TO ALL.OF YOU WANTING TO DO THIS. SCRAPE OFF THE FOAM OR OT WILL FALL OFF ON YOUR HEAD AND INTERIOR AND YOULL BE VERY UPSET AND HAVE TO START ALL OVER
To anyone doing this. Sand off the foam. Use a palm or orbital on large flats..hand sand transitions and tighter spots..you can go to hobby lobby and get basic material to recover and order online wild designs. Headliner spray glue follow directions and have a friend to pull the material wrinkle free. I did it solo but did have a couple wrinkles on my other truck. I will post soon when I do the one I have now.
Nice video! This'll definitely help me out reupholstering my head liner in my truck!
Wish I could post a photo of my before and after. Sanded my pastic parts and painted everything as well. Looks like night and day
I thought about doing this glad I found your video
Painted mine, pewter gray and looks great. 2007 Silverado classic extended cab. 3 rattle cans.
Thanks for the cheap idea.
Happy to help! And yea I was going to but the dark pewter paint I got wasn’t covering enough so I just went black lol
You should have wire brushed the foam off to get a smooth hard surface and then paint it.
I got most of the loose foam off but the way I did it makes it look and feel like there’s still vinyl up there!
Best Title for this video " How I Fucked up my Chevy Headliner
It’s a lot better than it was! To each its own I guess!
I wouldnt have left the foam. If you sand off the foam and go regular material it won't sag like a factory one or even how a foam backed replacement material one will over time. It stays put cuz there isn't the foam to fail inbetween any longer.
EXCELLENT . MY FRIEND TELL ME TO PAINT IT. I GO UA-cam AND I FOUND THIS EXCELLENT VIDEO
The glue and the fabric isn't what goes bad, it's the foam that goes bad. You just painted over the problem, quite literally. If you want to paint it like this you'll need to remove the foam with a brush and make the fiberglass very clean, then smooth it with filler if needed and prime and paint it. Personally, I would like just a leather look up there but to each their own. I will need to do this soon.
Most of the foam came off when I took the fabric off. I got most of the foam off but didn’t want to dig to hard into the headliner board itself. I was a little worried about some of the left over foam coming off but the paint actually formed a kind of coating and I’ve had this done for a while now and it’s been holding up great! Not a single spec of anything comes off of it! (knock on wood) lol
@@ZPTVChannel Right, a lot of the foam does come off with the headliner. That's because it's not the glue that degrades, it's the foam. The foam is what eventually fails on most headliners. But of course the fabric is glued to the foam, so as the foam fails the fabric droops. A soft to medium nylon brush should remove most all of the foam. I bet the paint went on so thick that it created it's own hardening layer, so now the foam is permanently "glued" in place.
@@TheGamersRace that’s what I was hoping would happen lol so far it’s working but with stuff like this only time will tell if it holds up.
@@ZPTVChannel Id rather just order some leather and try that, lol.
Man new fabric is $20
I did mine but I use same liner color paint to Mach everything
I wanted to try to match the dark pewter but figured I’d rather it be black then I different color grey lol.
you should show us how to change the seats to other seats !
This one shows me removing the seats! ua-cam.com/video/Gm_Io4Lu6UM/v-deo.htmlsi=XgeWOheZsqJxhPQ3
And this one shows after the new seats are installed! ua-cam.com/video/eZm_DgfmgGw/v-deo.htmlsi=ucobNcLMkwQISiPS
Thanks
Did good
Hey how long did it take to actually remove the headliner from the truck?
Maybe about 30 minutes! If you have a single or extended cab it’s super easy but if you have a crew cab I’ve heard it’s almost impossible to get out without pulling the windshield or rear glass…
How difficult was it to get the wires through the dash and back to the box?
It wasn’t hard at all. Once you get it past the dash pad it basically falls into place!
U don’t need to unplug any wires. I slowly pulled the wiring loose from the back of the headliner and left it all plugged up.
I tried that with mine but it would’ve taken way more time and would’ve been way to much of a headache, at least in my case. My truck wasn’t taken care of very well by the previous owner either so that probably has something to do with it lol
I have a cloth headliner basically the same truck the same way you did but the material underneath the cloth is like phone do you think that would work painting
That’s pretty much how mine was. I just made sure there wasn’t going to be any little flakes that would fall off and then painted it!
No don't do it. It will fall off every time something makes contact with it. Scrape before u paint
you directly skipped the part i was hoping for help on. i cant seem to free the clips at the back of the cab roof the flat round ones
Those are just push pins. I used a trim separator tool but a regular flat head or trim pry tool will work! If your having trouble getting it out with I screw driver pulling down on the headliner should pop it out as well!
Bro literally, I broke one of the hooks, who tf leaves out the one piece that holds it on lmao
Were you able to find the top panels clips broke mine too? Nice vid.
Thanks! And no I haven’t found any replacements but I’m pretty sure it’s just glued on if you can find your broken clip you can probably just re glue it!
how many yards u need ?
Where did you get the SEM paint? And do by chance have the code?
I got it off eBay. The can says 17223 very dark pewter.
Lil tip the handles will never dry whatever they’re made of I waited two weeks and tried three different paints they never dried so just did away with them
I found that out the hard way and so did my wife and son lol 😂 I’m pretty sure they’re dry now but it took like 2 months….
Enamel doesn’t laminate to urethane rubber. The handles are made of this
What I did was used gel superglue and the fuzzy headliner and wrapped them with the superglue holding it so it's like a furry handle
The clips don't break you break em ur suppose to remove the Lil black clips carefully
The headliner acts as an insulation and keeps your cab cooler under extreme heat so you won't bake your coconut. There has to be a good reason all auto makers still use headliner fabric today.🤔
It's not vinyl
Not sure why you keep calling it vinyl. Vinyl is what you walk on in your kitchen, nothing even close to what you removed in your truck.
Not the right way
