Years after and you're still looking out for us. God Rest your soul, good Sir.
Ron, You are a legend in the ford 6.0 community. You passed too soon my brother. I've referred to this very video quite a few times in my 6.0 journey.
Thank you Ron, even in the afterlife you are still helping people figure it out. This video helped alot and im very thankful, i had 48volts but when it acted up it dropped to 36volts. Changed the FICM with a dealer ford pre programed one, works like a champ and its very fast now. The customer returned later on to buy us lunch. :)
This guy was really something. Invaluable to the 6.0 community.
R.I.P RON you are truly missed the good die early
My condolences to his family. Your dad just helped me save $1000.00 by teaching me to do the job myself. His legacy of helping others continues.
You were a great guy, You will be missed. R.I.P. Ron
Thanks to his video's he will be helping fix trucks for years to come, thanks bud.RIP.
What a knowledgeable guy.
After I posted the comment above I scrolled down and soon was wiping tears off my cheeks. My condolences
I would like to give my testimony as to the FICM repair service that Ron offers. After watching Ron's videos, I was able to narrow it down to the FICM. Not knowing for sure, I wanted to send mine to Ron to be tested. He was not only able to test it, but also provided an expert repair job on it! Turn around was quick! The diesel injection shops here in N.H. could not test them, but could only sell you a new FICM. They were not near as helpful as Ron. 5 Stars Ron!!!!
Rest in peace Ron. Awesome individual
Ron, yet another person you've helped get their Super Duty running again. Hope to thank you one day in Heaven.
Rest in peace Ron what great videos you made. I'm sure you're in abetter place in gods hands.
I had a hard start when cold issue on my 05 F250 and watched all your videos regarding that symptom. I wanted to thank you for putting up these videos to help people troubleshoot issues. Your videos are well thought out and easy to understand. This one in particular helped me diagnose a faulty FICM. I had 48VDC key on engine off but during the solenoid test at the beginning of the key cycle I only had 22VDC. I replaced the FICM and now I have 48VDC during the solenoid cycle and my truck starts right up. Thanks a lot for your time and knowledge.
Ron, I want you to know, I am about to use your advice on my FICM right now. Thank You up there!
Man do I miss Ron!!
He was awsome to learn from!!
You should be an apprentice ship teacher if your not.already . you explain everything so well
i came here because i have a bad ficm, and also learned the amazing trick of how to easily replace the air filter, WOW! would've saved me a lot of heartache and busted knuckles fighting with that stinkin thing to replace it!.
That was great! I did not even know where the FICM was located! And yes that is a GREAT way to get out the air filter. Thanks for posting!
Thanks Ron. You helped me get this done today. RIP
Thank you for your help Ron, saving me a costly repair on a work truck. God bless
Rest in peace I don’t remember you all the time you’re the best Power truck mechanic my condolences for his family
you don't want it to drop under 45 volts with good supply voltage in on the F-series trucks. Vans may drop during the pre clatter. As far as taking money out of our pocket? If I help people they are more likely to buy another Ford and save our jobs and these engines have a bad reputation that is not all it's fault. There are a lot of bad repairs out there. Hopefully I help others to do it right. The people looking for help need it and most likely won't or can't come to us anyways.
Just to confirm Ron. Are you saying that the FICM Main Power (FMP on ScanGuageII) should ALWAYS be between 45 and 50v, even after starting while batteries are being replenished?
Hi again Ron. I notice that my FICM voltage is between 47 and 48 volts KOEO but drops to between 35 - 40 volts right after start and stays near the mid 30's until RPM drop off to idle say at a traffic light, At the light in idle FICM is at 47-48 volts. Does the FICM require repair?
Me again Ron....what a pest!!! Would appreciate an early response. If my FICM needs replacement/repair I would like to order from you sooner rather than later.
Ron was the best
DieselTechRon good morning sir
Just opening up , this is a faster way will look at all of them .
Great, great, info followed your vids to the letter, installed your rebuilt FICM and problem gone so far, will know for sure in morning when real cold. Thanks Ron
Milwaukee the m12 series.
If you don't want to waste money you have to do test. Do you have base oil pressure? ((Gauge)? Do you have fuel pressure? Is the fuel pump running when you turn the key on? Do you hear the injector precycle when you turn the key on? Any codes? Does your ficm voltage stay above 45 volts all the time? ESP during the precycle cold and running above 2000 Rpms? If you have all of that then you need to know your icp input key on engine off and your ipr percentage cranking along with actual icp
Ron you make it look easy
Thank you for your instructional videos. I was able to diagnose and repair the FICM low voltage issue with AUTOENGINUITY scan tool program. F250 6.0L (89K miles) Crank No Start coughing black smoke and FICM voltage dropping from 48V to
Thanks Diesel Tec Ron,You're a Great Help RIP YOU Saved me a Lot of Money Today
rons cool as hell!
Thanks Ron, my ficm went bad on my 6.0 after some work which sounded like a base engine issue no start. Further diagnosed the icp and ipr were perfect but my ficm was at 35.5v and kept dropping. New ones in tomorrow and will be back on the road🔧
Hey Ron, thanks for all your help today with my FICM and all the great advice!
@jeff1697 low voltage will kill a ficm, but as long as you are over 45 you're good. I actually like to see 46 and above. Make sure you check it when cold and at higher RPMs.
Thanks for the help. Worked great. Saved a ton of time and money.
@ctmiller6062 If it drops below 45 the alternator will not fix it. But if you replace it and the batteries and charging system has a fault, the new one will not last either.
@70donnybrooke Yes, you have a problem. The module is under the most stress when cold and Ford states if it falls under 45 at any time, it is a failing module. Most likely you only have one resistor going out.
Great video, great technique, thanks.
Jeez, just read this man has passed, way too young. Best wishes to the family.
Thanks . your a great help RIP ...
Sorry just saw it in your post thanks!
@JIMRSX Thank you
Sorry. for late replies. I commute 142 miles a day to work and have 4 kids. not much free time. FICMs on Ebay. 198.00 Ronh12 is my name on Ebay. For me to help we need to know a few things and have to monitor different stuff. The least expensive tool I know of is the Scan Gauge 11.
You are so awesome thanks for the help.
Ron - Great video and instructions!! Thank you.
I'm wondering too, I've never seen a cordless that fast but I think the video speed changes throughout the video.
Well you can't, but if it stays above 45 volts even during the precycle. That is the clatter you hear when the key is first tuned on. also the fact that you hear the precycle can almot be a confirmation that the ficm is working properly. It's not 100% but it does work. When I have truck with sticking injectors the clatter is not consistent.
DieselTechRon 2007.f.250.superduty..balvula.E.g.r.6.0
Sorry, but I did't realize he passed away. RIP Ron
Within days, recently, I just removed the degas bottle and the FICM without complications or difficulties.
Yeah. I broke my dipstick the first time like that too. 😀
@200mphz06 $200 from ronh12 (me) on eBay. You do have to pay a refundable $200 core charge with that but it's returned when you send your core back
R.I.P. brother.
Only the best die young. RIP.
Sorry but I don't know the wire color codes by heart. I mostly do engines and drivability concerns. Is there another truck around that you can look at to copy. It is important to check it against an 04. ESP not an 05 or newer.
@ctmiller6062 Sorry for the late reply. 44-45 is bad but not bad enough to cause an obvios problem. Is that voltage while driving or idling? If that is idling then yes it will drop even more when you raise the rpms or work it and it may be your ficm. Does it clear up when warm? If so maybe you also have sticking injectors. It's not the HPOP. it can cause a lack of power but not misfire. it supplies all of the injectors and they are even high or low. Your ipr should never hit 85%
Is it possible to purchase a set of CD's with all Ron's 6.0 related videos? We live with no cable and poor cellular. Thanks.
Respond to this video... I would need to know the colors but most likely it is for your trailer brake if you added one. The other end should be around your data link connector on the inside.
Ron, Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It is very well done. Where are you located?
You make it look so easy, spent 2 hours trying to get the wiring harness apart what is the trick?
Ron, great video!! I appreciate you taking time to help DIY'ers. I replaced oil cooler & egr cooler on '06 f350 6.0 powerstroke. Cranks, no start. Did your multimeter test on ficm and got millivolt reading on first test (key off). I thought I was doing it wrong, so checked battery and got 12 volts. Turned key on and got 48.5 volts. Turned key off and repeated key off test again and got almost 48 volts, but it continued to drop for 2 min and got millivolt readings again. I'm thinking it's the ficm. Do you have other ideas? Do you sell rebuilt ficms?
@JDBrown1966 Are you using any fluids? Esp coolant? does it smell like fuel? How much smoke and does it last the whole time it is running? any codes? If it is using water then it is probably and egr cooler. If not it may be as simple as a glow plug not warming up the cylinder enough it it clears up in a few minutes or it can be an egr valve or injector. Need more info
@ldcater1 I can do that. Like what type of symptoms should I cover? What would be a good title for people can find it? Let me know what you find the most common and I'll address it.
Things good
Well I took my truck to the dealership. They told me my ficm, glow plug relay and my alternator is bad. They said to replace alternator first to see if it fixes my voltage for my ficm, then go from there.
hey ron I got a 2004 f250 6.0 it started a week ago, it seems like truck lose fuel pressure, I change the filters it ran find , and then it lose it again if u tap on the fuel pump housing the truck runs great again ,it got 1140.000 on it , could it be the fuel pump is going bad,
Is it normal to see lower FICM Main Power (FMP) voltage while the truck is warming up (ie. 30-35v) increasing to full 46-48v when truck is fully warmed up?
thanks!
I have a 2005 6.0 f250 it died and wont start. I check the ficm with a meter and it showed 2 when crank motor showed 10. I also have no injector click.
Did you figure out the problem
I have a 05 6.0L. I recently got a p0611 code for fuel control performance. Its hard starting cold/hot. It's immediately blowing out clouds bluish smoke. It idles normal and has normal power. I'm not to experienced in diesels yet. Can you help me out with any insight going on with it. The hard starting is from the ficm I think but I'm trying to understand the immediate constant smoke. I'd appreciate any help.
Hey Ron do you have an email where I can send you a truck scenario? I have been working on this truck for 2 weeks now and I have a bunch of information that I am hoping you can help me with. Thanks again for all that you do...your videos are phenomenal and have helped immensely!!
Ron i have a no start problem with a 6.0 f350 2005 this is the first time i own a diesel truck i hear there is lots of problems with this engine in getin an idea whath could be wrong with my truck with your videos thanks
Should, or could the FICM be relocated to an area of less heat/vibration/temp. changes, etc.? I know on the GM 6.5 L Diesel, the equivalency of the FICM could be moved with an aftermarket kit.
Ron, on this video my ficm volts are 48. engine is rough idle and when i press on accelarator i have no power engine shakes. then hours later it runs like no issures then i punch the accelarator when on road and engine is shaking or vibrating. then issue starts up rough idle and engin shaking. i use scan gauge 2 no codes & turbo never 15 or 85%.
Rest in peace
Hi,
I have inactive codes 2006 6.0 l vt365 similar to the powerstrocke. I have 4 injectors 2 from each bank. 2,8 3,5 low to hight side open. And code 335 inactive unable to build pressure. Truck fired up no problem. Idles weird. I am able to rev up but see a lot of black smoke.. Shift to drive. Zero response. No power. No rev. Unplugged ipr while engine running. Engine shut up. Did the same with icp. Engine shut off. Removed EBP sensor. Looked clean. Removed EGR valve was dirty. Cleaned. Still same issue. Any ideas?
I need a video of changing the wiring harness for the ficm n I can't find one. Can anyone help?
I noticed you read your key on without the engine running voltage after the buzz stopped. I didn't have a helper so I rigged a wire to the screw and set the VOM against the hood so I could see it from the driver's seat. Key on read 27 volts till the buzz finished, then went to 48.2 volts. After start, voltage was 47.6. Is this a good or bad FICM?
Good job! What brand are your cordless wratchets? I'll have to check out your other vids!
it’s a matco ¼ cordless
Hi Ron:
Thank you for your very helpful video. I hope to give you my money if it comes to that. I checked both voltage on ignition and on start and both are 47-48V and solid. The truck starts fine but then when it warms up, it misfires, will not run well and lacks power. (Pedal to the metal and not jam whatsoever). I had hoped this was the FCIM...does not appear to be though. Any suggestions?
I have a 2006 F350 6.0 & it has a rough idle but not as bad as the one in this video. Since it doesn't have that smooth idle, is my FICM bad?
Thank you for those of you who purchased a ficm from me. Please note that I install every ficm on a truck, program it then drive it before it is sentout. You will never get a bad ficm from me. If you have any questions please contact me through EBAY ronh12 is my ID. Thanks again.
the F250 light truck presents us a problem of ignition when already this heats when extinguishing return it to light despues of 20min of use that type of problem can be if |remplazaron| the gas station of high oil and IRP that type of possible problem has the F250 motor 6.0
What if it don't start how do you check voltage?
Maybe you can help me. We had the ficm repaired for a 100 bucks and has a lifetime warranty, we had it working great for about a month and suddenly we went to the store turned it off got back in and it would crank but wouldn't turn over, we had it towed to our house check the ficm with the multimeter and it was working fine with the proper voltage, any suggestions on what else it could be, please and thank you, i would take it to a shop but i just lost my job and money is real tight. Thank yo

Hi Ron -
What should I be looking for when the Ficm is cked while running with a volt meter. While running what should volts be at while running if Bad. My truck has the same systems as the truck your working on. Look for help with this. Also can I buy a 1/2 ficm from ford or can I get a aftermarket ficm?
Thanks.
Hi Ron,
again great video, my 06 6.0 has 48.v with key on and stays on 48.v will cranckin. my code are all cylinders low voltage.
can it be FICM bad.
thanks again for all great video.
do you have injector clatter during key on?
hey i have a 2006 F250 that is running a little like this i have lintermintent loss of power and rough idling like this. NO CODES showing. i know i need new battries but would this being bad cause a little shake and loss of power intermintanly.
What year truck is that I own a 05 and have had no problems yet I'm sitting at 80,000 miles no and am worried about problems in the future.
Hi Ron: Further testing, engine starts then when it is warm continues to lack power. Voltage is solid at 48V. Wiggle test shows nothing. Removed and cleaned EGR valve, P2066 error code still on KOER test (cylinder 2 contribution/balance), I am at a loss here. I would hate to purchase a FCIM only to find that it is not the problem. Can the FCIM still be bad even though the voltage is solid?
Hi Ron I have a F-250 build date is 7/2003 I believe it has the 2002 motor with a no start needing know if there is a way to check to see if I have a Hpop leaking internaling
@DieselTechRon My trucks begun missing every now and then, everyone i talk to says its probably the ficm going. However, with the key on its ate 48v, cranking 48v, running 48v. However when I hold it at 2000rpm, it drops to 45.3v
Do you think that it is an FICM in the early stags of decline?
On my truck when I turn it the FiCM reads 48v but once I actually turn the engine it reads 40v. It increases to 48v very slowly if left on. Is that good or bad
Hi ron. how can i check the voltage with the engine running if it wont start? or does that mean that the problem is elsewhere than the FICM? ive seen you ICP video too, and that seems like it could possibly be my problem too. im just trying to figure out how to do some self diagnosis here. thanks
Hi Ron, I have a ford f250 and the FICM is failing, do you repair those types of problems? Please let me know, thankyou
i have a 2003 f250 super duty it was running low on fuel i put some diesel i drove 60 miles then it started shaking a little bit i drove it another 20 miles the it lost power i parked waited for 20 minutes ten turned it on it was fine i drove i drove 20 miles then it lost power then it started shaking again lost power and turned off it wouldt turn on NOW WHEN I TRY TO CRANK IT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WANTS TO TURN ON BUT IT DOESNT AND WHEN I TURN IT ON NOW IT TURNS ON SHAKING VERY BAD AN
Hey- Ron my ficm test 48 on thr meter but i noticed that the altinator doesn't seem to be]
working would this make any difference.
My truck is running similar to the one on the video
Hi Ron after using a Genisys scanning system on my 2006 F350 power stroke when my check engine light came on, it read codes: P0261,264,267,270,272,273,276,279,282,611. Which is "Fuel injector circuit low cylinder 1-8" and "fuel injector control module performance" I'm leaning towards the FICM as the cause. The truck starts and runs, has about 75% power. How much is one of your replacement FICMs? I get a discount through work from Ford so i'm trying to get prices, thanks Ron!
Hi there Ron! I find your video very helpful. Although your battery ratchet caught my attention more of how small and powerful it is. And was wondering what kind of brand was it and where can I get my hands on one? Snap on,Milwaukee,Makita,Ingersoll??????
If you do a search, youll find that sadly Ron died
it’s a matco ¼ cordless ratchet
Hi Ron, what is the warranty on your manufactured FICM?
hi am josh i live in the Bahamas i have a 2005 f250 diesel 6.0 it runs great but at times when i park it and go to start it again it has a no start can you help pleaseeeeee
