Small military base shared by the Azores and the US. Great refueling spot famous for its cross winds. My wife spend 15 months there and I was able to visit her while she was there. Very hilly and the inside of the blue and white church is amazing. Lost my wife in Aug of this year and I have been catching up on your videos in the evening. It has been good catching up to what you have been up to and it has also been a great way to let my mind take a break from missing her. Much love to both of you and thanks for dragging the rest of us along on your adventures!
Great show as always and nice haircut. But my favorite part every week is seeing Adam jump off the boat in the intro. Reminds me of the Man Cub, Mowgli in Jungle Book.
Pilot whales seems to be a popular go to for any large dark blunt faced dolphin.......from what little we see of these they definitely do not exhibit the broad dorsal fin particular to either species of pilot whale. They could be a number of species most likely candidate considering your brief description and footage would be False Killer Whales = dark grey-black, 4-6m in length, fine sickle shaped dorsal fin, narrow tapering head (no rostrum). Great encounter, they can be quite social, I have been luck enough to have them bow ride a couple of times.
they say the Azores are 8 islands plus an attraction park. Terceira is known for its parties all year round and a really good and famous jazz festival.
Oh Boy, a New video of yours for Dinner tonight, well in forty five minutes that is.!!! 😎👍✅ That was all pretty funny..😂🤣 We were wondering at. 14:30 Did you bring your “Hair Cut Records” With you on this trip ..?? 🤔🤷🏻♂️
yup - long finned pilots whales most likely. You are living your best lives! Keep going! (PS - Fear not! Orca's won't attack your wind wane - you're 2 awesome! ;)
hi Adam and Kiahra congratulations. I see you are improving your Portuguese.👍👍👍 in fact the whales you saw could be orcas. they also pass there. the last time I went whale watching we saw nine different species of whales. I wish you a great stay in the Azores. continue with your good disposition.
I chose to do my first solo sail in drizzle and muck in my 25 footer so I totally understand the psychology you're expressing about "just getting out there". And I too would have been racing to the stern to lift the windvane rudder out of the water in case those were orcas.
I thought, I had seen both of you in Ponta Delgada on the 21st, but from the video, the weather on Faial, I had very good weather this week and the local told me the day previous of my arrival there was a lot of rain, so I am guessing it's that one in the video. I am in Angra today, leaving tomorrow back to mainland Portugal, visit it on the other side of the Atlantic.
Good afternoon Khiara and Adam, quick question on underwater maintenance. How often do you have to clean the hull of barnacles and other marine growth and how often do you have to replace the zinc's please? When I worked on the waterfront it was usually 12 months, is it the same with you?
Porpoise - bottle nose, snuffer or grampus in English, in today's formal Dutch is called "bruinvis" (we know it's not a "fish"), but its popular name would have been "varkenvis" - "pig fish" - because of the taste of its meat. So if you bump into a Dutch person with the family name "Varkenvisser" (pig fisher) then you now know they weren't actually fishing for pigs.
Terciera, Terciera.... You guys are like a couple of goofy college kids who'd spent their summer in Spain and then repeat BarTHAlona so many times their housemates have to tie gags on them (or soon they'll be saying "I'm thirsty, I sure would like some Than-Grrrri-ha!). I do appreciate knowing where you are, too often cruisers don't get around to mentioning where the heck they are. (Us sea kayakers are however, the absolute worse. We'll write whole articles about paddling out to "Black Rock" or .... White Rock" or Little Bay, without ever mentioning what continent or ocean we're on.) Now, I'll never forget Terciera. It is even more hilarious Adam has so much trouble pronouncing it when he's been sailing with Khiara - how long did it take for him to get that right?
Does anyone know what controls whether cc is available for any given video? It seems random. My hearing is not great and I miss a lot of the dialog without it. Anyway keep up the good work!
Do you know what does it means "TERCEIRA" ? It is the third. The third island for example. I have ancestors who came from this island to Brazil, from my mother's side, about the year 1700.

This series ought to be sold to Swedish tv. It’s a hit!
You two youngsters are learning at pretty fast pace. I enjoy the way you react to challenges. Your attitudes are spot on.
That little blooper at the end was very funny.
You two have such a wonderful relationship full of play and joy. Well done.
Khiara’s laugh is so endearing. You guys are the best. Cheers and fair winds.

If you want to see pilot whales, try episode #17- of the Sailing Frenchman, where he sees a huge school, rather close up lol

Are you in the med yet, thought you would have been their by June, your missing the awesome weather
Pilot Whales I think. Had them approach us off the coast of New Jersey, US. I was thinking Orca as well at first lol
Any plans to pop into the UK ? You’d be most welcome..
Bracing stuff, super.
yup - long finned pilots whales most likely. You are living your best lives! Keep going!

East coast of Spain and the entrance of the Med are the spots where orcas attack sv...its a hot item now!!!
Love the ending dub over 😂

that engine noise at 11:45, i wouldnt be able to stay awake
5:01 Personnally I prefer to sail at night, i feel like i optimize my time by doing the mileage at night!

o I'm not the first with that comment :) Lovely episode again. What is your sail plan in Europe?

My thought too.
nothing wrong with a little Cheeze cuz that was kinda cheezy... lol
Pilot whales for sure. I'm surprised you never saw any in the Caribbean.

What in the world is the thing labeled 'Water Fun' at 13:58? And, you should absolutely use Google translate during the voice overs. 😜

Great video. BTW Khiara, please don’t chop you bangs straight across.

The island "Terceira" has this name because it was the third to be discovered in the archipelago of the Azores in 1449
