TOOL's drummer so much because he's probably the greatest drummer alive. It is not possible to draw up objective rankings in this regard, but regardless of preferences, one cannot but put Danny Carey in the very first places.
I got into tool a lot more when I was also moving, or running, while listening to them. Its a lot better when you can almost match their rithm with your body
Jody: I like it when they just rock out, and I want more. Why is there all the buildup? Amanda: I like it when there’s a buildup and the tempo varies. (I can’t be the only one that’s hearing this, right?)
Led zeppelin is called such because when the project was being put together from members of the Yardbirds and Robert Plant, members of The Who said it would go down like a lead balloon. Also go tool!
Keith Moon the drummer of The Who told the band members of Led Zeppelin that there band would go down like a led blimp. So they changed their name to Led Zeppelin.
Tool is like a long road trip or sex. the ride is half the fun. There's always a payoff in their songs. And you know it's coming, just don't know when. But when it does come, it very satisfying. Get it?
You know why it makes you feel weird? Because it’s played at a different rhythm and hrtz it’s tuned to what the earth vibrates at and they changed it in the early 1900’s or late 1800’s to manipulate you to be off from the natural rhythm God intended you to operate at!! Just my thoughts.
Tool intentionally makes their rhythms complicated. It’s in the DNA of the band. They often play different rhythms over top of each other that only ‘intersect’ periodically
If you look inside the CD of Lateralus to the one where you can actually see his brain, it says tool in his brain so they’re saying your brain is a tool,
Give it 2 more song until you guys become obsessed with this band lol tool is amazing just got to vibe with the songs let it take you on a ride you want harder tool listen to ticks and leaches or the grudge
You can't have the ending without the build-up. It wouldn't work. My dude, you gotta learn to enjoy the journey instead of always being antsy for the finish. Close your eyes, breathe, relax, and enjoy.
It's honestly painful to watch when people don't get it right away. As much as I get it because it's music and it doesn't just click for everyone but when there's a song like this and you see 2 people just sitting there like this is brutal. Like i said I get it, some of their songs are growers but when it clicks for you, it will just click. Keep listening.
Y’all need to do the pneuma Danny Carey drum cam so you can see how much of a genius Danny Carey really is! One of the best drummers of all time
That’s exactly what I was about to comment when I heard the comments at the beginning of the song 🎧
Studio version first!
@@PongGod Or after the live version. Either way, the studio version is a MUST listen.
Be patient with Tool, the payoff is always worth the wait! Also, the slower parts of their music, rather that be an intro or something mid-song, is an extremely important part of the experience!
Tool is one of the best metal bands of all time you need to listen to them more
The word "metal" is useless in this sentence!

Subscribed. Stoked to watch the Tool bomb explode. Literally anything you do you can’t go wrong. And commenting for the algorithm.
Danny (the drummer) plays in polyrhythms is why it may seem off to you. it's off, but not. He's a genius.
Most people’s ears are programmed to the 4/4 rhythm in mainstream music. Danny is de-programming us.
Tool is one of those bands you either love or don’t lol. For me they hit the perfect mid spot for soft metal and death metal. Hope that makes sense. They’re the best in mixing the soft and the Hard. Also get used to the buildups that’s their signature. Remember you only love the ending because they built it up that much ;)
If you want to hear heavier and shorter Tool songs, check out more of the earlier stuff. Anything from the Opiate EP, or Undertow album.
Danny Carey is the time signature, polyrhythmic, prog rock drumming legend.
The drummer is Danny (Octopus Arms) Carey. He has a popular 'drum cam' video. You should react to it.
Ok, you guys are getting into TOOL, I'm subscribing now!
This is beautiful percussive intro
She's getting it. Tool can be an acquired taste. ✌️
Danny Carey. Look him up. Guy is 60 and still killing those drums 🔥
The nice thing about you guys is that you don't overplay or exaggerate how much you like it just to get more views and subs.
She gets it, he doesn't..
you were both right, that sound is the drummer triggering the xylophone sample on a cymbal-like pad haha
Yes please let us witness your amazement as you watch Danny Carey, tool's drummer, in the drum cam performance of pneuma from vic firth live in Boston
I've been at a point in my life where I viewed these mass murderers, wars and other big killings like they are "happenings" or like I enjoyed watching other people's sufferings. I was one of them, haha

Music is a Tool that opens the mind to wonderful audio experiences. Tool excels at it. 🤟✌️
Tool is called Tool because they wanted to be a tool to educate, enlighten etc
My TOOL recommendation for your next one would be The Grudge, but if you’re doing Rage reactions too only natural that you do Know You’re Enemy because it features Maynard from TOOL
How about some Deftones..... And some At the drive in....and some Nirvana... Tear for fears ...or many other bands..That would be a interest ....Music you never heard off would

The news doesn't feed you reality, they feed you watered-down reality
I think he's talking about violence in Media, real or fake, kind of weird that you shut her down when she had a totally valid point of view and you just talked about the songs being open to interpretation.
1:23 The TOOL guys said "TOOL" is a reference to any and all meanings of the word.
It’s called poly rythem
FooL. It’s all a mirror. Get out while you can. It only gets deeper. And better. 😂🌀😂
The big build up is the best part. Prolonged expectation of a release is THE point. You must re-listen to fall in love. Patience is key. RATM are far more immediate, but still great.
YEEEESSS wonder who requested this.
PS Jody looking like Big Value Charles Manson
The way they MAKE you WANT it!

You should check out Prison Sex by Tool. That’s heavy and short and no guessing at what the song is about.
Great Reaction! Love you two! and also Tool is amazing! we also did some Tool , you guys rock! liked and subbed!

Global fixation on missing sub has entered the chat
Its living through other peoples eyes. News, celebrities, youtubers, etc...
the heavy parts can't be as heavy if you don't spend the time to build to them, if everything is heavy then nothing is heavy!
This. A lot of people - even a lot of bands - don’t understand the importance of dynamics.
You like TOOL's drummer so much because he's probably the greatest drummer alive. It is not possible to draw up objective rankings in this regard, but regardless of preferences, one cannot but put Danny Carey in the very first places.

Wow... Apparently Danny is off beat 😂😂😂😂
If you knew tool better, youd never question song length.
Tool is like a long road trip or sex. the ride is half the fun.
There's always a payoff in their songs.
And you know it's coming, just don't know when.
But when it does come, it very satisfying.
Get it?
Korn "blind (album version)", "faget", "daddy", "good god", "kill you", "Got the life", "cold"
Guitarists of Rage and Tool were in highschool together
Tool just hit diff. Best band itw.
🤘🏻🌀
Tool is a great one. Y'all gotta try third eye and Rosetta stoned from them as well.
Fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!,simply not from this world.
“i think i really like the drummer in this band.” lol the best drummer alive will do that to ya :)
LESSS GOOO
Actually Maynard himself did say that Tool is supposed to be whatever you need it to be, they were not talking about tools in a shed 🤣
Is short for Toolshed...
This is awesome ..
Tooool
I didn't know Jesus listened to tool
Does anyone feel like this song is the spiritual successor to Rush's 'Test for Echo'?
Yes, that's Danny hitting a cymbal precisely enough to sound like an alarm clock
He's the best drummer in the world. Only cause Neil Pert died though.
When did John wick start doing reaction videos?
Anything off undertow is as 4/4 you are gonna get with Tool
Try Crawl Away, prison sex, Bottom, Sober
All off undertow
CLM
Tool as an adjective
Not a noun
Go look up their original logo, album art.
There is no doubt that the band name is a double entendre.
Tool mannnn
You know why it makes you feel weird? Because it’s played at a different rhythm and hrtz it’s tuned to what the earth vibrates at and they changed it in the early 1900’s or late 1800’s to manipulate you to be off from the natural rhythm God intended you to operate at!!
Just my thoughts.
it's called the " Fibonacci sequence " learn it ..
with psychedelics XD
tool is click bait for people with good taste
Ænima next!
If you want heavier Tool you need to listen to their EP, Opiate. I would suggest Jerk Off...
Seems like she wears the pants
Tool intentionally makes their rhythms complicated. It’s in the DNA of the band.
They often play different rhythms over top of each other that only ‘intersect’ periodically
Definitely pneuma drum cam.
I promise you, dude. The drummer isn't "off beat". You're the one that can't keep up.
You gotta do Tool Lateralus title track and Especially The Grudge that whole album is incredible better than this💯
If you don't like variation in songs where the music is orchestrated to build and flux throughout its duration, you are not going to like this band.
You can't have the ending without the build-up. It wouldn't work. My dude, you gotta learn to enjoy the journey instead of always being antsy for the finish.
Close your eyes, breathe, relax, and enjoy.
Hah? Bro. Drink a micro brew. Get on your long board. Wear a Bernie or burn shirt and go for a ride. Yeah hipster know it all
When listening to a Tool song for the first time, always focus on the music. Leave the vocals for the next time
Sorry. To be clear.......I should have said "lyrics", not "vocals".
you guys will be remis if you don't listen to Lateralus ;)
The human attention span is in serious trouble.
I don't find their lyrics to be vague at all. Quite the opposite.
Your relationship is toxic and you’re both on different pages. End it now.
It's honestly painful to watch when people don't get it right away. As much as I get it because it's music and it doesn't just click for everyone but when there's a song like this and you see 2 people just sitting there like this is brutal. Music is a tool
Dude, you are the type of listener who only likes standard 4:4 short rock songs. We can all tell you dont get it. You liked the end, really?
Your boyfriend is a buzzkill 🙄
Bro's overanalyzing, separates the body from the mind imo
This chick gets it. The dude just seems dead inside 😆
Tool is simultaneously the most overrated and the most underrated band of all time. You heard it hear first.
