    Ute: 1x Can of Headliner Adhesive
    Sedans: We suggest sometimes its best to overbuy here, as you wouldn't want to run out half way though. So You may need 2 Cans depending on the size, however In this video we managed to only use 1 can for the sedan and felt like we had a quarter remaining in the Can.

    A few days ago I went out and bought a cheap spray gun so I could buy a quart of professional glue and spray it on like you normally do. But then I saw this video with the cans. Do you recon the cans will hold up just as long as the Landau or other pro product? I don’t want to do this job and have it fail. I’m using hard to find foam-backed Alcantara to redo the headliner of my Audi.

    Thanks for the great videos. I took the plunge and replaced the headliner on my 2007 Accord. At first I was going to spray patch it but when I saw your video I got inspired to pull the whole thing down and start from scratch. I found the perfect match fabric here in Los Angeles and all went well. I did have a few indentations from pressure marks that haven't gone away. Will these flatten out over time with heat when outdoors?

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  10 місяців тому +3

      Depending on exactly what the pressure marks are from, say if it was caused from a puddle of glue build up which then made the foam backing in that one spot go all tight then not much can be done. But if it's just from pressure or object denting it, then an upholstery skewer could help pull out the imperfection or a steamer. Otherwise just leave it to come out over time when car warms up usually 👍

    • @Reece.wilson
      @Reece.wilson 11 місяців тому

      Spraying a very thin layer of glue, with light coats should get you by. Just test on a small section first. And always keep the motion moving when spraying glue, and stop and start the sprays off fabric then move towards it to reduce glue residue build up accidentally on back of the fabric.

    Cab you spray over the old foam its brown but not coming off the backboard?

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  Рік тому

      So we have done this before, sometimes the foam is so new still it won't budge, or depending on the type of job, Like felt headliners they don't unstick easily, in this scenario we may spray glue onto the old fabric or old foam and let it soak in, then do another layer, so twice the amount of glue sometimes.
      It's not recommended to spray onto old products, but some rare jobs do require it.
      A good tool to remove old stubborn foam is wire brush, sander, or nylon brush on the end of drills. But be careful not to eat into the board

    I used much less glue than you but I have some spots where the glue came trough the material. It looks terrible.Is there anyway to fix it or I need a new material ?

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  2 роки тому +1

      If it came through the material it would mean that the glue was puddled on at some stage, so too much in one area, or incorrect fabric used. Roof lining material is Foam backed, so that prevents glue staining through.
      Options to clean off glue from the visable side could be using Citrus cleaner and/or thinners, but I usually dilute both these products with Super Cheap Autos Foaming Xarpet Upholstery cleaner.
      Hope this helps 👍

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  Рік тому

      We have recovered over the top of headliners in the past, usually on felt headliners where the old material wont remove easily.
      But keep in mind, this process usually requires more glue, as the first layer sinks into existing fabric.

    Do ya gotta have a solid surface when adhering the new liner to the headliner backing? My truck had a fuzzy material that was adhered to like a fiberglass backing. And so I peeled it and took a pair of hair clippers to remove most of the loose fibers. Can I glue to that? Or do the fibers have to be completely removed. As it is, I don’t mean to sound racist but the surface is somewhat like that of an African Americans head with really really short hair, like faded hair length? What a weird way to describe that 😅 but it’s all I could think of

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  2 роки тому +1

      It sounds like you are working on a vehicle we haven't worked on before so can get difficult to suggest the exact method, as some boards can't withstand much rubbing or sanding without damaging the board itself.
      But ideally you'd need the board clean (as much as possible) for glue to do its job

  • @tonymontana897
    @tonymontana897 10 місяців тому

    I've noticed on some headliner replacement is the amount of small "lumpy" bits in the recessed areas. How does one avoid this because it looks ugly and unlike the factory version. Is it due to the way the glue is put down ?
    What are your thoughts on brushing the glue on ?
    How does the factory do it ?

    • @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs
      @ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs  10 місяців тому

      Sometimes the board needs a gentle sanding to reduce this appearance.
      Also depends on how the glue is applied.
      Factory headliners may hide this because of the age of the job itself, eg: fabric is no longer tight against the board.

    • @tonymontana897
      @tonymontana897 10 місяців тому

      @@ReecesAutoHeadliningRepairs I agree that the surface needs to be as smooth as possible which is why the factory headliners always look mint due to the baseboard being brand new.
      I also noticed how nicely the glue lays out of the Permatex brand can compared to some cans that spray the glue out in a more stringy fashion. I'd probably avoid the latter to avoid potential lumpiness.
      I plan to do the headliner in my BMW E36 M3 in the future as it's in storage for now until I finish a shed project. Then I'll have the time and space to have a crack at it.
      Do you know where I can get something close to the material I have ? It's a black velour (Schwartz as they call it in German).
      The factory material measure a total thickness of 1/8" including the foam, so trying to find the exact spec of material if possible.
      Hope to match it to the rear and front pillars too and not have to redo those too.

    • @Reece.wilson
      @Reece.wilson 10 місяців тому

      @@tonymontana897 also I forgot to mention is that if you spray glue too far away from the job it catches air and drys to a ball or string which then can make the surface bumpy. Spraying too close causes the glue to puddle. So it's finding what works, and can vary depending on glue used and temperature on the day.
      The ebony velour product we sell on our eBay page, comes close to BMW Velour black. Velour products are getting more difficult to source because most suppliers are no longer restocking due to most cars coming out with felts and flat knits now.
