  • Kratom use is widespread in the United States, as it is available as a herbal supplement. In this video, I will give pharmacologists perspective of what it is and what kind of effects it produces, while briefly discussing the pharmacology of mitragynine/7-hydroxymitragynine.
I'd be happy to hear your thoughts on kratom and continue the discussion down below in the comments section.

By taking breaks from Kratom it allows me to appreciate life without sweating the fact i rely on a plant to get by. it gives me time to evaluate my self and after my break ends I am always much more enthusiastic and glad to have access. its the one plant besides marijuana that allows for me to be content with life no matter how good or bad.

I am a decade long kratom user, I started taking it to kick a Vicodin habit, which works wonders, that being said in high dose long term use (I take about 35g daily, 7g 5 times daily) it has the exact same withdrawal symptoms, not nearly as intense but very similar in symptoms such as constant yawning, runny nose, sneezing, foggy thinking, restless legs and severe lethargy. Let me reiterate, the symptoms are not as intense as opiates but very similar in effects, kratom is definitely a life saver when it comes to kicking opiates of any kind but it is definitely a double edged sword because if left unchecked kratom abuse and addiction is a very real thing especially in long term high dose use so be careful because exchanging one addiction for another is a definite possibility with kratom if you're not careful.

Getting off opiods is difficult without psilocybin mushrooms or some other psychedelics to help with the withdrawal. However if you're dealing with someone who's trying to get off heroin or Suboxone, Kratom could be the safe herb that keeps them from using and knocks out there withdrawal symptoms long enough to get some peace. Anybody who's ever gotten off any drug knows that it's not fun to stop taking a substance but Kratom could be a huge factor in helping people off opioids.

I take kratom once a twice a week, and it's lovely in that frequency. I don't take much, but it does help with autoimmune issues. Like...REALLY helps. The plant is incredible.
We as a society need to educate people. We've also had enough banning of plants (and fungi). It's time to freaking learn to do better and give people choices, the scheduling of things doesn't work and only serves to bolster a larger black market. Addicts still exist, and they'll continue to use too much kratom (or whatever else). Sometimes these people have issues from being abused, or other traumas.
So we also need to grow, help health each other, and mature as a western people group.
I thoroughly believe a healthy promotion of safe use is much more motivating than a damning smear campaign against misuse.
Thank you for the objective and educational video 🥰

i have been addicted to a few different things in the past. the difference between kratom and drugs of abuse like for example amphetamine or morphine or alcohol, is that kratom cannot really be used recreationally, since higher doses feel bad, and lower doses feel good, and kratom is not a lethal drug, but people need to know they cant just stop using it suddenly. i even tapered and had pretty bad withdrawl from only 6 grams a day. i thought i could suddenly stop 6 grams a day. apparently not, but i found it quite easy to quit using something like 3 grams a day. at 3 grams a day it was comparable to caffeine withdrawl. i cannot promote the use of kratom with a clear conscience without also warning about withdrawl every time i claim that kratom is good for pain or depression or anxiety and is safer than most pharmaceuticals. thats all true but so are the negative aspects

@@coog9the dose you’re taking is just enough to feel relaxed stimulant effects. since red kratom is considered the “indica” of kratom it wont necessarily “stimulate” you like a white vein would at low doses. but take at LEAST 5-6 grams and the painkiller effects should work. the dose you’re taking of the red is usually known to uplift your mood while relaxing you, not necessarily ease pain. you need to take a greater dose (dont overdo it) to get those desired effects. and who knows, maybe you’ll react better with a different strain like white or green. everybody reacts differently to drugs and to herbal medicines alike. try upping the dose to 5 grams, and if you’re gonna do more, i highly suggest doing it at home. if you work, taking over 7 grams could sedate you and obviously make you sluggish at work. doses that high usually put kratom users to sleep. thats what it does for me anyways. hope this helps!

I’ve been using Kratom for a little over a year and a half now, if you can even put a time frame on it. I only take it for pain, and really bad pain that Tylenol couldn’t help. However sometimes I have taken it just to lighten my mood when I don’t want to smoke marijuana and be high around people who would be uncomfortable with that. I’ve never abused it, I’ve always done the research and have been wise with it, I also make sure not to use it every day, and only on days when I am in severe pain. So I agree with your video, I love the information and the way you have it put out, But I hope they’re able to study it in clinical trials before it’s outlawed.

The Red kind is for relaxation, the white kind is for energy, and the green kind is somewhere in between. Having tried both red and green, the red SO nice for getting a great night sleep and waking up feeling refreshed, EVEN after a night of drinking. Just make sure you have a minimum of 6 hours to sleep, but more ideally, at least 8 hours. The green kind for me does give some energy, but it is a very fine line between taking enough to feel much of anything, to then overdoing and starting to feel uneasy and anxious (much like taking too much caffeine). If you stick with the red kind and watch your tolerance so you don't start taking excessive amounts of it, it can be a great tool for getting some much needed rest and recovery from a hard day of work. I work a very physical job, and my muscles actually feel really good when I wake up in the morning. The sleep is so deep and comfortable that I think the body recovers better. That's been my experience anyways.

I needed to know my true pain so I stopped taking pills and started the kratom.. as far as suppressing chronic intractable pain . Nope not even touching pain but withdrawal was manageable and I've survived still pushing threw. This might be a great option for weening off opiates but pain can physically and mentally cripple one. God knows I've been grasping at straws so I had to change the plan ..
Why keep taking meds that don't work I knew it could have turned bad..I'm so thankful I have self control and did not fall to my own demise and give up... I'm not saying this is a good thing for
People who are terminal and severe pain. Quality of life seemed more manageable on medication but they say pain let's you know your alive and I'm feeling extreamly alive yet not withdrawal..

I appreciate the information, however, most of the information you provide in the video does not answer any questions i have about Kratom due to the fact one has to study pharmacology to understand how this all reacts on our bodies. You are using scientific terms that most of us do not understand, I would be happy to listen to a longer video on the subject if you were to define the scientific terms for someone like me who is an end user. For example I a long-term daily user of Kratom due to having Lyme's disease. How does kratom effect the endocrine system , my adrenals, thyroid, or liver in long-term use. Have their been any studies on this, if not what is your best guess. You know maybe dumb down your video's or please give more detailed explanations for people who have not studied pharmacology. That would be really nice to be able to listen, Check out Andrew Hubberman, Neurobiologist, neurochemistry. He really does a good job transmuting the science into a more palatable verbiage for the common person seeking information. He has his own podcast Humberman Labs.

Wow, thank you for the information. And the very pleasant speaking voice. I've recently started using kratom for sleep and pain and my curiosity is around what drives the stimulating and energizing effects. Because even using Red Bali, the least stimulating and energizing strain I see with the greatest amount of sedation ( based on one chart I found) it still keeps me awake at night. So I've been trying to find out what in it is stimulating/energizing so I might find a way to counteract it. I've heard kratom is related to coffee but from what I read does not contain caffeine. I've tried different doses with the same effect. Any insight would be greatly appreciated and thanks again for the video.

I tried Kratom once, chewing on a fresh leaf that was given to me by some Akha friends when they saw how exhausted I was from overwork. The Akha are an ethnic mountain people who live in Southeast Asia. They explained that it picked you up similar to a strong cup of coffee but without the buzz of caffeine. It did the trick; I found it to be similar to chewing betel nut, but it doesn't turn your teeth black.

    • @lukefarnham2119
      @lukefarnham2119 Рік тому +1

It's entirely based on dosage. Even a low dosage of a red strain will have energizing effects, on the flip side high doses of white or green can cause sedation. In order to get the most sedation, higher doses of red strains should do the trick. Be careful though, daily use over uninterrupted long periods of time will cause a physical dependence. I.e. withdrawals. Best wishes.

The substance was synthesized in an attempt to create a gaba derivative that would cross the BBB. Also, it's a GABA-B agonist which is pretty rare pharmacologically speaking. I also think phenibut exemplifies that the field of medicine has a subjective side, since it is basically the benzodiazepine of the east yet the west has never even heard of it. So, lots of interesting stuff to talk about when it comes to phenibut

      Opms
Silver is there regular kratom in capsules.
Gold and black are extracts, capsules and shots. If your on pain meds these will be more up your alley.
There is a new thing 7 oh, a isolation of 7 hydromitrgynine but its showing tolerance and shorter duration in its isolated form.
The extracts still have some other alkoloids from the plant that aid in its effects.
And when u want to stop the extracts, go down to regular kratom, and slowly taper. It help me get of percs 6 years ago. I used it everyday for 2 years. Stopped but now still take it 2 times a week.
If you have decent self control, and dont keep upping your dose, you can find kratom can help at almost every dose, and can have a sweet spot. That element is ehat lacks in the 7 oh isolation.

I recommend trying it from the leaf itself if you're visiting Thailand or other SEA countries.
Taste like shit but it's an experience.

Very interesting. I had no idea that neuropharmacists are a vocation.

In some countries, pharmacists can specialize in neuropharmacy, but to be honest, I'm not one of those "neuropharmacists".
I took the nick because I'm a pharmacist turned into a neuroscientist, working mostly on neuropharmacological questions. So I think neuropharmacist is a pretty descriptive word.

I have been getting off of Kratom the last five days but recommended that stem and vein will help drastically but I need to know am I just setting myself back by doing a scoop of day of this would actually is stem in vain is it just basically the stem in vain and it’s still kratom. I need to speak with someone about this if possible.

All the kratom stans on here delusionally pretending it's not very addictive. I've been addicted to both Heroin and Kratom and while Kratom isn't bad it is definitely very addictive and withdrawals especially after years of taking are virtually identical to opiates in all except intensity. Kratom has a bunch of potential for medicine, but also high likelihood of abuse.

Honestly I don’t know I’d be alive if weren’t for this I have chronic pain in my back hands feet head neck and eyes and whole body fiberqyalsya it isn’t as strong as true pain killers I feel it’s hyped up a lot. It works more the level of a extra strength Tylenol. But if you’re a cancer patient in true pain or wanna quit drugs I feel everyone should give it a chance if you live in agony . Life’s to short to suffer

Chamomile is a brain stimulant and as such is banned in residential chemical dependency treatment centers. It is only relaxing for some people whom present with ADD/ADHD.
