WOO PITTSBURGH REPRESENT! Kennywood for life! My uncle has worked at Kennywood for like 40 years now so you could say the park has a close spot in my heart
It was gay they turned it into a wussy ride cause a few people whined. Takeout loops and put in bumps. Go to kiddieland if you can't handle it. Well I'm not surprised it's was the begining of the pussification of America. Bring back action park. I don't want safe I want dangerous. But if a kid scrapes his elbow has 13 ambulances and 45 firetrucks. Pussification of America.
Yay, they fucked up our ride and took out EVERY inversion. I understand that the way they did it was fucked, but they should've tooled in at least 1 inversion.I get everyone was happy that it came back, but I bet the disappointment was immense in some cases. Wish I would've got to ride the original.
I rode the Phantom during its first season. NOBODY was prepared for how much it hurt. The thing is, the shoulder harness locked down over your head, on both sides. The speed and inertia would rattle your skull between them, repeatedly bouncing them off the hard harness. It was worse if you were lighter. Next season, we all knew to press your head to one side, and when the rattling would start. That's why it still has so many fans: It was a coaster you almost had to know how to ride.
yes finally kennywood makes it!! growing up in Pittsburgh going to kennywood is at least an annual occurrence, it’s so cool to see it recognized!! The only thing that i think makes this ride cooler is the fact that it’s in the middle of the park, so you can hear the iconic click-click of the chain lift echo throughout the park...so scary to me as a kid!!
My family is from Greene County. Every summer I would visit Grandma and Grandpa. We used to go to Kennywood every summer. I remember getting to ride both coasters. It still has been the only coaster that actually made me scream.
The pull-out on Steel Phantom (and to a slightly lesser extent Phantom’s Revenge) was so freakin tight. It held that steepest angle for sooooo looooong then BAM!
I subscribed because of this video and FINALLY a video from you on Kennywood!! Please look into doing more from this park! So many great memories, awesome coasters and classic rides that I've never found at any other park! I still travel here every year since I moved out of the area, it's worth the repeat trip every year!
This is well researched and accurate. Kennywood is my home park and Phantom's Revenge is my #1 there. Road both the Laser Loop and then the Steel Phantom too. She was generous with guaranteed grey outs in the back seat and the customary Arrow headbanging headache. All riders were required to remove all earings or no ride. Morgan made the coaster into a legend imo.
I remember when it opened. I was just 7 years old in 91 but I rode it the first summer it was open and recall getting a massive headache on it. I got an “I survived the Steel Phantom” t shirt that I wish I held on to.
Yeah attention for ruining an awesome coaster cause a bunch of @#$nts that belong in kiddieland. Makes no sense take out awesome inversions to put in bumps. They need to restore it and tell people that are going to whine(I mean it's a rollercoaster) to go to kiddieland.
As a lover of arrow dynamics this is a bucket list coaster for sure and it's so cool that this coaster is a hybrid of old and new and almost a father and son creation , when Ron tomey first started designing the cork screws layouts all he had was a piece of wire, when Morgan's son redid this one he had cad to make it smooth and people forget that when these coasters poped up in the 70"s everything was smooth as silk as per the new tracks, so far my favorite arrows are loc ness and mm viper , and of course the baddest ass coaster to ever live the magnum ceder point better not tear it down its one of the all time greats, anyone here ever ride the crystal beach cyclone, or the comet, was interesting to live in a time where I rode old turn of the century coasters like the comet then ride when I was older to ride ttd what an awesome keep of tech
my dad was 39 or so when he rode this thing and he came off it. considered. then went "that's a little too much coaster for anybody" and nodded to himself. He rode it in the mid 90s and that mfer WENT. he's in his mid 60s now and still rides absolutely anything, anywhere, without a blink. ...except Soarin'. He thought Soarin' was malfunctioning and we were going to go head first into the static structures. Didn't realize it was just a screen. Bless his heart.
My favorite steel coaster is still my first roller coaster I had ever been on "The Mind Eraser" at my home park Geauga Lake. The home town park lost by greed RIP Geauga Lake
I was born in Pittsburgh, my whole family is from there, and my grandma grew up going to Kennywood. While Kennywood isn’t my home park exactly (I live right next to HersheyPark now, so that’s my home park), it means so much to me that you would do a video on it! You’re one of my favorite and most-watched channels, so this is like a great combination of two awesome worlds!
I am writing this comment before I even finish the video. Thank you for making a video about my favorite park in the world. It’s a hometown favorite and though I live far from it now, I’m visiting it come summer. I have a deep love of this park and any video on the subject makes me happy. I love the amazing job you do on every video. Take care!
I live super close to Kennywood. Rode PR around 50 times last year alone, and I even rode it the week it opened back in the day. It's such a strange hybrid with some operating quirks, but it just fits the park so well that it feels like it was what was supposed to be there in the first place. One minor issue: I am fairly certain that Kennywood planned to revamp Steel Phantom from the moment they announced "removal." A rehab project like that could not have possibly been planned over a couple of months. The park wasn't part of a big corporation at the time and couldn't have possibly afforded to replace its signature attraction outright. The ultimate decision to revamp the back half of Phantom was made well before the news went public.
Thanks so much for making this video! Kennywood is such an underrated gem of a park, that I've been going to since I was born in 1995. Essentially growing up alongside the phantoms revenge. As a local and a huge fan of Kennywood, you got everything correct, as far as I can tell. (Though I'm the future, it might be good to mention Kennywood's famous and historic wooden coasters, especially since the racer is the last of it's kind in the world.) Also, I greatly look forward to the opening of Steel Curtian, a major coaster addition for the park! And if you'd like any help with Kennywood videos, feel free to reach out! It's such an amazing place! Have a nice day, and know that this video really made my day!
Tyler Rusnak So glad that someone else was so excited to see this video! I am also a local, similarly growing up as a Phantom lover, so it’s neat so hear from someone else that loves Kennywood like I do. Steel Curtain is going to be so awesome, I can’t wait to ride it! Have an awesome day, mate :)
Love Kennywood..Used to go there and Geuaga Lake as a kid and all the others in the area.. Alot of those family type picnic parks in that area are mostly closed though.. Its a shame
One other thing I remember about the redo was a quote from Harry Henninger was that certain people would not even look at any ride with inversions. So he figured it would have a larger audience. Also removing the inversions and the over head restraints meant you could keep your earrings on.
Harry Henninger loved the Laser Loop. One of the reasons Steel Phantom kept the vertical loop and the fast station re-entry. It's a shame they weren't able to find a way to keep both, or bring back the Loop for Lost Kennywood. I haven't been back to the park since Steel Phantom's last season in 2000, but I hope to one day get my first ride on Revenge.
Thank you so much for giving Kennywood some spotlight. I’ve lived in Pittsburgh my whole life and Kennywood has always been the highlight of my summers. It’s a hidden gem mixing the old type of rides with newer ride types. I’d love to see you cover The Steel Curtain that just opened there last year, as it broke the records for tallest inversion in the world and and most inversions in North America.
Thank you! Kennywood is my local park and we all dearly love it here. It has such a rich history. Anyone who enjoys amusement parks should know about Kennywood.
I can say with certainty that the comment he made in the video about the stress cracks in the track were true.... I worked for a PGH software company that helped try to solve the problem and later had to reveal that there was no way to salvage the original design without expensive maintenance and track replacement...... They tried braking the cars but then found they would not have enough speed to make it thru the inversions. They talked about extending the track a bit to allow the car to slow down on its own.... Once again no dice.... We also worked with NASA and a few other places but the Kennywood story was always my favorite/proudest moment of working for them....
Used to go to Kennywood when I went to school out towards Pittsburgh. Phantoms Revenge at night for Fright Night is crazy fun. And Fun Fact: Pittsburgh had a pro roller hockey team back in the 90s who used the Phantom name and near identical logo from the roller coaster.
I grew up with Kennywood, school field trips, family time, and it also was Allegheny Ludlum - Now ATI my father worked with had work picnics there. My father and I just weren't coaster people so we did other things but when Steel Phantom went in I know my mother and sister road it. Don't recall her riding many if any coasters after the Steel Phantom but she did say that ride hurt and wasn't smooth so I know of a lot of what's mentioned in the video seeing family ride it. Thanks for another awesome video. I joined recently to follow your you tube videos and saw this in previous videos so had to watch.
The steel phantom was better but a bunch of fairies that belong in kiddieland whined. I'm all about a dangerous park like action park, but sjws ruin everything.
Another excellent video! Phantom has continued to be my favorite hyper even after I've ridden many more in recent years, but that might have more to do with the fact that I grew up riding it at least once every Summer. That second drop during Fright Night when the ravine gets filled with fog? Perfection.
My home park! Lately, I have been very bored of the park. They have not added anything interesting lately. Luckily, they are building Steel Curtain!!! Still, Phantom's Revenge is a must everytime I go there. Thanks for the vid!
My current favorite steel roller-coaster is The Cannibal at Lagoon Utah. Though, I'm probably a bit biased, since this is my home park that I visit multiple times every season.
As someone who grew up going to Kennywood, I say you did a great job! I grew up 20 minutes from the park and I remember my dad loved the phantom. They had a little phantom coaster in kiddie land (still there, and lovingly called the dumpsters). My first time on a roller coaster was phantoms revenge. I remember how it took my breath away on the drop. Now me and my fiance annually ride it in summer and at phantom fright nights (Kennywoods Halloween). And steel curtain is supposed to be amazing!!! Keep up the good work - S from Pittsburgh PA
Pittsburgh local and local that you did kennywood. I’m not a huge fan of rollercoasters but I remember the complaints from people from the steel phantom. Love that you put in the blurb about the steel curtain too. There’s plenty more rides you should do for kennywood too.
I'm a Pittsburgh native and still happily call it my home. I was always too short to ride the original Phantom, but I've ridden the Revenge a few times. I still prefer the Loch Ness Monster at Bush Gardens. I plan to go to Carrowinds this year and see what it's like to ride the Intimidator and Copperhead Strike
Even with the trim breaks before first loop, if you sat near the front you had to brace your head back, or your head would fly forward. Had to ride it pretty aggressive to prevent head banging through rest of the loops and bottom of second hill.
My hometown park! I was always too little to go on the original Phantom, so I never got to experience it. Phantom’s Revenge is great, though! My second favorite in the park after the Thunderbolt. Hope to see more Kennywood videos from you in the future! :)
This my home park and you have finally told me why they took out the information cus there was soooooo many random rumors about it thank so much big bugs and keep up the good work ❣❣
Steel Phantom was the best coaster ever! I remember girls who refused to take their earrings out would sometimes have blood running down their necks because your head would bounce off the restraints and their earrings would stab them! That shit wouldn't fly today! The 90's were the best!
I've only been to Kennywood once, and really only got to do half the rides because I didn't get around to Exterminator, the Sky Rocket was down, the kiddie coaster was down (gotta get that credit!), and oh, they're adding a brand-spanking-new record-breaking coaster the next year. In spite of all of that, it was completely worth it to be able to go on Phantom's Revenge. It's THAT good. Phantom is an absolutely AMAZING ride, especially the airtime hills at the end. It isn't my favorite hyper, but it's a close second to Magnum. I WOULD say that Phantom, and by extension Magnum, are a hair better than Millennium Force (I said it). Both ride's airtime is just CRAZY. I never went to Kennywood before the renovation (wasn't even born in fact), but I can't possibly imagine the change NOT being for the better. Morgan essentially pulled an RMC BEFORE RMC was a thing. Which is pretty cool, I must say. So overall, Phantom's Revenge is a great ride (the wooden coasters are great too!).
@@muffinknight8101 That's what I've heard, though I'd have still liked to ride them to decide for myself. Also, I would've liked to try the VR on Sky Rocket; that's actually why it was down, they were testing the VR on it. Which is a dumb reason to be down if you ask me. At least open it for part of the day!
alex seidner skyrocket was down all season because a part of the launch mechanism broke and they had to ship it overseas to have it fixed I still have yet to see any vr on in even though it was announced a few years ago plus it’s up charge anyway
What is your number 1 Steel Coaster in the world? Let me know and you may see it covered in the future.
My #1 is Intimidator 305.
Fury 325 is a close second I just prefer intensity.
I305 is my #1 too, but I think that'll change when I get to Cedar Point this summer.

i hate roller coasters tbh but the first one i ever rode was the desperado in Las Vegas

What does he look like I have season pass I will look out for him lol
kennywood is great
You don't sound biased at all
@@coastaku1954 nope totally non bias
I remember when the phantoms revenge opened. The entire park was buzzing, it was like a dance party in the queue with the music booming. It was great.

Crazy to watch My Hometown amusement park and one of my favorite rides on one of these videos
Same! Just went there today!!
Morgan did a spectacular job with this coaster. I couldnt believe how smooth it is
Depends if your skinny or not,the skinnier you are,the more airtime you get.
I LOVE this ride. It’s insane. Some of the best airtime you can possibly get.
yes finally kennywood makes it!! growing up in Pittsburgh going to kennywood is at least an annual occurrence, it’s so cool to see it recognized!! Oh my gosh, I remember when I was a little girl I would be so scared hearing it until I got big enough to ride it myself.
It would be better if people weren't wussies and we still had loops instead of dumb bumps. You can't handle it ride some bs kiddieland ride.
My family is from Greene County. Every summer I would visit Grandma and Grandpa. We used to go to Kennywood every summer. I remember getting to ride both coasters. It still has been the only coaster that actually made me scream.

Hello from The Burgh! Always love to see my classic home park get some attention from the coaster community!
what's your favorite classic ride at Kennywood?
Oh, I can never pick. Jack Rabbit's air time is unmatched but Thunderbolt beats it in terms of sheer intensity.
I like the Racer

Yeah attention for ruining an awesome coaster cause a bunch of @#$nts that belong in kiddieland. Makes no sense take out awesome inversions to put in bumps. They need to restore it and tell people that are going to whine(I mean it's a rollercoaster) to go to kiddieland.

Even with the trim breaks before first loop, if you sat near the front you had to brace your head back, or your head would fly forward. Had to ride it pretty aggressive to prevent head banging through rest of the loops and bottom of second hill.
Phantoms revenge is also pretty fun as well with the steel curtain
My hometown park! I was always too little to go on the original Phantom, so I never got to experience it. Phantom’s Revenge is great, though! My second favorite in the park after the Thunderbolt. Hope to see more Kennywood videos from you in the future! :)
This my home park and you have finally told me why they took out the information cus there was soooooo many random rumors about it thank so much big bugs and keep up the good work ❣❣
Been watching for a few week now, really enjoying your content! Keep it up!
Steel Phantom was the best coaster ever! I remember girls who refused to take their earrings out would sometimes have blood running down their necks because your head would bounce off the restraints and their earrings would stab them! That shit wouldn't fly today! The 90's were the best!
I think it is cool they listened to people and instead of scrapping it, renovated it for a better experience.
I LOVE KENNYWOOD SO MUCH
That track moving at 5:57!
i was just about to comment the smiler and then the theme song started playing!!!!!!!
Phantom's Revenge is going to have some competition with the new Steel Curtain
I have been waiting for someone to do this video. Awesome job!
Fun fact that mushroom water fountain in that old video is still there to this day
I've only been to Kennywood once, and really only got to do half the rides because I didn't get around to Exterminator, the Sky Rocket was down, the kiddie coaster was down (gotta get that credit!), and oh, they're adding a brand-spanking-new record-breaking coaster the next year. So overall, Phantom's Revenge is a great ride (the wooden coasters are great too!).
alex seidner exterminator is really good for a wild mouse and sky rocket is really lame
@@muffinknight8101 That's what I've heard, though I'd have still liked to ride them to decide for myself. Also, I would've liked to try the VR on Sky Rocket; that's actually why it was down, they were testing the VR on it. Which is a dumb reason to be down if you ask me. At least open it for part of the day!
alex seidner when did u go
@@muffinknight8101 Late June last year
alex seidner skyrocket was down all season because a part of the launch mechanism broke and they had to ship it overseas to have it fixed I still have yet to see any vr on in even though it was announced a few years ago plus it’s up charge anyway
The Smiler theme song?
Hmm… That’s Suspicious…
Edit: oh, i’m the outstanding comment?
Uhhhh…hi…
LOL! It ended up being a whole new (almost) roller-coaster after all!
The last enversion is crazy especially if you are scared of roller coaster
This is a really cool Episode. Thank you!
Love seeing parks that my family has taken me too
