question............if I only want to mirror, could I use this exact set up but use and mhl cable instead of the chrome cast? I'd only have to add an hdmi to usb adapter for the rca box.........
it does, but does mirroring use my data plan? and does the phone still need to be a hot spot to mirror. I only want to use this set up to make my aftermarket stereo play audio and video from what's on my phone, while on the go, but I don't want to use more of my plan than it would if I just watch my phone in my hand. is this the case? is it the same?
thanks for answering if you're right is the factory radio, you can duplicate the phone screen but not as if hereafter I thank you discover if I dises, thanks friend
Could you get a cheap travel router and use that as part of the project? You'd have to set up the chomecast to connect to that automatically and then join that network on your phone.
I connected my Chromecast to the HDMI input into my DVD car headunit. I notice that I'm not getting any audio out (audio works fine on my TV.) Anyone else notice no audio being played through their car DVD headunit and their Chromecast?
i liked this setup but instead of a chromecast (making the setup complicated), i simply used the mhl on my phone. Depending on location you could also use miracast with a receiver.
Hi I am about to do this with Chromecast gen 2. Before I jump on to this setup I wonder if you can answer some of my questions. Do I have to have internet connection all the time to Chromecast to work or I can just turned on when it needs? Also can I just mirror my phone or tablet using the Chromecast. Is it only works just UA-cam and Netflix? All I want is mirror some videos (cartoon) to my factory rear DVD system for my daughter (I have RCA input). Thank you in advance
it can be done without internet. In that situation you would only be able to use local casting apps like allcast. Anything else you'd need internet for. Your phone is the source of the the internet for your chromecast when setup with hotspot.
tuminei yes, you should be able to stream a file directly with something like allcast and should be able to mirror your screen since those are done on the local network
update: I bought a Y usb cable that plugs straight into the stereo and it works great! everything else that was suggested is needed, but for power I didn't need to use a dc usb.
+J Zarate depends on the amperage of the USB port on the radio, not all radios output enough to run the chromecast, thats the same thing people that hook them to TV's sometimes run into, sometimes the USB ports are like 0.5 amp (which is the USB 2.0 standard for PC ports) which is not enough to power the chromecast. this becomes less of an issue the newer and better your headunit is, as the newer ones are designed to be powerful enough to charge modern smart phones.
So I have a Celica too and I want to know, how did you get your center console to have that nice glossy red color? I've been looking to make mine blue like that forever.
could I avoid the two phone trick by setting up miracast on my tv the chromecast and the phone I'll be using for mirroring, before I begin the install?
+Death Trap I tried this, The phone you will be mirroring will need to be the "hotspot" for the chromecast. other wise, it will always be looking for wifi.Once you set it up correctly, all you have to do is connect your phone to your stereo via hotspot. no need to do anything else, You wont need to open the chromecast app unless you need to mirror your entire screen.
+Thomas Ta after you set it up, your phone is the router, and the hotspot, and the controller. I think, maybe you can avoid using 2 phones, by naming your phone hotspot as your home wifi, but I'd have to reset mine to find out. you only need 2 phones (or a separate tablet. etc.)just for setup. after that, it's strictly a 1.phone deal.
You can technically set it up outside of the car. The location you set it up doesn't matter. Just need it to connect to the correct hotspot that you will be using
That's what I wanna do is mirror the screen. Thats the only way to watch browser content. There is no cast option from the Google chrome browser for phones. Only tablets and PCs have that, that I can see.
No. The reason for setting it up via a second device is only because the Chromecast can't see the main device when initially setting it up. After you use a second device to set the Chromecast up, you can then use the main device to cast. It's just for the initial set up process.
OK, after playing with this a few days, I'll give a few hints on this. IF you install the HDMI adaptor somewhere accessible, You can unplug the chromecast whenever, and use it in your house etc. Naming your wifi in your car exactly the same as your home wifi is necessary to do this if you don't feel like re doing your setup each time. (You will have to setup chromecast the same on both of the phones, even if you only use one)I actually mounted mine in one of those dash cubbies, The power plug for the Converter does take some space, at least 1 1/2 inches worth. There are henceforth 2 ways you will be using this setup, actual screen mirroring, which means your screen has to stay on all the time, or "casting" specific apps. Netflix, youtube, I Heart Radio, and pandora radio works flawless for casting apps. If anyone knows of a mapping app that casts, let me know, I haven't found one yet. Otherwise, screen casting is a royal pain to be honest. It means your phone screen has to be on the whole time, as opposed to casting an app. Since my screen on my phone is 5.7 Inches, and my alpine head unit is 6.5 Inches, there isn't much of an advantage. Look for apps that support "casting", and use that cast button. Data.. This thing HOGS data (it's video, duh). Luckily, I have tmobile, and unlimited Data. Unfortunately, even tmobile has hotspot limitations (i have the 2 gig free option). I need to use my note 3 and it's infrared blaster for work, but I would suggest if possible using an unlocked stock android phone, like the Nexus, or I have a one plus, where it doesn't "ask" for permission. My one plus reports tethering as actual phone usage. The Note 3 has a native app which communicates with tmobile on my tethering, and keeps track. Even when plugged into a 2.1 amp usb charger, The charge can barely keep up. Still, it'sa good idea to keep your phone plugged in. I even bought the official samsung MHL adaptor, and an HDMI cable. This is good for backup, however, it only "mirrors the screen" Using chromecast, and it's app casting is well worth it. I even tested it against some of the other high end units and their app radios, and I swear, I would run this exact setup the same way on a newer radio.
great tips. and I started this project when I had my small Nexus 4. I finished if after I got my Nexus 6 and realized my Nexus 6 was the same screen size as the radio and I just laughed Iol
So when you cast an app to the radio, will it play audio and everything just fine? And does it just use data off of your phone? But if you mirror the screen, it's only really good for navigation, since you wouldn't be able to use your radio's touchscreen as an input.
Yes, I heart radio and Pandora work well this way. There is no navigation cast app. Only way to do that is to cast chrome browser, and it kind of sucks that way.
Awesome video! Helped me figure out how to connect Chromecast without that silly WIFI connections, using 2 phones :) But now Chromecast does not show up on the screen, could it be something with the 1080p resolution? I have the same converter, HDMI2AV and Apple TV works but no Chromecast, only thru the actual HDMI port. I'm hooking it up in my Infiniti Q50 and it has the yellow video port.
Thinking about buying a Chromecast dongle for mirroring my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to my AppRadio w/HDMI input but Sprint wants to charge me $10 per month extra before they'll let me enable my phone's hotspot feature :-/ Is there any alternative wireless products that doesn't require the hotspot?
hah, I was doing it backwards. first phone has to have the Hotspot enabled. install and set up chromecast through the 2nd phone, or tablet. works perfect now.
So you have to be connected to one phones Hotspot all the time for you to be able to stream from the other phone? Or can you mirror with just the one phone after initial setup of the chromecast?
Any chance of doing some kind of update to this with newer phones? I've tried with my newer Oppo and despite getting it all set up correctly once I start trying to cast it seems as though the Wi-Fi casting overrides the hotspot and or visa versa and shuts me out completely disconnecting the Chromecast from the hotspot completely, I'm using a 2021 Oppo Find X3 pro and my 10" tablet and a new gen Chromecast into a pioneer avh-z700dab. theoretically it should still work but it doesn't seem to want to so I'm wondering if all the updates of versions and technology is making this more difficult than it used to be.
I bought the items mentioned in your video but decided to try it out in the house first. Once I got everything hooked up I can only get lines on my TV no picture. Do you have any suggestions?
michael german I had to swap two if the rca cables that plugged into the box because the pin out was incorrect. try swapping them around to find the correct combination
I tried that and i also tried two other set of cables but it didn't help. I checked both setting on the mini converter but still just lines. Im wondering if they sent me a faulty converter
I meant try swapping the yellow to the red, or the yellow to the white. Since there is no governing standard for pin outs on A/V aux cables they can be switched and therefore dont always plug into the correct color. Give it a try and lmk
i'm psyched about this option. I have appradio 3 and upgraded to galaxy s6. I haven't been able to use it like when i had galaxy 4. Do you know if there is a fix to this? Option 2 is chromecast. With that said, which do you think is best option? Your opinion will be very helpful
Let me get this straight; after the initial setup, using a secondary phone for the wifi hotspot and internet connectivity... you no longer need internet connectivity for the chromecast? (as long as you're casting "local" media) Does the chromecast now support wifi adhoc? ... and I thought the chromecast would "konk out" from whatever it is streaming/playing, within 30 seconds of loosing internet connectivity, even in the event it was present when the stream started (?) I Might be misunderstanding, might be my knowledge is flawed and/or outdated ... just hoping you can shine a light on how this works after initial setup.
pr0xZen You need an internet connection regardless of local content or not. The reason you need a second phone to setup the chromecast is because the main phone you will be using to cast content will be hosting the hotspot and when that happens the chromecast app itself doesnt think you are on wifi. So you use another android device connected to your hotpost to set up the chromecast. After initial setup is complete you can cast from the hotspot hosting phone.
So after the initial setup, you're able to cast local contents from a single phone, while that phone is (still) in hotspot mode? I guess maybe my real question here is, wether an Android in hot-spot mode, is connected to "its own network". Any rough ideas what kind of data ammounts you're looking at being transfered across 3/4G. when the actual casted media content is local..?
pr0xZen that is right. You can cast from the phone that your hosting the hot spot on. And in terms of data usage I don't really know. I have unlimited it's not something I really monitor much
Alot of us do these days. But if I understand correctly, one of the reasons for this is that the chromecast doesn't store any of the "apps" it uses, it fetches them online everytime they're used...? Data usage might matter if your cell coverage is poor. If you don't mind - could you check the Android data traffic stats, while "booting" and starting a cast?
Hi, I saw your video and I was amazed! do you think it is possible to do it with all types of car radios? I have a ford sync 2 without rca video input, thank you very much
I used your suggestions for my Kenwood Excelon DDX9905S. I have a 5th Gen 4Runner. However, the feedback from the RCA is awful. I've run it several ways, moved power supply to each component, etc. I can't seem to get rid of it. Did you have any issues with feedback or background noise?
The quality of the picture will be determined by the quality of the converter (rca to hdmi) and shielding within the unit and external. It might be worth looking into a higher end converter.
you can use the USB for power, but USB will not transfer any Audio/Video. Unless you have an hdmi input a converter is still necessary to produce an output that your head unit supports.
Thank you so if my head unit reads media from USB devices such as thumb drive it would not work if I use a hdmi to USB from the chrome cast to the input of the USB my car is a 2014 impala
+Chris Thomas USB ports in cars are intended to play media off a drive. it will never work as a input source other than that. so the USB port may only serve the purpose of providing power to a chromecast but can not provide anything else besides that.
do you need 2 phone all the time or just when you first get it? I'm planning on doing this setup soon but don't have Hotspot but will use someone else phone if I only need it one time
Once you have it set up and there is no hotspot for the phone. How do you use the GPS without a network connection? From what i understand your chorme cast will create a network that your phone will connect to, to broadcast the screen to. Once your phone creates / connects to that network to cast the internet will go away because you will lose 4G is this correct?
the opposite. Your phone acts as a wifi router that the chromecast connects to. Then your phone and the chromecast are on the same network. The reason you set it up with a different phone is because the chromecast won't initially recognize the phone when it's first connected to the hotspot. After it's setup, it'll cast fine.
I have one more ? inside my arm rest where I have the USBs and SD card I saw a head phone jack which I thought it was a jack for listening to music but when It appear on my radio monitor it said aux input so can that work if I buy all those stuff except the one for USB power cause I already have usb power
hello I've tried this for awhile with no good results. the person who installed my radio ran my aux cord out from the back so the end that's exposed to me is a male, can I just use a female to female and plug the aux cord in one end and the aux to rca in the other end. also do I set the radio to aux, av, usb or disc? I would assume aux. if so,there is a button on the button of the screen that says a/v change what does it have to be set to
since every radio is different I would not have the knowledge. however, you can refer to your user manual which should have all the information you need. also, this assumes your AUX port supports video. Does it support video? What does it say in the manual? Hope this helps, and please let me know what you find out.
so i have a Galaxy S5. and i put.. HDMI to chromecast, usb to power. (cig lighter) do i need the converter to tv or that box you have .. the problem i have now is that im using one phone and it tells me to disable hotspot to connect and find chromecast.. So if i use 2 phones to set it up like you did at the end then things should be fine right?
if you are seeing the Chromecast on your screen then no further wiring is needed. You have to do the wifi with another phone trick to set it up for the first time because when you are using hotspot it doesn't think you are on the same wifi network. the two phone connection happens once and then you can use hotspot as normal to cast
hey dude, can I get audio from my stock AUX from phone if I beam a video from iphone to chromecast? the chromecast will go into the converter box into the navtool. My NAVtool t doesn't accept audio, only composite video
Hey bro i need your help pls. I applied same process on my stereo as you and i got video signal too but its not stable also screen is not colored black an white. So do i need to try with another one 3.5 aux to rca cable or i used a regular USB port which are hook it up to circle lighter port for power of chromecast dongle. Do you any idea for my case thx a lot for any help
You might need a higher quality rca cable or a higher quality rca to HDMI box. Not all boxes and cables are quality so it's a gamble. Try to swap them out.
@@RWCustoms Thanks bro. I use same brand RCA box as you. So i might need to higher quality RCA cable as your opinion right? İ thought USB port output voltage range can ve effect that issue cause i dont know whats the output voltage which is came from lighter USB port. Do you think is could be depend on voltage or sth like tht?
Great video, just one question. how do you actuality cast screen once the initialization is done? It keeps telling me I need wifi. I'm asking cause I saw you do it, just didn't see how.
your phone should be broadcast the hotspot and your Chromecast should be on it. so casting is just the same as normal. open whatever you want to cast then click the cast button.
+Joshua Myers are you running 4.4 or higher? And some phones just won't work, even if you have 4.4+ on a rom. example, the galaxy S3 with a rom of 4.4+ won't allow screen to cast even though the feature is right there in the software.
hi i got a Pioneer AVH 211EX i am using the av to rca jack (from my android box) plug into the aux/av in the back of the unit, other end to hdmi to rca adapter and plug chromeast to hdmi power everything but the unit not showing AV only aux try difirent setting but its like it dont have AV..PLEASE HELP
can I only use it to mirror, so when I'm on the go, it's just acting as a monitor for my android phone, therefore anything I do will only use my 4g plan like normal? or does it need the hotspot too?
thanks for the video, does any reg headphone jack input 3.5 support audio and video or there's 2 types or does that hdmi box convert a reg. audio jack to AV ??
Sadly for s6 edge+ users at least, all forms of mirroring via notification panels or otherwise must use wifi. I circumvented this by using a miracast adapter which use different protocols but have no touch responses on my appradio yet, however mirroring alone works.
What happen if we give power connection from usb power output which it self getting 12v but i dont know whats output i normally use it to charge my mobile.
Hi Umesh, To enable the video while driving, you need to 'ground' the 'brake wire' in your head unit, so the head unit will assume car is stopped and allows you to play video.
I have a Samsung S5 and a Motorola phone. I tried this with the Samsung as my hotspot and the Motorola to configure the Chromecast. I then turned off mobile data and was still able to stream/mirror locally but i want to use my Samsung to connect to Chromecast. I can't find any way to do it like you said in the video. Since it is the hotspot it can't find itself. The phone connections are not very clear in your video. How did you hook up your hotspot phone to the Chromecast and do you have to leave the hotspot and data on?
after reading the comments here I noticed that Samsung phones seem to be the issue. they don't seem to like showing itself on it's own hotspot network. perhaps using a different tethering app could solve the issue. try to ask the other people in the comments that have had the issue. maybe they have solved it?
+David Noel actually one of the people in the comments used the new guest mode to connect. See if that works also. "it is possible to connect the chromecast using just one phone...in the chromecast set up you just need to check the guess mode"
I decided to buy a new Kenwood with Android Auto. That's a much easier solution. I can use Android Auto or do actual screen mirroring with touch functions on the unit.

Hi, I used the very same setup, but have some problems with the chromecast talking to the HDMI2AV Box... Upon starting the chromecast is showing on the bottom of the screen "Chromecast ..." for a couple of seconds, and then the Video Signal dissapears. I can still setup the Chromecast as shown and cast, but only the sound is comming in, and no video signal. I tried hooking it up with a HDMI cable to MHL and to the phone directly and it works, so the setup is working... Only the Chromecast 1 cant seem to talk right to the HDMI2AV Box... Do You know how I can fix that?
perhaps it may be an issue with the setup process at boot. Try to power it up and set it up on your tv using the hotspot method. Then just move it into the car. And don't forget the power!
Ronnie Robinson that could be interfere at various levels. Try to replace the aux/rca cable with a better quality one. Shielded if possible. And make sure the power lines (usb hardwire) aren't crossing over the signal wires. And make sure the power is grounded well.
I have set everything up like I should I think ,including using using a second phone to set up chromecast via Hotspot from my first. now how do I use my first phone to cast. turn off Hotspot and it says chromecast needs set up, try to open chromecast app or screen mirror via phone settings and ask it ask me to turn on WiFi which then in turn will shut off my Hotspot. how do I cast from my first phone. thanks, I have a note 4
Once I turn my Hotspot off it says - - > "Reconnect me '(my chromecast name)' can't connect to (my Hotspot name) Run the chromecast app to confirm your WiFi password"
+Nicholas Wilson one your Chromecast is on the same hotspot that your phone is distributing you can cast to it. you can't use the "Chromecast app" because it doesn't understand the hotspot. Just go into any castable app like UA-cam and you will see the icon to cast
chromecast video doesn't go through the phone, so you can do other things with your phone and, say, texting and running youtube video at the same time :)
actually, it is possible to connect the chromecast using just one phone...in the chromecast set up you just need to check the guess mode: support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6109286?hl=en and that is it.

since this procedure is to get an HDMI input into a car then any HDMI device should work. including mhl, Xbox, PlayStation, fire TV etc etc etc
Can you interact with the apps on your phone from the head-unit?
Or the maps and stuff that you pulled up, is that all done only from the phone?
it does, but does mirroring use my data plan? and does the phone still need to be a hot spot to mirror. I only want to use this set up to make my aftermarket stereo play audio and video from what's on my phone, while on the go, but I don't want to use more of my plan than it would if I just watch my phone in my hand. is this the case? is it the same?

Hi. Can you tell me whether i can use chromecast using after market LCD screen and use google maps while driving?
great video. will this work with Chevrolet factory mylink radios or only aftermarket radios?
So much work!!! Just buy a tablet and fix it inplace of radio
And what if you want to stream files from your smartphone?
In fact, how do you even remote control such a thing anyway?
there are ways to get your steeringwheel control to the tablet ;)

Do both phones need to be logged into the same google home user?

Just when setting up.
Could you get a cheap travel router and use that as part of the project?
You'd have to set up the chomecast to connect to that automatically and
then join that network on your phone.
That could certainly work as well.
Sorry just to let you know no need to buy converter just install normal usb output which get 12v input but produced normally 5v dc
Cars & Tech by JDM City
So I can play regular video on my tablet and I can mirror it to the screen via Chromecast? Btw thank you for quick response
tuminei yes, you should be able to stream a file directly with something like allcast and should be able to mirror your screen since those are done on the local network
question. Cant you just use the usb connection behind the after market stereo to power the converter and chromecast with a usb Y cable?
update: I bought a Y usb cable that plugs straight into the stereo and it works great! everything else that was suggested is needed, but for power I didn't need to use a dc usb.
I've been looking to make mine blue like that forever.
wa11pon33 paint and clear coat.
Cars & Tech by JDM City sweet thanks man
could I avoid the two phone trick by setting up miracast on my tv the chromecast and the phone I'll be using for mirroring, before I begin the install?
Just need it to connect to the correct hotspot that you will be using
+Thomas Ta Did you ever find out if the chromcast needs a network with internet or not??
That's what I wanna do is mirror the screen. Thats the only way to watch browser content. There is no cast option from the Google chrome browser for phones. Only tablets and PCs have that, that I can see.
I just have a question does the chromecast need to be connected to the other phone all the time for you to cast anything?
No. The reason for setting it up via a second device is only because the Chromecast can't see the main device when initially setting it up. After you use a second device to set the Chromecast up, you can then use the main device to cast. It's just for the initial set up process.
thanks for the great video, does the radio need to be an aftermarket one?
+M Fereidani usually. Very few stock units support video in.
Although honestly, I'm wondering if roku would work better. You would need to use a separate remote though.
Nikola Radulov not too sure. is power being ran to botht eh chrome cast and the converter?
Thinking about buying a Chromecast dongle for mirroring my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to my AppRadio w/HDMI input but Sprint wants to charge me $10 per month extra before they'll let me enable my phone's hotspot feature :-/ Is there any alternative wireless products that doesn't require the hotspot?
root, rom and enjoy tethering
+crusherbad64 exactly!
+Naaman Geist Can't you just set it up using your home wifi then unplug the chromecast and move it to the car?
hah, I was doing it backwards. first phone has to have the Hotspot enabled. install and set up chromecast through the 2nd phone, or tablet. works perfect now.
I messed that up the first time too lol
So you have to be connected to one phones Hotspot all the time for you to be able to stream from the other phone? Or can you mirror with just the one phone after initial setup of the chromecast?
@@quiqnezz I think video implied that hotspot isn't necessary after setup.
my lincoln has an aux input in the glove box and a charge port right next to it. Can I plug the CC audio and run it with my phone ?
+Alex Alejandre most likely not. Almost every car that comes with an Aux jack is Audio only.
+Cars & Tech by JDM City gotcha thanks broskie
+Alex Alejandre the Chromecast audio should work fine with any aux-in on any device. Including a car.

I have Audi A6, which comes with Audi MMI. What if i can use a "MMI TO HDMI" adapter, do you think i still need to go with the RCA to HDMI converter?
if it accepts and input then you use whatever interface that has. Whether direct or converted.
Were can i get the double female USB car connector i see in the video???
Your opinion will be very helpful
if you have an appradio that has HDMI in then you have the best option cause life is easy and you have two methods to choose from. Try both !
hello i bought all the items included but my headunit is still saying no signal when i select av , i am in the uk so does this only work for usa?
Are you using AUX or Composite-in? If AUX, does your radio support a video band? Consult your user manual to find out.
Hello , i am using a composite input
Let me get this straight; after the initial setup, using a secondary phone for the wifi hotspot and internet connectivity... you no longer need internet connectivity for the chromecast? (as long as you're casting "local" media)
Does the chromecast now support wifi adhoc? ... and I thought the chromecast would "konk out" from whatever it is streaming/playing, within 30 seconds of loosing internet connectivity, even in the event it was present when the stream started (?)
I Might be misunderstanding, might be my knowledge is flawed and/or outdated ... just hoping you can shine a light on how this works after initial setup.
pr0xZen You need an internet connection regardless of local content or not.
If you don't mind - could you check the Android data traffic stats, while "booting" and starting a cast?
i'm not sure if it stores apps, but ALL DATA is pulled via wifi, and therefore, through your phone when using hotspot
I got a good one. The video is great. It's the audio that has the white noise/feedback
what if my car already have built in USB for power and also for the head unit can I just use a hdmi to USB for the chrome cast to the USB in my car
you can use the USB for power, but USB will not transfer any Audio/Video.
Ok thank you for your knowledge
+Chris Thomas no problem, good luck with your Chromecast build!
do you need 2 phone all the time or just when you first get it? I'm planning on doing this setup soon but don't have Hotspot but will use someone else phone if I only need it one time
Just to set it up. After that you are good to only use the single phone.
If you have ATT, they have an OBD2 device that creates a hotspot in your car. It's much more convenient than having your phone do it.
Cars & Tech by JDM City 2 phone need only set up or every connection needs to be second phone.
I have one more ? inside my arm rest where I have the USBs and SD card I saw a head phone jack which I thought it was a jack for listening to music but when It appear on my radio monitor it said aux input so can that work if I buy all those stuff except the one for USB power cause I already have usb power
the aux jack in cars are for audio input. they don't 2 pins. aftermarket headunits with screens often have video aux which has 3 pins.
+Cars & Tech by JDM City Actually, my stock head unit for a Veloster 2015 have the video aux. I can play my playstation on it :).
+Matthew Copeland that's great! rare feature
hello I've tried this for awhile with no good results. the person who installed my radio ran my aux cord out from the back so the end that's exposed to me is a male, can I just use a female to female and plug the aux cord in one end and the aux to rca in the other end. also do I set the radio to aux, av, usb or disc?
I would assume aux. if so,there is a button on the button of the screen that says a/v change what does it have to be set to
since every radio is different I would not have the knowledge. however, you can refer to your user manual which should have all the information you need. also, this assumes your AUX port supports video. Does it support video? What does it say in the manual? Hope this helps, and please let me know what you find out.
+Cars & Tech by JDM City I don't have the manual, but it's an avh-x2600bt Pioneer
+Josh Parsons I'm sure the manual can be found online. If I have some down time I'll try to look it up for you
Do I need to activate the hot spot whenever I am using the mirroring?
so i have a Galaxy S5.
Khoa Nguyen you will most likely have A/V sync issues
Have you ever installed this on a Camaro with Mylink? pretty cool just wondering if it would work? thanks!
@@RWCustoms Can you suggest some Aux to rca cable brand pls
can you toggle between chrome cast and head unit display?.Or only chrome cast wallpapers are shown when i am not casting?
it's just like your TV would be. click the button on your heading to change source or to go back to the main screen
I meant mirror the screen, it won't let me mirror the screen.
+Joshua Myers are you running 4.4 or higher? And some phones just won't work, even if you have 4.4+ on a rom. example, the galaxy S3 with a rom of 4.4+ won't allow screen to cast even though the feature is right there in the software.
I am, it's a note 5. I think that's the problem
+Joshua Myers the note 5 should work. didn't that ship with Lollipop? 4.4+ should work. (unless from a custom rom)
hi i got a Pioneer AVH 211EX i am using the av to rca jack (from my android box) plug into the aux/av in the back of the unit, other end to hdmi to rca adapter and plug chromeast to hdmi power everything but the unit not showing AV only aux try difirent setting but its like it dont have AV..PLEASE HELP
Did you ever figure it out?
can I only use it to mirror, so when I'm on the go, it's just acting as a monitor for my android phone, therefore anything I do will only use my 4g plan like normal? or does it need the hotspot too?
yes, chrome cast supports screen casting. as long as your phone OS supports it
thanks for the video, does any reg headphone jack input 3.5 support audio and video or there's 2 types or does that hdmi box convert a reg. audio jack to AV ??
aftermarket radios MAY have 3 band A/V aux jack. you need to look in the user manual. Most stock radios will not have video functionality
Build for my Rogue 2017 with a 3.5mm stock socket yet only static? Any advice? Thanks.
+Z StHope that's an audio only port, most likely
How would you use a mirror screen function like this as most all methods force me to turn on the WiFi?
as long as you activate mirroring from the notification panel or settings it should work fine. Do not enable mirroring through the cast app itself
Sadly for s6 edge+ users at least, all forms of mirroring via notification panels or otherwise must use wifi.
I circumvented this by using a miracast adapter which use different protocols but have no touch responses on my appradio yet, however mirroring alone works.
+Kyle Aber rooting and tweaking would be the only work around I could think of
+Cars & Tech by JDM City and that would work well for gs6 users who do NOT have Verizon due to no chance of root.
+Kyle Aber there are two things I stay away from in the phone world. Verizon and Samsung lol.
What happen if we give power connection from usb power output which it self getting 12v but i dont know whats output i normally use it to charge my mobile.
5v USB power is needed. So to get a USB port to supply the power I used a 12v to 5v usb converter.
hi when using chromecast in this manor can you cast a movie and then turn the phone screen off and keep the movie playing on the car tv ?
Hi, we're you able to get an answer? I'm also curious about this..
is chromecast the best stick to use for this project?
Hello , while driving this will be turned off , if want to mirror waze or google nav how ?
Hi Umesh,
To enable the video while driving, you need to 'ground' the 'brake wire' in your head unit, so the head unit will assume car is stopped and allows you to play video.
Question I have a 2009 Jeep Liberty with uconnect screen with DVD player. Do you think this would work with my aux port still?
I can use Android Auto or do actual screen mirroring with touch functions on the unit.

great job! shared on linkedin for What3Words. :)
you cannot mirror because you are unable to use the chrome cast app. you can only cast. you need to use mhl to mirror.
I hooked it up exactly as you did, but couod not get it to work
Hi, I used the very same setup, but have some problems with the chromecast talking to the HDMI2AV Box...
When I connect the video cable I get a buzzing sound and scrambled video. Do you have a suggestion?
Ronnie Robinson that could be interfere at various levels. Try to replace the aux/rca cable with a better quality one. Shielded if possible. And make sure the power lines (usb hardwire) aren't crossing over the signal wires. And make sure the power is grounded well.
That's dope dude.
Thanks man!
+Nicholas Wilson you may have set up the devices in the opposite order
Once I turn my Hotspot off it says - - >
"Reconnect me
'(my chromecast name)' can't connect to (my Hotspot name)
Run the chromecast app to confirm your WiFi password"
+Nicholas Wilson one your Chromecast is on the same hotspot that your phone is distributing you can cast to it. you can't use the "Chromecast app" because it doesn't understand the hotspot. Just go into any castable app like UA-cam and you will see the icon to cast
and hotspot must always be on to use it of course
will this work with iphone 6 and 7plus
I did it in a dual and worked but not in my jvc 330bt
does the phone remain on hotspot to work? does mirroring use 4g data ?
yes it will continue to work off the hotspot once set up. and it used ur data
So do you always have to have your mobile hotspot turned on?
if you want to be able to cast anything that pulls data then yes.
Thanks for this Awesome video....Many Thanks!! Excellent job!! :)
thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed it
can you use your phone through your stereo touch screen?
I don't get it, what's the point in using ChromeCast to do this when you can plug in the phone directly into the HU? What's the advantage?
chromecast video doesn't go through the phone, so you can do other things with your phone and, say, texting and running youtube video at the same time :)
Is this compatible with the aftermarket RCD330?
hi will this run Google maps while you are driving ????
or is it disabled when car is put in drive
actually, it is possible to connect the chromecast using just one phone...in the chromecast set up you just need to check the guess mode: support.google.com/chromecast/answer/6109286?hl=en and that is it.
is that what cable is needed?
please show me..
Cheers mate, thanks.
I need to know how I can install the chromecast in a 2015 chevy malibu I try gives audio but no video
+Angel Luis Cordovi The procedure is the exact same regardless of car. If you are using a stock radio/head unit it will not work because they are often audio only Aux. If you have an aftermarket radio/head unit lmk what kind and I can try to help.
and where would u plug the fire stick?
I have a 2016 Dodge Challenger stock will this work?
If using a European vehicle (screen) I'd try the PAL standard regardless of where you live. At the very least it's higher resolution.
great idea man
