I just listened to a 30 minute golf documentary, about a very tall man who meandered through College, attaining multiple degrees, not using them, leaving jobs when requested to work, who during the story, won a golf match missing 50% of the putts 4 feet and in, and yet I respect him greatly, and feel like he's as wise as he is tall. Long live Big Randy,A.K.A. Phil, A.K.A the Shop Donkey.
AKA Alexander Supertramp
less the “respect” get a clue!
This episode is the Gospel of the Millenial. Big Randy is our avatar.
@@joelmetz2522 you must be so much fun at parties
The “things came easy to Phil” quote from his dad/cut to Phil not touching the hole on a three footer was a dirty edit by the Pieman.
Could watch that for hours
It’s inconceivable that each episode gets so much better one after another. The deep dive into Randy explains so much. Calls for an in depth on each team member!
I agree!
Agree 110%! There should be an origins episode for each NLU member. It sucks we had to wait five years to get the first installment.
Agreed
@@MikeBodo nah! they did it years ago on the nest pod
@@damodoc that’s a value add they should be preaching more. Joining nest imminently!
Legitimately the best overall golf content on UA-cam. It’s not even close.
@@_BigDiesel_ Yeah and I like them, but NLU is so much more genuine and authentic to me
@@_BigDiesel_ yes I have, and I rate Good Good and all the individual channels. But they are in different genres for mine.
I agree, although the King Wolf Creative boys are coming for it!
@@_BigDiesel_ The GG boys are a good watch as they churn out heaps, but quality is on another level here.
It's comparing McDonald's to a Michelin star restaurant. Both have their place.
Good Good is fine if you like loud and boorish. NLU is a bit more grown up
I forced my fiancé to watch this season as we wedding plan - a fair trade off as we stuff envelopes. This season she finally said, “I think I get why you love golf so much.” This is a testament to NLU content and not my constant reminder to her that I love golf. Kudos to the NLU gents for creating world class content all while convincing a staunch non-golfer to see the light.
This is hands down my favorite piece of NLU content ever. This episode was truly meaningful in so many ways. I have many memories of Boyne with my late father. The Petoskey/Harbor Springs area is my true happy place. It really hit me in the feels to hear Phil (only seems fitting) describe what that area means to him. I feel extremely fortunate to have watched this episode with personal references the material being presented. Thank you guys. This episode will undoubtedly be one I return to frequently.
Tony. I was going to comment on this video, but your sentiments are equally mine, and I couldn’t have written it more eloquently. So thank you! And thank NLU crew for this. Cheers from N.Ontario!
Absolutely loved The Big Randy Story. Would love to hear all of NLU's backstories in the future. Great content as always boys
Origins Sauce. And once Neil finally breaks par, it can be Endgame Sauce.
I love the vulnerability Randy showed with being honest about his fears of finding a career and purpose. Also busted out laughing hearing about him and Timmy and his George Constanza job experience.
It still baffles me how NLU’s channel isn’t just massive. You guys consistently kill it season after season. The love you guys have doing this shines through so brightly. Bravo boys, bravo.
Agree. I constantly ask guys that I know love golf if they follow NLU and they aren’t familiar with it. But I have faith that with outstanding content like this the word will spread.
People dont have the attention span to sit down and appreciate legitimate content, just like a good book. Unfortunately It's much more convenient to get on the couch and zap through some brain dead materials.
Me in 2018, watching my first episode of Tourist Sauce: “This is so frustrating, I can’t see where the ball is going or figure out who’s winning!”
Me watching this episode: “Why are they showing golf shots? I need to know what Randy did after he left his accounting job!”
Hands down, the best episode of the season, and one of the best of the series. Thanks for sharing, Phil.
Currently I’m 20 years old and terrified at what lies ahead, I have zero idea what I want to do once I’m out of college and have no idea where to begin, the idea of a “corporate” job terrifies me because I know I’ll just be sleepwalking to a life that I know isn’t for me. Hearing about your journey was truly enjoyable, relatable, and inspirational big!! Thanks for being so open this ep! All love from Bloomington Indiana!
Same boat bro, just living life while still young is my key so enjoy it
Been doing it for 10 years now and all I can say is your job may not be your dream or passion, but at the very least try to find something that will support your lifestyle and passions.
@@mayorganism I 2nd this and would add that your 20's are when you're supposed to make mistakes and learn from them. Make sure you learn because you can't make those same mistakes when you're in your 30's and potentially have more to care for than yourself
@@mayorganism thank you for the great advice!!!
@@TP-fs3uz thank you for the advice! Definitely gotta use this time to explore!!
Coming back and rewatching this tourist sauce made me truly fall in love with, what I forgot was an alias, ‘Big Randy’. These episodes are very needed in getting to know the characters of No Laying Up, similar to the episode in the Scandinavian tour with Soly. I really hope that this gets seen so that they can continue to see the true admiration for the content they create and create more episodes like this where we can learn about each of them. Thanks NLU, keep doing what you’re doing
Big Randy, the most intelligent, well read golfer on the course. "The Readings from the Book of Yardages" changed my view of the game, forever. Thank you.
Watching Big Randall drop it in the slot could finally bring Carl Spangler to Total Consciousness.
Great seeing Chuck and Peggy…Love Phil’s story!
As a 25 year old searching for what Randy was looking for. It's nice to know I am not the only one finding it difficult in the beginnings of life. Thanks for sharing Randy
Randy has lived a storied life so far, what a top bloke
Couldn't have asked for a better high school basketball coach... Thanks, Coach Landes! You're the man.

Thank you, Phil. I identify with you at every step of your life. At 31 years old, I recently left my second "career/life plan" to go work in a pro shop and do something that I genuinely love, finally. This episode was therapeutic to hear my own fears and passions projected right back to me. I know that I'm on the right path for me because of your story. Thank you again.
Masterful storytelling, human, fun, hopeful, relatable. The authur hills of lives, so to speak.
As we move towards northern Michigan, it makes me beyond happy that the whole world gets to see how great the golf courses in my back yard are.
The most heartwarming 30mins of self discovery in the pursuit of happiness.
Big Randy is my spirit animal.
Came for some golf content only to be blindsided with the most moving and sensational documental golf piece that I’ve seen. Big Randy and his parents sharing such personal details and a powerful sentiment that most people this day and age can empathize with… just an insanely good episode. Props to all of NLU, feels like a blessing just to watch this stuff.
Landes Landing: A True Home Game and an ass to no one but the golf shop.
Such a great video, can’t believe this stuff is free.
The storytelling is so good, that you almost forget this is a show about golf. But the golf is weaved in there so wonderfully. Well done boys
The storytelling in this is on another level. More of these please..
"It's a game that means what you want it to mean...and a pathway to explore people, places and the human condition. I'm where I need to be right now, and that is a fun feeling." Awesome storytelling. Epic episode!
So so good. Hard to believe I could like Randy more. Seems like such a sincere good hearted person. Immediately one of my favorite episodes
Big Randy’s gratitude for those people who helped him on his journey, and his sincerity shines through in this episode. It’s really refreshing to see the love y’all have for one another, and the game of golf. I’m grateful for this channel, and my bucket list of courses has increased tenfold from watching all the Sauce. Gracias.
This is by far the best NLU video to date. Phenomenal story telling, some of the best camera work you guys have done. As a fellow filmmaker in the golf space, it’s been cool to watch you guys grow!
Best episode yet by a wide margin
You can just feel the whole hearted kindness of Mr. and Mrs Big.
Loved the old picture of Soly from college. Best episode yet.
I’m catching up on NLU content and totally agree with people here in saying your guy’s content is so far above everyone else’s it is not even close. This episode was world class.
A special note: whoever is doing the music mixes is unreal. It captures the moments so well. I’m constantly drawn in on so many levels. Bravo
That would be Mrs Pie!
One of the best, maybe the best episodes so far. Nothing better than watching people do what they truly love. Keep on doing what you do guys! Truly fulfilling and inspiring! Cheers from Germany
Got tears in my eyes. Phil's story is truly touching.
Easily the best episode on NLU ever produced. As a fan I absolutely feel connected to you boys but even more so big Randy now. No need an in depth on each member. Class lads, keep up the good work
I really loved this episode. Big Randy is a world class gentleman!
One of the best episodes (if not THE best) so far. Makes me look forward to Wednesday nights.
Asked my wife for some NLU gear for Christmas. She's a little confused on what NLU is all about or why I'm such a big fan of what y'all do, even after trying to explain it. I'm showing her this episode and I think it will become crystal clear. Best 30 minutes I've spent in some time, thank you guys!
Arthur Hills was the first, and only, time that I broke 80, and having what has to be the best episode of NLU displayed on the backdrop of a scorecard that I'm never going to throw away is truly heartwarming.
I have no words on how much I enjoyed this!!!
Might be the best episode you guys have ever made. Loved every single minute.
Without question the best episode of them all. You gentlemen are without compare.
This episode really had it all; Big Randy eloquently speaking on his life, the Carter Brothers getting over their skis on bets, Neil hitting the chloroform ball, and the perfect amount of missed 3 footers.
Without a doubt the best episode of the season if not the entire series - the biography of Big Randy is what everyone needed and I'm glad it was shared.. great work guys!
One of my favorite episodes ever, the view, the course, and of course, Mr. Big. Now I need to change my life to find the clarity he has with y'all!
All nlu guys have their origin stories on their nest pods .good listen for anyone who liked listening to the big mans story
RIP Arthur Hills, love the work you left in our great state
Randy, you are such a top tier human. What an episode.
Been slow getting to these. But over the last week on nightshift I've binge watched from the first one. Loved the open and frank interview with a quite an emotional looking Phil
Hands down my favourite Tourist Sauce episode and that's saying something considering there's loads of absolutely outstanding episodes.
Every time I watch one of these vlogs I hate for them to end. Outstanding!
This episode in one word (and in the words of Big): DELIGHTFUL
I've watched this episode at least a dozen more times compared to any of of your other videos; and personally, this one just hits different as I can relate. Thank you to the whole NLU crew for putting out these gems.
This should probably be shown at film festivals across the country.
My heart is full hearing bigs story. Thanks for sharing.
This has to be my favourite episode of Tour Sauce
Based on Phil's love of basketball and preference of perimeter play I think he should start a podcast called "No Laying Up"
Best episode you guys have put out so far. What a treat to see your progression over the last couple seasons of this show. I just discovered you all a few weeks ago and have binged so much content, and you have grown so much as filmmakers, storytellers, and humans. Thanks for you work and your joy you bring to us.
That is elegant story telling. Thanks for letting us be a part of the journey.
Thank you guys so much for this. One of the best videos I’ve watched in this app.
As someone entering my 30s and often times feeling lost in a great corporate job during this pandemic, this was a great episode. Inspiring to hear such a relatable story, would love more of this!
I love Boyne HIghlands! 20 of us have been getting together for years at boyne and have our own golf outing there. we play all four courses in two days with a different format every round and its one of best moments i have during the summer. It is awesome to see you guys showcasing this awesome resort!! The courses are always top notch!
The best episode so far and a huge thanks to Randy and his folks. If I ever get to travel to the US again I'm going to this course.
This is awesome listening to bud Randy’s back story from the point of view of his parents. We need that for all y’all!
This might be my favorite piece of golf video ever. Hearing Big Randy's story, as this match is played out in the background is emotionally moving in ways I didn't expect at all.
This season, taking place in my childhood home state (and highlighting Grand Rapids, my hometown, the way they did) has made me homesick in a way, and grateful, and proud of MI. Growing up, this was the kind of course I dreamed of playing. For me, resort golf winding through the woods and over the high hills of Michigan was as good as the game could get, I thought. I only ever played one resort course once, but I've come to respect the game more than just resort golf.
Thanks so much for a season that has put me back in touch with my childhood in a way I haven't thought of in many years. This has been so edifying for me as a Michigan kid, and a golf fan. Top quality, really artistic in an unexpected way, and shows off the beauty of the whole great lakes region.
The NLU guys are living the dream!! Hope they’re around a long time.
As a somewhat lost, soon to be college grad, Big’s soulful story couldn’t have come at a better time
I never comment on videos, but here I am. That was the best half hour or so I've watched about anything in years. My wife would leave me for Randy. Thankfully we're on the other side of the world, and can't leave the country.
As someone who is newly out of school and in a similar boat looking for that job/role in life that makes one happy this is an all-time NLU episode. Thank you to Big Randy for opening up and talking about your story and how you got to where you are. I watch you week in and week out, and many times re watching past seasons, but it is great knowing that you found what makes you happy and inspires me to do the same. Cheers Boys!
Best episode yet. What a story from Randy - thanks so much for sharing!
Incredible episode, phenomenal season. Not just entertaining, but really making us listen and think. Phil, thank you for letting us in!
Will say this has been one of the more soulful episodes. Good on you Phil
Just phenomenal. Thanks, Big Randy/ Phil, for sharing your story. You all are the best! Keep it up.
So many things that I could write after watching that episode but I'll keep it simple; I love Big Randy.
E Plurubus Randus... What an absolutely joy to watch. Props to you Big and the NLU team. One of a kind.
Big Randy feeling comfyyyy amongst the big timber and taking the Pie Man to the woodshed.
Great to hear Big Randy’s story. Fascinating really. Love to hear background origin stories in each member of NLU. Cheers!
Those massive elevation changes remind me of Olde Stonewall in Ellwood City PA, near Pittsburgh. I love that place, so I am sure I would love this one also.
I've watched and listened to so many different episodes, and I just now realized you guys met in Oxford. My dad's buddy owns Indian Ridge. We go up there every summer for a guy's trip. I'm not sure if you all have played it recently, but it has gotten world's better in the last 6 years.
My golf group has kind of disappeared due to return to office, and someone older passing on. Haven't really been playing since I don't want to go solo. These videos really are soup for the soul. Feels good getting to know you guys better
Love this episode. Smiled the whole time.
What a truly heartwarming episode - watched the last minute with watering eyes. Congratulations guys
Probably my favorite episode of the entire series. Love getting the background into Mr. Big.
Truly the best golf content on the net! Keep up the great work boys, love all that you do !
Man, definitely was not expecting this episode to be like that. Very enlightening to hear Big Randy’s journey through life and it’s pretty damn near relatable the way he felt through life, not wanting to fold into societal pressure and instead chasing what makes him be. Good deal man 👊🏻👊🏻
God, when Phil/Big says that the best job he ever had was going to the office, reading a book in his cubicle and then eating lunch in the park, then reading a little more and going home. That hit me. That hit hard. I wish I had a group of friends that started a company and just wanted me to show up and be me (I know he does the financials). But man, I get it. Not having a passion for your career and just trying to get through the day to day working corporate jobs... Randy is my spirit animal. I really appreciate hearing someone else just coming out and saying it. Especially someone I admire. So thanks Big Randy. You're the man. I hope you find fulfillment in whatever you end up doing in whatever part of the country/world. Cheers.
Arthur Hills is truly my favorite course of all time, so great to see it get some recognition!
Maybe the greatest Tourist Sauce video ever... what a great watch!!!
Man, this channel just gets better and better. Outstanding episode guys
This is my favorite episode that you all have ever done. Props to Big Randy for letting us in on his very relatable journey to happiness. The community that you all have created with your content is unbelievable and I wish you all nothing but continued success and happiness. Cheers!
Love this. Great to get an insight into Big Randy and his parents. The love and support to give him time to find his place and what he wanted to do is something special. PS your music choices for these series is always spot on.
Special place for my golf group as well...with the border to the U.S closed for 2 seasons now, we really miss it. Can't wait for the upcoming season! Keep on rocking it!
Michigan is about to be overrun with “Yours to Discover” license plates
@@robmcneil our new provincial goverment switched the slogan to "open for business", it is brutal. We miss taking some white tape and covering up the "Y" and "ver" to make the plate "ours to disco"!
@@21Swayzee I believe it’s actually “A place to grow”. Not that that’s any better
@@jordanjackson410 ohh yeah, that is right! Haven't got the new plate yet, so I am still rocking the disco!
I’m not sure I could like someone I don’t know as much as I like Randy. He has got such a great way about him. Another cool vid.
One of my favorite Tourist Sauce episodes to date. These boys have a rare ability to interject heart & emotion where you would not expect it. This episode’s storytelling blend of fond memories/returning home with a survivor match is masterful. Well done boys, cheers!
This is my favorite NLU video to date. Need more deep dives like this on all members. As someone who just graduated college and is not thrilled with their career atm, it was reassuring to hear Big Randy’s career and life journey. I can only hope to end up doing something as fun and entertaining as y’all someday!
I work a job to allow me to follow my passions outside of work like playing golf. Some people have a passion for their work, some don’t. You do you.
It looks like Big Randy is on the Slopeside Lounge patio for his interview.....that is a happy place for a lot of us skiers and golfers!
