I really enjoy my Sunday afternoons with both of you. Your enthusiasm for stitching is contagious and I’m absolutely thrilled to be infected!
Congratulations to Laura on her devotion to one sampler from start to finish with all the squirrels running about vying for her attention. I cannot wait to see it framed.
Do you think you could add a segment to your FlossTube videos identifying your “favorite things?” Favorite linen colors from each line, favorite floss colors from each line, favorite scissors, go to travel necessities, must attend retreats ( when we can safely gather once more ), and all your favorite stitching tidbits that no one should be without. Each linen dyer and your favorite colors alone would take months, but so worthwhile to those of us who live in a LNS desert and must rely on sight unseen / untouched by our hands online purchases. Please give it consideration.
Stay safe. Stay well and stitch on.
    🤩

That is a great idea Bronte!!! I am going to pin your comment so that Brenda and I can refer to it....we could assign different things "favorite status" when we talk about them and keep a running list or something like that. My wheels are spinning!!!! Thank you!!!!

Love this idea. Right there with you with on LNS. Such a bummer! Buying fabric, sight unseen is the hardest thing.

I enjoyed every single part of your FT video-you two make me so happy. I have one child, a son, and he knows how important my needlework is to me. I started talking to him about my samplers after I pass on and he just said, “Mom, stop. I will never get rid of your pieces. I can remember you stitching since I was born and have never seen you just sit down without some needlework in your hand.” It made me cry, and of course I have been stitching for way longer than when he was born. LOL. Then I started to talk to him about my stash and how I hope he won’t think I was a hoarder when he goes through my stash. He said, “Mom, I know what joy all these things have brought to you and I promise to find good homes for your stash.” He knows about all the various guilds and stitching friends I have, so he will know what to do with everything. I was so touched by how sweet he was about it. Another one of my stitching friends knew that she was dying and she asked her friends to go through her stash and put one of her kitted projects on each chair at her memorial service. She had no children or other relatives, so the funeral director asked each person coming in the door if they were a stitcher. If so, he directed him to the area that had projects sitting on each chair. It was so sweet and we all enjoyed working on her projects and thinking of her as we stitched. Isn’t that a great idea?

Brenda, I couldn't say a louder Amen to your encouragement to stitch what makes you happy. I am a retired hospice nurse and have had a lot of very important conversations with many of my patients. It was always heartbreaking when people expressed their regrets in their life. We all still have the opportunity to eliminate regrets and stitch what makes us happy. You are a wise woman my friend.
Laura, you are awesome too. Just don't get too mature......

What a beautiful sentiment Brenda! Stitching has called me back after a hiatus of many years. I jumped in with both feet and reintroduced myself while also remaking myself. The beauty of needlework is personal and not the same for everyone. I love how we all make it our own! I love the calm it brings me. I love the examples I set for my grands. I love new charts, new threads, new linens . I can never get enough. And seeing you Laura growing and finishing and deciding on new ventures ,,,,,, like a child rediscovering himself! Bravo to you both for the many wonders you share. And let me just say that I treasure my silk hanks and keep them for large projects where I know I’ll need a lot of one color. .Definitely fill what is empty and empty what is full. That motto was written to me in college from a POW that returned from Vietnam. I wore his name on a bracelet all those years ago❤️

Thank you for sharing your heart about having no guilt over enjoying the process and all that we love about cross stitch! My mom taught me this lesson too. She was an avid quilter and her home was filled to the brim with incredible quilts!! She had a stash that was overflowing! I have very fond memories of her piecing, sewing and creating to her hearts content, often singing to herself as she did. I spent many hours in her sanctuary, as a small child through until the day she went home to heaven. My sister and I spent a few weeks going through all her things, it was incredible helpful in the process of grief. Oh we laughed, cried, and so on as we divided up her precious things. She use to always kid with us about how she felt a bit bad that we’d be left with the task of taking care of all her things but we reassured her that it would be our honour to care of her quilts.... many went to dear friends, some to local charities - a women’s interval home, that she supported, some to the hospital for palliative care, etc. And of course my siblings homes are full with her treasures too! So YES, do what makes you happy, fill your space with things you love and enjoy this life!! Now I have my own space full to the brim too and I love it!! Phew!! Long post but I’m just so pleased you shared what you did, Brenda. Thanks to both of you!!

Love watching you both!! Talking about where our stitching goes when we pass....my middle grandson has spoken up for 1 particular piece, he's 16, and no one else has said a word about wanting something. My bestie is getting all my patterns, floss and fabric when I am gone...she asked me if it's all in one room!! LOL! I told her no, you're getting the stuff, you're going to have to hunt for it! I hope though that the good Lord gives me many more years to happily stitch away. Somehow, 40 years just doesn't sound long enough! ;) I'm going to a stitching retreat this weekend...and I will be VERY happy! Love to you both, my floss tube friends!

Oh Brenda, I feel the same way, my stash has brought me (and my husband) so much pleasure for almost 40 years. I lost him the end of 2018 and it took me until this year to enjoy stitching again. But flosstube helped me so much, ladies kept me company a many night when sleep would not come with talk the common bond of stitching. Looking thru my stash and adding too it also lifted my heart. Brenda, don’t throw those needles out. Save them in a little jar or better yet a stitched pocket. Then on February 8 th place them in a block of tofu and thank them for their service. It’s the Japanese Hari Kuyo ceremony. Everyone has to express their gratitude to the needles and pins that have enabled them to create their work as well as pray for the work ahead, and ask for more skill and dexterity. No stash guilt here.

I love all of your WIPS - Your Stash Haul - Your Finish - Everything is just beautiful.
I love watching you two ladies and seeing all of the Beautiful Starts and WIP’s and Finishes and Stash.
Brenda - I love what you said about how we stitchers will not live long enough to stitch everything that we want and have but like you said - it brings joy to us stitchers and we stitch because we enjoy it and we love it.
For my Recent Joy I bought the Spring Issue of Punch Needle and Primitive Stitcher Magazine. I dearly love this Magazine.
I have Large Plastic Tubs full of Patterns and File Cabinet and Bags with Charts in them that I want to stitch. I keep buying more.
When I first started doing Counted Cross Stitch - I taught myself - I went to K-Mart - bought a small Owl Kit - came home - Stitches that Little Owl that same afternoon - finished it - This was 1980. I went to my LNS which is still there - and I started to buy tons of Charts - I am so so thankful that I did because these Charts you cannot buy them anymore at a LNS or a Online LNS. To me these Charts are a Treasure to me because I do want to stitch them and you cannot buy them anymore. I have learn that if you want to buy a Chart that you really want buy it Now while you can.

Here’s a suggestion for you Brenda; instead of throwing the needle out, when your piece is framed, thread it through the back of your name plate on the back that tells you the information of the piece. Even leave a piece of thread from the sampler. That way you honour the hard-working needle, and you don’t throw it out.

I like the philosophy you expressed and described about stash and what stitching means to you. I think another thing is that we can feel free to make things out of our favorite things, rather than saving them for some future, better use. I am primarily a quilter, and buying fabric is something that I enjoy doing. I have recently retired, and gone through all of the fabric part of my stash. I find myself thinking that I want to wait to use that favorite collection because I might not make the very best thing possible out of it - but that is silly, because I love the fabric so I should make something out of it rather than saving it. I think this goes along with how you expressed the pleasure and enjoyment that you get from your respective stashes of fabric, thread, charts, and unfinished-but-started items. It is much, much more important to use the gifts and opportunities that we have been given than to wait for a better time. Today is the day, today is the time. I am going to no longer save my favorite things for some other day. And thanks, as always, for your videos. I look forward to each one and enjoy both of you and your perspectives and the great information and inspiration you offer each time.

BRENDA,,THE LOOK. ON YOUR FACE SSEEING LAURA'S FINISHED SAMPLER WAS PRICELESS,
! Always enjoy Sunday afternoons with two of my favorite floss tubers. Someone who knows how to chart should enshrine your lovely sentiment about doing g what makes you happy and having No guilt about stash. I am sure my stash will eventually find a good home and bring happiness to a fellow stitcher. Especially if she, or he finds their unicorn chart or favorite thread serendipitously in my stash. Hugs and thanks for making Sundays special

I often wish that there was some kind of "Library of Congress" for stitching and crafting. All these beautiful designs and designers.

Thank you Brenda and Laura so much for your videos. You have ignited a spark, no a bonfire, in me and I now obsess about cross stitching and samplers. I have always been an avid crafter and always have some type of needle in my hands whether it be a knitting needle, crochet hook or sewing needle. Your comments about our love of stitching and acquiring stash without guilt really resonated with me. You were so right,..something happened to me January 16.....I was very, very ill....surprisingly enough in and out of consciousness, I was thinking, darn I am not going to see the threads I order.....that’s and of course my family....yes, life is short and we must do what we like.
Second point, I had a call with sassy jacks, and Kim, explained something to me that made me value her a great deal....she is fantastic....
And finally......Laura, what beautiful work with the mini samplers that you Had finish.....I have and order with xjude.....morning coffee is in there, I can’t wait..
Thank you to the both of you for making my Sundays afternoons very pleasant....happy that you got your drink Laura.

Laura, your sampler is gorgeous! Brenda, you had me in tears. Stitching is so important to me as well, especially through the last year. I seriously don’t know what I would have done without it. I bought Sarah Jackson, my absolute favorite from expo. I bought the dolphin as well as the Eucalyptus linen, we need choices, right? I was at a small cross stitch shop with a friend, looking at Blackbird charts. And the lady behind the counter said “you know what the girls say buy all the blackbirds”. I almost fell over! I sometimes feel like you are talking just to me, so I was surprised that she knew of you. We had a nice discussion about you two and how much we enjoy your videos. You go girl! Buy that sampler, buy those silks, do what makes you happy! I am more of a quilter and when someone says something about me buying new fabric when I already have a ton I just let them know that it makes me happy and basically, mind your own business. I support two small quilt shops and the one needlework shop I can find here. Also, I am working on a quilt for one nieces and using scraps of fabric and I can look at each one and remember what I used it for, like the last fabric my mom and I sewed together with before she passed. Those things bring up memories and have meaning so by all means lets all do what makes us happy on our brief time on Earth!

Thank you for what you said, Brenda, about stash and how it makes you happy and how the hobby of needlework has enriched your life. I understand completely. I have so many crafts and so many supplies, not just cross stitch. Sometimes I do feel bad that I have so much stash of all types. My husband doesn't understand why I need so much fabric or another cross stitch pattern or more beads or whatever. I know my daughter will be overwhelmed when I go. She paints and draws and does photography, so she doesn't understand the pleasure I derive from collecting the materials to do the activities I love so much. I am thankful for stitchers like the two of you who do understand. Life is too short. Eat dessert first and buy the cross stitch!!! Congratulations, Laura, on your beautiful sampler finish! Thank you for another wonderful visit. Laura your finish is beautiful and inspiring! Brenda I just saw that the Black Cat Stitchery has Piecemaker needles so I ordered some to try. Thank you also for your encouragement about embracing what makes us happy. I had just ordered not one but 4 GG R charts before watching this episode and then here came the guilt. Why am I so critical of myself over these little purchases? Like you Laura, the only real sports in our house is the Indy 500, Formula One on Netflix...and then some Dodger Baseball. A while back My husband took a photo of his car for me to hang in my sewing room as a reminder to be guilt free about my quilting and stitching purchases as I could never catch up. I soooo agree with you both …I’ve had my Mother make me feel guilty for every stitched piece and purchased chart 🤷‍♀️ I get so much joy out of even just looking at charts, at fabric stash and all the gorgeous threads 🥰😍 Besides all; if there were no passionate people before us, whom stitched samplers (and many others, who honored them, their work and kept samplers!) - we would not have these Beauties to admire and stitch now ❣️
