  • Looking for the most CUV legroom in America? Look no further than the 2020 Kia Telluride, the biggest, squarest Kia ever sold in America. How big is it? Well you'll find 8 inches more legroom overall in the Telluride than the Mazda CX-9 and 5 inches more than the enormous Chevy Traverse and even more than VW's popular Atlas. With pricing on par or below comparably equipped Honda Pilot or Toyota Highlander CUVs, the Telluride looks like the family friendly 3-row you've been waiting for. There's just one small hitch. Let's find out what that might be.

    Re: 2nd row seats. Yes, I know they tilt/slide forward. *BUT* if you re-watch that segment I'm talking about child seats. When a child seat is attached to teh 2nd row seat with LATCH anchors the seats will *not* tilt forward and the only action possible is to slide it forward. This applies to both the bench and captains chair options.

      @@ascsu98 If you're looking for a vehicle that will transport six or more passengers AND their luggage/gear for an extended trip, the Telluride should meet you minimum requirements. And do so better than just about any other midsize SUV. But its 21 cubic feet of cargo space, while large for a midsize crossover, is considerably less than the 33 or so cubic feet in the Sedona. As far as other features, the Telluride is almost certainly a more up-to-date choice.

    Alex, there are just a handful of superb car journalist's in America, who really "nail it" when it comes to giving, thorough, comparative, knowledgeable, " non-robotic reviews of the latest in Automobiles.
    THIS particular review was STELLAR , to say the least. I particularly like the positioning of the cameras, a s you drove, that gave a much more all around experience.
    To see YOU, AND the road ahead, and the side view, SHOWED that you put MUCH MORE THOUGHT into this review, than ANY of your peers. KUDOS to you, Sir!
    I hope that you're being paid well for the outstanding job that you do, each and every time.

    In 2010 I purchased a three-row 2011 Kia Sorento built in West Point, GA. After 9 years and 80K miles, I have come out of pocket for normal routine maintenance, one battery, and one windshield wiper blade. That's all! If this Telluride can be anywhere near as good a buying experience then count me in.

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 5 років тому +10

      I purchased a 2012 Sorento and after 80K miles mine was an identical experience. Led my wife and me to purchase the 2018 Sorento SX-L last year. I nearly had to pry my wife's cold dead fingers off the steering wheel of the 2012 vehicle but after a week it was the same story with the new one. Before the 2012 purchase I'd never even considered buying what I thought was Korean junk. I was SO wrong.

      Guys thank you for the comments! I would never consider Kia over a Honda or Toyota SUV. This review just sold me!!👍

    • @ThorNjord
      @ThorNjord 5 років тому +1

      tikimaka1 I thought like you did. Check out Consumer Reports: Kia reliability is very high. Honda is not what it used to be... @alex: the only thing missing in your videos is reliability info. Otherwise, you are tops!

    • @stephenhendricks103
      @stephenhendricks103 5 років тому +1

      @@ThorNjord Accurate reliability information about a particular model is extremely difficult to come by for several reasons. First, although Consumer Reports is probably the best single source through their annual owner surveys, even the thousands of responses they receive when divided among dozens of brands from multiple years may yield few reports about a particular model from a particular model year. CR does publish each brand's most and least reliable model but even that may be based on only a few reports. And while the CR surveys include reports from tens or hundreds of thousands of owners, the readership of Consumer Reports is not a random sample of the owners of any brand. That doesn't mean that owners of, say, Toyota's are more likely than Porsche's to under or over report problems but it may well mean that Toyota owners are more representative of that brand. There is simply no way to tell.
      Second, reliability naturally declines as a particular model ages and miles accumulate. Thus, a 2012 example of any vehicle is likely to be ranked as significantly less reliable than the 2018 version of the same vehicle. Furthermore, the best source of reliability data is undoubtedly the manufacturers, themselves. But that information is proprietary and closely guarded. Nevertheless, if a manufacturer detects a particular problem via reports from dealers and consumers, they are very likely to correct the issue in subsequent model years almost always without a public announcement unless a recall has been ordered. That also means that when a particular model is refreshed or redesigned a manufacturer is likely to take the opportunity to redesign any features that have been shown to exhibit an unusual number of problems. So even if, say, a 2010 Honda Civic sedan has a reliability problem, it doesn't mean a 2018 model will experience that same problem. In fact, the opposite may well be true. And is the failure of a component after seven years equal to a failure in a year old model? Doubtful.
      Third, the term "reliability," itself is complicated. Is a failure of a battery equal to that of a transmission? Obviously not, but while any owner is likely to report the latter, most (but not all) would call a dead battery simply a wear and tear issue that isn't an example of unreliability. CR asks respondents to report problems in various categories but it's not clear how those problems are weighted either in comparison to one another or in terms of seriousness, if at all.
      Finally and most importantly, there are some fairly stable differences among brands in terms of overall reliability with Toyota/Lexus products at the top. But the margin among brands has shrunk tremendously in the last few decades. Going by CR's rating scales, the margin between Toyota and the next five or six brands is very small, much smaller than it was even a decade ago. Want to know which brand/model encounters the most reliability problems? It's the brand/model that sells the most vehicles.
      Anyone who buys a new car can be relatively certain there will be no catastrophic failures in that vehicle over the average term of ownership. That's why virtually every manufacturer offers a three year warranty and others offer five or six year bumper-to-bumper warranties. Manufacturers can be sure that on average they won't lose money on those warranties. Drive train warranties are even longer, typically lasting for 100K miles. Why? Because drive trains almost never fail during the time a new car buyer owns a vehicle. Some brands today even make their warranties transferable to a second owner. Manufacturers offer longer warranties when they know there a reputation problem, typically one that hangs on far beyond the problems that resulted in that reputation. It doesn't mean the reputation applies to the model you see sitting in a new car showroom.

    This is an awesome review, first time I stumble upon this channel and it hit all the points that i was looking for. Currently shopping for a roomy 3rd row suv. Initially we were going to buy a Yukon xl or suburban, but they do not fit in our garage and would prefer to keep a 50k plus vehicle protected from the elements when not in use. I saw a video about the Atlas having more room than a Tahoe which i couldn’t believe so i had too look for myself. I was amazed by the space in the Atlas, nothing really “felt” as roomy and comfertable. We were about to purchase it and bam the Telluride starts hitting dealers and man this just made things harder. The telluride offers more tech and luxury features with similar space and almost equal price. Thanks for comparing them you made my choice that much easier.

Obviously, if I agree with those opinions, it's easy to take what is said directly knowing I will like the review. Finally, thanks Alex! Very well executed by Kia and as always your reviews are great! I wish eight seats were available on the SX, for the price it should be. In addition, it's time to go digital with the cockpit gauges. I'd definitely go all out SX - you can't beat the value and features. I like the Atlas, but reliability issues and their turbo engine concerns me over the long term.

    KIA if you see this, you have a potential new customer coming but if you can address my comments below I'll pay the difference.
    EX for my large family and I would pay for dual sunroof but it's not an option.
    SX if I could get second row bench but it's not an option.

    Wow ! Excellent review Alex. Very professional, articulate, and informative review. Yours are the best reviews I would say, after watching some of the competitors infomercials.
    I am getting ready to upgrade from our 2016 Sorento and am now a staunch Kia fan, after moving from BMW X5 50 ( fast twin turbo V8 , but always in the shop!) After 52,000 miles the Sorento has never been in the shop, other than for oil changes, and I am a picky ( my wife might say obsessive) Mechanical Engineer.
    My preference would be the SX but with 8 passenger seating, but it is not offered ! Only in the EX. Also, I need front sonar parking sensors, but it seems that I have to move up to the SX to get them. A big selling factor for me is the Auto Hold. I love this feature and am surprised that the competition doesn't offer it. So they lose my sale.
    Very interested in your review of Hyundai Palisade. I guess that it hasn't made it to the States yet?
    Once again......excellent job.

    I was amazed that Kia put the complete and I mean COMPLETE safety suite on all model trims. I applauded Toyota for supposedly putting it's full safety suite on all it's Highlanders in 2017 and Honda followed up a year later; but they and others continue to reserved a few of the most desirable safety features for their top model trims ever since. Way to go Kia. It's amazing how Kia found almost 7 extra inches of legroom than some of the biggest player in this segment. I really like the interiors of both the Telluride and Palisade.

  • @silentrefusal9911
    @silentrefusal9911 5 років тому +3

    Well done Kia, very very well done.
    This is how a truly serious attempt at getting into a segment looks like, not like Subaru's, who literally just pushed a longer Outback only to get themselves in the midsize 3 row SUVs competition.
    Honestly, it will be really sad if this vehicle didn't get a genuine success in the American market.

  • @MrChiefd23

    Thanks Alex for an excellent review, I've watched quite a few on this SUV. And I think your review covers a lot of what I've had to watch multiple videos to get, for that, thank you. I was previously set on the Traverse until I came across this vehicle. Your dollar goes a lot farther in the Telluride vs the Traverse in my opinion.

    • @wind7sailor
      @wind7sailor 5 років тому +1

      Also GM's long term reliability tends to be sub-par, no where near where Kia has elevated their's to. With the longer Kia warranty, it makes it tougher to stay with the GM Traverse over the Kia Telluride.
