We were neighbors of Jim and Tammy when they were doing the "Jim and Tammy" childrens' show. They lived one block down from my family. My first Halloween, we went trick or treating with large, brown grocery bags that we had decorated with magic markers. It was what you did back then. As kids do, we hit up all the houses. Tammy answered the door and handed out flyers for the show. She was very sweet and complimented all the costumes, even mine, which was a witch. Then my bag broke and candy scattered all over the porch. I started to cry, she told me to stay right there, went and got a new bag, then got down on her hands and knees, and helped me find every last piece of candy. By this time my siblings and their friends had left me behind. She asked me where I lived and when I pointed and said "There", she walked me home. She gave me a hug and told me "Jesus loves you, and so do I". I ran up the steps to the door where my mom had just opened the door to go look for me. I turned around to wave, and she'd already walked away. I guess she saw my mother and knew I would be fine. My siblings and I would go see the "Jim and Tammy" show, as they always wanted a live audience. That stopped after my mom picked us up and we were crying . There were some rowdy kids in the audience that night, and Jim had some sort of meltdown and told us we were all going to Hell. Bear in mind I was about 4 at the time. @@marshallandroxy hmmm…fun fact: there is a middle aged gentleman in the Tammy Faye disco scene clogging in the background of one of the shots. That gentleman is my father 😂
She did-and since this movie looks to be set over the course of over 20 years-we’ll probably see her journey from an idealistic naive young lady (she was just 19 years old when she married Jim, who was 21 at the time when they married-and from the trailer, it looks like we’ll be following the Bakker’s journey from when they were in their late teens early 20’s to when they are in their 40’s) to deeply tormented but still kindhearted older woman.
I am excited to see this movie. I live about 2 hours from Charlotte where the Bakkers resided and where everything went down on them. This is definitely going to be getting Oscar buzz. I didn't even recognize Cherry Jones as Tammy Faye's Mother.
Let's not forget poor Glenn Close. Her fatal attraction role was even in my college textbook for borderline personality disorder. You cannot get more gangsta and iconic than that in that your performance is an example of a DSM5 diagnosis for psychological disorders. 😆
I have ALWAYS been a HUGE fan of Tammy Faye...it is because of her that I knew I could be gay and Christian and that God loved and accepted me (she saved my life many times as a teenager)...if anyone deserved heaven...it was Tammy Faye...she kept her faith and kept loving people...in a world that was really cruel to her...I am so glad her story is finally being told. I wish she could have lived to see it...she was definitely one of the most Christlike people to ever walk among us...I have collected a lot over the years from TBN and PTL...and my most prized possession is my Susie Moppet Doll...we could all be a little more like Tammy Faye
God does love you but what do you mean by gay Christian? Is it possible to be a gay Christian? If the phrase “gay Christian” refers to a person who struggles against homosexual desires and temptations - yes, a “gay Christian” is possible. However, the description “gay Christian” is not accurate for such a person, since he/she does not desire to be gay, and is struggling against the temptations. Such a person is not a “gay Christian,” but rather is simply a struggling Christian, just as there are Christians who struggle with fornication, lying, and stealing. If the phrase “gay Christian” refers to a person who actively, perpetually, and unrepentantly lives a homosexual lifestyle - no, it is not possible for such a person to truly be a Christian.

@@justjohnmichaeljones I've never claimed if you were saved or aren't that isn't my decision. I'm not sure how I'm expressing bigotry everything I'm saying is the word of God. I try my best to be like Christ (obviously failing everyday) but I mean no disrespect with what I said instead I say it with a good loving intent. Like you said I will be judged harshly and trust me I'm far from perfect. However, that won't stop me from judging my fellow brothers and sisters righteously. Believers are warned against judging others unfairly or unrighteously, but Jesus commends “right judgment” (John 7:24, ESV). Instead of taking my comment as an offense, consider it, understand it, and formulate a good biblical argument against it instead of calling me "ungracious" or "bigot."
I am not judging you, I have no right to do so. However, there is nothing like 'gay Christian' just as there is nothing like lying christian'. We all are human and prone to sin. We struggle and from time to time fall into sins and ask fir forgiveness and grace to overcome it.but deliberately living in it and justifying it is dangerous and doesn't make one a Christian. If my bible is correct, which I definitely believe it is, anyone that live in sin and continously justify it is in danger of hell. No offence, just repeating the message of the Bible and Christian doctrine. I love you with the love of christ.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 Jesus was crucified, buried and then rose again on the third day. Believe in Him and you will have eternal life. Repent of your sins, turn away from them and turn to God He loves you.
Just watched this movie last night. First off, it's fantastic.... and if Jessica Chastain wins the Oscar it will be well deserved. Secondly... if Andrew Garfield wasn't already nominated for Tick Tick Boom, I firmly believed he would have picked up a nomination for this movie too. He really captured the complex character that was Jim Bakker. From young and loving in his youth, to becoming corrupted by money and power. His tortured nature in dealing with his inner demons, to his anger and downright cruelty when lashing out at Tammy. Jessica Chastain is brilliant and everyone can see that but I don't think Garfield gets enough credit when we talk about this film. Also I would not be a bit surprised if this movie walks away with the Makeup and Hair win either...its quite amazing how they managed to show both characters age throughout the film and it looked 100% authentic.
I remember watch PTL when I was a kid and laughing at them. In the morning before school, I didn’t need to watch the clock…When Tammy Faye did her solo towards the end of the show … my sister and I knew it was time to go catch the school bus. RIP Tammy Faye….
After watching Jessica Chastain's performance , I felt bad for the way everyone made fun of Tammy Faye in the 80's. I laughed at the jokes then. However, now I realize what a strong, compassionate, forgiving person Tammy Faye was. I'm sorry society didn't have the compassion and empathy for Tammy Faye that she had for society.
Tammy Faye was a beautiful soul, who married a man that she believed in. But he was a liar. She was loved by many, and was sincere, right up to the day she died. She was not a bad person. I hope this film shows that.
I just watched this movie on Disney Plus and found it excellent! Jessica and Andrew did awesome jobs in their roles. I also just found out that Jessica won an Oscar for this role!! Way to go Jessica!! She was AMAZING!!
We use to watch PTL when I was a kid, just to see Tammy. Everytime she spoke we all would just laugh at every thing she said. She was so funny and kind. Also one of the PTL singers was Cathy Lee Gilford.

she no Meryl or Jessica Lange. I was not convinced. very lifetime movie or compare it to the performance of Natalie Portman as Jackie O. Good but not excellent
Just sad she got so used by those trying to whitewash torture in _Zero Dark Thirty,_ especially given all the lies told in that movie. She was great, don’t get me wrong. It was just a bummer how the narrative about the effectiveness of “enhanced interrogation” was such a scam. Made me so angry when that all came out.
@@MrRocktex1978 She’s definitely in the same league as Meryl/Lange. Not surprising since she (Chastain) is incredibly talented and considered an ‘actor’s actor’ by the industry.
Jessica Chastain did a spectacular Tammy Faye. And Tammy Faye was a spectacular person…. Not because she always did right, but because she was sincere, tried to always make amends, and truly wanted to help people. She’s the best model of a “true Christian” I think I may have ever seen-not many others try to embody the values that they claim to subscribe to. They only use their faith as a shield for their crimes while they step on the backs of their fellow man to get ahead. Excellent movie. Instant classic.
Jessica is a shoe in for an Oscar nom next year, she looks incredible. Here's hoping Andrew will get one too. Absolutely love them as performers. What a combo.
This looks hauntingly powerful! And they look sooooo much like the real thing that it’s hard to recognize either of them. And from the trailer, it looks like the movie will be set over the course of nearly 20 years. Because they were married on April 1st, 1961 (Tammy was born on March 7th, 1942-so she would’ve only been 19 years old and Jim, since he was born on January 2nd, 1940 would’ve been 21 at the time). So my guess is that this film will span over the course of over twenty years-from when they are in their early to mid 20’s in the 1960’s (looks like the time period when we see Tammy first take Jim to meet her parents) to their 40’s in the 1980’s.
Most definitely my most anticipated film of the year. I've watched this at least 12 times. Jessica Chastain has always been one of my favorite actresses and judging by the trailer, she has absolutely outdone herself with this one. She apparently studied for this role for almost 10 years and the results already speak for themselves. Can't wait.
You can actually see the interview with Tammy and Steve here on UA-cam. That interview was iconic and everything they talked about is powerful and correct. It smashed a lot of stigma about AIDS (that even exist up until now). Steve was the correct representative and voice of the Gay community at that time, he explained homosexuality in a very understandable and dignified way.

@@beautyshines5530 The "twisted agenda" of this particular film appears to be the very same as found in Matthew 21:12....And I agree, a great deal of "everyday Americans" don't agree with it, which is why they make such easy marks for every crook and charlatan hiding behind performative religiosity.
@@gozerthegozarian9500 you're absolutely correct. I'm not defending money hungry vultures using the name of Christ for profit. Just because they're not nominated for Oscars, doesn't mean they're not terrific actors themselves. They're all headed to the same place.

If anyone deserves a biopic it’s Tammy
Also, she's getting a musical. Well, Kristin Chenoweth was working on one and she would be a good Tammy Faye.
She already had the original
There is also a doc that she did all of the voice over for on her fight against cancer.
She was a monster in mascara.
@@Highley1958 🤣👍 🎶 The malls are safe today, safe from Tammy Faye 🎶
As a native Minnesotan myself, she does the Minnesota accent quite well.
Right...not as heavy as in FARGO.
@@donbrown1284 But Frances' character was not Minnesotan, no? She moved there iirc
@@Bjjbhcoa86 No. She was born in International Falls, MN right up against the Canadian border. Bakker (nee Messner) did have that peculiar Minnesota twang, with hard "R"s and deep "O"s. and Chastain mimics it much less cartoonishly than they did in "Fargo".
@@Bjjbhcoa86 She had the STRONGER (forced) accent. The directors are from my hometown, Minneapolis, so they no doubt encouraged the exaggeration.
I just saw this on the movie menu & clicked on the trailer. I thought it was gonna be a joke of a movie but as I was watching it, what caught my attention was when i heard, “these eyes”, by the Guess Who.. BAM.!! I was mesmerized. I remember Tammy Faye & Jim Baker as a teenager.. she always had alot of makeup with big eyes-lashes & was always crying. i thought she was a hypocrite when her & Jim got busted, but after her entire life was revealed, i realized she had a big heart for people. God bless her
Tammy is to be respected .. I remember when she went on that show the surreal life that had a few rowdy young folks. And Ron Jeremy was there too. She was so sweet and kind to everyone! Never judged any of them. Not even ron. They actually became friends. My momma watched the ptl club every morning before taking me to school .. tammy would sing and she is a great singer! With a beautiful heart. Gone to soon. RIP beautiful tammy

God I just love this. Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield are gonna kill it in their roles.
looks good
I met her in a restaurant that i worked in several years ago..she was one of the most loving and sweetest people i have ever met.
Tammy Faye Is a blessed soul! I miss her 🥺
She found her true self away from Jim's greed and scamming.
Lol
Can’t believe it’s finally happening
Yes
Jessica Chastain got a well deserved oscar for this role, and after watching this film I now know why. During the film, I found myself constantly pulling for her, and that's because of how adorable and vulnerable she was.
After seeing this movie I think she was genuine and lovely person and just wanted to share love with everyone, this is what is needed these days.
it's too bad the REAL CRIMINALS, like HILARY and BILL, never get shamed by the media like Faye and Jim did.
I didn’t think I’d like this movie but it was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. This woman reminded me of what it means to be a true Christian. This movie restored my faith. Love All.
Yup
Jessica was amazing in this film! Definitely deserved the Oscar!
the underrated actress..finally won the oscar.....she deserves this award...no argue
They both deserve Oscars for those performances..they both captured the nuances of Jim and Tammy...
She embodied this role and Jessica deserved the Oscar for it. Amazing
I am also from the generation that remembers Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker on tv. Tammy Faye was a good woman and may God Bless her memory.
transformative performance for Jessica Chastain.
Jessica Chastian will win an oscar for this movie this looks really good
Phenomenal song placement.

Definitely getting that Oscar talk mindset already
I thought I couldn’t love Jessica anymore than I already but now she portraying one of my favorite people too .. just too much for my heart
I’ve honestly watched this trailer so many times. It’s just put together so well.
Same! Countless times.
This may be the best movie trailer I've ever seen, and I wouldn't even consider myself a fan of Tammy Faye, until now.
So glad I’m not alone, I CANNOT stop replaying this over and over!! Can’t wait for it to come out!!

Waiting for this one!!!! Looks like a winner.... RIP Tammy.... If you look the word "Fabulous", there should be a picture of Tammy Faye.
Poor Tammy. She really did love everyone.
I think she was off balance, manipulated, well meaning, but naive about the harm they were doing.
I think Tammy Faye was manipulated by Jim. The fact that she is dead and he is alive is proof that life ain’t fair. 🥺
Not everyone,,,,
Lol. She loved living the high life. She loved heavy makeup. She loved being the center of attention.
I am excited to see this movie. I live about 2 hours from Charlotte where the Bakkers resided and where everything went down on them. This is definitely going to be getting Oscar buzz. I didn't even recognize Cherry Jones as Tammy Faye's Mother.
If there is a sure nod for the ensemble, it will be Cherry Jones.
Nomination for Jessica Chastain right now!!! She’s kinda overdue alongside Amy and Annette.
And don’t forget Ms. Glenn Close
Let's not forget poor Glenn Close. Her fatal attraction role was even in my college textbook for borderline personality disorder. You cannot get more gangsta and iconic than that in that your performance is an example of a DSM5 diagnosis for psychological disorders. 😆
It's gonna be a battle of Jessica Chastain VS Lady Gaga.
@@trpysnow I am fine...God created me EXACTLY as I am...I do not argue with people about my salvation...I know where I am going...many of the LGBTQ people I know are way more Christlike than most of the people I have met in churches...how about you keep your bigotry to yourself and do not worry about pointing out things like this to complete strangers....remember when you judge others....you will be judges more harshly...I wish you the grace that you refuse to give to others though. Be Blessed.
@@trpysnow like I said...I know where I am going...I am fine in my walk with Christ. THank you for your concern.
Much love and respect for Tammy Faye!!!!!!! Miss her so much.
She was the most beautiful and loving lady ever she did love her gays and respected us as well.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
Jesus was crucified, buried and then rose again on the third day.
Tammy Faye wore WAY more mascara but the movie looks great, she was an icon.
I love that she became a gay icon. Take THAT, Falwell.
She was a icon without the I
I remember when she was on the reality show, "The Surreal Life" on VH1. She was amazing to her fellow cast members.

I remember watch PTL when I was a kid and laughing at them. In the morning before school, I didn’t need to watch the clock…When Tammy Faye did her solo towards the end of the show … my sister and I knew it was time to go catch the school bus.
RIP Tammy Faye….
I can already see that hair and makeup nomination.
I was young but I was always fascinated with her makeup

She's that one actress who really needs an Oscar atleast once in her career
she no Meryl or Jessica Lange.

I don't want to wait til September!!! Like a review said.....your gonna be surprised how much you like Tammy Faye
Jessica Chastain is incredibly underrated.
Can't wait.
I don’t know how I feel about this. At the very least, it is going to be one of those movies the leads, Chastain and Garfield, shine.
Tammy's is a sad story. But, I believe the best parts of her live on in her son Jay.
Yeah, he seems like a good guy.

You can actually see the interview with Tammy and Steve here on UA-cam. That interview was iconic and everything they talked about is powerful and correct.
