      Thank you Dan and that is so awesome to hear. Thank you so much for your support of my channel. It means the world to me. For me personally, the friendship and fun that Chris and I have when we are out detecting will always trump the finds that we make. I really appreciate your comment as I am glad that it is conveyed through the videos I put together each week. It's really great to dig with a young guy like Chris that has the same passion for the hobby and history as I do. There are a lot of great young guns out there in the hobby and on UA-cam and it gives me great hope for the future of our amazing hobby. With that said, HUGE CONGRATS on getting your new Equinox 600! I know you will enjoy using it and if I can help you please don't hesitate to let me know. Thank you as well for shopping through my links with Kellyco. It really does help a lot with being able to put this channel together each week. Don't forget to use the FAUSA sales code at checkout to save yourself 10% on your order. LOL Take care and ATB Greg

    Coins are great but I agree that the type relics you guys rescued that day are what really gets your imagination in gear and truly presents a glimpse into what life was like in those days. Great hunt!

      I couldn't have said it any better Don. I love finding everything but this type of hunting is what gets my blood going. Always so incredible to be able to hold something in your hands that was last touched by a colonist. Thanks so much for watching and I really appreciate your comment. Look forward to hearing from you again. ATB Greg

    To think of great great great grandparents being those who used the utensils. Their livestock using the tack items. The buttons and buckles used to secure their clothing. And the pocket knife being used for it's many purposes during that time period. It's all so cool to look at and to picture the colonial family who used then all to live their lives out in that wilderness. Great hunt and video yea Greg and Chris; your new machines are making hitting old locations all new locations again 😃👍

      You hit the nail on the head Kaye. Those are exactly the thoughts I think of throughout the day when I am unearthing these treasures. For the price of a metal detector you can take a trip through time and history every day you go out. It is an amazing hobby. Awesome comment Kaye and thank you as always for watching and especially for your support of the channel. Much appreciated! ATB Greg

      Thank you very much for those kind words Robert. I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned "perspective". That's one of the main goals I wanted to accomplish with my channel and that is to put our finds into historical perspective so that everyone appreciates what they find more. That's why I always say that "History makes the find a treasure". That rusty tool found becomes a treasure when you put it into historical context and you can visualize the people that crafted and used it. It's a great hobby! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. It is greatly appreciated! ATB to you and yours Robert. Greg

      That could be as well. I really liked the pocket knife too. Oldest one I have ever dug! I have done that in the past and would certainly do it again. It just has to be the right place. I just do not want to give it to a place that will just put it all in a shoe box and stick it in the basement. That's almost as bad as leaving it in the ground. • @FindingAmerica
      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому +2

      Unfortunately, I can barely fit what I do into the videos as it is. There are a lot of channels out there that will show the screen and the locating process but that is just not what I wanted my channel to be about. I wanted to do things differently than other channels when I started UA-cam and focus on the finds and their history as well as offer detecting tips and advice. If I tried to include the entire process, my videos would be way too long and I would never be able to fit all that we find into the video. On top of that, recording and setting all that up would take so much time out in the field that I would hardly get time to try and find anything when I was out detecting. Hope this makes sense. Thanks as always for watching. Always appreciate hearing from you. ATB Greg

    Love your videos. I'm embarrassed to admit that I have thrown away a lot of the things you have found in my early years of detecting back in the early 80's. I could just smack myself for my ignorance. I won't be doing that anymore. I now have the AT Max with the 5x8 coil and am trying to find some older permissions. Back in the 80's I detected and old orphanage and found a lot of silver and toys. Lots of fun. I then had a White's 6000D coinmaster detector. back then it was a top of line detector. A little history for you.

Now, nothing gets thrown away until I can get home and have a good look at it. I wish you the best of luck with your new Max and hope you find some great things with it. I remember the Whites 6000 series very well when it came out. Back then I was using the Garrett ADS units. Those were the days! ATB Greg

    Good finds! The 6” coil is so awesome. It seems to be made to get in between those iron signals to sniff out the good stuff. Since I bought it, it has come off my 800 only a couple of times for beach hunts on Florida vacation.

My favorite period in American history is the Colonial era and to be able to unearth things like this in Tennessee is a very special treat for Chris and myself. The snow is melting up here on the mountain and they say we are going to be in the 50's for the rest of November. I'm ready to go detecting again! LOL Thanks as always for watching and great to hear from you. ATB Greg

    Most excellent Greg! Awesome finds that truly stimulate thoughts in our minds about early American life. The pictures included at the end are FANTASTIC! Buttons, flatware, pocket knife and what appears to be horse tack hardware is super interesting! I'm pretty sure the rings with the hollow short tube attached is a connection point for wagon or buggy draw bars to a harness. i'm thinking with all that iron and horse related items, you might be working an old blacksmiths shop. Congratulations!

      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому

      You are right my friend. It is impossible not to imagine life in those days when you are holding their belongings in the light of day for the first time in 230 years. Such an amazing experience that we get to have thanks to our great hobby. I agree with you on the rings and most of the iron relics that day were coming out of the area where they had a brick kiln. They may have done their early blacksmithing in the area we were in as well but I do know that they did have a blacksmith shop in later years a couple acres away. We have yet to locate that one. I will probably be doing another video from this location and I'm also trying to think of a way to incorporate pictures of our past finds from this location. Some really nice things came from here before I started this channel. Thanks as always for watching and always great to hear from you. ATB Greg

    I believe that ring is what went to a tongue on a wagon to hitch up the team. they would run the leather straps through a ring on the tongue to control the horse. the other strange item that the root grow through went to a pack for a pack horse bag to tighten down the load and to close the flap on it.

    Thanks for the video great information and great finds.Those early pioneers and settlers were a very resourceful and resilient bunch of people ,they had to use their brains and sharpen their wits to survive.Yes definitely those artefacts were made as required which makes them very unique probably just one off items for a dedicated purpose.Do you think that the settlement might have been abandoned quickly?Those items would have been treasured and not thrown away. Thanks again much appreciated.

      Thanks Brian! Really appreciate you watching and so glad you enjoyed it. No, that property remained in the family for many years including through the Civil War and beyond. Often times, when things broke they still weren't discarded but kept in case they could reuse them or their materials. When we found this site, it was completely virgin and it really shows you just how much stuff can accumulate on a Colonial property when it is used for so many years. Definitely one of our favorite spots to detect. ATB Greg

    im new to the nox800. what settings should i use for colonial relic hunting?

    • @FindingAmerica
      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому

      Honestly, I kept it in the Park 2 settings I've been using (Park 2, 5 Tones, Sensitivity at 23, Threshold 7, Recovery at 7, Iron Bias at 3) and they did great. I did switch over to some of the Field programs but then decided why mess with what's working? I am sure some out there have some great settings specifically for colonial sites (and I would love to know them too) but I just figured "If it ain't broke don't fix it" LOL One thing I would strongly suggest is picking up the 6 inch coil if you haven't already. It is a great coil to work through the iron with. Thanks so much for watching! ATB Greg

    I find it strange that many knives were actually lost. I wander if they were left in the cabin when they moved because of wear or damage. We will never know. Fun video and thanks for sharing.

    • @FindingAmerica
      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому

      I've always found it strange but they did eat their meals in the fields while working so that may account for it. But it had to get a little costly losing utensils all the time. I always wondered about it to watching Stealth Diggers and all the spoons they always dig up at these sites. My best guess is that they often broke them and then just discarded them. It's very rare to find a complete fork or knife. Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for leaving a comment. ATB and take care. Greg

    Did you need permission to hunt there? Many nice relics from you both. Those 2 forged rings look like the small portion would slide on a bar. Very cool pocket knife. I knew sooner or later you'd find a key, too bad the ring was broken off. very nice one. Interesting explanation on dating the buttons, never knew that. The photos at the end was rough living. GL HH

    • @FindingAmerica
      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому

      Yes, we did Joe and it took some time to finally get it. I agree with you on the rings and they may be part of a wagon or plow rigging. I really loved finding that pocket knife. Definitely ]is now one of my top finds this year. Chris actually found another key there a while back and the one he found this time was a stunner. Glad I could help with the button info. They didn't really start to make two piece buttons in the US until around 1838-1839. Europe had already started making them long before. I actually have some Napoleonic Wars artillery buttons that I found in Europe that were beautiful two piece buttons. You are right about the photos. It was a very hard life and yet, amazingly, it was still a much better one than the one they had left behind in the Old Country. ATB Greg

    Greg you just solidified my button find by saying your flat button was from 1815 -1840 i had found a flat button that I pretty much had to connect the dots! it is a flat button to commemorate Wellington's defeat over Napoleon at Waterloo. from the info i have got thus far is that Wellington commissioned a button manufacturer to put his title on the back of the button along with the 2 words gold Gilt If I'm wrong please correct my findings!

    • @FindingAmerica
      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому

      Yes, those buttons date from around 1815 and buttons with backmarks became the norm from 1810-1840. I know one I've seen one that had Standard Treble Gilt on the backside along with the name Wellington. They say that many British officers wore them on their uniforms. Hope this helps and thanks for watching! ATB Greg

    • @FindingAmerica
      @FindingAmerica  5 років тому +1

      Hey, you never know. I truly hope it can find many more things at this site. I think the Simplex is a heck of a machine especially with what it has to offer at such a low price point. I can't wait to get one in my hands and I really hope I can get one to use at this spot before it gets overgrown again. I love using Minelab products but I have used a lot of different brands over the years. Honestly, I don't care what machine I use as long as it performs well and I click with it. I am all about finding what is in the ground. That is what I care about. I want performance and results and I really don't care what brand of machine it is. When I am using or reviewing a machine on my channel you will hear me talking about that machine. I will never bash or criticize another machine because I love using all kinds of brands and machines. Some are better than others but they all have a place in the hobby. The more brands and machines that are out there only serves to improve the hobby through competition. That's how we get these amazing new machines, through competition in the marketplace which results in new innovations and lower costs for consumers. Sorry to bend your ear so much LOL. I really appreciate you watching my video and I hope you enjoyed it. ATB Greg
