- There have been countless televangelist scandals over the years, but the first crooked televangelist that most people will think of is Jim Bakker. In 1989, Bakker was sentenced to 45 years in prison for his various cases of fraud, but he only ended up serving a few years of his sentence.
Before long, the disgraced televangelist was back on TV, and in recent years, he’s made headlines for selling overpriced food buckets that you can stock up on for the apocalypse. Now, Bakker has somehow taken it one step farther and claims he has the cure for the coronavirus. Let’s take a look at the shady side of Jim Bakker.

Congratulations to the Missouri Attorney General's office for shutting down his sales of "Silver Solution" for any supposed medical purpose (such as treating Coronavirus) and requiring him to pay restitution and civil penalties for having done so. Bakker should still be behind bars.

Jerry Falwell was an opportunist who envisioned stepping into the mega ministry created by Jim Bakker and stiffing its creditors through a bankruptcy filing. He never intended to help anyone, least of all the Bakkers, only himself. Things didn't go as he'd planned either.

I could see if he just wanted to do a few shows on bible prophecy, draw a modest salary and have a small home with his wife where he could host an occasional bible study. No, Modern Evangelical Churches are now become buildings that are filled with a mixture of saved and non-saved that is called "church" for tax purposes. I have seen the abuse accross several denominations in big and little and even a house church. It is the same design, a leader, everyone follows, and boom a cult of personality. The evangelical church is a dangerous place for people with disabilities, weakness, mental health issues, vulnerable... all sheep for the slaughter. I have seen it over and over and then finally it hit my family and my kids eyes are open to this.
I had to come up with some real answers FROM THE BIBLE why I would take my family to ANOTHER church building to start the slow journey and trying to build another community of friends...Guess what? like it or not, Baker was convicted of doing what hotels and airlines do every day, if every body who booked a room or a flight showed up , somebody would go back home or sleep in their car. Overbooking is the norm. Your bank does the same thing, there is never enough money in the 'vault' to cover all the 'deposits' if every body showed up on the same day to withdraw their money they would close the doors... because it isn't there. remember, "It's a Wonderful Life"? that's just how it works.

Shelia Ansley Walmart doesn’t advertise its silver as a COVID 19 cure. If they did, they would get hit with a lawsuit as well. There’s a reason why the bottles used to say that silver is used to treat viruses but no longer do. I’m not saying it doesn’t work, I’m just saying that those claims are unproven and not approved by the FDA, so it’s a big lawsuit risk to advertise them.

My grandfather was his VP in the 70’s. Tammy was and incredible woman trapped in the binds of evangelical marriage, Jim was a monster. Degraded people every chance he got and always left Tammy to pick up the pieces.

I once thought Tammy was just as guilty but after reviewing her life and watching the movie on her life, I've come around and have given her more latitude. She made some poor decisions but she really seemed to be a good person caught up in doing some bad things while Jim Bakker is just all evil 24/7. This dude originally gets a 45 year sentence and ends up serving only 5 years of it. He should have stopped there and thanked his God that he got off so lightly. But no, he goes back to doing more scams -- including some that actually could hurt or kill people (the silver stuff he was selling).
The amazing thing is that as bad as Bakker is, he's not the worst when it comes to televangelists.

Religion in many ways is a big business to those who abuse it. I remember Bakker back in the late seventies he was on the PTL club and had Heritage Park. He was involved in several scandals then, it's amazing he served time, was released and just started the same routine again.
In 1994 I was sitting in a Denny's in Sarasota when in walked Jimmy Baker. To me he looked beat down from prison. Very depressed that no one treated him like a Celb

Since the creator has a constant need for money, it is understandable that credulous people believe it is necessary to send money to Jim Bakker to act as their agent on earth. This level of human gullibility is astonishing. It's no wonder believers are often referred to as sheep. Bakker personally profits mightily by constantly shearing them.
