I left Pittsburgh in the early 80s but this video brought back all those great Kennywood memories from my childhood. Thanks for the trip "dahn" memory lane.
@@joeheid4757 They HAD to bring THAT one back! How the he** can you have a KANGAROO as the chief mascot and NOT have the KANGAROO ride! That's blasphemy!!
I grew up in West Mifflin in the 70s. School picnic day at Kennywood was the highlight of the year. And my Dad was just like this. LOVE IT LOVE IT. thanks for bringing back some good memories. gotta love a Pittsburgh Dad.
One of my favorite memories of high school when I lived in western PA was our school field trip to Kennywood. As someone who is originally from the South, that was my first time to Kennywood and I gotta say it was amazing. There's three things I've never done before moving to western PA: 1. Go to Pittsburgh (which is a very underrated city), 2. Watch hockey/become a hockey fan (my teams are the Hurricanes and Penguins), and 3. Go to Kennywood. For anyone who has never done any of these three things, definitely reccomend it. Pittsburgh has a lot to offer. Hockey is a sport that I never really followed, but while living in western PA, I've became a fan of and absolutely love watching. And going to Kennywood. Definitely reccomend that place. My personal favorites are The Phantom's Revenge, Black Widow, and the Aero 360. Only thing I don't like about that area is the cold lol. But if you can look past that, western Pennsylvania is an awesome place to visit. Oh yeah, one more recommendation for any watching this who has never been to western PA or Pittsburgh, I got 2 words for you: Primanti Bros. You'll thank me later lol. Take care. Also, Let's Go Canes and Let's Go Pens.
Kennywood is practically my backyard, I effin love it....sooooo many great memories!!! Nuthin' like coolin off on the ragin' rapids or howz bout dem bumper cars n' at! Who remembers the Le Catchot?
I was in this video running away from my mom with my brother in the beginning she’s since passed away but this is a great memory it’s one of the only videos I haven left with my mom
"Where'd you get that fried chicken? Aw, you can't just go to the Westinghouse pavilion and start takin' whatever you want out of the coolers. Unless you work for Bettis now." As a former Westinghouse employee, I'm one of the 3% of the audience that gets the fullness of this joke. Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory (located in the same neighborhood as Kennywood, but on the other side of the hill) is a government-owned contractor-operated national laboratory which develops reactors for the nuclear navy. From 1949-1998 it was operated by Westinghouse. In 1998 Westinghouse decided to divest itself of the contract, so the contract/operations of the facility (including all of the employees) were sold to Bechtel Corporation. So all the old-timers at Bettis used to work for Westinghouse. Hence their perceived license to steal from the Westinghouse pavilion coolers.
"They ain't gonna refill 'at ol' souvneer cup. It's got the Laser Loop awn it, fer cryin aht lahd!" Best line in the whole video, maybe. Also liked "They used to have a haunted hahs, it was called 'Le Catchit' which is France for the dungeon". Man I need to get back to Kennywood. So many memories, first kiss (summer of '85), first time I got grahnded for real (came home too late), the arcades, the food, the smells, the NOISE. Summer... Thanks for the blast from the past.
The night scenes and Laser Loop reference may have been intended as shoutouts to a 1980s documentary on the park we all know around here. It was for our PBS affiliates.
"No mom, it's not the Pippin no more, it's the Thunderbolt. It's over by the Goldrush." The Goldrush is now gone too, and was at the time of the video, so its a multi-generation ageist joke
Grew up in south hills in the 60's and 70's. So great to see that the Thunderbolt, Racer, Noah's Ark and a bunch of other things still there from the old days. Does anyone remember Westview Park? It was ancient when I was a kid. It's got to be gone now. Good job Dad!
My favorite is the Dippin' Dots line. "You want what?" "Dippin' Dots?" "What are those?" "Ice cream of the future?" "Yeah, that's when you'll get some, in the future!"
Worked at Kennywood for years. This was a major blast from the past for me. Thanks guys. So perfect. Sent it to one of my best friends from days working there ;)
Just found Pittsburgh Dad today. I love it. I grew up in the burgh but have been away for a long time. I love hearing people talk like that it is great.
The best part is the nite when all the lights are lit up, it is magical. So many great memories, picnics at the Pavilion, School picnics and Slovak Day. Wish my kids could know those moments and the great experience of Kennywood.
So much nostalgia!!! I have lived away from SWPA for 16 years now and I always love coming "home". I can remember how excited I was everytime I walked through the tunnel to enter the park, when Noah's Ark was the whale, the Laser Loop, The Original Steel Phantom, The Rotor, The Jack Rabbit, La Cachot, and so much more. Thanks for bringing back some great memories for me.
More like a six flags, but with lots of history and character mixed in. Seriously, something for everybody. And been open sooo long. Huge Pittsburgh tradition. A few great wodden coasters. Love it. Go visit!
I've never been because I live in Cleveland and I go to Cedar Point. I dont have to go to Kennywood to know that Cedar Point is better. I would def go to Kennywood though.
EdEddnEddyonline1 I was very young when the Turnpike was torn down.. I found out about this ride about at least 5 years later... I wish it was still at Kennywood so I could ride it for the first time.
Anyone ever been to Knoebles I remember summers there as a kid it was in some small town like two hours from Mills it was a great old school Pennsylvania amusement park
I've been visiting my grandparents in Pittsburgh ever since I can remember (I'm 27) and I'm having flashbacks just from hearing that accent. Good times.
My dad took us to all those Westinghouse picnics. He'd get tickets from all the people that didn't go, so we closed the park, and Mum used to get so mad! Dad hated to leave with tickets in our pockets. You are a happy trip dahn memory lane. absolutely awesome
Summer of 1955; I sold tickets at Idlewild, so got free admission to Kennywood for myself and best friend. I have a picture of the two of us (girls) sitting on a park bench with 1955 on the top railing. Wish I could find that black and white snapshot). Off to ISTC i the fall (I U P, now, and she to nursing school in Latrobe. We had a great day. Better than any Six Flags in the whole U S of A.
I'm not even from Pittsburgh, but watching these hilarious videos makes me want to vacation there someday. Definitely going to Kennywood, PNC pahk, downtahn, and looking for the ice cream truck too. Thanks for the great laughs.

I loved this. Memories of Sacred Heart school picnics, swimming at the big pool, and taking my kids (then 14 and 9) to Kenneywood about 10 years ago on a visit to my mom's. Also enthralled by the Pittsburghese and accent throughout!

I miss Pittsburgh horribly, moved to Texas,no one could understand a thing I said!
crazyquiltmom , Do you remember West View Park? Really scary old wooden roller coasters. I remember the Pippin!
Welp new owner getting rid of everything even the Kangaroo, they don't get it and it's making me so upset
The ride home from Kennywood is under rated. It is so relaxing yet exciting.
I know. Made me (Chris) chuckle every time I saw it during editing :)
@Pittsburgh Dad are you a big fan of Kenny kangaroo from Kennywood he’s my favorite that’s why I go to kennywood to go hangout with Kenny
