After airing this video-I learned that the technique I use in this video (the part where I cut the X with scissors) may or may not be Karin Hellaby's scissor technique. I cannot confirm 100%. If it is her technique then I want to make sure I give her full credit for that part of the video✅

We LOVE your channel! Pretty much watched all of your videos 🤗👍❤️
I've always wanted to try this block pattern. Thanks to you and making it easy, I definitely make one. Thank you
I have been making veterans’ lap quilts with this technique. Love how they turn out.
It's genius 🙌 There's no reason why you couldn't do multiple blocks to a manageable size each, then do a QAYG technique and have a four patch or nine patch etc. Have the same focal first square and change the rest to mix it up and use your stash. It would then be easier to both quilt and manage the bigger size issue. Especially if like me the floor is not an option
It turned out way better than I thought it would Anita💙Have a happy quilting week💙
Yes Anita! I have made beautiful pot holders and table runners with this method.Just finished a blanket with 6 inch blocks.
I did your idea with my blocks around 24”” sq, QAUG 3X4 rows with 2 1/2” sashing then finished with a QAUG attached border. It looks great and was very fun.
It's a game changer 😂😂 They look so good!!
WAYG ? English please 😮💨

This is FABULOUS Tracy 🥰 Absolutely love it 🥰 And if anyone comments on the ‘points’ then they don’t deserve this quilt!!! Thanks for sharing 👍 🇬🇧
You’re absolutely right about the points Glynis✅💙
Absolutely correct, it's a design feature not a flaw!
I loved it! You are so very smart!
I love that quilt
That is really neat! I like that idea but have nowhere to do that. Love it!
Thank you! 😊
You are amazing!! I love this block. Thank you.
You are so welcome!💛
❤ Brilliant!! Deffinately inspiring!
Tracie, I'm thinking about your arthritic hands and something you may want to try with this block. Draw the X on your fabric first and fold the square into a triangle and where the X intersects cut a slight snip in the fabric at the X. Then put your fabrics right sides together, sew a 1/4" seam allowance all the way around the square. You will have that little slit premade and you won't have to use a seam ripper anymore and you won't have to worry about possibly poking into the layer below or ripping your opening wonky. Give it a try, I think you may find it helpful for you. ❤❤
Great idea!!!
@@TheSewingChannel Thank you. I actually tried it awhile back making that little snip into the fabric when it's folded into a triangle then flaten it back out. It works for me. I've actually made many of these now and I make them several sizes, like you said, pot holders, placemats, table runners, all kinds of things. It's a great hack. Please keep sharing, I learn so much from you! ❤❤
Genius!!! I love it!!! What a great idea!!!
Fast and fun quilt!☑️
I love this idea, my kind of block ❤️😁
Glad it was helpful Susan!💙

So cool!
This is a fun one too Pamela💙
** Tip**. Cut a tiny slit in your fabric BEFORE you sew it to your block...makes it a lot easier to cut once its been sewn. TY for your beautiful tutorial. I make these on a smaller scale for mug mats, pot holders etc. Cheers from stinking HOT Florida 🙂
Great idea Robina✅ Cheers from semi hot/cool north east Ohio LOL✅💛
Arthritis….? Yup me too but we don’t stop or give up. Awesome pattern.
We will never give up💙
Wow, that looks so easy for a novice like me, thank you! I may try this as a rag quilt. What a perfect project using thrifted sheets and scraps to practice on.
Great idea using sheets Nancy✅
I absolutely love love love this way of making a quick and beautiful quilt!
This is super easy too Glenda💙
Nice table topper pattern
Another great idea Mary!!! Thank you!💙
All thought this block is very interesting and I definitely want to make it, I myself would stop at 11 + size and make several blocks at that size and add sashing in between the blocks. But that is my choice. You did a great job on yours and I appreciate you taking the time to share this
Great ideas Wanda✅
i made this a few months ago, i love it
I loved trying this. Decided to turn mine into a duvet cover. Made 4x4 blocks. Looks fabulous. Thank you for this tutorial. 😘😘🤩🤩
Wonderful!💛
I love this & will definitely try ❤❤❤
Love and I'm gonna try it
Love this technique! I tried this a few years ago but never to make a complete quilt top. This would make a darling baby quilt or even a really fast quilt to use to decorate for the holidays. Great tip on the seam ripper to get it started. Thanks, Tracy! ❤️❤️❤️
It's a fast make for sure Kris!!!!!💙 Great idea for a quick holiday quilt✅
love the holiday idea
Amazing! Thank you!
Looks great
How fun is this!! You make it very do-able, thank you.
You are so welcome!💙
Awesome 🤩. I make a lot of charity quilts, most definitely going to try this. Appreciate your time and talents
This would make a fast charity quilt for sure!!! Great idea Peggers💙
This is brilliant! I’ve got a bunch of pirate themed fat quarters and I think I have just found the project for them 👍
awesome🏴☠️✅
Gee, I’ve never seen this technique before.
The quilters’ creativity never fails to amaze !!!
Thank you for sharing ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it Gigi!!!💙
I have made three throw sized quilts using this technique but I kept the blocks small. Once assembled, it resembled a pineapple quilt. Such a fun pattern! Thanks for showing a different variation. I love it!
You're welcome Janice!💙Have a great quilting week!
Definitely on my to do list
Awesome Kathy!!!🎊
Oh my goodness this something I my try🥰🥰🥰🥰
Awesome Pam!!🎊
Great technique, I can now make my first quilt. I have been looking at a lot of quilting videos but this one looks to be very easy and safe. Thank you, thank you!
Safe, fast & fun! Perfect confidence builder quilt for you Glo💙✅
A quick suggestion. Try putting a stitch through the center square and through each subsequent square. Then you have threads to help you pull the squares apart before cutting.
That's a great idea!
I'm impressed 👍
💛
GreT idea
Thank you Giselle💙
I just have to try this, love it 😀
You absolutely should!✅
Love this idea! I have been wanting to try the economy block for quite awhile. Thanks for a great demonstration!
Awesome Brenna! This is a fun one!💙
I thought it was the exploding block? Does it have two names?
Quilt blocks take on several different names over time 🤷🏻♀️ some even call this “the economy block”✅
Such talent!!
Thank you for supporting my channel Jonnie💛
I viewed this method in a sewing hack video not very long ago. On one of my visits to her shop, I told my friend Janet about it; and, she decided to give it a try while I was sitting with her. It worked beautifully for her. You don't notice that the points are not there. As you just showed us, this is a fast way to make a beautiful quilt top. Thank you.
I was amazed how well it worked for a whole quilt top Arvetta....and soooo fast too!!!💙
I often wondered how a quilt like this would look if I carried ion to the size square needed. Thank you!
I love it! I want to try it! Love the nautical theme!
You should definitely try this one LuAnn💙⚓️
WOW! That was awesome 😊
Thanks! 😊
I watched the video last night. I had to try this out as soon as I got up this morning. It is so much fun!
Awesome Barbara! It's so much fun to create!!!🎊
What a great way to make a child’s quilt!
It sure is Karen💙
I love it! I will try it.
Have fun with it Dorothy💙
Wow😄 Genius! 😍
💛💙💛
That is so cool!😊
That is a great technique and because of all the layers you didn’t need batting. You truly are a Master Quilter! Thank you for sharing!
You are so kind Christine....thank you💙
Wow, I love that!
So easy too Heidi✅
I'm so glad to hear when you say some things are hard because of your arthritis! I have a tough time with a lot of seemingly simple actions in quilting and sewing. Lifting rulers, separating layers, picking up pins! I wondered why. Now I know.
Awesome technique sis!!🤗🥰
I'm keeping way too busy LOL😆
Tip to do this easier:
First: draw the cross on the square to be cut.
Second: cut 1/2 way from the center toward corners only on one diagonal, not both.
Third: sew the two pieces together as in video.
Forth: complete cutting on diagonals as in video. But the cutting will be much easier since there is a hole now to insert the scissors.
Repeat the steps as in video to achieve the desired size.
Hope you find this useful.
Thank you for the tips✅
I do it the same way. I find it much easier
I love it. I want to make one
Go for it Linda!!! It's a FAST make!💙
I love this quilt technique. Thank you. Love all of your videos. You make quilting fun.
Awe...thank you for supporting my channel Joan! I appreciate all the kind feedback!💙
Such a really cool quick quilt!😃. I can’t wait to try one🤗. I think it would really be a great scrap buster, maybe stop at 12-14” size and just make a bunch of blocks to join together 😏. Thanks for yet another terrific idea🤩
Linda- Great idea to connect a bunch of these blocks together✅💙
Very nice quilt. Love that you shared the technique to the larger size. I think it would be fun to do because you do not need to do the math to cut those triangles. Thank you.
Great thinking Evelyn...I hadn't thought about the math...but yep there is none with this quilt for sure! I HATE math! or it HATES me LOL!
Hey Tracey, rewatching & wondering how an allover print would work your fake piecing quilt. Like this technique for a fast quilt.
I think that would work....give it go Joy!!🎊
I would love to make this quilt for a boys bed. Or even a teen or baby. Looks like it would go fast. Thanks
Great idea!!!
Wow such a great idea! Go big or go home! Thank you for sharing.
Gonna try this soon, lots of charity quilting to do.
Yvonne - will make a perfect charity quilt ✅💙
Yes I will try it.
Great!
Love the technique it's amazing. A very good watch in deed. I have subscribed thank you
Awesome, thank you! Welcome to The Sewing Channel Ange💛
Looks great! I have 10 sewing machines and 2 sergers. Sewing has been my passion since I was about 4 years old. Love your videos and always look forward to the next one❤️
How fun. I like this
Glad you enjoyed it Vicki💙
I made a quilt using this technique but made 12" blocks, not the whole quilt as one block. I like yours very much. Think I will try it.
Go for it Jan! It's a quick make!💙
That was insanely brilliant! Going to def have a go tomorrow! Thanks for showing us. Can I ask how these design boards work? Pinned on? Thanks 👍
❤️ Some call this an exploding square block. I love making these. I find pulling the layers apart with my fingers is easy and doesn’t risk damaging the fabric. IMO it qualifies as patchwork, although techniques are slightly different from more usual styles of patchwork. I thought about going big, but haven’t done it. Maybe soon. Smaller blocks joined together make interesting secondary patterns.
I made a sweet quilt top using this method and The Cottage Mommas fabric. I used Karin Hollaby's book Sew Simple Pineapple. She gave a great presentation on the UK's Sewing Quarter show so I searched for the book here in the US. It's still a WIP because I haven't quilted it yet.
Noemi- I will have to check out the pineapple method✅
I love it!! 💖
That quilt looks so cute. 😁💐
Thank you so much Darleen💙
I have done this. Learned in a quilting retreat. I do mark prior to sewing and put a small slice in center before sewing. Made a bunch of squares the smae so chain piecing. So much fun. I would love to make this large verion. Its now on the list.
Awesome!!! It seemed to go together very quickly too💙
