@@B2359 Bummer, my dad had a 2007 Elantra he drove for 280K miles and only routine maintenance/fluid changes. Only got rid of it for a 2018 because the frame rusted out from underneath it. Sorry to hear about your bad experience! I have a 2020 Rio that is an absolute joy to drive so far.
The styling of the Telluride looks like a step above its class. It’s handsome, not fussy and the design should hold the test of time. On the other hand, The Highlander is handsome, but it doesn’t punch above its class. I also have a hard time with the rear 3/4 bumper view. It looks like someone backed in to it (or the driver backed in to something). It’s a deep crease that doesn’t do it any favors. It’s almost like Toyota built in the famous “Camry dent” in the rear bumper. The Palisade is also handsome but far more Asian looking. That will appeal to some buyers but the Telluride looks like it could be an American car (which, it is, both in design and build) which has a great appeal to the American buyer. Great review Alex. Keep them coming.
Also the Telluride is overpriced, the base models are going for 50k plus USD, and mid to top trim is in the 60k + ish. That's too much for this segment. It's MDX , RX 350 territory and this is definitely not there yet

I looked at one, most dealerships wanted $5,000 over sticker. Close to $50,000 grand, I bought a low mileage certified Audi Q7 for the same price. If you don’t need a huge SUV look at a certified luxury SUV for the same price as the Telluride SX trim but with a lot better customer service and loaner cars for service work.
I own a Telluride, and you are unfortunately incorrect regarding CarPlay not being fullscreen. There is a toggle in settings to eithe rsplit CarPlay or to make it fullscreen. Unfortunately, the default is split screen which IMHO is the wrong default. Please correct the video.
Highlander styling is too complicated in a bad way like GM tends to be. But the badge will make many sales. I like to combine legroom+Headroom+shoulder room to determine usable interior size. Makes decisions even more interesting....
OK. So just test drove a Telluride finally! I didn’t care for it…bummer. I’m looking for a boat-like SUV to just saw through the highway miles. Currently doing that with a RAV4 Prime, which I love, but it’s better suited for local driving. I need room. Most trips are family of 4 either going to and from my son’s school with all his hockey gear, or to visit family and with everyone in the RAV4 Prime, it feels a tad small, road noise is apparent above 65, and there just isn’t enough storage…was hoping the Telluride would fill that need, but it didn’t feel isolated/planted/luxurious enough. CAVEAT. I drove the LX trim, but from my reading, it still has the same glass as the SX trim (thermal/acoustic). Not sure the upper trims would change that aspect…the powertrain is great. Nice sound, responsive and plenty of gittyup…I just came away thinking I was better off getting a Chrysler Pacifica PHEV for less money, better mpg, and more useable space…
1:20 I agree with you on the Highlander, I’ve thought the same about the Nissan Pathfinder as well. I’d imagine legroom has a lot to do with this. Some models are getting longer and less upright.
Man you can’t say “but it’s a Hyundai” or “it’s still a Kia” anymore They are making some nice cars now especially this, the stinger, veloster n, Elantra n, sonata n, genesis and the k900, infact Hyundai and kias lineup is starting to be far more interesting and better than Nissan, Mitsubishi,Honda and Infinitis lineup Hyundai and Kia reliability isn’t bad either
I never considered Atlas to be a serious contender due to its sluggish engine performance in comparison but your other insights like child seat maneuver in 2nd row has changed my mind. I think between all, Sorento followed by Atlas seem to be quite good proposition. Waiting for Pathfinder's review now, since I heard its getting a 9 speed shift.
The Highlander does look like a Subaru and from half fender forward it has traits of a veloster.. The Sorento seems like a xse or TRD version of what the Highlander should have been.. The Telluride is just chic 😎👌
These things are so good looking for the mainstream segment. They have a premium vibe inside that you simply don’t get in something like the Pilot or Atlas. I looked at a very well equipped EX with Nightfall Package last night and retuned this morning and it was already sold. It’s crazy how well this is selling. Let’s hope they manage to improve on it as the years progress without messing it up (i.e. I had a 2006 Pilot and would have went for a newer model had Honda not cheapened the interior when it was a redesigned - the 3rd generation is better but too rounded and now looks just like a Minivan)
The ergonomics of the Telluride makes more sense than the VW Atlas as rear facing child seat are for about a year and if someone keeps the vehicle for 5 years kids are going to spend majority of that time front facing making the Telluride more practical
I gave up on it and got something else. Sure it's priced competitively in theory, but they still don't make anywhere near enough to satisfy demand. So the price difference is quite pronounced when you will be paying MSRP at best (top trims in my area are regularly several thousand above MSRP still), and you can still get the competitors for significantly off MSRP. And that's just the sale price, if you're financing it, the difference is even more pronounced because you won't find low APR manufacturer financing for that one any time soon. Still love it, but not enough to just ignore how expensive it is over the direct competition.
A truly remarkable vehicle. It's a bit too big for my needs. That's why God...I mean KIA...has given us the Sorento. Great review as always, Alex. Happy holidays.
I understand why most car companies don't offer the same range of motion and features on the passenger side of the vehicle, because precise positioning, and fatigue are not nearly as big a factor for the passenger, who has much more flexibility when it comes to where and how they sit (or recline). The seats are the same and offer the same basic level of comfort, but a passenger is usually able to find a good position without having to worry about getting the steering wheel, pedal placement, and proper view of the road that make positioning in the driver's seat much more important and less flexible for the driver.
I really like the telluride, for a while I thought I was going to buy one. However, I'm not a fan that the SX hasn't been upgraded to full lcd dash, I don't like the split moonroof and dealers here have them marked up crazily over MSRP. The sorento looks good but disappointed the top trim doesn't come with ambient lighting.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide I am so confused between mdx2022 and telluride and somehow like telluride engine and the punchiness. It will be helpful with a video comparing between telluride and mdx 2022
Thanks for a thorough review. I’m puzzled by the cargo room in all vehicles in this class. Using the third row compromises cargo room in the back greatly. If I’m hauling 6-7 humans, I will need much more cargo room than the little space that’s offered. Humans come with lots of stuff. That leaves the only option of going up to a Suburban or minivan.
We miss our Suburban with the 350cc, but the Tule might fill the void, 3rd row optional for the gkids, will appreciate the extra space vs the RX350. Looks like the Korean's are closing on Toyota products,
Put the V-6 from the Stinger in this with wider tires and I’ll write a check, even as a single bachelor. Though I do hate the taillights and headlights.
Buddy of mine just tried to buy one of these in NJ. The dealer wanted $5k over. On a Kia Telluride. I mean, it’s nice, but come on. He ended up with a Palisade and is happier.
Some of these dealers are taking advantage of the fact there are literally none of these to sell and demand is high. If any kia dealer wants over sticker don't even entertain them just walk out the door. The only reason why it's marked over sticker is because some joker actually will pay it! But the car is only worth whay we as consumers collectively agree to pay for it and that should be msrp!
Kia knocked it out out of the park with the Telluride. The only thing I would like to see is a tow haul mode added for towing. My opinion the best crossover on the market!
The Telluride is 0.4” longer than a Pilot, so the Telluride is a direct competitor to the Pilot. The Sorento is 7.5” shorter than the Pilot. You combined the sales of the telluride and the palisade for it to outsell the Pilot, which isn’t fair because since the launch of the passport, pilot sales have decreased so you should add the Pilot and the passport together and see how it stacks up against the Hyundai twins. ( Lexus also combines the sales of the RX and the RXL)
I'll stay with our 2020 Highlander Hybrid AWD model LE. Averaging 37 MPG in the winter and over 40 MPG in summer. Less maintenance as well, no belts to change, i.e. serpentine belt, 3 seats as well. I doubt if the Telluride can get anywhere near that MPG.
I can’t get over the palisade front end. Let me know is the comments below.. Also... Alex and the Dodge Durango shoe horned into yet another review. Classic.

How much two inches can make a or breaj a space. We saw a higherlander and wondered where the space was. Went to kia next and was blown and away and drove away like we stole it
I like the body styling of the Assent better than the Highlander. I think a comparison between the Assent and the Telluride would be interesting. I suspect the engine and transmission of the Telluride will be better. But I'm not sure about the rest. Wonder which has the better AWD system.
Alex, thanks for the great video. For me, I would like to see the amber tail light turn signal and the dashboard blind spot monitor like the Palisade that changes depending on which side is turned. Oh yeah, there should be another wheel color choice.
Agree w the preference for amber turn signals. But I prefer the Kia center blind spot monitor. I like my steering wheel set low, which usually blocks my view of the left and right dials.
I know this won’t be brought up in a press review, but after researching and comparing to the Pilot, Highlander and Ascent there’s a lot of alarming reviews. Apparently a lot of issues driving over 60mph where the drive shaft shakes. Not surprising since theyre rushing these out of the factory. Not a long term reliable. Also, if this is a completely new model it should have higher crash test ratings.
Not sure what you mean? It got the IIHS top Safety Pick with top marks in all crash test categories and overall 5 stars from NHTSA. Ratings are essentially the same as the Highlander which is also new.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide I did find complaints about this on the Car Complaints website. It seems to be only affecting the AWD models so far. It is too early to tell if it will be a widespread problem or if it is isolated to one factory at a certain time.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide The frontal crash has four stars. Don't you think that's sad for a completely new and designed SUV? Honda has this same rating, but it's been out for a few years. No excuse for Toyota, especially since the Subaru has 5/5. Also, what I mentioned was the complaints that are mentioned on the NHTSA website. After doing digging, and reaching out to a local friend who works at a dealership, this is a huge concern. As mentioned, it does seem to be impacting the AWD models but yikes. www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2021/KIA/TELLURIDE/SUV/FWD
I hate full black wheels too and looks like we have the same taste because I found the rear end of the palisade better than the telluride . But front end of the telluride is gorgeous
I don't mind the black wheels on the SX but I despise the black wheels on the Nightfall edition. More to my budget and arguably the best bang for the buck, I recently purchased a 2021 Telluride EX AWD in Everlasting Silver and Black Leather interior that has the much nicer 20" machine faced wheels that compliment the chrome and satin accents.
First of all, I'm a fan of your reviews. Thank you for all of intelligence. Also I'm a huge fan of Hyundai automobiles since 2007, with the first ever Korean vehicle I have the Sonata. Since then, I never looked at any other brands anymore. I agree with you about the front of Telluride and the rear of Palisade will be perfect designing, but I like the Palisade's interior more than Telluride. Anyway, I don't think Toyota highlander hybrid is fitting for compared with Kia Telluride or Hyundai Palisade. So, please don't mixed it up and confused the followers. It's just only my opinion.
Prefer the looks of the 2021 Sorento to the Telluride. The Telluride is a little . . . well, to quote Sheldon from BBT, Brobdingnagian. Oy, that is big! - Haven't seen a Palisade in the 'flesh' as of yet.
Great review! I realize I’m in the minority, but I prefer the Palisade for essentially two reasons: 1) I really like the smart blind-spot cameras that come on in the dash where the tach and speedometer rest when the turn signal is activated; and 2) I like the Palisade center console with underneath storage. Admittedly, the Telluride exterior definitely looks better. If the Kia had these two features, I’d buy the Telluride. For now, the Palisade in white and loaded is my choice.
Kia, telluride We just ordered a 2021 Kia Telluride today a at local dealership and we PAID STICKER. Every other dealership was ask 6-7k over and people were standing in line to buy them at those dealership. The dealership where we bought ours also add a lifetime warranty on the Telluride for NO CHARGE. The only bad thing is a four to six month wait when you order it. Corwin Kia, Springfield, MO check them out for yourself. Talk to Tater yes Tater and Tell them Mark and Dardi sent you. But if you don’t want to then don’t we are not getting any special deal if you do use our name. I told tater I was going to spread the word and I want him to know I did. You just pay Sticker.I want them to get your business because they say we are going to be fair to are customers. Where the next closes dealership with it higher sticker price had a rep from Kia who told us that all local dealers are asking above sticker and people are paying it but he did not mention Corwin Kia.
And @21:00 you say that the telluride has the largest cargo area behind the 3rd row of any crossover, and I’m pretty sure the Traverse (and the enclave) have 2 more cubic feet.
Traverse doesn't sell nearly as well. 112.9 inches is where the Chevy comes in, 5 less than Telluride or Palisade. The Traverse does have 23 cu ft of cargo room, but the two companies are using different standards of measurement it seems. Kia is not including what's under the load floor, chevy is. Chevy does have more room under the floor but that basically makes the careo area in Telluride, Palisade, Traverse and Atlas around the same size.
Well I don't like the new Sorento or the Santafe designs. Personally, I'd prefer if Hyundai/Kia decided fully commit to make one the sleek elegant model(Mazda CX9 like) and one the rugged style(Jeep Cherokee like). They both look like the design team and marketing team got into a conference room and made compromises.
Oversized. I really want to know why 23s or 24s are necessary and why people have the nerve to sometimes swap those out for 1000-spoke 26s. It's incredibly stupid. Black is just a color.
I love your reviews, some of the best you can find. On paper and during a test drive, the Telluride (and Palisade) are best buys. What no one talks about is the $10,000 mark-up (market adjustment cost) that most if not all Kia (and Hyundai) dealers are charging. This has been the case for the 2020 and now on the 2021. So for 2021, the Telluride does NOT start just under $32,000 but it starts at $42,000. An EX with AWD and a couple of other things will set you back $50,000 while the SX will be over $55,000. And while the Telluride is a great car, the day has not come where I am personally willing to pay almost $60,000 for a Kia. At this price you can get a gently used Bmw X7 , Merc GLS, or Lexus LX. At what point did Kia made it there? Again, on paper they are no brainers, but the reality of their price is a bit different which you should mention in your pricing review. And KIA is smart for producing them in low volume, making it seem like they fly off the dealer lots, and making people want them even more.
@@naveenthemachine It's not because of the brand. I've seen Honda and Toyota USA pull the same thing where they mark up the price of their cars over MSRP considerably. That rarely happens in Canada though.

Yes get out from the rock you've been under. Kia/Hyundai have been skyrocketing in their reliability while everyone else seems to have stagnated (except toyota).
💩💩💩💩💩ride
I need an AoA mug that says "Red turn signals, not my preference."
www.aoamerch.com/product-page/save-the-amber-lamps
What's wrong with red turn signals? I actually prefer them since they blend in well with the taillights, which are always red.
@@CumBrianFries that's exactly what's wrong with them. They "blend in well", therefore making them ineffective as a way to indicate turning.
@@BeyondLumination I see, but they're still flashing while you're indicating though. I've never had any issues driving behind cars with red turn signals, could always tell when they're about to change lanes. lol
@@CumBrianFries For me personally, I don't mind if cars have red turn signals. The only requirement I need from cars that do have them is for them to be their own bulb and not double as the brake lights.
I own a SX AWD since May 2019. I 👍 💘 it. I still like watching reviews.
On the top end trims they need to allow for three seat bench in the second row
totally agree....canadian versions of the sx get second row bench and 20' POLISHED WHEELS!!!
Thank you, thank you for the towing review! Most reviews just say the capacity, but don't actually give anything beyond that....
I totally agree that the top trim should offer a non-black option for the wheels
Highlander styling is too complicated in a bad way like GM tends to be. But the badge will make many sales. I like to combine legroom+Headroom+shoulder room to determine usable interior size. Makes decisions even more interesting....
Also factor in the bench length. Not sure about Koreans, but Japanese brands have been known to shrink the bench for better legroom numbers.
6.4 and loving the longer driver seat, how about you.
Man you can’t say “but it’s a Hyundai” or “it’s still a Kia” anymore
They are making some nice cars now especially this, the stinger, veloster n, Elantra n, sonata n, genesis and the k900, infact Hyundai and kias lineup is starting to be far more interesting and better than Nissan, Mitsubishi,Honda and Infinitis lineup
Hyundai and Kia reliability isn’t bad either
Hyundai sales person alert
Warranty is solid too
@Jonathan A yea but the recall was for 2011-2015 models....
imo Nissan and Honda are completely boring now. In terms of mainstream cars anyway - SoKo is where it's at
@Jonathan A source? I have a 2017 kia sportage and I didn't get any recall notice. and btw i had zero issues with car so far.
22:20 “Fuel economy has never really been Kia’s forte...” I love how you do that in almost every Kia video.
The horse isn't quite dead....
But they have kia forte.. 😂😂
The Highlander does look like a Subaru and from half fender forward it has traits of a veloster.. The Sorento seems like a xse or TRD version of what the Highlander should have been.. The Telluride is just chic 😎👌
Love my 2021 Telluride.
KIA simply nailed it. Love all the standard features that most brands should emulate.
Also, reliability of the Atlas (and every other VW) is horrible.
This might be the most comprehensive review I've ever seen.. Of anything. Thanks!
Kia did an amazing job with this vehicle
Anyone remember the highlander review were Alex’s pants matched with the seat?
I gave up on it and got something else. Sure it's priced competitively in theory, but they still don't make anywhere near enough to satisfy demand. So the price difference is quite pronounced when you will be paying MSRP at best (top trims in my area are regularly several thousand above MSRP still), and you can still get the competitors for significantly off MSRP. And that's just the sale price, if you're financing it, the difference is even more pronounced because you won't find low APR manufacturer financing for that one any time soon. Still love it, but not enough to just ignore how expensive it is over the direct competition.
Simple smart styling inside and out, it should age gracefully.
A truly remarkable vehicle. It's a bit too big for my needs. That's why God...I mean KIA...has given us the Sorento. Great review as always, Alex. Happy holidays.
Too bad the newest Sorento has NO MEMORY seats and the hybrid isn't available with AWD...
@@shelisasimmonds817 2022 Sorento does have memory, if you need AWD go with the PHEV
I would hazard a guess that 2022 might bring a few more tweaks.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide I am so confused between mdx2022 and telluride and somehow like telluride engine and the punchiness. It will be helpful with a video comparing between telluride and mdx 2022
Why don't you compare it to the Traverse and Explorer?
Made in Georgia!!
I love the black wheels.
me too plus it won't look dirty as much...
This and the hyundai cousin are realy good. 80% of a mercedes for 40% money
With double the warranty.
More reliability as well. Perhaps not as much as some older Toyotas but for the things this offers for that price, how could I pass it up?
Also more standard features...
Best reviews on UA-cam. Thank you!
I’m with you on the black wheels. I hate, hate them.
I still see no one yet dethroning the Telluride. We'll see if the coming Pathfinder can take it down.
2022 Pilot/MDX might have a better chance, but by then the 2023 Telluride and Palisade will be refreshed...
I like the black wheels- getting a Black one, with the SX Prestige and Nightfall packages. I can't wait!
Wowow -- you reallllly do a GREAT job on your videos with great and easy-to-follow stats. Thanks!
The traverse has 23 cubic feet behind the 3rd row, if I'm not mistaken.
You're right, but try fitting that in your standard home garage.
@@chiemekaa With 4 kids I barely have room for all the bikes in my garage. I'd at least like to fit everyone + luggage inside the same vehicle.

I agree. Hopefully H/K can give us a Smartstream 2.0t version of the 2.5t.
Agreed!
I fully agree with you. I dislike the black wheel trend
I can’t get over the palisade front end. Let me know is the comments below.. Also... Alex and the Dodge Durango shoe horned into yet another review. Classic.

How much two inches can make a or breaj a space. We saw a higherlander and wondered where the space was. Went to kia next and was blown and away and drove away like we stole it
Any concerns about long-term carbon buildup on the Telluride's GDI engine?
Great SUV! I wish Kia would offer the top trim with a second row bench option.
I like the body styling of the Assent better than the Highlander. I think a comparison between the Assent and the Telluride would be interesting. I suspect the engine and transmission of the Telluride will be better. But I'm not sure about the rest. Wonder which has the better AWD system.
Let me guess the cabin noise.. 70db? Alex, there is smth going on with your testing, how come all cars have 69 71 db noise in cabin?

Any idea how it compares to XC90 especially with regards to 3rd row space and cargo with 3rd row occupied . Thanks
Any chance you could compare the Telluride to the GV80?
Love your videos!
8:11 that package shot makes me uncomfortable.
lol
The old moose knuckle.
So it has a cargo area cover, but captains chairs in the 2nd row? Seems kinda dumb if you can see into the cargo area from the forward windows.
Prefer the looks of the 2021 Sorento to the Telluride. The Telluride is a little . . . well, to quote Sheldon from BBT, Brobdingnagian. Oy, that is big!
- Haven't seen a Palisade in the 'flesh' as of yet.
Black wheels look like a base model.
Am I old school because I prefer the analog gauges? Not a huge fan of the full LCD displays.
Front grille looks hideous IMO
The Telluride does the turn signal cameras now. It didn't for the first year, but does now.
Kia, telluride
We just ordered a 2021 Kia Telluride today a at local dealership and we PAID STICKER.
Why would you not include the traverse in the comparisons for things like combined legroom?
I wasn’t aware the new Sorento’s design is polarizing. Hmm...
Agreed. I haven’t heard any real “zonks” when it comes to the exterior of the new Sorento.
@@SirT80 But it's all about the twinkie storage...
@@OlJackBurton hahaha and the half foot long and can of sprite to wash it down
Well I don't like the new Sorento or the Santafe designs. Personally, I'd prefer if Hyundai/Kia decided fully commit to make one the sleek elegant model(Mazda CX9 like) and one the rugged style(Jeep Cherokee like). They both look like the design team and marketing team got into a conference room and made compromises.
Reminds me of the old square body Honda Pilot.
What’s the worse wheel trend? Black wheels or massively oversized wheels?
Oversized. I really want to know why 23s or 24s are necessary and why people have the nerve to sometimes swap those out for 1000-spoke 26s. It's incredibly stupid. Black is just a color.
Black wheels AND massively oversized wheels!
according to official websites, toyota highlander has more cargo space behind 2nd row ...?
I could be wrong, but black rims wouldn't show road dirt & grime as much compared to chrome/silver-colored.
The Toyota seems like a better deal now...
Sounds more like dealership mark up than "market adjustment cost". I've heard American dealerships are particularly notorious for pulling such stunts.
@@ShafinRehman what the Americans brands do is price it at a high MSRP and then offer deep discounts off the MSRP.
So people paying 10k over msrp? That sad . I dont care how good looking the car is, I am not paying that
@@naveenthemachine It's not because of the brand. I've seen Honda and Toyota USA pull the same thing where they mark up the price of their cars over MSRP considerably. That rarely happens in Canada though.
This is such a nice car, I really want them to put a next gen electric powertrain in future models.
This car looks soo clean and good
Thank you for the in depth review. Planning on getting a white one and a can of spray paint to change the color of those black wheels.
Wow, incredibly informative video. Nicely done.
Combined legroom in the Subaru Ascent is 112.5" in case you were interested. About 5" less than the Telluride.
I guess nobody cares about the Ascent the ugliest Subaru there is.
