Ah, my childhood. Southern Gospel may not be considered "mainstream cool", but it holds a very special place in my heart, and I thank God I was raised around it.
I remember many many years ago seeing Ivan Parker and Gold City at a church here getting to see and hear them perform this song in person it was so awesome I will never ever forget it.......
To me, this was the best all round Southern Gospel Quartet to grace the stage in my life time. I went to see them many times during the 80's, and walked away every time feeling blessed and in awe. There were other great singing groups out there, and still is today, but Gold City Quartet touched my heart strings then more than ever.
I love this song. Gold City are great singers. Anything gospel warms my heart. Only music i listen to. I am ready for Jesus to come again. I have this song and listen to it several times a week.
This song makes me want to pray.. that's what gospel songs should do, bring a heart of worship. To feed feelgood emotions is dangerous when we walk by faith and not feelings. I happen to love this song. Brothers and sisters I encourage you all to establish a sincere faith prayer life as best as you can, when this life is over there will be no "do overs"
there is so much going on in this world, I feel the time is almost near, Praise his holy name I am ready to meet him in the air, If we never meet here on earth I will meet you in heaven greeting you with a hug and a smile
This is wonderful. I saw them all the time when I was a teenager. They came to Charelston SC all the time. But I do like the older songs with Ivan and Brian. If anyone has the older songs please post. I dont have my old tapes anymore.
Arguably the original recording of this song since it was the #1 song on the Southern Gospel charts for 14 months. Any song that is #1 on its' charts for 14 months is special. Many great versions but this is the best.
Thank You for posting this...I was searching for "Jesus Coming back Soon" songs and this came up...and I recognized the Venue, and the Camera Work (Mine) Yes, I ran camera on this concert in 1987 at Heritage USA
One day every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord!! What a day that will be when that Eastern sky splits open and we see our Savior in all his glory!!
“Then they will see the Son of Man coming in the clouds with great power and glory. And then He will send His angels, and gather together His elect from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.” Mark 13:26-27 The world will see the Son coming in the clouds with great power and glory. (Mark 13:26-27) His Second Coming will begin when angels gather the dead in Christ. (Mat. 24:30-31, 1 Thes. 4:14-16) Then, in a moment, they will catch up alive believers on earth. (1 Thes. 4:17) His bride will be taken before the throne of God in heaven. (Rev. 7:9-17; 21:9-10) (Chart: Second Coming)
i would love to know who the 56 people are who disliked this because they need a little jesus in there lives! I've loved this song since i was 7 years old when i first heard it
I saw Gold City Live around 1987. It was before they released this song. I think was their greatest line up of singers. Brian Free has always been one of my favorite Tenors. He sang the Squire Parson song "Greatest Of All Miracles" that night, and I've never heard it sung better. Thanks for posting this video.
Randy Knaps & Joseph Larson both sing this one beautifully. Joseph's version is on UA-cam I think but I can't find Randy Knaps yet. Michael English's version is good also. Randy is my fav b/c he has so much soul & cajun in his voice. His voice is God given.
I have 3 cds of these guys. I can truly say I listen to all kinds of Christian music. If it praises God and lifts up Jesus, it's all good. These guys are incredible!
I know you are right. I have a deep singing voice but I can't get as low as Tim does. That voice is sure a blessing to this type of music. Keep on singing Tim.
I love this song! I'm singing it for church this morning! It's nice to have the soundtrack with all the guys singing behind me and me taking Ivan's place! lol One of my all time favorite songs sung by an amazing line up!
I remember a joint G.C. and Kingsmen Qt performance in Anniston about that time. The Kingsmen's bus broke down so G.C. did another set so the fans would get a full show. They were gracious and there for ministry. After the show, they stayed for over an hour to sign autographs, shook hands and talked SGM with everyone. As I recall, they offered a 4-tape special for $5. Our staff at my computer store wore those tapes out, and we all enjoyed singing with the best gospel quartet each day.
If I'm not mistaken this was recorded at the old Heritage Village which was part of Jim & Tammy Bakker's empire. At least the front looks like the stage where the Kingsmen recorded an entire concert in 87
Is Ivan Parker the lead singer in this video? As I read along the comment thread, this may be him. I used to watch and listen to lots of Southern Gospel Music on a country music channel on Saturdays during the last half of the 1980s.
"The Beast must war against the saints before the resurrection of overcomers at the coming of the Son of Man! Are you ready to get the victory over the Man of Sin before going home?" Prophecy Teacher Paul Bortolazzo
@auntlolo86--I thought the same thing about several southern gospel tenors when I was a kid. I stage manage now and there's a lot of musical theatre and opera in my world, so I've learned that there's a big difference between classically trained tenors and the ones I used to hear getting ready for church on Sunday mornings. The two types sound worlds apart, and though I appreciate both I think most people are likely to favor what they grew up with, as I do. Brian Free is just fantastic.
i do not believe in a pre-tribulation rapture but i do love this song. that last Trump we will all be changed. what a time to live. Jeremiah desired to live to see this. no end of world only the rudiments. a new aion(age)!
"Midnight Cry" never ceases to bring tears to my eyes!
Ah, my childhood. Southern Gospel may not be considered "mainstream cool", but it holds a very special place in my heart, and I thank God I was raised around it.
I love it!
Nothing like it!

My dad sang bass for a quartet in Canada. Didn’t appreciate it then. I do now.
Amen its a prime example of Raise ur children in the way they should go & they will never depart from it...Its so true Im living proof of that...
This song brings back memories of my childhood and my grandmother. She left us in 2005.
There has never been a finer vocal blend than these men ever! Hallelujah!

This song really gives me cold chills I'm glad I'M SEALED TILL THE DAY OF REDEMPTION
Hallelujah ! One day we will be going home when jesus calls us home !
I remember many many years ago seeing Ivan Parker and Gold City at a church here getting to see and hear them perform this song in person it was so awesome I will never ever forget it.......
The best version of this song ever. Ivan Parker did a wonderful job. Glad I found this.
I love it too with Ivan. Also though Michael English has a good version as well
Absolutely.. Amen. Seen them live... Fantastic.
All I can say to that song is, "WOW". Even so, Come Lord Jesus.
To me, this was the best all round Southern Gospel Quartet to grace the stage in my life time. I went to see them many times during the 80's, and walked away every time feeling blessed and in awe. There were other great singing groups out there, and still is today, but Gold City Quartet touched my heart strings then more than ever.
lucky you
Even so, come Lord Jesus. What a glorious day that will be.

Y'all. Sre right 3:15
Tim Riley has one of the clearest bass voices that I have ever heard
So does Philip Holcomb of The Inspirations and Richard Sterban with The Oak Ridge Boys. They're so low they rattle the walls.
Wow!! I never knew that Brian Free and Ivan Parker were part of Gold City. That is cool.
I think a lot of people forget about of John Starnes because of his affiliation with Jimmy Lee Swaggert.

We shall surely be changed. Alleluia what a day that will be. Oh bless the Lord.

there is so much going on in this world, I feel the time is almost near, Praise his holy name I am ready to meet him in the air, If we never meet here on earth I will meet you in heaven greeting you with a hug and a smile
Don't delay much longer Lord, this world is falling apart fast
How could anyone not like this song?
Of all the groups in Southern Gospel music, this one was the absolute best sounding!
This is wonderful. I saw them all the time when I was a teenager. They came to Charelston SC all the time. But I do like the older songs with Ivan and Brian. If anyone has the older songs please post. I dont have my old tapes anymore.
I can't wait! When Gabriel sounds his trumpet! I am waiting for the Lord's return, and this will take place soon! Are you ready?
Jennifer Gregory amen
Beast comes first? Are you ready?
Thanks for sharing. Such a beautiful song... and the harmony from this particular group just can't be beat!
Arguably the original recording of this song since it was the #1 song on the Southern Gospel charts for 14 months. Any song that is #1 on its' charts for 14 months is special. Many great versions but this is the best.
Gold City, Kingsmen and Cathedals were of the 3 most popular groups in SG music during the 70s up until the 90s
I met Ivan Parker at the beach in 1987-He is so humble! Very much a Godly man!
Saw them in Waycross ,Ga thirty years ago.
Still good as ever.
Love you all.
See them all the time now in concerts.
Mildred72
This is an awesome song and Gold City definitely does awesome on it!

+Ross Hicks I absolutely agree with you on this song. I was 16 in 1987 when I heard it for the first time. I've loved it, and Gold City ever since.
He coming some
They do not appreciate Quartet music at it's best.
The bass got a little rattley for a bit. Song is full of chill bumps
I grew up on this. The spirit is hiting me really hard right now. Thank you Jesus!!!!!!!😭

This song is more true today than ever before!!!
Most churches dont sing this great music anymore. So sad this generation is going to miss out
The Bible is almost fulfilled. My Pastor at a chuch I attended sang this and you could hear him all over Middlebrook Pike in Knoxville
This song sends my heart straight to Jesus and pray..."Come Lord Jesus" take us out of this world.
Very well done. Thanks for sharing.

Cry thru this song every time
Seems that the midnight cry COULD happen soon. People if you're not ready, make Jesus the Lord of your life today, don't wait.
Your excellent right
Love their music
Praise The Lord.
