How come these retro videos never mention the Caterpillar? That was a fun and unique ride. It was a small circular baby coaster, somewhere between the Thunderbolt and the Potato Patch. The cars went the whole way around in a circle. You get in and start going around, but then there was this mechanical tarp that would cover the whole thing, kind of like a convertible automobile. Then you were going around mostly blind under a tarp in the dark. You could see the grass below and the car in front of you and that was about it. Much like the Kangaroo, I don't think it would be very hard to create a new version of the Caterpillar. And it didn't take up a lot of space either. The lines were always short. It was that "one last thing to do while we're on this side of the park" before you eat lunch or whatever.
The reason was due inability to obtain to copyrights of all the original songs. They had a local musician re-record most of the music so as to avoid infringement. Most of the old time music such as the Wurlitzer, calliope, and piano music is now in the public domain.
I love watching this!! Brought me back to my childhood. I miss those days.
Thank u for the memory's! !!! very nice brought a tears to my 👀' s. To be a kid at Kennywood park !!!!
They need to make a sequel to this, so much has changed since this was made.
I hope these videos stay up forever because the version I taped off of PBS back in the early 90's wore out long ago.

Wow. Those who can't accept the fact that the park is always changing REALLY need to pay close attention to Rick's words starting at about 6:00

Looks like I'm not the only one who likes the music on the VHS version a lot better than the DVD... Those darn copyright Nazis hard at work again...
Its true. I cued this up today since my VHS copy is in a box in storage at the moment. The different music really throws things off.
"Love Rollercoaster" by Big Joe Turner
My mom rules at that bowling ball game! She wins everytime.
Didn't anyone notice the hilarious script oversight from 3:35-3:45. Have a listen...
At 3:06 the song was "Oh What a Nite" by the Dells 1956 great song.
There was no talk of The Ghostship... Grrr... Lovely video though. Thank you very much for posting it.
The Ghost Ship was my favorite haunted house ride ever.
Home sweet home
I've never been to Kennywood, it seemed awesome Back in the day. All we have here is the disgusting Six flags over tx. It's dirty, small & broken. 😕
