A train is being built for the future and if you have some knowledge of urban planning you know that building a train is a smarter decision than building highways.

You are right, they should do some research before talking about something they didn’t know. Most of the railroad was already there.
The real devastation was when hotels were constructed throughout the entire Mayan riviera.

Azteca, televisa, imagen, grupo formula, etc.

I think overall it is a much need railway where the positives outweigh the negatives, at the same time I as a foreigner our opinions shouldn't matter. Since when do we encourage Mexicans citizens voice there opinions on infrastructure projects in our country? Mexico welcomes all tourist from all over the world but let them decide on their own. After all, Mexico needs job creation as a way to solve the immigration problem. They continue to make progress because majority of immigrants now entering from Mexico are not Mexicans. Mexicans are now staying in Mexico in great part because of AMLO's leadership. Take a look at the U.S. Interstate Highway system, Railways, underground gas pipelines. Its like the pot calling the kettle black.

He is doing what he promised, not to steal, not to fail us...and so far he has kept his promise. México's corruption needs to be cut from the root, the problem needs to be tackle, is necessary. We are 12 million of Mexican's living abroad, many us will never go back due to certain events/issues. To my follow Mexicans living in Mexico, keep fighting for change , we deserved it, for many years we were kept economically oppressed, low wages, long hours etc. Be Smart, do some research before casting your vote, for the 1st time I would be casting my vote from abroad. You’re Totally wrong . 1. The Mayan train is built over the old already installed railroads (85% of the road) the bushes and rusty old metal were taken away to put the new ones. 2. There’s no such controversy, all Indigenous communities were asked to vote to approve the project respecting . Flora ,cenotes and ruins . Sophisticated technology were used to detect ruins and cenotes which even detoured the original route. Which fake ambientalistas generated your source of information? Resorts developers and traffickers of animals. Old highways were bettered. Xcaret tourist resorts were constructing fake tunnels tu unite cenotes for their new project and they were stopped. Lots of ruins have been discovered and the government used photomaping to study wild life and big extensions that were to be destínated for resorts ( the “ambientalistas” that gave you fake info ) have been declared federal natural zones , lots of fauna tunnels and bridges were built cos many animals were usually ran over at highways, most Mexicans agree with the project another “ambientalist “ is the American company Vulcan which was stopped cos for years they have destroyed jungle, animals even ruins to take rocky material to take to construct highways in the US and some materials for residential pools cos due to its minerals can help to give that turquoise tone to the water , they have paid actors, fake environmentalists , media , and people as well as they paid corrupt judges to give no less than 300 legal protection to delay the project and the government won one by one legally cos they had no real legal basis . AMLO has paid since 2019 indigenous people to plant 2.5 million acres of trees which were already deforested by wood traffickers , tha national guard protect the project as well as avoid trafficking animals, tarantulas ,and the robbery prehispanic pieces . The biggest discoveries, protection of ruins, unveiled new ruins and bones plus artifacts have been found like never before. 3. People living in poverty , at the side of the old railroads , were given dignity new homes in the town and those old poverty homes were planted with trees. Those are the images you showed as if trees were destroyed making a road in the jungle . I want to think you were used and not paid by Vulcan to punch AMLO’s humanist and echological projects. And yes there is a new airport at Tulum inaugurated by AMLO on Dec 1st 2023, but it was used the old military airport that was there, the military donated that land and also another big property to be declared federal protected zone. With AMLO, there have been declared more federal protected areas than ever before. No more pig farms and deforestation thanks to his projects . All the Mexican media which used to receive loads of money to talk well about the past corrupt presidencies , lost that money and have been attacking AMLO since day one , BUT he has the support of 80% of the population like no other president ever. Search for it, he has been the second most popular president worldwide since he won the presidency. And yes he is running working 16 hours a day , 7 days a week, supervising personally and gathering info from the people cos he was aware he only had less than 6 years to transform our country into a a world power it is today. PS and suppose nothing I said is true, were all train railroads of the world built without affecting environments ?

1:19 you should say: “why are SOME people against..” as a Mexican myself the majority of people wants that train, the controversy that surrounds it comes mostly from conservatives opposed to the government and many hired pseudo environmentalists, have you been in Washington state? I have , and I’ve never seen such level of destruction on forests and deforestation in my whole life in Mexico, have you made a video about it? whenever I look in the hills and mountains, there’s devastation, in some places it looked like a nuclear bomb was detonated.
And sorry if I sound rude but im honest, I don’t make UA-cam videos about the subject because, if I do that what do you think Americans are gonna tell me?

Yeah this guy "natan" (who likely doesn't live in Mexico) is pretty much making up stuff, I'm an actual mexican living in Mexico and I can tell you roughly half the country is against the project and half is for it. As always AMLO's fanatics, I mean followers, want to make it seem like everything that the president does is great and has no issues.
Also as usual they disregard valid criticism and resort to whataboutisms, like if that somehow works as a remedy for whatever is done wrong by AMLO.
The ecocide is very real, and there are many valid criticisms that haven't been really addressed.

The environment was not damaged, because this project was carefully planned years ago
And they built it on an existing railway
The government already planted millions of acres of trees before this project began ,besides they planted 2 trees for avery tree they cut for the train
So there was no damage done. But, the oposición doesn't like it because of political reasons
The USA and Canada cuts millions of trees every year to build their houses and no one says anything about it
In México they use concrete and brics to build their houses so no trees are killed ,like in the states

I know everybody is screaming "Rainforest!" but by the time the Maya had taken over Mexico they had deforested much of it. There are way more trees now than there were 500 years ago. We have better farming methods and fertilizer. More crops per square area today. Back then, everything was a farm or a city. Lidar showed in 2 years that the area that had buildings and structures were 10x more than we thought even 10 years ago. Everybody is a tree hugger nowadays; the original Maya were not.

If you don't build a train fast the oil industry will start building highways and more car traffic which is way too much worse for the environment. Most of the people or citizens have no no clue if a train is good for them because urban planning is not their line of work.

I don't live in a town and so probably don't understand what is good in urban terms. I can't wait to try the train, however, and think it is an amazing project. Hopefully connecting multi-mode services are being planned in - I can't find any information on these aspects.

March 2023, I lead a motorcycle tour of the Yucatan taking 4 Gringos that this was their first trip to Mexico. We stayed in the small village and ate at the small restaurant. I had a chance to speak with many indigenous persons. None were happy about the Mayan Rail. Their fears were that more tourists would not improve their lives but make the area too expensive for them to continue to live in the area. I have made many trips to Mexico. I watched Playa de Carmen go from paradise to a tourist hell hole. My first stay the roads were all dirt. Rented a hut on the beach only feet from water's edge. On the motorcycle tour I ran into a protest roadblock on Hwy 180 about 75 K east of Merida. Had to back track and spent the night in Izamal.

    2. Peninsula and south México are forgotten by industry and commerce, they need a train to move goods and not depend on highways, that any way are part of deforestation, but train can move largest amounts of cargo.
    3. Accidents on dangerous cargo can happen in highways too.
    4. A lot of workers of small communities will be benefit from the train.

in order of growing and create jobs , better economy for the population development is necessary.
In the rich countries environment is 2nd term. They don't give a fuck about trees and who and what are damaging, even they they remove original people's from their ancestral lands in other to obtain what they want.
This area and this people has been forgotten by all previous governments before AMLO, which is the most popular and best president in the world.
Previous to this president, were only puppets of the USA.
Now the economy is better, poverty is down, the medical programs are growing , and 100'sof other important programs and project are getting set in favor of the people.

False, this project will not harm the environment nor the jungle on the contrary it will protect it and where the train will pass there are communities, archaeological ruins and highways. Also along the track there are natural passageways, above and underneath. The benefit of this integral project includes urban planning, natural restoration and will allow communities to be connected and economic benefits for them.

You're right. Your opinion doesn't count. I also like how you excluded your girlfriend's opinion because it would've contradicted your narrative.
If you would've bothered to do more research and talk to more than 3 people you would understand what a monumental change this will be in the long-run.
The whole "environmental controversy" was a political ploy by the political opposition to undermine any project taken on by the current administration....
Obviously this will benefit the locals who have little opportunities as the area is not suited for industrial or agricultural activity. I look forward to see the benefits to the region.

I see others commented on the political, social, and environmental impacts of this train. What I want to rant about is the overlooked yet much more important subject of Nutella being horrid enough on its own much less when added to a crépe with cheese. I am sure this combination could lead to imprisonment in some countries while it is almost a guaranteed death sentence should one actually choose to ingest such a mess.

First this entire area is like Florida in the USA and will be underwater due to climate change. Climate change will also bring more destructive burrito this area. Third most of Mexico is self-insured, which means most weather destruction is permanent, both Mexican coasts are littered with abandoned resorts that never recovered after a storm. Politicians are terrible about settling aside money for infrastructure maintenance and any saltwater environment is super corrosive. The Mexican resort town of Acapulco was recently destroyed by a storm, the tourists flew out and the president could not come to look because the one road in and out was washed out.
Moving to Mexico City is ridiculous as there is not enough potable water. The fancy new developments have cisterns and water is brought to each home weekly by truck to fill the cisterns, sometimes the water truck does not come.
    Do more research man.

Also, on a long stretch, a pre-existing divided 4-lane highway is being used for the project.
They have taken one of those sections, removed the asphalt and now are laying the rail tracks on that section. And widening the other remaining 2-lanes to accommodate 2 more so that they can still have a 4-lane Highway but now with a concrete barrier in between since they are no longer divided.
Doing it this way ensures that there is minimal impact to the forest since they are using the area that was previously cleared and used for that 4-lane highway.
Plus there are reforestation projects already in the works. Some of these projects are now also being implemented in some Central America countries with Mexico’s assistance.
