It is research my dude. Contemplation makes sense as far as I'm concerned, though that would make the labs actually just a computer with the machine that makes the cards being the actual lab.
@@Ranakastrasz I actually really like the theming of it all and it seems to have some funny/spooky story as much as factorio allows for that. But I won't say more because knowing ahead of time might not be fun for people who want to experience it themselves.
I hope there's an endgame tech, costing several hundred thousand of every kind of contemplation card, which gives you a second cube. Not the ability to make new cubes; it just tells you where a second cube is.
@@mars5train601 That's a bit mean. Have you seen how much effort it takes to get there for someone who doesn't have a specific destination in mind? Just tossing it in an iron chest a few dozen chunks from anything that's been generated should be enough.
@@timothymclean Hey, that post was a joke. You see, its funny because I suggest something that is completely impractical for a normal player to achieve, while completely aware of it. I just don't understand how it could be considered mean.
@Toksyuryel is right. Rare earth metals are not rare. They are called that because they rarely are concentrated in a place to be worth building a mine.
Wow, that really is a unique mod concept! I really should look into more weird factorio mods, it's amazing what people have come up with. Thanks for highlighting this!
Wow, what a fascinating mod, this has so many interesting problems that arise from the dynamic of having one major control device for all processes across a base. The requirement to queue the cube across several machines and sort their priorities so that they don't ever run out of power in the middle of an operation. What a unique concept that completely flips the game on its head
I just spun up this mod to give it a shot. One problem I didn't expect to need to solve was the cube getting stuck in the ultradense furnace fuel slot while the furnace was still stuck unloading the previous batch of metals. Because of the quirks of how assemblers work block if their output is full, the cube could be stuck in the furnace while 500 rare earth metals are unloaded, then wait until 500 new ore is added. I ended up adding a basic counter to the input inserters and only inserting the cube if 450 raw metals had already been added. It was a fun problem to solve.
My preferred method is using a timer to check when the last time an item was inserted to know if the machine so full, along with checking that the buffer is full. I’ll talk more about that in a later episode.
Im 100 hours into Ultracube. Its recreates, for the seasoned Factorio player, the fun/confusion/frustration/wonder that you had on your first Factorio playthrough. Highly recommend.
What a unique and interesting idea, I will have to try it out for myself. I love these mods that actually change the gameplay and don't just add reskinned assemblers with new recipes.
I'm imagining three players trying to set up their own factories in different parts of the map, constantly stealing the Cube out of each other's boilers and furnaces.
I am currently doing a run with this mod, after 12 h I have automated the second science. It took quite some time to figure out a good way to handle the bigger recipes that is unlocked. I am not satisfied but it is stable at the moment. This mod will be MUCH easier after the new expansion. Being able to wire the building to see if they are empty would solve so many challenges.
i tried this but gave up when i realised the efficient solution was to develop a brain that flagged where the cube needed to go, and then routed it not in a loop that goes through the entire factory but make the route also change depending on what items are flagged to minimise the cubes travel path. As 99% of the time the cube is travelling, not producing, if you run a long circular belt and add separate conditions for each inserter And I'm just not going to program a brain in factorio personally
This mod has me intrigued but I keep wondering if this is more of a "dead lock chasing" exercise than anything. Just like any mod with byproducts....you findout your system doesnt work when it gets stuck...no different than the cube. However, I do like the fact that cube runs around...it is a definite bit of amusement.
@@WiwiwabYou are correct that if you do something absolutely perfect the first time, with zero mistakes, and have full knowledge of what the entire playthrough will be...there will be no deadlocks. Yep..that isn't gonna happen bud.
Nah its more about minimising downtime. The cube spends the majority of it's time on a belt travelling around the factory. All the recipes that use the cube are super quick to craft, so it gets used once, thrown back on belt, and does nothing for 20 seconds. The difficulty comes from finding a way to send the cube exactly where it needs to go as quick as possible. Because this circular belt design is running at like
In the sense that you need to use circuits to control where the cube is being used, yes, but you don't seem to have 4 byproducts that must be repeatedly processed to get rid of them or anything like you'd get in pyanadon (or to a lesser extent angel+bobs) In most mods, you simply want to use a condition that voids the byproducts if you have too much of them.
Dekard Cain# You need to put the horadarim staff into horadarim cube. For those who remember, its the first thing that haunted my mind when i heard(the cube)
