I grew up outside of Pittsburgh and Kennywood is my favorite park by far. The classic coasters and historic rides make it special. Also it is one of those parks that come to life after dark. Everything lights up. It is just so beautiful. Riding the Thunderbolt at night is the best. And the fries are the best late in the season.
As a native Pittsburgher, its nice to see your videos on Kennywood and see you enjoy your time there. I moved away from Pittsburgh about 5 years ago and every summer, I miss being at Kennywood. I fill my park void by going to Disney World 8-10 times a year, but its so much different than the small park feel of Kennywood.
Krista Roman I visited the park for the first time yesterday (loved it!), and when I rode this ride all I could think of was what a disaster the re-theming choice was. Garfield was already well out of date when they chose it, and the Garfield ride is fairly lame, even for children. I can’t wait until they accept their blunder and attempt to reinstate some version of the historic Old Mill ride.
I hated when it became Garfield. It was so much better as the old mill and yes that's where couples could have time alone. That's so funny! I haven't been here in a few years. I miss it. Used to go every year
Thanks so much for your review of Kennywood. It's my "home park." I grew up about 20 minutes from Kennywood and went 4-5 times every summer. When I visit my family who still live in the area they know I'm really only there for Kennywood. It's hard to pick my favorite ride because I love every ride in the park. That said, I love Phantoms Revenge, Thunderbolt, Racer and Jack Rabbit. The Exterminator us fun too, filled with so many surprises even though it's a mouser. Got to admit, though, as silly as it sounds the Kangaroo is still one of my absolute favorite rides at Kennywood. Most people don't know this about The Kangaroo but if you sit alone in the car and move to the "inside" of the seat before the hill, the gravity of the hill with swing you to the "outside" seat and you can pop high enough to the touch the tree with your hand every time you go around. Give it a try. And on the Racer you can shake hands with the person in the other train at several points in the ride. Just make sure you let go. Great review!
So much to pass along on to my children and grandchildren. So many wonderful memories that I have to cherish within, also along with many friends and family.
I am 13 and from Pittsburgh. Anyways, every time my family goes on our yearly trip to Kennywood after we pass over that hill and you begin to see the rides, as well as driving pass the rides and signs I almost start to tear up. Kennywood is my favorite place on this earth to be, and my friends and I are going this summer together. I promise you even if you aren’t a thrill seeker, you will not regret going to this park.
I practically grew up there. I experienced my first time riding a coaster there. Kennywood will always have a special place in my heart. My favorite coaster has to be the phantom's revenge. My favorite dark ride has to be ghostwood estate. I do miss the old turn pike though. Loved it when I was young. But the sky coaster is still pretty good! I would recommend for anyone to bring their family here!
Really great review. I am from Pitt and have been to Kennywood too many times to remember. But I liked your review because it reminded me the things about the park I take for granted. We never brought food but I forgot you can still do that. The food is awesome there. Its very classic and clean. But the biggest perk is the price. I think you can ride all day for $26!!!!
I lived in Pittsburgh for 30 years and always loved Kennywood. I live in a city that has many attractions but none are as enjoyable as Kennywood. I hope that owners and management keep the small-town feel. That's what keeps many people coming back 😊
I briefly lived in Northern WV, so I went to Kennywood in 1984 when I was 10. I got the People weekly list of top 10 roller coasters in the world that year and set out to ride as many as possible. The Thunderbolt was on the list and it didn't disappoint. Still one of my favorites. I also loved the racer and Jackrabbit fiercely. Haven't been in over 20 years. Would love to go back sometime. I haven't ridden at least half of their current coasters.
Awesome. I'll be here in late August and was going mostly because I'm be nearby (Cedar Point) and why not? But you make it sound like a great park, and between your coaster reviews and others, I am more excited about their coaster collection than before. Can't wait to go now!
I have only lived in Pittsburgh for 6 years and have been to this amazing park a lot. This is one of the most unique parks out there. My favorite ride is the Phantoms Revenge and I highly recommend this coaster if you are just visiting the park for the first time. The food there is amazing and you should hit the Golden Nugget Ice cream at the end of the day for a tasty treat.
I grew up in Pittsburgh so it’s a family tradition to go to Kennywood every summer I’m going on Wednesday(today is Monday). So yay. And in my option it’s the best park I have been too 😂😂
I live like six miles away from this place. About to make my tenth visit there. THIS PARK IS AWESOME. I’ve been to Cedar point and Hershey Park as a coaster enthusiast, but at those parks, you don’t get the atmosphere and the homey feel like I get at kennywood. Maybe it’s just my home park tho. ALSO, NOT A SINGLE RIDE WITH OVER THE SHOULDER RESTRAINTS! LAP BAR!!!!!!
On Phantom's Revenge going around the turn to the last airtime hills i caught a 100 dollar bill in my hands while they were up. My thought's on the park are pretty good all though racer gives me a bit of a headache. Sky Rocket was an ok ride. Thunderbolt was a fun expirence and i got my cousin on it and he was crying after it and the potato patch is awesome.
I live like 10 minutes away from Kennywood, it is the park that got me into rollercoasters (you can probably tell because my username has Coaster in it) it was a great time and I can't wait to go back there again!
I live literally 10 minutes away from there. It great for people of all ages. Like he said it’s a great place to take the family if u want. I see families and groups of friends there all the time. I also work there as of now. A great place to have a summer job if you’d like to make some money. The coworkers there are great and u feel like ur having fun, even if ur working.
Kennywood is Amazing! It is an amazing way to have fun and spend time with friends and family. The extermination or the racer has to be my favorite! I love Kennywood and their funnel cake ;D
I've been there like either every year since I was about 10. Every visit is still exciting and I'm never bored. One down side now as of 2019, was they "modernized" the classic penny arcade. Switching to cards that make all the games for expensive. It's basically that 1 credit is about 50 cents rather than 25 cents, so every game is about double the price it was from 2018 and before. They also removed about half of their old retro games.
dont compair kennywood to one of thpughs super parks like cedar point you will just think of it this way but kennywood is a great park in its own right not as good as cedar poin but still great
Same. But apparently Kennywood wood is the biggest park that Palace owns. The second biggest is half the size of Kennywood. I didn’t know this until I went to orientation there for a job I got.
I’m a Western PA local. Ride the Black Widow at night. Everything is lit up and the fountain is let with all these colorful lights and it’s absolutely gorgeous from that thrill ride-height view!
Just returned to the park after an almost 20 year gap. Glad to see it was still holding strong. The Old Mill has been restored, what a classic dark ride. Phantom is still a knee shaking hyper with the river dive through the Thunderbolt. The old woodies are still classic and I also realized Kennywood might be home of the double-down. Phantom and Jack Rabbit both have one.
very nice review!!! I will be visiting on the opening day of 2016 which is on May 7th. In very excited, Kennywood is my home park! I hope you visit again soon!
Kennywood is my home park. It is enjoyable but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit if I didn't already live near Pittsburgh. The Phantom's Revenge is one of my favorite coasters and their classic wood coasters are a lot of fun even though they aren't crazy fast. I actually don't like their new dark rides. I liked them better when they were the Old Mill (now Garfield's Nightmare) and the Gold Rusher (now Ghostwood Estate). I used to ride the old ones every time I visited, now I just skip the new ones. Nice review!
This is my home park go all the time can’t wait for steel curtain and hopefully 2020 will see the return of the old mill I seem to look around every time I’m there for places for new rides ever since I was young if you had trouble trying to figure out what to go on next you would go on the turtles until you figure it out but the phantoms revenge is my absolute favorite ride of all time in any park I’ve been in it’s the first serious roller coaster I’ve ridden and that second drop is the best drop on any coaster
You’ve got to check out Kennywood now! They’ve updated so much since this video came out. Shawn and Alex went in 2019 on their USA trip, but so much has happened even since then! Steel Curtain is open, Garfield’s Nightmare is the Old Mill again, Bayern Kurve, Paratroopers, Volcano, and the Kangaroo have all sadly been taken out and will be replaced. It’s definitely worth a trip back to the park!
I need to go to some great classic amusement parks in the future. Kennywood, definitely, Lake Compounce, and maybe also Holiday World. Some of those parks that are not as large as Six Flags or Cedar Fair
+Tony Kim Definitely hit up Holiday World. It has that small park feel to it, staff is pretty cool, and the three woodies and one steelie there are awesome. Not to mention you won't feel thirsty - free drinks!
***** Make sure you ride Voyage. Greatest woodie ever made IMO. Raven is a former #1 wooden coaster, and Legend is not too bad. And Thunderbird, the steelie (B&M Wing Coaster to be exact), is great in its own right. I agree with you on that "classic" wood coaster. Though these days, wooden coasters have been taken to the extreme with RMC redefining the wood coaster with loops and corkscrews, something unheard of on woodies back in the day.
***** RMC is a company that makes these redefined woodies (New Texas Giant, Twisted Colossus, etc). It isn't the name of an actual coaster. Sorry if I didn't make that clear. But I see what you're saying. Out of that list you mentioned, I have only ridden El Toro. Beast is on my bucket list, though.
Although, Kennywood is not the oldest park in the US, I would have to say, it held onto it's history better than any other park I've been to. Cedar Point is older, but, you would be hard pressed to find an attraction built before 1960.
What with the dual coaster, the 'old mill' type attraction and the Noah's Ark, the park that Kennywood most historically matches (in content , not park location-type) is Blackpool Pleasure Beach in Lancashire, England. In fact, Kennywood is sweetly mentioned on several plaques in the Blackpool park for being one of the very few other places to have those attractions. As for a wild mouse, that's a bit of a sore point with some at Blackpool now as Blackpool recently demolished their classic outdoor Wild Mouse, after around 60 years of operation, to build the Icon steel coaster. (alas, Blackpool's historical crown jewel, an ambitious 1930s modernist masterpiece Funhouse by proper architect Joseph Emberton, was strangely destroyed by fire in the 1990s, leaving just the maniacal clown standing outside in its glass case. Ironically (unsympathetically?) the park built a water ride with fire elements in it, Valhalla, as replacement - popular, a one off, but also kind of big and dumb. Blackpool itself is a fascinating place, with the Eiffel Tower top style Blackpool Tower and entertainment inside, (including a cicus, ballroom and other attractions) , trams down the huge seafront, 3 piers, and the Winter Gardens labyrinthian complex of music / theatre halls and fantastic period themed rooms like the inside of a ship). However , Lightwater Valley in North Yorkshire (home to the world's second longest, once longest, rollercoaster in length - and also in time - around 6 minutes, partly because of its deliberately slow hill lift and large amount of available surrounding countryside) contains a dark ride Scwarzkopf Wildcat coaster, formerly called The Rat with rat shaped cars and accessed via an authentic sewer type tunnel with rat noises. Now called Raptor Attack and being a bit 'Jurassic Park', it now has more standard 'mine cart' trains.
small corection on the thunderbolt the partner needed rule is actully because someone died because they stood up while on the chain hill also you say they capture the oldtime amusment park look and feel thats because it is all the old buildings rides and architecture was built during the time it looks like it came out of very little changes there mainly because none wants it to change
Kennywood has been compared to Tivoli. It's a beautiful park with lots of shade trees, beautiful flowers and amazing landscaping. You can sit on the many benches to people watch, sit and eat or just take a break. Old Kennywood is a throwback to the parks such as Tivoli and the history of Kennywood as a Trolley Picnic Park. Many days are "ethnic" days such as Italian Day, German Day, etc. Schools from around the area have their school picnics here. You can also bring your own food and set up in one of the many pavilions or picnic tables. There is also a nice lake in the middle of the park and a performing stage by the lake. Lots of live entertainment too. If someone tells you, "Hey, Kennywood's open!", that means your fly is down LOL. The coasters are award winners and Kennywood tries to keep up with the times. There's so much to do at Kennywood for the young and the old. You won't find another park like it and it's a place where memories are made.
Here's a unique Kennywood memory. I'm a volunteer firefighter and we were called for a search detail. Someone from the town over was reported missing. Someone called 911 and said they might have saw them in the park. (They were later found close to their home) This was during the Fright Nights Halloween event. We walked through each jointed haunted house (most of them were open at the time). We were there from about 10pm to 3-4 am. During a regroup a few of us were able to take a nap in the tunnel. Something not many can say.
OMG Taylor, Last night I had a dream with you in it. We were are Six flags and I was on a school field trip! When I was there I met you. We talked about UA-cam and coaster stats.
I live in West Mifflin,PA just 20-25 minutes near Pittsburgh this is my home park I enjoy going every year I even performed at this park 4 years at HS its awesome and yeah
I live in Ohio but me and my family make the 2 hour trip to this park every year. We cannot afford Cedar Point so this is perfect. If you get their cabanas, you can sit down in a cool and shaded area while you are not riding. If you are in the area you should consider going to this park alot more
Steve Schillinger not to be rude but this kinda confuses me cedar points ticket prices are only five dollars more than Kennywood plus if u are renting cabana s that's more money but glad u love the park it's my favorite aswell
I live about 15 minutes from it. I actually am currently working at the steel mill across the river so it’s kinda interesting. Kennywood has always been somewhere I went in the summer but always wished I was a cedar point lol. I’d much rather drive the 4 hours to cedar point or the 5 hours to the six flags in New Jersey. Kennywood will never be the big, steel roller coaster filled destination I crave. I am hoping they will RMC the thunderbolt though, after recently riding steel Vengance at cedar point, I think all wood coasters should be renovated into hybrids. So much fun
Out of the many times I’ve been to kennywood I have never seen the chairlift running. But then again I’ve never gone when it’s so packed that they had to use the upper lot
They have removed many of their family rides... I don't know if they did it to deal with covid times... but they also have a new coaster -- the steel curtain --- which is partnered with the NFL/Steelers. I'd say it'd be worth revisiting in a few years to see how things change
5:38-5:44, I gotta say again, that's probably the fastest I've ever seen one of those Paratrooper rides go. I don't remember the one at Rehoboth Beach ever going THAT fast.
I go to kennywood many times every year and i haven't seen the skyride open in about 7 years. To get to the upper lot there is now an escalator instead.
The coolest thing about the Thunderbolt is that the last drop is actually the biggest drop on the whole ride. I think it's the only coaster in the world like this, and is part of why I think Thunderbolt is the best paced coaster I've ever been on, it starts out awesome and only gets better to the grand finale. Most coasters start with their climax, not Thunderbolt.
I grew up outside of Pittsburgh and Kennywood is my favorite park by far. The classic coasters and historic rides make it special. Also it is one of those parks that come to life after dark. Everything lights up. It is just so beautiful. Riding the Thunderbolt at night is the best. And the fries are the best late in the season.
you nailed it David
Yep, nailed it! It's February and I am watching this just counting the days until "Kennywood's open" 😉

The creepy Old Mill (Garfield ride) was always the spot for couples to have some alone time. The Garfield switch killed the vibe.
Krista Roman They actually might convert it back this winter
Been this year and it didn't happen but there building Thomas town
Krista Roman I visited the park for the first time yesterday (loved it!), and when I rode this ride all I could think of was what a disaster the re-theming choice was. As a former Sandcastle lifeguard, I can tell you they've migrated over to the Lazy River.

Robert Harvey hey im 13, I go there every year at least 20 times
I go like 50 times im 12
So much to pass along on to my children and grandchildren. So many wonderful memories that I have to cherish within, also along with many friends and family.
I miss it when the Garfield ride was called the old mill. It was actually really creepy as a kid
Yeah I hope it comes back
i miss le cachot that was my fav kennywood dark ride when i was a kid
It's coming back!
It’s coming back!

Our family ventures to Kennywood multiple times a year, the classic park that doesn't disappoint.
If your from Pittsburgh you 100% remember that fuzzy feeling you would get when going to kennywood because of nostalgia
Really great review. I am from Pitt and have been to Kennywood too many times to remember. But I liked your review because it reminded me the things about the park I take for granted. I’m from Pittsburgh and it’s really nice to have someone to give Kennywood some spotlight for once
I enjoy the reviews. Kennywood is one of my happy place. I love the coasters, the good food, and the whole park in general. Thanks!
The smell of kennywood gets me every time grew up in Pittsburgh in the summers so I'd go here every year deff a unique fun filled park

+Alec Stebick really?
Don't know if you are lying or not, but if you did, where did you sit?
Lucky you to have gotten $100! Last time I went on the Phantom’s Revenge some kid dropped his phone and I think it almost hit my uncle.
Man lucky. When I went on it once me and my brother almost got hit with a bunch of loose change.
I liked the earlier Steel Phantom with the loops. It was much harsher and bounced your head around. And it bounced your head around.
Kennywood is my home park and I just want to say that this park definitely has a lot of charm!
I went to Kennywood once back in 2003, my favorite ride there was the Raging Rapids, I also rode the Racer and it was a lot of fun!!!
I live like 10 minutes away from Kennywood, it is the park that got me into rollercoasters (you can probably tell because my username has Coaster in it) it was a great time and I can't wait to go back there again!
"Garfield" was originally "the Old Mill" in 1901, yes, 1901
I go to Kennywood almost every year and I love it
Rick Sebak's Kennywood Memories makes everyone fall in love with Kennywood.
Kennywood is just amazing!

That chairlift is always broken like the volcano
I rode the volcano on one of the last days of July and it was open.
Wrong, the cosmic one right next to it is always broken
Wrong lol sky rockets been closed for a while
Meepers closed for the summer i think
Stevie Wonder yesterday the volcano actually worked and I was so happy!
My favorite ride was probably the phantom, but I loved how smooth Sky Rocket was. It was like riding on a stick of butter.
+Christian the Coaster Guy Haha
I live in Pittsburgh and I get season passes here all the time. My favorite costed is the thunderbolt but those turns are wicked.
I've been here every year of my life, I'm 14. I love it.

My favorite coaster is the jack rabbit😎
me too
Karen Gonofsky same
Guess you've never rode the Phantom.
Kennywood is my home park, what I really reccommend to try is the Black Widow in My opoinion it's the best ride there.
I live in Pittsburgh and it’s prob my favorite park so far, because it’s great for all ages. Not parks like cedar point, or six flags
small corection on the thunderbolt the partner needed rule is actully because someone died because they stood up while on the chain hill
also you say they capture the oldtime amusment park look and feel thats because it is all the old buildings rides and architecture was built during the time it looks like it came out of very little changes there mainly because none wants it to change
You'll have to come back for the 2019 season. Kennywood is launching a new roller coaster and an entire new section of the park.
The sky lift actually never works... Ive been there at least 20 times with my season pass and none of those times have i seen it work...
it does work not a lot a ppl ride it and it runs and stops running at sertin times
OMG Taylor, Last night I had a dream with you in it. We were are Six flags and I was on a school field trip! When I was there I met you. We talked about UA-cam and coaster stats.
that's such a cool dream!!
Tejas Murthy I know, right!
My favorite ride is the swing shot😍
2:23 the logs look like 2 arms holding hands :)
This place has fast passes coming this year. Is a fast past worth investing in for a one day visit (I plan to ride steel curtain).
Definitely on my 2019 list thanks to Steel Curtain!
It’s super nice there, I’ve personally have never seen the sky ride working.
This is my home park, please don't hurt it to to much.
I live in West Mifflin,PA just 20-25 minutes near Pittsburgh this is my home park I enjoy going every year
I even performed at this park 4 years at HS its awesome and yeah
Noah's Ark is the #1 walkthrough according to Golden Ticket Awards
I'll be going there along with Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Great Adventure next summer after Ocean City!
KENNYWOOD IS AWESOME my favorite ride is the Thunderbolt
I live in Ohio but me and my family make the 2 hour trip to this park every year. We cannot afford Cedar Point so this is perfect. If you get their cabanas, you can sit down in a cool and shaded area while you are not riding. If you are in the area you should consider going to this park alot more
Steve Schillinger not to be rude but this kinda confuses me cedar points ticket prices are only five dollars more than Kennywood plus if u are renting cabana s that's more money but glad u love the park it's my favorite aswell
I always wondered what that lift was for in the parki g lot.
I love it there I went 5 times last year and my favorite ride is skyrocket and Arrow 360
um paratropper and kangaroo are family rides not kid rides
This is a great park. Once a year a friend and I go for a day. Also many schools in the area have a Kennywood picnic.
So much fun
I love the Sky Rocket. It's such a good ride in my opinion.
My Dad lives 1 minute from Kennywood so I grew up there! 0:42 R.I.P Log Jammer. It’s gone
I'm going next year! Can't wait!
I live 15 mins away from kennywood it's a really nice park if say I go there about 3 times a year so much fun favorite ride is thunderbolt
Out of the many times I’ve been to kennywood I have never seen the chairlift running. But then again I’ve never gone when it’s so packed that they had to use the upper lot
This is my home park. Love it.
I love to go to kennywood my fave roller coasters have to be the sky rocket and the thunder bolt the is the Pittsburg plunge still there?
Yea
Pittsburgh plunge is still the there but the log jammer is not.
They have removed many of their family rides... I don't know if they did it to deal with covid times... but they also have a new coaster -- the steel curtain --- which is partnered with the NFL/Steelers. I'd say it'd be worth revisiting in a few years to see how things change
Headed here Next Saturday hopefully 👌
4:15 THAT’S OUR KING 👑👑👑👑👑👑👑
U need to go back to review the new coaster coming out this season called steel curtain
Wow, this looks awesome!
+Six Flags America Enlightenment Leader OH HELL NO NOT ANOTHER ENLIGHTENMENT LEADER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been to Kennywood at least once a year since I was born and never have I seen the ski-lift chairs thingy in the parking lot actually work
5:38-5:44, I gotta say again, that's probably the fastest I've ever seen one of those Paratrooper rides go. I don't remember the one at Rehoboth Beach ever going THAT fast.
+Matthew Miller The one at Fun Spot America(Orlando) goes about that speed, if not faster.
Did you remember to mention park operations?
I live in Pittsburgh so it is my home park and i love it
I went yesterday so for me it is really good.
I go to kennywood many times every year and i haven't seen the skyride open in about 7 years. To get to the upper lot there is now an escalator instead.
Dat boi lives on in my heart I actullay was on it about 3 years ago
I love it here im going again on the 26th and my favorite ride is phantom
Can cedar point get bins on steel vengeance
The coolest thing about the Thunderbolt is that the last drop is actually the biggest drop on the whole ride. I think it's the only coaster in the world like this, and is part of why I think Thunderbolt is the best paced coaster I've ever been on, it starts out awesome and only gets better to the grand finale. Most coasters start with their climax, not Thunderbolt.
