THE EYES OF TAMMY FAYE is an intimate look at the extraordinary rise, fall and redemption of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker. In the 1970s and 80s, Tammy Faye and her husband, Jim Bakker, rose from humble beginnings to create the world’s largest religious broadcasting network and theme park, and were revered for their message of love, acceptance and prosperity. Tammy Faye was legendary for her indelible eyelashes, her idiosyncratic singing, and her eagerness to embrace people from all walks of life. However, it wasn’t long before financial improprieties, scheming rivals, and scandal toppled their carefully constructed empire.

We were neighbors of Jim and Tammy when they were doing the "Jim and Tammy" childrens' show. They lived one block down from my family. My first Halloween, we went trick or treating with large, brown grocery bags that we had decorated with magic markers. It was what you did back then. As kids do, we hit up all the houses. Tammy answered the door and handed out flyers for the show. She was very sweet and complimented all the costumes, even mine, which was a witch. Then my bag broke and candy scattered all over the porch. I started to cry, she told me to stay right there, went and got a new bag, then got down on her hands and knees, and helped me find every last piece of candy. By this time my siblings and their friends had left me behind. She asked me where I lived and when I pointed and said "There", she walked me home. She gave me a hug and told me "Jesus loves you, and so do I". I ran up the steps to the door where my mom had just opened the door to go look for me. I turned around to wave, and she'd already walked away. I guess she saw my mother and knew I would be fine.
My siblings and I would go see the "Jim and Tammy" show, as they always wanted a live audience. That stopped after my mom picked us up and we were crying . There were some rowdy kids in the audience that night, and Jim had some sort of meltdown and told us we were all going to Hell. Bear in mind I was about 4 at the time. When you're 4, and a preacher tells you you're going to Hell, you believe it! My mom never let us go back again, and they moved out of the neighborhood sometime later. Growing up, I never forgot his douchebaggery or her kindness. R.I.P. Tammy Fae.

Lets not sugarcoat it though. They BOTH were living with gold bathtubs and faucets. Not just Jim. She may have been "kinder" but they both took all our donations and lived like kings with it, just like the current televangelists do today.

I want Jessica gets nominee, besþ actress seems so full of strong contenders this year, the most possibles are:
      Frances mcdormand lady mcbeth
      Ana de armas blonde
      Marta plimton mass
      Jennifer hudson respect
      Kristen stweart spencer
      And could be there too
Margot robbie if david o russel movie comes this year and Lady gaga if that movie is not a flope, maybe someone like kristen stwaert or Jennifer hudson stay out and if Jessica chastain is amazing in this movie and the movie is a strong contender in other categories she can be there

    • @richierich7229
      @richierich7229 3 роки тому +4

@@maylee261 Macbeth and Mass is not happening. Mass doesn't star an Oscar darling and the film is not very Oscar bait, it is too indie and is it not going to be a crowd pleasing audience favorite and the oscars will want to nominate more popular films and actors after this year's ratings slump, it has a terrible distributor and the little hype it has now will die out by the time the big studio Oscar contenders come out, . There have been three Macbeth adaptations in the last century, one directed by Orson Welles and another directed by Roman Polanski, and none of those adaptations got a single Oscar nomination and I don't expect this adaptation to be any different.
Other than that I agree with your other top contenders. My top 5 at the moment is
      1. Jessica Chastain for The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
      2. Margot Robbie for the David O Russell film.
      3. Kristen Stewart for Spencer.
      4. Ana de Armas for Blonde.
      5. Jennifer Hudson for Respect.
Among other reasons my list is this order because I feel the Academy will be more inclined to give the Oscar to Jessica or Margot who would be on their third nominations versus Kristen and Ana who would be on their first and Jennifer who already has an Oscar.

Jessica Chastain put her heart and soul to this story since 2012. She has been holding to this figure's story rights since 2012, it wasn't until 2019 that the movie was greenlit with a director and screenwriter. This is definitely one of her most passion project and man Tammy Faye would've been so proud for her. While the Best Actress competition is extremely tough, I would be happy that Jessica win her Oscar for this movie, after all she has been long overdue

Jessica Chastain long deserved an Oscar at least over a decade ago for Zero Dark Thirty or even for her ditzy but kind portrayal in The Help, but not for this disappointing retelling of Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye.

After watching Jessica Chastain's performance , I felt bad for the way everyone made fun of Tammy Faye in the 80's. I laughed at the jokes then. However, now I realize what a strong, compassionate, forgiving person Tammy Faye was. I'm sorry society didn't have the compassion and empathy for Tammy Faye that she had for society.

She did-and since this movie looks to be set over the course of over 20 years-we’ll probably see her journey from an idealistic naive young lady (she was just 19 years old when she married Jim, who was 21 at the time when they married-and from the trailer, it looks like we’ll be following the Bakker’s journey from when they were in their late teens early 20’s to when they are in their 40’s) to deeply tormented but still kindhearted older woman.

Just watched this movie last night. First off, it's fantastic.... and if Jessica Chastain wins the Oscar it will be well deserved. Secondly... if Andrew Garfield wasn't already nominated for Tick Tick Boom, I firmly believed he would have picked up a nomination for this movie too. He really captured the complex character that was Jim Bakker. From young and loving in his youth, to becoming corrupted by money and power. His tortured nature in dealing with his inner demons, to his anger and downright cruelty when lashing out at Tammy. Jessica Chastain is brilliant and everyone can see that but I don't think Garfield gets enough credit when we talk about this film. Also I would not be a bit surprised if this movie walks away with the Makeup and Hair win either...its quite amazing how they managed to show both characters age throughout the film and it looked 100% authentic.

God does love you but what do you mean by gay Christian? Is it possible to be a gay Christian? If the phrase “gay Christian” refers to a person who struggles against homosexual desires and temptations - yes, a “gay Christian” is possible. However, the description “gay Christian” is not accurate for such a person, since he/she does not desire to be gay, and is struggling against the temptations. Such a person is not a “gay Christian,” but rather is simply a struggling Christian, just as there are Christians who struggle with fornication, lying, and stealing. If the phrase “gay Christian” refers to a person who actively, perpetually, and unrepentantly lives a homosexual lifestyle - no, it is not possible for such a person to truly be a Christian.

I try my best to be like Christ (obviously failing everyday) but I mean no disrespect with what I said instead I say it with a good loving intent. Like you said I will be judged harshly and trust me I'm far from perfect. However, that won't stop me from judging my fellow brothers and sisters righteously. Believers are warned against judging others unfairly or unrighteously, but Jesus commends “right judgment” (John 7:24, ESV). We struggle and from time to time fall into sins and ask fir forgiveness and grace to overcome it.but deliberately living in it and justifying it is dangerous and doesn't make one a Christian. If my bible is correct, which I definitely believe it is, anyone that live in sin and continously justify it is in danger of hell. This looks hauntingly powerful! And they look sooooo much like the real thing that it’s hard to recognize either of them. And from the trailer, it looks like the movie will be set over the course of nearly 20 years. Because they were married on April 1st, 1961 (Tammy was born on March 7th, 1942-so she would’ve only been 19 years old and Jim, since he was born on January 2nd, 1940 would’ve been 21 at the time). So my guess is that this film will span over the course of over twenty years-from when they are in their early to mid 20’s in the 1960’s (looks like the time period when we see Tammy first take Jim to meet her parents) to their 40’s in the 1980’s.
