    This is very helpful with other games as well. I never played D&D with anyone but I always been a fan of Crpgs!...I just suck at them lol!! This will help me going further with understanding D&D like games, thanks.

    Is there an attribute that modifies the damage of blasters like Strength does for melee weapons? Does Dexterity modify blaster damage or does it only affect chance to hit with blasters?

    • @GamingYourOwnWay
      @GamingYourOwnWay  4 роки тому +4

      Unfortunately no, DEX only affects chance to hit. It kind of stinks, but I guess it kind of also makes some sense; if you're stronger, you can swing a sword harder, but if you're more dexterous, it doesn't make a bullet hit someone harder. At least in KOTOR 2 Obsidian added several weapon mods and feats to substantially buff ranged damage.

      @@GamingYourOwnWay My thought is that aim would affect damage, not just the chance to hit at all. The damage variability of blasters accounts for aim inconsistencies, but this damage variation should at least decrease with aim.

      Ah nah, that's why you dual wield heavy mando blasters with the best mods.
      It's a ranged DeX finesse sabre build.

    Sooo does anyone know then when creating your cha that focuses on melee and force powers. What your stat points that you put into it should be to where taris isn’t redic difficult ?

      In general, I'm just a proponent of dropping the difficulty if something is too hard lol, but I'd say STR, CON, and WIS, you don't NEED DEX, INT, and CHA, that'll just hurt some of the role playing aspects and your chance to not be hit by enemies.

    Do you have 3 of these on combat mechanics?

      The damage mechanics one is different from the combat mechanics one. And yes, I did redo the combat mechanics video after getting tired of seeing people comment "can you speak louder" when, in fact, I cannot go back in time and be louder haha 😅

    Good video, but this kind of combat system is beyond me. I'll go with highest numbers on the weapons, avoid the minuses on the "to hit" and hope I survive.

    2:39 so where it says 7-17 does that mean it has 7 dice rolls or no?

    • @GamingYourOwnWay
      @GamingYourOwnWay  4 роки тому +2

      I didn't see a weapon with 7-17 at that time stamp, so is that a custom example? In any case, no that's not what that would mean. KOTOR likes to give you the damage range, but doesn't intuitively tell you what the actual roll is. Without seeing the weapon, a 7-17 would make me think it's a 2-12 (in KOTOR terms) or a 2D6 in DnD terms. So for a 7-17, you would roll two 6-sided dice, then add on 5 free damage. My guess would be your weapon you're referencing is a lightsaber which I think are 2-12, with an attachment that gives Damage 5 energy. Am I right, and does that make sense?

    • @GamingYourOwnWay
      @GamingYourOwnWay  4 роки тому +3

      In general, here's an easier way to tell: you have 6 types of dice that could potentially be rolled in DnD: 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 20 (leave out the 100 sided die haha). The first number is usually the number of dice, and the second number divided by the first is usually the number of sides on the die. So 1-12 is roll one twelve-sided die and 2-12 is 2 six-sided dice. If you have some funky numbers going on, you probably have a mod that's giving you extra damage.

      @@kaiserstorm886 Oh, my bad haha, I would have to confirm when I get home, but that's probably taking into account your STR modifier. I was doing a lot of testing when I made this video, that character probably had a STR of 20 (+5 modifier) so that's probably where the extra 5 comes from. I'll confirm this evening though.

    • @GamingYourOwnWay
      @GamingYourOwnWay  4 роки тому +1

      Can confirm, that character had 16 STR (+3 damage) and weapon specialization (+2 damage) which is what gave him that damage range!

    Isn't it possible for the vulkars to damage you if they roll a 20 and get enough damage on the critical roll. If they are rolling two seperate 2-5 dice wouldn't any roll totaling 6 or more hit you?

    • @GamingYourOwnWay
      @GamingYourOwnWay  4 роки тому

      Good catch, I think you're correct on that! I'll have to add a note to the video and give you credit for that :)

      @@GamingYourOwnWay I don't know if video covers it, for your information and impossible difficulty try, energy shields reduce damage before it's multiplied by difficulty factor. In case of impossible difficulty all damage received is multiplied by 3, so energy shields are OP because if you take 10 damage it's totally absorbed before it would get multiplied. HF

      I know I‘m late, but no. The 2-5 damage doesn‘t mean you roll 2 5sided dice. it means you roll one 4 sided die with one free damage point, so no they‘ll never be able to reach 20 (critical threat range) and also won‘t be able to deal more damage than 5 (there is no 5sided die in DnD) *YOU‘RE RIGHT ABOUT THE SECOND PART, BUT ONLY IF THEY DUAL WIELD*

    • @GamingYourOwnWay
      @GamingYourOwnWay  3 роки тому +1

      You're right about the no d-5, but they absolutely can still roll a critical threat, that's not at all related to the damage of the weapon, that's based on a randomly generated number between 1-20 when you attack, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying.

      @@GamingYourOwnWay oh you’re so right, i forgot that the critical threat is based on attack and not on damage. thanks for clearing that up edit: therefore OP is correct
