They are a couple of great handguns. While I've gone with the VP9, you certainly can't go wrong with the PPQ.
***** Please, I agree I am stuck with a G20 because no one else makes 10mm, I would take a walther or HK, glocks are just so stuck in the past!
Wilson Combat makes nice ones too but I want a polymer beside the glock def not ergo like the two mentioned in the vid
MAC your vids are awesome.
so no Sphinx for your new EDC?
I've watched your vids for quite some time and I'm hard pressed to recall any pistol review where your rounds on target were so jawdroppingly impressive as when you reviewed the PPQ, perhaps only seconded with your review of your springfield 1911. Somehow I get the feeling that you arent the biggest PPQ fan..I suspect the orig mag release.
Tim, I'm with you. I favor the VP9. Not that I'm ditching the PPQ, but I can't stop shooting the HK. Thanks Bro~
HK VP9 2020 update changes things. Comes with 17 round mags, black out rear sights/high viz front, and optic ready.
Own the PPQ and love it - but I want a VP9 too. First World problems.
My Westie has your name. I have the PPS M2 LE and the 5" PPQ M1 from Gunbuyer.com.
These are the two best striker fire handguns on the market. I own both now because I just grabbed a VP9. I have had a glock since I was 17 years old and I can say without a doubt that I prefer both German guns over my G19. I have shot the S&W M&P and wouldn't change from the German makes.
My neighbors are great, talked about guns with them; they all went out and picked up almost exactly what I have. My neighbors now shoot as often as I do in the back 40. We do have one city liberal that lives about a mile away that called the sheriff once. Lol the Sheriffs told them that they should have stayed in the city. The sheriffs then came over, we talked about guns and they said if those folks ever give me a problem let them know. They also inspected my back stop, range flag and watched us shoot. They said, they put in their log that we have a very professional set up and were very inviting.
My friend has a neighbor to his land that calls the sheriff on us every time we go out there to shoot. She calls them like clockwork. We call the sheriff ahead of time to let them know to expect a call, so they don't have to waste their time coming out if they're busy.
Doggorunning - that is bad ass - good for you; Merica😎
I like Sootch’s last little line about his neighbors, hopefully CNN doesn’t find it though, if so you’ll likely see a CNN headline that says “ UA-cam gun channel host threatens to kill new neighbors”!
Awesome!
Wow that’s awesome doggorunning wish we can do that in Illinois
I bought the HK as my first firearm and the PPQ was my other choice. Both great firearms. The deciding factors were exactly as you covered. Trigger feel. Ergo grip for me. Good review and should be especially helpful to new folks looking to buy their first pistol.
That is one of the best reviews you've given. Great detail.
Sochi, love your work. Thanks for all the free advice. You have really helped an old revolver and 1911 guy come to better understand the striker-fire world.
Yeah I was supposed to type Sooch
Tremendous effort in this review. Thanks so much. On the fence but leaning on the VP9.
Great side by side review. Your videos never disappoint. Keep up the good work!!
Love my PPQ... Another great video Sootch. Keep up the good work, excellent channel.
Thanks for a useful review, as always! Imagine if one day we could be lucky enough to see such a comparison between a P320C vs VP9C ...!
Due to its trigger characteristics the PPQ pistol is marketed by Walther in Germany as a special forces pistol and not as a police duty pistol. According to the Technical Specifications (TR) of the German Police (Technische Richtlinie Pistolen im Kaliber 9mm x 19, Revision January 2008) for obtaining a German Police duty pistol certification a first shot trigger pull of ≥30 N (6.7 lbf), a trigger travel of ≥10 mm (0.4 in) and a trigger reset of ≥4 mm (0.2 in) are required.
Correct.
in usa it literally means "police Pistol quick" cuz after the first shot it has a good hair trigger and great recoil system to get MUCH faster repetitive shots on target . But magazines are either 15 or 17 rounds as far as factory mags . i cant think of much handgun confrontations where the ppq doesnt come out on top with things being equal in setting.
@@timetraveler1973 All things being equal, operator makes the bigger difference.
@@oleboy7615 yeah. thats kinda the scarey part of the ppq. you cannot rest your finger on trigger you can only put it there when you are about to blow someone out of existence. cuz after that first shot its so light its basically 22 level teir rapid fire fun. so fuckin fun at the range. but that aint a 22 u sending. thats a 9 or bigger.
@@timetraveler1973 It is a smooth shooter.
Been watching vp9 reviews. This one is d most knowledgeable review of em all! Keep it up sir
Thanks for this review. This really helped me find my gun. I went with both, but HK VP9 in full size, and PPS M2. This was a great review and helped me make my decision. Thanks.
Remember that the PPQ has backstraps as well.
So how the two grips feel in size is relative to which extensions you have installed on each at the time.
So many interesting poly pistols available this year.
True comes with 3 to choose from.
Very detailed unbiased approach to the review sootch, kudos. They're both great pistols. Id like to get my hands on a vp9 when the prices mellow down, can't go wrong with the PPQ as its the EDC of choice for me thus far. Well done great info.
Great comparison video. Thanks. I'll be getting the PPQ soon. I Just purchased my Beretta 92 fs Inox. Love it too!
Well done, sootch! I think you have leveled the playing field on two great pistols.
Excellent review of both handguns. You really gave me a lot to think about when I actually hold them in a gun shop. The ability to customize the grips by means of the changing the palms swells and the backstraps independent of each other to the shooters hand totally blows my mind. The grip texturing, metal vs plastic sights, the addition of the slide tabs at the rear of the slide to aid in pulling the slide back, the cocked indicator at the rear of the slide of the HK VP9, the pros and cons of the triggers. The only real disadvantage to the HK that I can see is the overall length. The HK being 2 oz heavier I can live with that. Thanks again and keep up the fantastic videos reviews.
I own both and love them both the same. Both fantastic firearms.
I'm going to be purchasing both these soon. Two awesome handguns.
I like the mag and slide release better on the ppq. the lever mag release thing is just weird on vp. ppq wins on trigger. ppl complain about vp trigger slap. I'm good with the ppq thanks.
I bought them both! My craving has been met. Now to find extra mags.
Thanks sootch for an excellent side-by-side comparison.
I love my H&K VP9 !!!!
I’m loving my PPQ!! Great vid brother. Thank you
As a PPQ owner I'm glad you gave both pistols their due respect. Great comparison!
Great videos. I love all of them. Before I buy I always look for your video for the pistol in question.
Thanks again for the work on this review! I’m waiting for the VP9-B to hit stores then I’ll make my decision.
Just buy both - end of story ...
Mike F, can you lend me the money? I'm willing to pay you 6 for 5
Zorro Z I have both, they are great
that's what i did, after a 1000 rounds per gun i chose the ppq as my main carry.
yep
lol exactly what I've done.
Thanks for the well done comparison!
I have been following the reviews on both of these pistols. Until I can get my hands on them both to try how they feel and function I will have to wait to make a decision on which is better for me. It's great that they are both rated so highly.
This is what called a good and informative video. Nice video.
Bums me out that Walther got away from the paddle mag release. One of my favorite things about my old P99, and probably one of the reasons I’ll hold off on the PPQ in search of another P99.
Walter ppq m1 is the exact same gun with the paddle mag release
The M2 has a paddle mag release version as well.
Both of these were what I chose between for my first pistol at 21 a few years back.
My uncle ended up buying the HK vp9, then I ended up going with the PPQ.
Never been able to shoot them side by side however
I need to find an HK after watching your review and MAC review. Enjoyed this comparison on the two pistols.
The PPQ rocks, it's my next piece. Great Video.
Nice vid and camera work too. Your video helped me with my decision to go with the VP9. Thanks Sootch.
Sootch00 always provides excellent reviews. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your great reviews
I am waiting to get a VP9
Great reviews, very nice! Thanks for sharing.
Have carried the PPQ M2 for over one year. Absolutely love it. Highly Recommend.
Me too. My edc. You get used to the weight and bulk.
What holster do you use? I'm looking for one that doesn't scratch so much
Agree with you on the paddle mag release Sootch; I deliberately sought out a PPQ M1 in order to get them. After a short learning curve I think more shooters would appreciate that system.
Just picked up a VP9 and put 100rds of various FMJ ammo without issue! Looking forward to LOTS more!!! Great review and vid Sootch!
I'm an HK man myself. Love'em! But, I have both pieces. I like the Walther PPQ and PPS that I have as well due to their being ambidextrous with the paddle mag release just like my HK's. Got to admit though that I am more accurate with my PPQ. Great piece!
Both look awesome, I will definitely have to try the PPQ. I was lucky enough to find a VP9 for $599 at CDNN. It's on it's way right now. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Great video as always!
Both are awesome Mr..
Sootch00, big fan of your channel. Thanks again for all your videos. This video really help me decide on which of these two pistols to choose from. I went with the VP9! Keep up the great work! God bless!
That last clip of the video was priceless well put sir
Love your videos Sootch!! Keep 'em coming.
Nice review. I've heard amazing things about the VP9. However, I don't think anything can replace my PPQ. Also, one thing I'd like to point out. The PPQ doesn't come standard with the trigger guard mag release. That was the PPQ M1. The model you have, which is the one you will find in most stores now, is the PPQ M2. They changed that to suit the American market better.
I bought a walther pps le night sights 3 mags only handful of rounds fired through it for $330 a real steal because of your reviews I also bought a canik tp9sf elite a canick tp9da an yesterday a hkvp9 also a gsg firefly an a walther p22 thanks for your reviews and great work looking forward to more
Just bought the PPQ with a c-note rebate - When I received the pistol I replayed the video with gun in hand and I am 100% satisfied dry, now going to the range - looking at Materpiece Arms vs.Tikko - would love to see Sootch break those down - I will be donating regularly...great service - bought my 458 Socom based on videos Sootch's input was a factor
Both pistols are made in Germany, so you cant go wrong with either one.
ahmedadnan100 im currently deciding between a ppq, vp9, or G19.. PPQ is #1 right now...
by the ppq you will not regret it.
Isn't the PPQ made in Arkansas?
china
@@LarryRickenbacker Yes, Ft Smith, Arkansas. It is even visible on the pistol in this barrel.
Today I went in to my local gun shop and was expecting to purchase a ppq, but then I noticed the vp9 and had to give it a try. Picking it up and they both felt really good but after witching between the 2 for a couple of mins I notice that the back pad of the ppq dug into my palm the wrong way and it drove me way. Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful gun but the vp9 was more comfortable to me, I couldn't be more happy with my purchase. Either way you go you will be getting the 2 best 9mm pistols on the market
Have a Walther PPQ Q5 Match. Recently added the HK VP9SK to my collection. Love them both.
Sootch, I've watched a couple of your reviews now and like them. I appreciate the info you give on the pistols and the objective look. Well done!
I have admired the PPQ for some time, but when the VP9 came out I just had to have one after shooting a rental at the range. I don't think one could go wrong with either, but the VP9 really is something. Thanks again for the review.
Thanks sootch00 I have both and they are awesome.
I own the walther ppq and I'm going to buy the HK vp9 for my father. The charging assists on the slide should help him operate the slide easily.
Bought my very first handgun yesterday (PPQ). Fits my hand perfectly. Can't wait to shoot it. Don't worry, a friend of mine, who knows guns, will be at the range with me. lol Thanks for the great reviews Don.
Thank you for making this video, it helped me a lot in my decision making!
I will buy both of em!
He always does good reviews!
Very nice! Thanks for the video!
epic pistol battel
greeting from a belgian fan and subcriber yani van handenhove
Sootch, I found a VP9 at my local gun shop. It was $649.00 and of course I couldn't help myself so I took it home. I had my first range day with it last Thursday and I gotta say it is more comfortable than my P30L. I had no trouble at all keeping silver dollar groups at 7 yards. Follow up shots and mozambiques were effortless with the lower bore axis and recoil system in place. She is a sweet shooter and I hope they make good on the VP45 and if we are lucky a VP9sk eventually. Great video my friend, your VP9 series really focused my "need" to buy list in favor of the VP9. Thank you! Mick-
Great, detailed comparison, Sootch.
Great review and video. I like both, and plan to buy the VP9 once it is more reasonably priced.
Now this a real comparison 2 fine pistols, both are excellent choices, now this is perfection!
Very detailed. Nice video. Hopefully adding a VP9 to keep my M&P9 company :)
Nice review! I've been a happy P30 and PPQ owner for several years now. The PPQ has made me wish for a striker fired P30 and finally my wish came true! On the P30, is the striker cocked by the slide like the PPQ? That's one of the reasons the PPQ trigger is so clean.
Great review!
Excellent review! Thanks 😎
Nice review of both pistols. A couple of months ago we got a PPQ here and it is what I now carry, but will check out more about the VP9 as well.
Both fine machines, think I'll pick up one of each and see how I like them. I prefer the paddle mag release a LOT though.
Gunbuyer.com has an exclusive 5" Walther PPQ with the paddle mag release. I love mine so much I may get another. The PPS M2 LE is my EDC.
I have the VP9, shoots more naturally than an other auto pistol I've ever owned, SW, two Kimbers, Glocks, M & P, also a USP. By far a winner and it does have an excellent trigger. Hands down for out of a box factory. Thanks for the vid Sooch!
Looking forward to your VP9 vs P30 review, as I am looking to pick one up soon. Please expedite! :-)
when you're comparing minor minor things like "oh this one's better cause it has 1/32 take up instead of 1/16 take up" then I'd call them equal, buy both, dualies! :P
I have a PPQ M1 (my all time fav) and im about to buy a VP9 from my buddy. and i acully got really good deals on both. bought my PPQ online and on sale for $450 in all and im paying $480 for the VP9( he paid $520 brand new)
Good honest review.. Thanks Don
Both are great guns!
THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!! - Highlander
trigger showdown PPQ vs VP9 vs TP9SF/SA .... just do it already, we've been waiting :)
A very sharp picture and a great video!
I still think I prefer the triangular shape of the PPQ slide over a more traditional box, but the VP9 has a competitive trigger in comparison. Nice video, thanks for the info.
I have both , VP9 and PPQ M2 long slide. I like the H&K ergonomics and PPQ trigger . Both are excellent.
Great review Sootch. I plan to buy the PPQ here this fall. It will be my first 9mm pistol. We'll see if my mind changes from my .45 XD (doubt it though). Thanks for the comparison.
Dam, I still can't decide which one, but love the review. Will P30 holsters accommodate the VP9?
great review thank you. i have a vp9
I just picked up a VP9 the other day! I cant stop shooting it!
Great video, insta subbed!
After rejecting the H&K P30 for a trigger I didn't prefer. Bought the PPQ 3 months ago. Love it. Got the VP9 in my hand today and it stuck in my mind. This is the first video that came up in my research and I said "Oooohh. will I regret not waiting on the H&K?." For $100+ bux. I think I'll be happy. Thanks for the vid!
Nice reviews , looking at both .
Awesome video! Turns out i will end up getting both!
Love your videos so much
Living next to Sootch? Awesome!
Excellent review my friend!
Great video. I appreciate your reviews...helps me in my decision process...thank you. You mentioned in this video and another that you were going to do a p30 vs vp9 review. I can't find it. Did you do this comparison video?
I would take the Walther over the H&K. I like everything about it better, even the stiffer uptake on the trigger.
And I would take the M1 Walther over the M2. Like the paddle mag release better than the button
Bungalo Bill true dat bro! Paddles are way easier!
I know right. I have a buddy with a P30. The first time I shot it I commented on how much I liked the mag release. I cut my teeth on a Taurus 92af, now I shoot S&W M&P's, so defiantly not used to the paddles. With in about three reloads I was running the gun completely naturally. The paddles really shine when reloading from the off hand. There just great, completely ambi without much chance of accidently getting actuated.
SasquatchyCowboy is a shame that Walther got scared with the PPQ and eliminated the paddles in the mark 2. People just like to complain about stuff they don't own. And gotta love the P30LS V3 :)
I agree. People get stuck on the idea that what they have, or like, is the best, and they are slow to change. I'm not going to dump my M&P's just cause I like the paddle. But I do recognize that he paddle is an excellent maybe even superior release. I agree about Walther there was no need to change it.
SasquatchyCowboy they got scared because a lot of buzz in USA was about the whining wanting a mag release button. And now a lot of people are looking for a Mark 1 PPQ because of the paddles.
12/12/16: Still waiting sootch on the Walther Arms CREED review. Please don't let the wait time go into 2017
I purchased a PPQ and totally love this gun. I like the VP9 as well but it was $100 more than the PPQ in my area. PPQ is a great firearm.
