I have the exact same stool, and I made a fabric cover for it with elastic around the edges hidden under the seat.

The best tool I know to cut foam is an electric turkey slicer.

Unfortnately you left wrinkles in the fabric. The original stool had a smooth edge. You finished product has a lot of wrinkles around the edge. Also, the crisscross of the trim piece leaves a bulge in the seat.
